    Unprofessional contact from Otto's
    Kevin S.

No, Otto's -- I'm not altering my review. A year after I posted my original review, I was contacted directly by the restaurant. I was not offered an apology for the multiple issues we experienced, including the band-aid in our take-home container. Instead, I was asked why I hadn't deleted a picture from my review, as they believe I have "made my point." Otto's contact speaks volumes. It shows a clear lack of accountability and concern for customer experience and food safety. I have attached a screenshot of the message to this review for full transparency. My original one-star rating stands, now reinforced by this unprofessional follow-up.

I was prepared to give Otto's three stars. And then we found a bandaid in the to go box that the server packed with our bread. Speaking of service, she was the only one working the dining room and although it wasn't full, there were still about six or seven tables. There were delays in getting bread and drinks. Speaking of drinks, my daughter's mocktail had a bug in it and it took forever to get a replacement. I blame the manager who should've been helping his server out. I had the ramen. It was pretty good. My daughter had the rigatoni Calabrese and it had a strange flavor profile I couldn't put my finger on. Hubby had the burger and liked the patty but the fries were very salty. Dessert seemed promising with a chocolate soufflé cake. The pastry chef clearly doesn't know what a soufflé is. It was a fudgey cupcake. It was tasty, but not soufflé. I won't be back.

We came in for a drink before our lunch. So glad we did. A man playing piano, packed seats and a beautiful day with the garage doors to the venue open up to the bustling sidewalk. Piermont has always been that quaint town that I pray never loses its vibe. It has a soul like no other. We will definitely come back for a meal.. the dishes we saw being served looked fabulous. And the decor and service was amazing as well.

David Kaliff purchased this old service garage in 2018 for $1.2 million and turned it into a new American restaurant and bar in the heart of Piermont village. We made reservations for a very late brunch since I wanted to peruse the farmer's market beforehand. We got sat and were immediately impressed with the decor. First thing we noticed was that the host doesn't drop menus when you get sat. Unfortunately the long wait for a menu was foreshadowing. GM Joshua Alvarez (gorgeous local NY photographer and an Aries, just like me!), impeccably dressed in a summer suit in the DEAD of fall, loafers sans socks, wore a beautiful curly mane and was seen walking around from the main room to a private room and checking the expo line constantly. He did see our table, saw us waiting for some attention, met my gaze a few times, but he was pretty busy with the private party in the other room. Word was his sister was there and you know, family first! No worries, Assistant GM Sharard E Hart was there so we waited for him to greet us and maybe assure us that we'd be taken care of soon...Maybe drop a couple of menus and offer some recommendations. Unfortunately that didn't happen either. I looked over at my husband, growing skinnier by the minute. I looked around trying to catch someone's eye and thankfully a server came by and acknowledged we had been waiting a while and apologized. He let us know our server would be with us soon. Finally Bill arrived. He reminds me of Dane Cook, very polite and a bit jittery. He offered us water and we gave our drink orders. I saw my H.B.I.C. Cocktail from a small window to the bar just sitting there, losing its frost. Oh, boy. We need runners! GM Josh was purely there for aesthetics in his pale sage suit and his assistant was there for the vibes because they did not come by at all to touch our table or help out poor Bill. That's okay. A long while later I was able to order our food and an even longer while later the aguachile app came out. It was lackluster, spicy, I could taste seasonings but no salt. Our entrees took so long I was about to just ask for the check, we were starving at that point. My husband even had time to go pick up a pie from the farmers market and he admitted he almost bought a snack there! Without me! The entrees finally came and I didn't let Bill leave immediately. I asked for the check, I didn't want to wait any longer--there's barely any sunlight left in the day and we had a long drive home back to Jersey. Bill apologized again, we chowed down, and when the check came I dropped my card to not waste time. Bill offered us free coffee or dessert but we were ready to go home, thanks Bill. I noticed a commotion at the expo line, Bill must've let Chef Phil know what was going on and I braced myself to get waterboarded with a waterfall of apologies. Chef Phil offered to take care of us the next time we visit but I wanted to nip that idea in the bud, there is no next time. I was there THIS time. What happened? Then Sharard wanted to say a few words of apology as well and even offered us his card claiming he was too busy to stop by our table. I wish this place the best of luck, it's got a great look and pretty good food. If you come tell them I sent you. You can have my free dessert.

