The service was exceptional, with food arriving perfectly on time. The rolls were delightfully light and refreshingly crisp. The restaurant's atmosphere was bright yet calm, creating a welcoming space where everyone seemed happy and smiling. This spot earns a solid 10/10 for outstanding sushi.

Tora Izakaya is a good compliment to the food scene in the university area of Charlotte. This restaurant boasts an ample offering of various Japanese, Indonesian and Thai favorites like sushi, Pad Thai, fried rice among many others. It's located in the same area as IKEA and has a ton of parking. The overall vibe is super chill, relatively quietly and cozy. Very casual energy. The shrimp + chicken hibachi bowl were both a generous portion and pretty flavorful. It's very simple put a bowl of rice + lots of veggies and a protein of choice with teriyaki sauce. The bowls are all safe options and great if you're picky or craving something easy. I do believe the veggies they use in these bowls either come frozen or canned and they'd really be upgraded and go to the next level if they used fresh veggies. The crispy rice and tuna appetizer was my favorite: Crunchy rice and fresh fish - 10/10. I also tried the basil lychee mojito and it was surprisingly delicious. Very basil forward and easy to drink more and more because it genuinely great. Our servers were all friendly and helpful. The food came out in about 10-15 mins tops. I would return to this place again and hope they uphold the quality of food and service. P.S. guys please change the radio station of the soft pop covers lol ... it's dreary and the original songs would be better.

Stopped by while in town. We had the mango tango roll, super crunchy shrimp roll edamame and seaweed salad. The rolls were amazing. Not the biggest fan of their seaweed salad since it's made like a salad with lettuce and dressing, so I wouldn't order that again but we will definitely be back for the rolls. Service was good, we were checked on several times. There were others there dining, as well and they mentioned how good their rolls were, too. Definitely a place to check out!

We walked in and got to choose our seats. The hostess was nice. Our waiter brought us waters and allowed us to browse the menu. I chose a spring roll, California roll and shrimp Yakisoba. The waiter was attentive and the food was served timely. I thought everything tasted really good. The food was served at the appropriate temp. I would definitely visit this location again.

The food here was really good and it came out very quickly without sacrificing the quality. Inside was clean and decorated nice. The server brought us water immediately and checked on us regularly. I would go back.

Came for a late lunch with a friend and we enjoyed the food! Great music and the service was great. Someone was always checking in on on us throughout the meal. Everything was delicious and we will definitely be coming back to try out more stuff soon. Highly recommend checking this place out. Especially try the hibachi bowl!

Excellent food! They just opened not too long ago and their sushi is fresh and flavorful! They also have really good drinks! This is a good place to come for lunch for sure! Our service was knowledgeable about the menu as well. The crab Rangoon was soooo good too!

I was craving sushi so my sister and I went to this new spot that opened up. The service was soo good and the food was even better!!! They were playing nice music too. This is a good spot to go to with friends or even a date night. I got the crunchy shrimp tempura roll and the shrimp tempura Raman. All of it was amazing! I will return to try more things on the menu!

The spot was nice and bright, the tunes were chill. They were not busy at all which was a plus. Got some sushi and spring rolls along with an espresso martini. Would be great for lunch or grabbing dinner with friends.

Oh boy where do I even begin... well I walked in on a lazy Sunday and by gosh surely I was in for a treat... I ordered the chicken katsu not knowing what it was and my goodness I was metaphorically and more definitely nutting everywhere. This yummy food was so delicious that I was hardly able to contain my excitement lol... Service was okay

I had the bulgogi loaded fries, California roll and the hibachi bowl with steak and substituted the rice for noodles, I spent 41.00 on this meal but it was well worth it.

We ordered several appetizers from the dumplings to the egg rolls to the wings and to the Bao buns. Everything was amazing! Our server Abby R was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered a trio of appetizers for the table: Szechuan dumplings, wonton chips with crab Rangoon dip, and KFC (Korean fried chicken). The wings were as good as expected, great flavor, piping hot and crunchy. The real surprise was the wonton and Rangoon dip combination. Just a stellar idea, executed spectacularly. The Szechuan dumplings were a little spicy and tasty, but they were just warm, which gave them an oily mouth feel. I got a to-go order of pork fried rice, and I have to say, I could've done without it. Pulled pork just doesn't go with fried rice, flavorwise or texturally. The biggest disappointment about the meal was when I attempted to settle my tab. I walked to the front counter and was confronted by a young woman who snapped, "We don't take money up here!" Thankfully, Abby came out and took my payment, but the first young lady was so offputting, it will be a while before I go back, if ever. Definitely not how you convert a first-timer into a regular customer.

