We started smelling burning plastic, resembling a hot glue gun, in our kitchen (and den next to the kitchen) and it had been going on for a week, on and off, with each day becoming more frequent and/or lasting longer. We called the fire department and after doing a visual check, they couldn't find anything and recommended having an electrician come by. I found Adalberto on Yelp and Google. I called and explained the situation to him. He came by the next morning at 8:00 a.m. and did an extremely thorough job checking all types of potential causes. He checked the subpanel, the main panel, all the outlets, the lights, the large appliances, went into the attic, and the crawl space. He was very patient, listened to my concerns and asked questions to come up with ideas of what could be causing the smell. After 5 hours (!) we still couldn't find the source. He did however find that our main breaker wasn't working (we were pulling more amps than it was supposed to). I was getting anxious because the smell was getting more frequent and we still couldn't find the source. Adalberto calmly reassured me, told me to try turning off different circuits at night to isolate if it was a particular circuit, suggested to turn off any non-essential circuits for safety, and that we weren't able to confirm if the issue was even electrical. He said he would order a thermal camera and come back to see if it finds anything. If the thermal camera couldn't find anything, he suggested replacing the breakers in the subpanel to detect any arcs and as a longer term safety measure. A couple days later the thermal camera arrived and he came by immediately to use it and check. He found it was actually my husband's fish tank water heater. My husband had left it on and on top of something plastic and as it was getting cold, the heater turned on and burned the plastic. We really appreciate Adalberto's help in resolving this incident. He never tried to upsell any services and in fact tried to find creative ways to resolve the issue that were as cost effective as possible. read more

I'm so glad to have found Torres Electric Services LLC for our electrical projects. Not only did Beto respond in a timely manner to my estimate request via Yelp and to my text inquiries re: our projects, he is also personable and professional. The first job Beto did a couple of weeks ago at our home was actually several projects: replaced non-functioning indoor outlet; installed new outdoor light fixture, new light switch, new outdoor outlet for sprinkler timer; and new outlet in attic. Several of these items required that Beto install new wiring, and in a few spots where he had to cut through sheetrock to do so, he did a very clean patch-up job after he was done. While working on this multi-item project, Beto brought to my attention that our electrical breaker panel is Zinsco brand, which he said are known for causing fires. He said if we wanted to replace it he could do the work, and recommended that I look up the brand for more info. So, I did a Google search for Zinsco - sure enough, fire hazard! Needless to say, we had Beto replace the ancient panel (and also install a surge protector) the very next week. I highly recommend Torres Electric for any electrical projects. Adalberto from Torres Electric did great work at our house installing an ev charger, replacing some light fixtures and installing a couple of new outlets. The EV charger required a long cable run which he did in a discreet way. He advised us all along the way when we had decisions to make about where to put things. Also troubleshooted some outdoor lights and helped us plan for installing a TV mount over the fireplace. He charged a very fair price for all of this work. We will definitely call him again to help with our future electrical needs. Oh I forgot to mention he informed us that water was leaking into our electrical box from the roof.