Beautiful place with great service and food! We enjoyed the mussels, ceviche and fennel as appetizers, and rigatoni for our main meal! We went on a Wednesday night to hear their jazz band which was lovely!

The seafood paellas are portion perfect ie; large, the tapas favorites include garlic shrimp, octopus, croquetas, Iberico ham, lamb chops, and seasonal specials. Because the dining room is relatively small, expect a noisy environment. Weekend waits can be long because of this restaurant's popularity, but it is so worth the wait. If one arrives early, there will be no problem with sitting at the bar or nabbing a table. The staff is friendly, the clientele is neighborly, and you're guaranteed to enjoy your restaurant experience here. For Piermont, it's one of the strongest dining experiences available, particularly if one enjoys sharing plates. If you're going for the first time, I'd order the garlic shrimp, a few tapas to share, and one of the paellas for the table. The building itself is white with with a blue door and accents and the walkway from the entrance to the dining area is decorated with sculptures in recessed cubbies in the wall. The main dining room is spacious and inviting with a lush ceiling and touches of warm, golden furnishings. It was bustling on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Diners were seated indoors and outdoors. We didn't get a chance to see the outdoor space but on a hot and sunny day, my family was fine and comfortable in the shade indoors. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Once I was seated and waiting for the rest of my party, he advised the time for last orders to be placed. My party of 6 ordered almost every appetizer and several of the limited number of mains offered on the lunch menu. The appetizers came out as they were ready. The beet salad and lobster salad came out first and were refreshing. The saganaki and watermelon appetizer was an interesting pairing and surprisingly delightful. We ordered two of the grilled octopus as it's usually a favorite within my group when dining at a Greek or Mediterranean establishment. Unfortunately, the octopus came chopped in small pieces and was uninteresting. IMHO this dish is not worth the price or the calories. Of the set of 4 spreads/dips, all were tasty and went nicely with the accompanying pita bread. We ended up doubling on this. The crispy shrimp and calamari, eggplant and zucchini chips, and the Greek meatballs were satisfying and a hit with everyone. Despite the disappointment with the grilled octopus, overall the appetizers were much more impressive than the entrees. For our mains, we got 2 of the filet mignon with eggs, the sirloin burger, the Lountza sandwich, the chicken souvlaki, the crispy shrimp wrap, and the shrimp roll. If we had to rank these dishes, the chicken would top the list, followed by the sirloin burger, and the rest would be last. Consistency in preparation and flavor profiles of the dishes is lacking. For example, we requested the filets cooked medium, however one filet was medium in some parts, medium rare in others. Personally, I enjoy medium rare and ate those pieces. As for the other filet, it was medium rare and borderline rare and inedible for my party. We requested additional heat for the dish, which the kitchen accommodated, but the meat came back basically well done SMH. While the chicken and burger were juicy and appetizing, the other dishes, albeit topped with many ingredients, were bland. Perhaps the kitchen was overwhelmed, which resulted in receiving our entrees about two hours after placing the order and the poor, or at least decline in quality of, execution of our dishes. Considering the restaurant has been open almost two years, it is normal to expect experience in managing the weekend crowds. While we were advised about the hard stop on placing orders, it was a missed opportunity for our waiter to check if we wanted to add desserts to our meal. No warning or follow-up was made as the cutoff time was approaching. Normally, I would praise the experience and service, but the final straw was in the handling of leftovers and with the valet. We had several unfinished or untouched dishes we wanted packed to go. Upon checking the containers at home, not everything was packed. When waiting outside for our cars, one of our cars was already pulled up with the door open and ready to be driven away. Problem was, the car belonged to my sister, who was in the restroom at the time and had her ticket. Anyone could've driven her car away. Thankfully the valet cooperated and drove the car to the side and my sister retrieved it without incident. Overall, the experience was lengthy and off-putting. If you need a beautiful space with a good selection of small bites and have hours to spare, e.g. a special event, then this place is for you. If you are interested in a full meal, and have only 2-3 hours for a meal, this is not the place for you.

