I have to say, I'm not with the majority when it comes to loving this chain. Across the board, I find it to be a bit overpriced when it comes to tacos. Yes, I do know that some of the tacos have more exotic ingredients, like salmon or tuna, but they still charge quite a bit for plain beef or chicken. I've also found most of the food to be a bit bland, save for the beans which are actually quite good. This aside, this location needs some help. They are relatively new, but not new enough to still have some of these issues. Most Torchy's are quite known for the excellent service, but each visit the workers here seem like they could care less. I even had a worker get frustrated with me for asking a question on one visit, and roll his eyes. Sorry dude, just wanted to know if I could get a side of salsa. I've also noticed that this location is very slow. It's taken more than 20 minutes to get our food on all visits, even when the restaurant was slow. I've seen many customers bring this up to workers, and they get a half hearted apology in return. Overall, I think management needs to take a look at what's going on in this location. Not once have I seen a manager walking the floor, and this could be part of the problem. I want to like Torchy's but your so expensive with service that makes me want to stay away. read more

There may be a little wait in bringing your food out but well worth it. It came out fresh, warm and delicious! This ain't no Taco Bell! Gotta be patient while they prepare your tacos! If you're really hungry, get some chips and queso! I've tried it before and it's awesome! Appetizers not your thing? Get some alcoholic beverages at the bar! No complaints on their food! Delicious!!! I've been to this location about a dozen times, sometimes for order out and other times for happy hour. The food is good and the staff are nice. Occasionally my order out takes longer than it says it will but that's usually at rush times so I totally get it. Love that this location is open at 7 am for the graveyard shift people ready for happy hour and food. The real hidden gem here is Norma, the bartender. She's on top of her game and has the best vibe. I joined my partner's 3rd shift work group and found out they decide when to go out together based on if she's working -- and I totally get it. Norma shared the ongoing deals, took our orders, got them all correct, participated in our convos (but not intrusively), and made sure waters were filled the whole time. She checked in the right amount and took great care of us. I love this Torchy's. It's the closest one to my house and it is in the middle of all the stores on University. Depending on the direction you're coming from it is a little hard getting into the parking lot. The service is always good and the wait for your food is never long. Around 12 p.m. it does get pretty busy and there's only 1, maybe 2, cashiers on so during the lunch rush if you're on a time crunch maybe order ahead. This was my 2nd torchy experience and SO much better! I got 2 breakfast tacos and they were amazing! They were huge and one probably would have been enough. Absolute worst experience at a Torchy's. My husband and I are big fans of Torchy's. We have only ever gone to the locations in San Antonio, but since we were in town, our family wanted to try it for themselves. What an awful "first impression" they had. They got the ENTIRE order wrong, except for mine and my husband, BUT there was something wrong with my husbands... he found THREE hairs in each of his tacos. GROSS! My first time in this joint. Cool place. But, what really stood out was the Customer Service: I ordered a taco with ingredients that I was allergic to without noticing. When I noticed, I said to my girlfriend (in a low, normal voice) that was allergic to one of the ingredients. I did NOT say a single word to the Staff. But, one of them heard it, made me a fresh taco without that ingredient, and served it with a smile at no charge. Awesome! read more

We were taken here by a friend after he raved on and on about it. I don't care much for tacos, but we decided to humor him and try it. Turns out, this is the only taco place that I love! I've tried: Trailer Park, Brushfire, Democrat, Republican, and Independent. I LOVE the Republican, especially with the diablo sauce. My fiance swears by the Trailer Park, trashy style. Actually, he swears by anything if you make it "trashy" - and I have to agree; queso makes everything better. The hillbilly chips and queso are delicious as well, and I find myself craving it more often that I probably should! We sat at the bar the last time we went, and while I'm not sure who we had, he was incredibly helpful in drink choices and I really recommend the sucker punch. We normally love love love Torchy's, we've been to at least 5 different locations and have never been disappointed... Until today. My usual favorite, the Democrat, is normally moist barbacoa offset nicely by the lime, with avocado. Today, sadly, it was dried out, came on a flour tortilla instead of the usual corn (and without explanation), and just fell far short of the mark. I tried the taco of the month, The Barn Burner, and while the flavors were great, the beef was very chewy and tough. Extremely slow and disorganized. The first sign of trouble was that they were out of shredded beef at 12 PM on a Saturday. We had a party of 5 who all ordered at the same time on two tickets. 3 of us got our tacos after about 10 minutes. After another 20 minutes of patiently waiting for the other tacos, I chased down a large guy who appeared to be the manager, and asked for him to check on our order. He acted bothered and only offered a "yeah we're backed up about 35 minutes, it's coming" and something about having two cooks or stations or something and then he walked off. Finally about 10 minutes later the last two orders came out. I can only compare this location to the one in Fort Worth on Rosedale - and that one runs so much smoother than this it's hard to believe they have the same operational policies. I also observed the servers scurrying around trying to figure out which order went where. At the FW location they give you a table top stand to display your number prominently. At this location you're given an electronic tracker with a small number on it which clearly didn't help the staff much to get the orders to the right tables quickly and accurately. This place needs a managerial overhaul and review. But I won't be back, and I'll try not to hold it against the other metro area locations the next time we're in the mood for tacos. read more

Admittedly I'm a sucker for Torchy's gringo tacos, so this Denton location brings me closer to one of my many food addictions. I came to the new Denton location for their grand opening event, and expected a bit of chaos. While yes the line was chaos in the form of a two plus hour wait in 102 degree heat, the staff really had it together and the food was great quality still. My food and drink order came out very quickly, which was surprising considering they were at capacity. It seems like the long wait before being let in was mostly people just diddly daddling at their tables. Ended up playing musical drinks with the table next to me, and we decided that the Sucker Punch and Cool Down were the most refreshing alcoholic drinks. The Strawberry Margarita was also good, but the others were just more unique. I'd have to say my favorite tacos are the Tipsy Chicken and Baja Shrimp. Seriously the bacon bourbon marmalade on the tipsy chicken can be eaten by the bucket, but your doctor and I don't recommend that. I also can't recommend the Lil' Nookies enough. They're fried chocolate chip cookie dough balls, but not that wet batter type that makes you hate yourself afterwards. The coating is crispy like a crunchy cookie, while the inside is gooey. Just don't question yourself. Join the dark, gooey side. read more

My husband and I stopped in here for some breakfast tacos. First time at this location, second time at any Torchys. No one was in line behind us so we were discussing menu options and what we wanted to share. The woman at the cash register appeared annoyed. Then we asked her a couple questions about the tacos, and she responded but acted so annoyed just to even be there. Another customer that had already ordered came up and asked her a quick question, when he left, she rolled her eyes and shook her head. So with that pleasantness, we ordered. She asked no questions of us, I had to tell her it was to-go. Then we weren't sure where the soda fountain was and she saw us looking and I finally had to ask her vs. her just pointing us in the right direction. She was so rude!! It's been a long time since we have encountered someone that blatantly unhappy to be at their job. The tacos and queso we got? All amazing!!!
