I was searching for a nearby winery and this was the only one open on Easter Sunday! It is only an hour drive from the Brooklyn/Queens area. I came here with my fiancé and his family. We started with a wine tasting by the bar, which is $8 for 8 wines. There are more whites than reds available. I was able to swap out one of the sweeter wines to taste a new rose that was available, since I am not into sweet wines that much. After the tasting we selected two bottles that we liked the most and purchased them at the table to have with some food. The weather was beautiful so we were able to sit outside. There is also seating inside as well as on the veranda which is covered but still gives you the outside view. We started with a cheese & charcuterie plate and then got some entrees. This is not your typical winery food but it was still tasty! There was live music playing outside. It's a nice property but I'm not impressed. My friend drove an hour and 20 minutes to wait 2 hours on line. I joined her about an hour in because of bad traffic (a 2 hour drive). She was able to go in and buy tickets for the tasting. The ground has a lot of land so we were confused why the outdoor tasting area was so small. Nevertheless, we finally get seated around 4 (2 hr wait for her, 1 hr for me). We got a choice of 5 out of about 14 wines including white, red and rosé. The service we received was cold and disengaged. I don't know if that's the norm. It was a mediocre experience. P.s. if it interests you, I wouldn't say there's a particular dress code. Stop no. 1 With my good close friends as party of three our adventure starts with Torne Valley Vineyards. Wine tastings of $8.00 for 8 pcs (6 whites and 2 reds). Their tasting glasses, oddly, do not have their company logo or name printed as I have a nice collection of previous wineries' glasses. I enjoyed the Sweet Summertime (semi-sweet red) and Traminette (dry red). Our female server was attentive and informative to explain the wine contents and their grape origins from Seneca Lake in NYS's Finger Lakes region. What baffled me was her unknowingly false statement of their reds "low sulfites." It is proven false claim as my friend and fellow Yelper, Marlene G. who is highly allergic and quickly developed visible red rashes. The female server opened her mouth stunning widely without a response for comment as her lack of defense to counter a false claim. Wine sulfites is sulfur dioxide (SO2), a preservative that's widely used in wine making (and most food industries) for its antioxidant and antibacterial properties. SO2 plays an important role in preventing oxidization and maintaining a wine's freshness. (source: Wikipedia) I like their tasting card as it is well organized and very detailed with photos of mini white labels. I am highly enamored with their grape descriptions as I highly desired to take it home but it was laminated and not for customers to remove. Torne Valley Vineyards' wine labels designs are very whimsical and I enamored with their autumn leaves sketches. I like the craved wooden black bears on their property. The greenery landscape is beautiful, but do not expect to see grapes growing. Business card and flyers are readily available for grabs. Our party of three were baking in the outdoor's summer blazing humidity and heat as there was live music and entertainment of a two piece band. We ordered the Cabernet Franc (dry red) and cheese with grapes platter enduring this mediocre two piece band. This two piece band (female lead vocal and lead guitar; male guitar and percussion) lack energy and lack enthusiasm as very stolid. The cheese and crackers were abundant as it was my combined breakfast and lunch. When requesting specific songs as "Mother" by Danzig and "Lola" by The Kinks this indifferent and mediocre band does NOT know these songs nor the bands who originated these songs. Whoa, The Kinks are classic rock which any musician should know. I fear to place my song requests in as this mediocre 2-piece band would not know "It's Time" by Imagine Dragons, "Best Day Of My Life" by American Authors, "I Miss You" by Stevie Nicks, "Here's To Us" by Halestorm, "No Scrub" by TLC, "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction, or "The Color Of Right" by Rush. We were looking for a winery near Bergen county without having to go to the Warwick, NY area and stumbled upon this place on yelp. We were not disappointed at all. The winery is basically a small estate and the grounds are absolutely stunning. We went in the winter and it was tastefully decorated for the holidays but I imagine it would be a great place to go in the summer/spring and relax outside or on the patio. We did a tasting and the wines were quite nice. There were a few sweet wines but I'm more of a dry girl and we really enjoyed their dryer wines, specifically the reds that they had. They were pretty generous with the tasting and had chocolates and crackers to go with the tasting which was a nice touch. The winery also has an on-site restaurant (limited menu) but we enjoyed everything we had and it was great to not have to lug our own food with us like we do at most wineries. They also had a band playing. Definitely a spot I will return to as long as I am in Bergen and recommend it to anyone in the area looking for a nice winery without having to put in a big drive. read more

Came here for a grateful dead event. Torne Valley Vineyards is in a beautiful location for sure, a nice hidden gem! The music was good and the band and people were very enthusiastic. The prices were a bit steep though. $20 to park, all food was at least $5-6 for basic hot dogs, burgers, and fries. Wine and beer was about $7 a glass or you could buy a bottle which would be more economical. The mixed drinks were at least $13-$15 which is a bit ridiculous for an outdoor event, we're close to NYC not in it! You could not go into the building during the event. There were portapotties which is always EW. But they were fairly clean, just sucks to go into on a hot, humid day. The white wine I had was super sweet which is what I wanted for the day, I'm curious to see what other types of wine they have. Overall, nice atmosphere, but I'd be more curious to see what the place is like on a regular day, or why not open up the winery on a Sunday during the event? read more