My name is Sam, and my wife Amanda and I spent a long time searching for a venue that felt elegant but still warm and personal--and the Manor delivered on every level. From the very beginning, the experience was seamless. The staff was incredibly organized, responsive, and genuinely invested in making our day special. Planning a wedding can feel overwhelming, but they guided us through every step with patience and clarity. No question felt too small, and no request felt like a burden. That kind of support made a huge difference for us. The venue itself is stunning. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and the manor has this timeless, classic charm that makes everything feel elevated without being stuffy. Our ceremony was held outdoors, and even in early April, the setting felt magical. The landscaping created the perfect backdrop for photos--honestly, we barely had to "pose" because every angle looked incredible. Inside, the reception space was just as impressive. The room felt spacious but still intimate, and everything flowed perfectly--from cocktail hour to dinner to dancing. The staff coordinated everything so smoothly that Amanda and I were actually able to relax and enjoy the night instead of worrying about logistics. One thing that really stood out was the food. We had heard good things beforehand, but it exceeded expectations. Our guests are still talking about it weeks later. From the cocktail hour selections to the main courses, everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. They were also very accommodating with dietary needs, which was important to us. If I could give one piece of advice to future brides and grooms, it would be this: trust the team at Old Tappan Manor. They know exactly what they're doing. We came in with a vision, but they elevated it in ways we didn't even think of. Let them guide you--it will take so much stress off your shoulders. Also, take time on the day to really soak it in. The setting, the atmosphere, the way everything comes together--it goes by quickly, but it's unforgettable. Amanda and I both had moments where we just looked around and thought, "This is perfect," and that's something we'll carry with us forever. We truly couldn't have asked for a better place to start our marriage. If you're considering Old Tappan Manor, don't hesitate. It's not just a beautiful venue--it's a team that cares deeply about making your day everything it should be. --Sam & Amanda

Valet parking and the car was returned in the same condition we left it. The service was friendly and professional. A clear sign of excellent training was when I approached a server at the cocktail reception to inquire about my allium allergies, she immediately brought the banquet, maître D to discuss the options for me. It was clear that the allergy was not communicated to the establishment or within the establishment. Nonetheless, the concern was handled with care and thoughtful professionalism. The options that were still available to me or communicate communicated, and I had a wonderful meal. The grounds and garden are well designed for outdoor services. In this case, an outdoor wedding. Chairs were comfortable, and the fountain in the background created a lovely atmosphere and photo opportunity. The one critique I have is that no covering such as a gazebo or tent, was insight and thunderstorms were eminent. If I could recommend anything to the management, it would be to have this option on hand to avoid distractions from the actual ceremony. When thunder crackled in the background, we secretly hoped that the service would come to an end in time. Everyone was dressed in evening attire, so a gazebo or tent would have been appreciated. We were not inside more than 15 minutes when the skies did open up. Catastrophe averted. With the exception of one server who spilled wine on my son's newly pressed shirt, Service was meticulous. In the case of the red wine incident, this could have been averted by wrapping the wine bottle appropriately in a service linen. A little more training in this area would be recommend recommended. All in all, a solid four star event. The filet mignon, French green beans, and magnificent desserts were a five star Cleverly, our hosts prepared and end to the night with a coffee station and Donuts cleverly hanging on Hooks. The donuts were exceptional. It's difficult to rate without knowing the cost per person so I am limiting my rankings beginning with a five star and deducting minimally for a couple of challenges in service. The banquet maître D was exceptional.
