I've been here twice downstairs for private parties and always had a great experience. They allow outside food during private events (along with ordering from their menu and using the bar), which is a nice perk. This time, I stopped in on a Friday night to check out the upstairs. The drinks were a 10/10 -- absolutely delicious and strong without skimping. The daiquiri and the chips and salsa were definitely the highlights of the night. The food was just okay. The garlic shrimp were pretty good, but the rice lacked flavor and the refried beans were barely a tablespoon spread across the plate. We also had the shrimp cocktail appetizer, which was just alright -- the shrimp were a little tough. Service was great. The waiter was friendly and attentive and moved fast! Overall, it's a fun vibe and a great spot to hang out and catch up over drinks, but I'd come more for the bar than the food. Been going to Toro Loco for years but haven't been in a long time and it was just as good as I remembered. The frozen margaritas are delicious and strong! I went for happy hour 4-6pm in the bar which had $6 margaritas and $5-9 appetizers. I enjoyed the street corn which was covered in toppings. I shared the mini chicken chimi and wings which were flavorful and tasty. I felt the portions were decent to fill us up for dinner. They even had live music in the bar area on Wednesday nights! Been here many times and came back last night. I'm a big fan of Toro Loco overall. The frozen margarita is chefs kiss so good, and they have them on affordable happy hour specials. Now the food was good as always but I do think they could kick up the spice level. The waiters were very kind but not extremely attentive. The interior I like a lot, but it's getting a bit tired and they might want to make a couple changes to keep the space fresh. Toro Loco has amazing food and such a fun atmosphere. Everything I've had there has been delicious, and the staff has always been friendly and welcoming. I especially love the outdoor dining area. It's really nice to sit outside when the weather is good. I just wish there was a little more seating available outdoors because it's such a great space. The inside is also very cute and lively, but it can feel a little crowded at times, especially during busy hours. One thing to keep in mind is that it's not the most handicap accessible, which may be difficult for some people. They also do not do separate checks, so that's helpful to know before going with a group. They are also closed Mondays. Overall, the food and atmosphere definitely make it worth visiting, and I would still recommend it to anyone looking for great Mexican food in South Orange. read more

I sat at the bar and the service was okay. The bartender needed help. As for the food, I got appetizers of beef empanadas and quesadilla. Instant regret when they came out. Not good. Store bought salsa and stale chips. I had steak fajitas which had no seasoning on them at all. It came with a tiny side of dry cold rice and canned refried beans that were so old the top was dried out. They did not provide the usual sides like pico and cheese. This place hosted my niece's baptism party on very short notice when the original venue closed two days before the event. The staff was friendly, got a lot if different orders right and out to 40 people at the same time. Food was yummy. I especially enjoyed the mango margaritas and guacamole. read more

Sat outdoors, a few bugs flying around. Staff was nice. But the flavors of the food needed some more seasoning and were on the semi-bland side. The deep fried ice cream was okay as well. The watery salsa had chunks of onion and was bland. My friend ordered the fajita trio w/ chicken, shrimp, & and steak, and it was barely seasoned. I ordered the skirt steak with rice & refried beans, which were more like pureed beans The steak was seasoned with salt & and pepper, and the rice, maybe 1 chicken-flavored bouillon cube was added to the water as the rice was boiling. We ate our food because we were ravenous, and any sustenance would have been acceptable at that point. Did we enjoy the food, NOPE! The drinks were good. So, come here for the drinks, NOT THE FOOD! My favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Probably one of the best in the state. The food is delicious, the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, the ambiance is charming. I've friends and always bragged that this was my favorite Mexican restaurant. Being from LA, it was a thrill find this place. The place is the same, however the food has a lot to be desired for(well at least my meal) I had a shrimp enchilad. ( which Ive had several times before) this tasted like a tortilla with less flavor that ketchup. this would have been just a lesson not to ask for this again and try something new. but I'm not going back. because I was asked 4x's back to back to back if everything was alright. 3 of them were after I got the check. I always have a good time here! They have usual who come out all the time to the bar area. Their margaritas are THE BEST. I order a half pitcher for like $15 and although it looks small that tiny pitcher it's PACKED with tequila. One pitcher had my friend and I toasted. Couldn't finish the second one we ordered. What can I say about Toro Loco??? Came here for drinks on Friday and ended back here again the next night, thats how awesome it was. Oscar and Edgar were both extremely friendly. I sat at the bar and ordered the Toro Fajita. Ive had better but it wasn't bad. A little more seasoning. Just a tad and it is perfection. The guac here is good and the drinks delicious. Didn't have the Sangria. Had a well drink instead. Oscar and Edgar made sure to keep them coming. The place is clean with nice wall art and great music. One chief complaint is that I wish they had brunch deals accompany by Champagne. I'd bet they'd make a killing.