Loved the setting and the wine tasting was fun. Especially when you are seated with other friendly folks. We sat and had 2 parties of 2 that joined our table during our tasting time. Nicest folks. Food wise my husbands quesadilla was good but the cheese platter I ordered was fair. Little blocks of cheddar, Jack and pepper Jack. A few shreds of prosciutto and lots of pepperoni. I asked for no goat cheese, but the cheese I received was like the kind you get at a cocktail hour nothing stood out. The servers, music and staff were great! read more

Invited by a friend for lunch and music. She had a gift certificate that was about to expire. The hostess was, as usual, rude. Just, plain rude. She would not let me go in with my water bottle. She said there are no containers allowed. I guess she felt she needed to drill this point into my head because she said "it's on our website (it's not), on our voicemail, etc. What was the point? The food was mediocre at best and the music worse. It was too loud for a small indoor space. Our bill was about $15 less than the total amount of the gift certificate and my friend wanted to give the balance to our server as a tip. The owner would not allow it, so my friend ended up buying a bottle of wine, which she didn't want and we left a tip in cash. When we left, the same rude hostess said "love you" (WHAT?) and said "if you're bored, we're open the next two Saturdays. I've had many gift cards in my life and I've never had an establishment not allow the balance to go towards a tip. Bad customer service. Rude owners. Spend your time and money at an establishment who practices good customer service. The place was empty too. read more

Took my girlfriend here on her birthday. We loved it. Awesome atmosphere with a beautiful view from the outdoor patio. The tasting was fun and the service was great. We shared a cheese platter that was also delicious. Only 2 reds on their wine list was a bit of a bummer for me since i love the red. But they were good and the white's weren't bad either. Enjoyed snacks and a great bottle of wine here. My boyfriend and I originally came here for a wine tasting, however due to the large volume of business this was not an option today. Parking was tricky as this place gets packed quickly. We waited on line for less than 30 mins and ordered a bottle of the Traminette and a Cheese/Meat plate. Service was quick, efficient and COVID-safe. We were able to wander over to the back lawn area near the creek and sat on the grass to enjoy an impromptu picnic. I came here last weekend with some friends. We made sure to get there early. We paid for several wine tastings and were told we would have to wait 20 minutes because of limited seating in the wine tasting tent. No big deal!! We found a nice table on the grass and waited there until it was our turn. Our server said it was FINE to leave our jackets and other belongings at the table so we could return to it after the tasting. The tasting was nice but could have offered more than just 4, as there were 12 wines total to choose from. We were on our last wine when the owner Debbie comes over with my bag and says we cannot do a tasting and keep a table at the same time. We advised her that the waiter said it was okay. She ignored this and continued to yell at me for leaving my bag at the table. I advised her that I had my wallet and everything important on me and the bag just contained water, lotion, and other unimportant items. She again, yelled at me for doing this. Extremely unprofessional between the yelling and not taking any accountability for their waiter and what he told us. We then migrated to the dining area where there was live music. One of my friends went to ask the hostess to ask where the bathroom was and he heard Debbie complaining about our party to the hostess. Again, so rude and unprofessional. Once she noticed my friend, she gasped and looked embarrassed. Due to Debbie's rude behavior we will NOT be back. Some positives though (and the reason for the 2 stars): the Traminette wine, the live music was great, and our server Hailey was amazing. She had so many tables and managed to get to them all! My husband and I have come here a few times. The grounds and old Victorian home are beautiful. The staff is very outgoing and accommodating and the wait staff is on point. Why then do I give this place only two stars? It has nothing to do with the wine. Anyone who comes on Yelp and criticizes the wine, knows nothing about wine. It is very hard to grow grapes in NY/NJ and the wine you can make is not great. It will never compare to Cali or France. That being said the wine they have is a good stander NJ/NY wine. NOW to the subject of the food in the restaurant. One of three things is going on in this restaurant. 1. The owners do not care. (given the well trained staff I do not think that is the case) 2.The old house is not set up of a commercial kitchen and has trouble handling the larger crowds. (I think this is very true,( I say that having never seen the kitchen) But that would be a poor excuse. 3. There chef is lacking in both skill and knowledge. That is evident in the choices he/she has made on how to handle a kitchen with size and staffing constraints. The inexperienced chef has brought in a bunch of frozen product. From the boxed frozen chicken dumplings and wings, to the precut processed cheese cubes and cheap boxed crackers. ( A crime at a winery)Food quality and the owners profits have been tossed out the window. If you asked the Chef why he serves frozen food? I would bet you he would say there is nothing he can do and he has to bring in frozen crap because of the size of the kitchen or lack of staffing. The owners being wine makers and not chefs have to fall back on his word. This place has more potential then I have seen in many years and I hope next year that rethink there menu and food program so they survive and thrive. read more

