On the day of the road test the instructors…read moreson came to pick my daughter up. 5 minutes later I'm getting texts from daughter saying 'They got pulled over by a state trooper, because he was on his cell phone while driving.' (She was the passenger) This kid denies and blatantly lies to the officer, so the trooper makes him step out of the car for a "chat". She texted me angry bc she was going to be late. And she was freaking out bc she didn't know what was happening. The kid got a ticket, gets back in the car and proceeds to complain the whole way to the testing site about how HIS day & weekend is ruined. She was late for her allotted test time but they let it go. She was already nervous about passing the road test but at this point her anxiety was through the roof! Unfortunately her nerves got the best of her and she failed her test. I truly believe this experience was part of the reason she failed. But not even a phone call to give an apology- really?? Or at least call to suggest a lesson or two for free for her next scheduled road test. We got nothing! No apology and no acknowledgement of this incident. They just ignored the whole situation as if it didn't happen!

Each lesson was explained by the book, then demonstrated, then simulated by the class on still bikes, then put into practice in motion. While training a class of 11 people, the instructors were able to give individual attention to how each student was handling the lesson, executing the exercise and able to handle the bike. Constructive criticism was usually served with a smile & friendly comment, and praise was always given. It was structured and professional, with constant reinforcement on safety and awareness of risk.

Period…read more I took a class that was run by a rushed instructor at Queens Community College, named JP, in the month of September. He split his time between instructing us (yelling really) and his instructors-in-training (again yelling.) The class ended up running very late due to a delayed start by the instructor (he was spending his time arguing with a student) and another class was waiting to begin toward the middle of our instruction. I, being the slowest learner in the group, ended up being cut around the time that the new class showed up. I didn't have an issue with this in itself, but it's ridiculous for a first-time motorcycle user (what this class is supposed to be geared toward) to lose out on a lesson he paid for due to a class running late. I was even asked by JP whether I had ever ridden a motorcycle or used a manual transmission during my training (not something I was required to do.) After that I spoke to the manager about my issue and he assured me that I wouldn't have to worry given my experience and that I had a year to re-take another class. The manager was very nice and understanding about my situation, but I haven't heard from him again since that call. Instead, I've been dealing with the absolutely awful office staff. Why do I say awful? For the following: I've been calling them since September about re-taking a class and they told me not to worry because they'd get back to me when an opening came up. I trusted them on that and they never took time to reach out to me. I was worried on whether they had forgotten about me so I would try to call once a month and would be reassured on whether they had an opening. Come January I called again and had to go through the whole process of reminding them of who I am and my interest in retaking the course. The speaker, who seemed confused in her explanations, immediately recited their policy about how I should've taken another class within the 2015 timeframe ( three months) and that I would not be getting another chance or my money back (I just wanted another chance.) The office made no attempt to understand my issue, but was really quick to point out that was done is done and I'm the loser in this situation. This just makes no sense to me. A policy in which you can only re-take a class within a calendar year would mean anyone taking a class in December has no chance of getting their money back if they fail while someone in January has a huge amount of days. How can you even justify paying the same amount for a class in those two time periods if there are such different benefits connected? In addition, my calls would always be answered with a "we'll get back to you at such and such date" and then I'd rarely receive said call. This leads me to believe that there just wasn't an attempt by Trama's to ever get me another class; especially since the original class I took wasn't even full. Overall, I HATE HATE HATE dealing with this place. It has the WORST customer service I've ever dealt with in my LIFE. I'm just about give up and eat what I paid just so I don't have to get the run-around from them again. The office is slow to call you back, but quick to make you know they aren't paying you back. If you want to actually learn how to ride a motorcycle; save yourself some time and avoid Trama. ****** After talking to them some more to fix my situation; they started lying by saying I was given multiple chances to retake and refused. I get this is a huge review and all, but I can't emphasize enough how bad this experience has been for me.

Everything is straightforward. For the practical course, it was one of the hottest weeks this past summer; imagine having to wear long sleeves, jeans, boots, gloves, and a helmet in 90F weather! Eric and rider coach JP made sure to keep everyone hydrated with frequent breaks and supplied water. Riding a motorcycle is a lot easier than I thought but it still took a lot of practice for the manoeuvres on which we were tested. Both Eric and JP don't mind spending extra time with students that need a little more help before the course or during breaks, which is really useful. They are really attentive to making sure nobody gets injured and try to do their best to teach you as best as they can so that you pass; if you don't pass the first time, you are welcome to come back for a retest.

When we called the company, they agreed but couldn't explain why the instructor had not mentioned this to either the student or the person paying for the lessons. I was basically told that it was the student's fault and that she should have known she was not ready. Ummm, aren't you the professionals who should be giving feedback on what you're seeing? I just completed my MSF Basic Rider at Big Apple Motorcycle School. While it is fresh in my head,…read moreI'd like to share a few thoughts that may help you decide if Big Apple is for you. Overall, it was a decent experience, with good solid foundational knowledge that is important for any new rider such as myself. I assume the coursework is standardized and the curriculum cannot be deviated from as set forth from the motorcycle safety foundation. We had four instructors over two days. It was led by Felice, with her was an amazing guy named John, a trainee named Constantine, and Diane the owner showed up for the second day. Diane and John could not have been nicer, Constantine didn't interact much, and he demonstrated most of the skills. Felice has a strong personality. She is the type of instructor I respond well to--tough, honest, direct and loud, however, it is not everyone's taste and I could sense the frustration others had with her. As someone who deals with many adult learners professionally, I think there is opportunity for the school to continue their own education, specifically on how to address different learner types. Something as simple as her explaining how serious she takes this and apologizing in advance for her "intensity" would go a long way with many students. A couple of other areas of feedback, so whoever is reading this can better prepare themselves-- 1. Bring food and snacks on your person, the breaks are five minutes at most and you are not given enough time to let's say use the restroom and take a drink. 2. Be prepared for the schedule to change, and be early. We were scheduled to begin at 7:45am, and when a student showed up "on time" for day 2 even though the day before we were told we would be starting earlier, he was turned away and couldn't complete the course. People sometimes have obligations, and a last minute time change should be met with flexibility, in my opinion at least. 3. Bring a solid lunch with you, as someone not from the area, one hour between riding and classroom to find, eat lunch, and be on time to the class or riding is not enough time. I'd strongly recommend that big apple provide water, snacks etc. and possibly a catered lunch for attendees. I don't think that's too much to ask with a $400 price tag when the competition is more affordable, and big apple likes to run the schedule like the military. Especially when you have long hot days in full gear, 10-12 motorcycles and zero shade on the beach. I chose to drive to big apple vs the closer competition in the city because many of the motorcycle dealers I visited recommended them. Would I choose them again? Maybe-- but only because I know they take riding seriously. Would I recommend them? Probably not. There are many things they can be doing to enhance the basic mandated curriculum, easy things as simple as creating a forum for students to connect after "graduating", as I sit here thinking how cool it would be to keep in touch with my classmates, when all I wanted to do was get the hell out of the heat after the class was over LOL. Overall it met the objective. I just don't know how well I'd recommend them in the future.
