My favorite taco spot ever. I have been waiting for Torchy's to come to Oklahoma and now that it's finally here, my stomach and taste buds are so happy. My go-to taco is the trailer park, which is a fried chicken taco and I like it with the flour tortilla. I always ask to "make it trashy" which means they add shredded cheese instead of shredded lettuce (so much cheesier and better). If you want to add even more cheese, scoop out some of the green chili queso with a tortilla chip on to your taco and it is HEAVEN. The fried avocado taco is my next favorite. If you are vegetarian this is a good choice. My go-to appetizers are the chili queso and the black beans. It's safe to say the queso is the best queso I have ever had in my life. I could drink the queso from a cup, literally. The beans are topped with sour cream and Torchy's famous diablo sauce..it has a creamy consistency that makes it especially appetizing. My love for this place doesn't stop at the food. The drinks are delicious as well. The mango, strawberry, and swirl margaritas are not big, but they have little bits of fresh fruit in it, which make the drinks that much tastier. Alcohol content is not compromised with these drinks, so don't be fooled by the size of them. You will get a good buzz by just one drink! I HIGHLY recommend Torchy's! Torchy's Tacos charges a premium and serves mediocracy. My girlfriend and I arrived on a Friday afternoon, and the restaurant was crowded. We were greeted as soon as we entered, which was very nice. Torchy's Tacos provides menus to those waiting in line, however, there were none at the line entrance. Instead, they were stacked near the registers, where other patrons neatly put them away. Staff needs to move menus to the back of the line for waiting customers or else you would have to "cut" people in line to grab a menu. The employee taking our order was kind and courteous. She appeared very knowledgeable on the menu, and overall made us feel welcome at the restaurant. We simply ordered a drink and four tacos to go. The designated spot to wait for a carryout order is a small section of wall next to the drink counter. This is a terrible location as a group of people waiting for their takeout orders congregated on this wall and were consequently in the way of patrons places lids on their drinks. We ended up waiting in this spot for 40 minutes, and we were not the only patrons to wait 40 minutes for a takeout order. We received neither accommodation nor apology for our wait. When we ate, the tacos were labeled very clearly with stickers so we had no trouble identifying them. However, they were lukewarm. While the meat portions on tacos were great, the pork was bland and the fried chicken was overcooked and hard. Additionally, I tried both the corn and flour tortillas. As seen in the photos provided, the corn tortilla crumbled which made the taco very difficult to eat. After the extremely long wait for mediocre food, I would not recommend Torchy's Tacos. read more

6/27 update because yes I've been here that many times already. I decided to save my stomach space and only ordered queso. It came out lukewarm and I politely asked Gabriel for some hot queso, cause I knew how good it was hot. He delivered and all was well. Bartender suggested the cookies (they ran out of brownies) and it's fried cookie dough and it's LEGIT. Get it without the cherries and just eat it and don't think about the calories. ************************************ I used to eat at Torchy's in Dallas quite often, so I was pretty stoked they were coming to Norman! I've been counting down the days! Do not judge it by the pre-party, or even this first week. Go back like end of July when it's settled down. We went opening day Tuesday (after the pre-open party Monday) and ordered to go. The line was out the door. They were running 25 minute ticket times. We squeezed in at the bar. Most employees were helpful, with the exception of one guy that kept trying to give us food, despite us telling him 4 times we ordered to go until he finally huffed and muttered "they need to get these tickets right". Also, someone dropped a basket of chips all over the floor and I watched 4 people walk right by it, including what looked to be management or corporate trainers. Ew, rude. And that does not give off a teamwork vibe. Shoutout to the kid who came out of the kitchen, saw the mess and immediately grabbed a broom. Ok now food: Seriously their queso is my favorite part, it's similar to Chuy's but cheaper. So good. I tried the brownie bites and those were also really good! I typically get the democrat, but I branched out to green chile pork and the independent (fried mushroom) this time. Do not get tacos to go. They have awesome stickers that label the tacos, but they are room temp and the tortillas are steamed soggy by the time you get anywhere. Lesson learned there. The tacos were ok. Not as good as I remember (again maybe cause I got them to go) but also, just not as good as Puebla. They really set the bar here in Norman. The tacos here are just doing a little too much, like BTT. The street corn is a big no go for me. It's charred to the point it doesn't taste like sweet corn it just tastes like burned corn and it needed salt bad, or cotija cheese. The fresco is a bad choice. Blech, I'm asking a face as I type this just thinking about it. Maine Root (is that it?) soda fountain with Mexican coke which is a must! The point of this cola is real sugar, so the "syrup to carbonation ratio" is not like your typical Coke. If you've had Maine Root, you know. I wouldn't not go back. What happened?! On a Sunday evening we ordered a total of 9 tacos and Queso and chips which meant we spent over $60. it took at least 15 mins from the time we left the counter to the time we got our Queso. Ok fine, it was 'kind of busy' but not nearly as busy as our first visit. Our party was huuungry so we scarfed down the Queso and chips and it took a little while to finally wave down an employee to ask for more chips. We started to notice customers who sat down after us, receive their food and then leave and we still hadn't received our tacos. At this point it had been 45 minutes from the timestamp on our receipt. My husband had to get up and walk to the bar to speak to someone about our wait... 5 minutes later we got our tacos. Almost an HOUR for us to get our food. Definitely try not to write negative reviews in fact this is my first. But the last two times I've been to Torchy's I've ordered to go food and both times i ordered bit orders were incomplete. The first time it was a taco that was forgotten in my order the second was Refried beans. Not only did they forget to add my refried beans but they also brought my to go food out as a dine in order. This is unacceptable I'm not sure if they have new management or what exactly is going on in the kitchen but they definitely needs improvement. There should be no reason why the people who ordered after me ordered their dine in food, received their food ate said food and left before i was able to get my simple to go order. read more

