Went in for an early dinner on a Friday afternoon. Pleasantly surprised to find the place bustling but no real wait. Sit at the bar or order from the counter, both seemed easy. I was at the counter, no drinks today. Had the Grande Burrito Bowl with green chili pork. Whole bowl portioned properly with decent flavors. Roja sauce and Poblano Ranch were both good on top. Good experience, in fact better than expected. Reasonably priced, flavorful food. I'm sure there is more authentic Mexican food but this is a viable option. read more

My family ate here Sunday at 1:00 pm. The food was very good, but the restaurant was filthy. The small trash can for straw paper but the drinks was overflowing all over the counter. The counter was wet. Lids and lemons were everywhere. It was that way when we arrived and still that way when we left. Tables were dirty. For $10.50 I got a "trailor trash " taco, order of Chips and Queso and a drink! Torchy's Tacos 07-15-24 The restaurant was clean. We had no wait for lunch. The employees were friendly and helpful. We started off with an appetizer of Guacamole & Chips. It was flavorful and fresh. It was a little spicy but not too spicy. We had two Street Tacos - 1 Fried Avocado on a Corn Tortilla and a Baja Shrimp on a Corn Tortilla. 2 Beef Fajita and 1 Chicken Fajita on Flour Tortilla. 1 Beef Fajita Grande Burrito. Why are all the Torchy's in north Texas so crappy :/ another disappointing Torchys trip and tried this different location. Tacos were just thrown together messy and cold. My matador was a cold sloppy messy and not even made correctly. My Baja shrimp ones were COVERED in the sauce like soaked which was gross. My first visit had a few bumps BUT I can tell that there's so much potential for this place to be great. The service was nice and the recommendations were good ones. There was a hiccup with the to-go margarita. The bartender was missing for a bit so we sat with the food waiting for him to come back and make the drink. But nonetheless it was good when we got it. The chips and queso by far was my favorite! I ordered the brush fire and trailer park tacos. The brush fire taco was had some good flavor and a really nice amount of spice. The only down side was that the chicken was not fully cooked so I had to finish cooking the chicken before enjoying the taco. Overall, I enjoyed Torchy's and would give them another try. read more

After visiting here at least once a month since moving to Denton, it occurred to me I have never done a review. Been to a good half dozen or more Torchy's locations and this one is my favorite. I like the layout; service is always the absolute best and the food portions seem to be extra generous. I often get the taco or the month which is nearly always a flavor sensation. When not getting that the Green Chili Pork and the Brushfire are my favorites. I also get the Mr. Orange often. For my wife it is the Democrat and Baja Shrimp. She sometimes does one of the breakfast tacos instead. Green Chili Queso is a must, but can be spicy depending on who is preparing an their Guacamole is excellent. We always take something home for later. This location nd this food has become our "comfort food" and I can' be happier. read more

What can I say - great food, amazing queso, great service, full bar...tried the burrito today instead of my usual tacos since the fried avocado taco was no longer on the menu. (insert crying face here). The burrito is HUGE...definitely enough for two people to share! Only complaint - I hate cilantro and they put it on literally everything. Usually Torchy's is great. Today, not so much . I only get 30 minutes for lunch so I have to get it to go. Ordered a Democrat, flour tortilla, and a Crossroads, flour tortilla and no avocado. Normally I can get back to work in time to punch in. This time I waited 20 minutes for a take out order, both on corn tortillas and avocado on the Crossroads, AND absolutely ice cold. Not sure I will risk it in the future. P.S. they were not busy, and the To Go rack was empty. read more

I had never heard of Torchy's until deciding to stop in randomly while hunting for a spot during my lunch break. I ordered the Kingpin taco (carnitas) and an order of the green chile queso. Both were very good! The restaurant looked very spacious and clean. It also has a full service bar along with tvs. I definitely plan to stop in for happy hour after work. Came here on a Friday night to grab a quick bite. Walking up to order was quick and easy, the cashier was pleasant. I ordered the democrat barbacoa and trailer park chicken. My husband ordered the queso and brushfire jerk chicken. In both dishes the chicken was flavorless. We were disappointed to find dark meat in both dishes as they weand chewy. The sauce was bland. The barbacoa was way over salted. The flour tortillas and garnish were meh. They did not add to the dish. The queso was the best part of our meal. I've seen so many chain taco spots since arriving to Texas, so the first opportunity I had I stopped at Torchy's in the UNT college area near North lake. My server Chelsea was attentive, kind and answered all of my questions. My food came fairly quickly, but was a bit cold when I got to it because I went to the bathroom after ordering. I made it known I'd be going to the restroom and granted I didn't say for how long, but I would've preferred if food service waited until I got back so my food could remain hot. The bathrooms were clean as well though. There weren't many other people there at 10am so it was quiet. For the food, the highlight was definitely the beef brisket. Tender, good color, and flavor. The cheese on the taco could've been melted and the ingredients better incorporated. I noticed the tortilla strips were cooked into the egg which was nice to have in each bite but I missed the crunch of the strips. I wish the pico, cheese, brisket and chillies were cooked into the egg instead with avo and tortilla strips to top. That would've done more for the flavor and texture of each element coming through clearly but also for cohesion on the palate. The tomatillo salsa was a highlight, great flavor and color. Coming from CA, the price was a highlight too. I spent $10 total including tip and was full after eating. Overall, this was an enjoyable breakfast taco because these are all elements I enjoy and would cook for myself, but the execution could've been a bit better. I always thought this place was going to be overrated. Roughly over $4.50 for a taco? One taco. Seriously. Well it turned out to be absolutely worth it. The tacos are not overpriced as they are decently big tacos. I have the Baja shrimp taco, trailer park taco, the beef burrito, and chips and salsa from Torchy's. Outstanding. The Trailer Park (get it "trashy") is excellent. Nothing was bad or mediocre. It's fresh and really, really good. The staff is super friendly. Special shout to Mary who was tending the bar. She brought our beers and was just super friendly and helpful. The dining area isn't huge but we haven't had trouble finding a place to sit and pretty clean. These are really good tacos. I want to try others but I love the Trailer Park so much it's all get. Well worth a visit. Highly recommended. I always forget to snap pics because the food is so good I eat it before I remember. We have been going to Torchys for years. I'm vegan so I've been loving their fried avocado tacos ALL.THIS.TIME, being told the green V items in the menu are vegan. Today, 8/28/20, I was informed these are not vegan. The avocados are dipped in buttermilk before frying and the beans have something in them. Thank you to the very informative female attendant!! You have been very helpful. She adjusted my taco to a fresh avocado slices, minus the beans. Boo to any other attendant I have told I'm vegan and they didn't pick up on what I was ordering. They didn't seem to mind we weren't wearing a mask and there wasn't any table distancing going on. For these reasons alone, we'll be back. Torchy's has been one of my favorite lunch stops for years now and frankly I love almost everything about them and their menu. But alas, I have had a few bad experiences lately prompting me to take the Denton store on University to task. One of my favorite tacos on the menu is their Mr Orange, a salmon taco. This has become our go to place because the food and service is great. I enjoy the monthly specials.