Such a great experience here on Saturday. I chose Torne Valley after doing some Yelp searching, as it was close to my apartment and seemed like an adorable winery based off the pictures. We were greeted at the front desk where all of the options were clearly explained to us. We decided to do the tasting which included 7 wines (normally 8 but they were out of one red wine) for 7 bucks- which was well worth it. The woman pouring our wines was extremely knowledgable and gave us interesting details about each of the wines she poured. We then decided to enjoy a glass of one of our favorites (Chardonnay) from the tasting at a table outside (followed by a second glass of the sangria). There was live music and great service, which made the ambiance relaxing and enjoyable. We weren't planning on eating there but the dishes coming out looked so good that we decided to split the chicken panini and the Torne Valley Salad- which were delicious! The service and the ambiance made visiting TVW such a pleasant experience and I will definitely be back! read more

Went with a group of 6. Seated in the tasting room promptly. This place was very busy but we all still managed to get everything we needed in a reasonable amount of time. They have plenty of wines to choose from, beer, spirits and sangria. They also have a good amount of food options...highly recommend the special they had going on for fall: thanksgiving sandwich...(always in to try that). It was delish. Other members in my party got: chicken panini, cheeseburger and for the table we split the lemon parmesan waffle fries (omg!) and the cheese platter. The cheese platter was to die for. I'd go back just for that. It was a little cold so I didn't get to see the grounds as much as I wanted to but from the short time I was outside it looked stunning. Very clean and put together. I understand that it's a busy Saturday but every time we asked our waitress for something it was like she was doing us a favor. It took 50 min to order food and 50 min to get it. When we ordered the second round of bottles of wine the busboy brought them over, took our empties and put them in the ice bucket. We went to Torne valley on the whim today. Our server, Becky, was great and explained the specials as well as provided excellent service. We ordered a bottle of white which was 17, or 18 I believe. We also ordered the cheese plate and the pretzels. The cheese plate had a good array on there. The fancy crackers and pepper jack cheese we excellent. We also ordered the wings, which I apologize do not have a picture of but they were good. We finished them up. There was live music, as there usually is and it added a nice ambience to the evening there. All in all not a bad evening out. They have come a ways with the food options, years ago the food was hit or miss but now they have an array and good food to munch on with some good wine. Took a ride up here this past weekend and definitely will be returning especially once the warmer weather comes back. The tasting for $8 is a good deal and you get a sample of each of the wines. The wife of one of the owners and namesake of the Kimmie's Crush wine was the one doing our tasting. She was really nice and gave her comments on each of the wines throughout.. After we finished we decided to grab a bottle and a bite to eat and when she saw us waiting on a table she went into the dining area and found us one. We intended on really just snacking which the food was suited perfectly for. We had the cheese plate and the chicken dumplings. I don't think I would come here intending on having a full meal. The only thing I didn't really care for was how loud the music was in the dining area. Luckily We didn't sit in the main room because it would have been way too loud to have any kind of conversation. They had a bunch of tables together for us. The owner took a table away from us telling us she needed the table for four people. (There were two of us at it. ). Not many people know about this gem tucked behind 87/17/59, next door to the sports complex, but it's one of the most gorgeous wineries I've ever been to! Vines, great lawns, and the ramapo river add to the ambiance of this 19th century converted mansion. Every wine we sampled at the tasting (separate from their restaurant, $10 for 5 out of their 13 wines) was tasty - my faves are their geuwertz and traimanette! We loved the staff and wines so much we decided to stay for lunch at their outside restaurant (first come first serve-no reservations, so i recommend coming early (they open at 11am) to avoid a potential wait list) and boy were our taste buds happy we did! the quesadilla and pizza off their regular menu were filling and delicious, and even more so their specials of shrimp tacos and short rib sandwich! fyi they let us know the kitchen closes at 4pm so make sure you order your lunch in time! they even have live music every sat and sun from 1-5pm to enjoy while you're drinking/eating. theres a beautiful outside bar too if you're looking for a quick drink or bite and don't want to take up a whole table. we will be returning for sure - they're open year round every weekend :) and we wanna try their fri night summer concerts - they serve a dinner menu with lively danceable music, a great date night idea! read more

A lovely spot for a low-key afternoon. Easy drive from Hudson County but it felt like we were in a different world. A smaller winery, the vines are young, but we did the tasting and there was a nice variety. The wines were pleasant, not mind-blowing but easy to sip and would pair well with foods. Met the winemaker and his wife in the Tasting Room, they seem to be very hands-on. We didn't eat but took a walk down to the banks of the Ramapo River to put our feet in the grass and enjoy the water. I wish they allowed blankets, the patio was a bit cramped and loud on a busy Labor Day, but overall, worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

Food was sent out with no napkins, silverware or plates. We had to ask multiple times until we actually got the items. Chicken dumplings and buffalo wings were fine. DO NOT order the burger unless you like the taste and consistency of a hockey puck. The portobello panini was more veggie panini - do not expect an actual portobello mushroom to be on your sandwich.