SO glad we have a torchys! It's one of my favorite places to eat. They definitely put an interesting spin on tacos, but I promise it's delicious. They have great margaritas, made with fresh lime juice. We love the green chile queso. My favorite taco is the Baja shrimp on flour. Add queso and bacon to any taco to really take it to the next level. Love their poblano and chipotle sauce. My first trip to Torchy's was great. Started with the queso which is just as good as everyone says. It's on the spicier side of most restaurant queso and it's nice to have something a little different. For my tacos I went with the Democrat and the Baja Shrimp. Both were delicious and I think the Democrat will be my usual here. The meat was juicy and flavorful and the corn tortillas on both tacos were soft and fresh and smelled heavenly. Loved the tomatillo salsa that accompanied the Democrat. The Baja Shrimp was good as well and the breading on the shrimp was well seasoned, I just thought it completely overpowered the sauce that came with it--next time I'll ask for more. They've easily got some of the best tacos in town. They are on the larger side and along with the queso, two tacos were more than enough for me. It's a great price for the amount and quality. Newsflash: If the line is all the way back to the door when you arrive there may be a wait, but it isn't a long one by any means. On this visit since it was just me and my lunch companion we chose to sit at the bar where there was plenty of seating and our food was out in no time and piping hot. read more

First time and we were impressed! Service was fast, portions were very generous and each of that different tacos and salsa we tried were outstanding. Oh, and the chips, on point...light and crisp. Of course, I'm a fan of heat so I was in heaven. The green chile queso is so yummy!! My favorite taco is the brushfire. I love the option of doing a bowl vs getting it as a taco. The service was excellent. Fantastic staff - couldn't ask for better. The food was just meh, though. I ordered the Baja shrimp taco. The shrimp nuggets were fine - if they were eaten by themselves - but the tortilla was cold and doughy. When they brought the taco to my table, it literally looked bleh on the plate - like something I wouldn't want to put in my mouth. I wasn't impressed by the food, so I won't be back. One of my favorite places to eat. Nearly every menu item is delicious. I'm not expecting fast food times, but even so, the service can be noticeably slow. Things are a bit on the pricey side for what you get, but all the ingredients are premium. Every time I go, I can't seem to get the street corn to match the deliciousness of their location in Dallas. I almost wish it was more like the feel of the Dallas location as well. Here it just seems like a restaurant, but down in Dallas it really felt like a charming hole-in-the-wall/dive. Great food and spicy sauces!! First time eating here and we enjoyed it. One taco is enough for a light lunch! Mexican coke in a bottle and chips and salsa and a full bar! This place is a taco lovers dream!!! We'll be back for sure. My only real suggestion is to get some Mexican dr. Well the truth is that this is one of the best tacos I've ever had. If I were just reviewing the tacos, this would absolutely have been five stars. I ordered the baja shrimp and i loved every bite of it. I love that sauces come on the side, and that you can choose if you want your taco on a corn or flour tortilla. I also thought the chips and salsa were wonderful, and I loved the selection of fancy sodas. The ordering process was easy and they were quick to get our drinks and chips out to us. Kasey ordered the trailer park and the jerk chicken, and both of those were excellent as well. The atmosphere was a lot of fun, with tons of families, couples, big groups of friends. We sat on the big shady patio and got to people watch... the only problem was we were people watching for a looooong time... hence the missing star. It took at least 35 minutes to get our tacos after we ordered them. We had been car shopping since about 4:30, so we we came in at 8:30, not only were we hungry, but we were pushing it a little to get back to the city and get our daughter picked up from my parents and home in time for bed. I specifically picked Torchy's because I assumed it was fast casual. Casual, yes. Fast, not so much. And it's not that we had to wait in line a long time to order like other reviews have mentioned. We didn't have to wait to order at all. If we had, I probably would have expected the long wait for food. I'm talking 35 minutes after we ordered to get tacos. At some point I looked around at all the tables that had numbers hanging from them, and realized it was going to be a while. We finally ate and got out of there at about 9:40 - just over an hour, for what should have taken 30 minutes in total. They did come around to offer us more chips, and the food runner, Katie Jo, apologized for our long wait and I think had even jumped in from the bar to help run food as it came out, so all of that was a class act. I think they are probably just having some growing pains from being so good and so popular, and making everything from scratch is definitely worth the wait, but I still think they have a little work to do to get the food out more quickly. read more