We ordered the Basil Fried Rice with chicken (added a sunny egg on top), Pad Thai, and the beef skewers. The basil fried rice was the standout. Great wok flavor, rice wasn't soggy, and the egg with crispy edges tied everything together perfectly. I ordered medium spice -- just right for me, although my wife felt the heat immediately. Thai medium is not American medium, so order wisely. The Pad Thai was solid and balanced -- not overly sweet, good noodle texture, generous portion. The beef skewers were tender with nice char and paired well with the peanut sauce. Service was friendly, food came out hot, and portions were generous. Now for my slightly controversial take: in my experience, Asian restaurants are almost never 5-star places. The magic zone is 3.5 to 4 stars. That's where you usually find the most authentic, no-frills, flavor-first cooking. If a place is too polished, something is probably toned down. Thai House sits right in that sweet spot. Would absolutely come back.

I ordered the broccoli fried rice and the knockout rolls. The broccoli fried rice was decent--nothing extraordinary, but it satisfied my hunger. I ordered it at a level 2 spice, which ended up being a bit spicier than I expected. It also could have used a little more flavor overall. The knockout rolls were good and generously filled, which I appreciated. My only complaint was the peanut sauce, it tasted more like hoisin sauce, and I wish it had a stronger peanut flavor. The service was also very good. The staff at the front were friendly, welcoming, and made picking up my order a pleasant experience. Overall, it was an alright Thai restaurant. It may not be the most memorable meal, but it's a convenient option if you're looking for a quick Thai takeout spot with great service.

Over the weekend, we got to check out this new Japanese fusion place in South End…read more.. As anticipated, the place was very pretty and posh...with a sleek color motif of black and pink (one of my fave combos!). Since the weather was so nice, we decided to sit in their patio area...very nice! Can't say I loved the playlist (a bit busy and random...everything from soulful lounge music and hip hop, to Donna Summers, Salt 'n Pepper, etc.etc.), but I loved the overhead volume...giving the place a festive ambiance. I just hoped that the music would be a tad more relaxing and sophisticated...but then, I get it. Am sure the vast majority of folks coming here are in their 20's or 30's. Service was good. I think both Managers-Owners (?) stopped by our table to check on us...and our waitress did her best. However, we did find it odd that we had to ask for soy sauce and wasabi with our Unagi nigiri order. Maybe this had something to do with it being a fusion place? As for the menu, there were several tantalizing and interesting options. My husband and I both decided to start with 2 orders of Unagi (as an appetizer). Then we agreed to share their signature dish, Lobster Fried Rice, as well as 2 sushi rolls, "The Genie" and "Kimchi Fried Chicken". We also finished our meal with their Panna Cotta (with Strawberry). Well, we both thoroughly enjoyed everything...but our favorites were the Lobster Fried Rice and the Panna Cotta. Sushi Rolls were good, but I felt I've had better? The Lobster Fried Rice, however, was possibly THE best Fried Rice dish I've had to date! The Panna Cotta was amazing too...just wished there were a bit more of it? BTW, I liked their cocktail, "Lotus Milk Punch"...but here's the thing. Despite the lofty price point, there just wasn't much of it...as there was this big block of ice taking all the space (just as with Whiskey drinks). Also, I didn't feel that it was strong enough. So here's where I dock a star. I feel that when a drink is this expensive (20?!?), it should be well worth it. Despite the good taste, it fell a bit short on its stingy portion and weak alcohol content. One other minus I must mention is the lack of parking here. You just have to drive around until you find a space along the road. It's a good thing we came early! Still, this is a great, new addition to Charlotte...and it's a cute spot for a date night or a girl's night out. I'd definitely wouldn't mind returning to try a few more items on the menu...and a repeat order of their amazing Lobster Fried Rice!