I'm big on rating things for what they are. I can't compare the food here to other tacos in town, because that isn't fair. They also aren't really fast food. Torchy's is like a Fuzzy's or R Taco- it's more of a place to get drinks and apps and hang out. I personally can't stand Fuzzy's, but I do think Torchy's (as a chain) has more appeal than Fuzzy's. However, my visit at the Highland Village location was better in regards to food and service. Since this place isn't a good match for us, I'll rate it for their main audience and I guess that makes them a little more okay than meh- but they do have some work to do. We stopped by Saturday at 8:13am, they open at 8am on Saturday's. There was one customer seated and I believe she had already been served because she left about 10 minutes later. We had no wait in line and the cashier acknowledged us and answered our questions about what was being served. I always give props to a place that serves the entire menu all day long. We placed our order- chips and queso, a soda, the Trailer Park (trashy, no pico) and The Crossroads (no onion). Total before tip was $18.57. Yes, it's one of those places that has you write in a tip, but is not full service. My husband went to get the soda while I received their tracker. I guess this location doesn't do number stands, it's not the kind that vibrates but I guess has a chip in it that shows your location. I went to get us a table. They have a mix of tables and booths, as well as seating at a large bar. The booths are high backed, red and leather- definitely going with that devilish theme. I went to the area closest to the counter and almost every table was covered in crumbs. It was 13 minutes after they opened, clearly nobody cleans at night. I chose a booth and bussed my own table, noticing that there were 4 unenthusiastic employees milling around, but not cleaning. My husband came to the table with lemons, limes and Maine Root soda. I am not personally a fan of Maine Root, but I know many are and I think it's helpful to know who is serving what. They also serve tea and of course have a full bar. Then we waited...and waited...and waited. There was enough time lapsing that even my husband was looking around in disbelief and then remarked all the employees looked sad. Yeah, they did. I regretted tipping, but that's the risk I take when I choose to tip before service. I'm aware of that, I just try to be nice and hope for the best. Bad Manda. By the way, due to location, you'll have great service outside, but inside your reception and data will be sketchy. It has to be all the power lines just outside. Not their fault, but it can make killing time on your phone take longer. I didn't see a sign about wifi and didn't really worry about asking, but you may want to inquire. Finally, after 22 minutes, our chips and queso arrived. At this point, there were 3 other parties seated, we were the first to order by a while. I did notice one gentleman get his order in a to go bag about 5 minutes later, but he was clearly dining in. After we had been there 32 minutes our 2 tacos came out, there was now a 4th customer at the bar and a 5th that looked like he was waiting for a to go order. Once we had been there 41 minutes we finally saw 1 out of now 6 employees begin wiping down tables and filling napkin dispensers. I guess that's good, we ended up running out of napkins right as we finished. I don't think nearly an hour after open is the time to do it though. The kitchen probably needed that extra person to help move out tacos faster than 32 minutes. The food was okay. The chips and queso are actually pretty good, but I remembered getting a lot more kick at the Highland Village location. I wasn't disappointed, just curious about the change since they are known for being pretty spicy. I would still say it's worth the $5.95. My Trailer Park had one lone piece of fried chicken and the skin wasn't crispy, even the spots without queso. That disappointed me some. The flavors were fine, the texture was meh. Not worth $3.95 in my opinion, nor the wait. My husband got The Crossroads and liked the brisket, but felt it wasn't as filled as other tacos we've gotten from the chain. I did agree based on visually looking at it, but we have never gotten this particular taco before, so that makes it more difficult to decide if they are changing portion size. What I will tell you is that it did not fill him up and he was heavily relying on the chips and queso. I cannot believe we spent $4.50 on a single taco that was so skimpy. Double meh. The food was okay in taste, super overpriced and nothing that justifies us being there for 46 minutes. It's unlikely we will return to overpay (and wait) for more tacos. However, if you want to take advantage of this place for hanging out with drinks and apps, I think you will be more satisfied than we were.