Ordered two tacos but could only finish one. The portobello mushroom taco was delicious, a great combination of flavors. The queso was delicious as wellthough would enjoy less cilantro and more guacamole and Diablo sauce. The chips weren't the best chips but was happy to discover that they would refill them as had more queso than chips. 4 stars as the margarita was not very good. Had a lime and mango on the rocks. Much more rocks than margarita. More lime than anything else. Not so sure it was made with mango as it was pink and tasted of strawberry. Definitely, high cost for the margarita based on portion size will return. read more

I was not going to write a review but after speaking to the manager on the phone I decided that his boss should know how poor the service is. I was a restaurant manager and I would have lost my job if I allowed service to be this poor. I get a to go order every Friday after work. It is my cheat night meal for the week. 4 times they have forgotten to include the sauces that come with my tacos. They aren't special order, they are included with the specific taco. I have requested that they make sure to include them and they do not. I have called I have allowed them an opportunity 4 times to correct this and they continue to disappoint. Let me be clear the food is great but the service is poor, especially on a Togo order. I don't want free food I wanted the items I ordered and paid for correct. read more

So happy we have a Torchy's! I usually get the Trailer Park and I always get it "trashy" to add the queso. Two will usually fill me up but we usually get the guacamole or queso dip - both add a little spice but you cannot stop eating it. I wish I could say I have tried others but I haven't been able to get away from the Trailer Park just yet. I'm usually not a frozen drink person but I had one of their frozen drinks (orange something?) and I had a regular margarita - you honestly cannot go wrong with either! Torchy's is a must! read more

Not worth the wait. Even when it's not busy, it's still slow. The lobby has been dirty since the first week. The funky walls along the tables have just been accumulating filth as if nobody ever wipes them off. There are always dirty tables, sticky floors, etc. We once told someone about a soda spill on the floor when we arrived- still there when we left. Haven't been back. If the two times I've eaten at Torchy's are indications of daily issues then there could be long term trouble. First, long lines with only 1-2 of the 3 registers manned. My wife ordered a Mr Orange, rice and beans. I ordered a democrat bowl, rice and guacamole. Oh wait, out of guacamole at 12:30pm. Ok I'll take a side of pico de Gallo. Missed my ice tea twice. Very busy, but staff is clearing and cleaning tables fast. We get our seat and I go to the bar to get my wife a Modelo Negra. I wait patiently as it's busy. Bartender says sorry she will be with me shortly. I say it's good to see their busy and I'd like the beer just in the bottle when she has a chance. As I wait I overhear the other bartender gruffly tell a waiter that someone had been waiting 25 minutes for a food item. Food arrives within 15 minutes. I tell waitress that I have a pico de gallo missing. She then returns with a 1 tablespoon plastic cup. I'm thinking to myself this was $2.50?, no way. I then ask someone if the tablespoon cup is the $2.50 order and she says no and then brings me the appropriate side. The food is good. Here is the Conversation my wife and I had over our meal. What does torchys want to be? It's great that they have a bar but I wouldn't go there for just drinks. The food is better than del taco and Taco Bell, but to me isn't as good as sitdown Mexican restaurants in Norman. For the $25 we spent you could get a massive amount of food at Taco Bell. You could eat pretty well at Tarahumara's and the service would be immaculate. I'm guess I'm saying we won't return. I don't know what these types of restaurants in which order before you can sit down (self service)and eat are called. I have been to some that are doing better than others. I should preface by saying that I have unusually high expectations of Torchy's. I was a frequent flyer at Torchy's in ATX before they were loved by all (I know- sounds super hipster and lame, but it's true). This place is amazeballs. The employees are friendly, and the homemade salsa is fantastic. They have surprisingly delicious margaritas, too (if you like them on the limey side, which in my unprofessional opinion is the only way to enjoy a margarita). The queso is a game changer, even if you're lactose intolerant- holla! Worth it! I always get the same: Mister Orange-even in a landlocked state; it's still delicious! And the potato and egg breakfast taco. I've tried other menu items, but these items have never let me down or left me heartbroken. You won't find better tacos in Norman. You just won't. read more

Ordered on the "online" system since the phone system was down. Was notified it would be 20 minutes. Arrived at exactly 20 minutes. They couldn't find the order and said "the online system loses orders". They re-took my order and said the would rush it. After waiting another 20 minutes inquired where order was. I was told that there were still 6 orders ahead of mine. At this point just asked for a refund. Manager acted "putout" he had to take time out to give a refund. My first call tomorrow mourning is to the corporate headquarters DONT GO!!! read more
