We have a female Mexican Palm tree, at one time a mere seedling, in our backyard garden that's all grown up now (and still growing) -- not to mention a guaranteed anchor to prevent our house from ever sliding down the hill behind us. A couple times a year we'd trim the dead or dying fronds and (once they'd begun to appear) the flowers and seedpods. The fronds finally outgrew our reach, from the top of an extension ladder, a couple years ago. We had no experience with tree trimmers, and asked a nearby neighbor with a similar but taller tree which company he used, as we'd previously HEARD the loud chainsaw and seen a crew trimming his tree. He gave us their contact info and noted that, coincidentally, they'd be out later that week for a weekend appointment. We attempted to contact them a few times, hoping perhaps they'd be able to trim our tree as well -- either while in the area or at another time. Not only did they never respond, but they failed to show without notice or explanation, for our neighbor's appointment. My wife decided to post a Craigslist ad and request bids/estimates for the job. She included photos, marking each item she wanted removed, and described in detail the limited access available. She requested that respondents indicate if they: were state-licensed, bonded, and insured; could do this job given the constraints; could accomplish it without using spikes (which damage and can kill a tree); and, would quote a total price. Within a few hours, she'd received a handful of responses. All but one seemed to indicate a failure to read or comprehend the post - ignoring or providing either unclear or incomplete answers to her questions. The only respondent who did answer all her questions, which happened to be to her satisfaction -- and quoting a surprisingly low fee -- was David from Torres Tree Service. We made an appointment, and were most pleased by David's no-nonsense professionalism and courtesy as well as the overall experience and competence. The trimmer used an extension ladder (a little taller than ours), non-spike climbing gear, and best of all -- a machete, QUIET and efficient. Before finishing, we were consulted as to the final appearance and whether any other changes were desired. The area was cleaned well and all the fronds were hauled away, with the entire job taking only around 30 minutes. We've since had them out again last year, and soon will be requesting their service again. The price is so low, and the work so excellent, that we always add a nice tip to appease the twinge of guilt we feel for seemingly being undercharged. This company is great and we highly recommend them -- as we did to our neighbor who had the tree trimming crew we're now HAPPY never responded to our calls. read more

Let me tell you something, I hate cutting ANY tree now a days with our environment being so dirty. But this mean tree had to go. The roots were growing and causing a hazard to the building, the branches were about to pop the neighbors electricity and ours. The fruits that fell from this tree, twice a year, would leave a nasty mark on all the cars that was almost impossible to wash off! and that is where I started my search for tree cutters: Once upon a time.................. just kidding here we go.................I mean I would give 6 stars if Yelp had that going on!. Excellent service from initial estimate, to the service agreement, to the work performance. We had a 75 foot mexican palm tree removed. There was a deck built around the tree. They left the deck in the same condition as before their work. They even did extra work using a hand pick to take the trunk below the deck line. Impressive. They removed a dead olive tree, avoiding damage to any of the other foliage around the tree. They shaped our sycamore tree. They are artisans and take pride in their work. We actually got three quotes for tree services. We picked this one because it was priced right and they were very professional. David Torres came out to give us a quote. He was very knowledgeable about the trees we were interested in cutting down (ornamental pear tree and 3 silver dollar eucalyptus trees). I asked and they provided proof of insurance and license. He was very responsive whether it was by email or on the phone. The pear tree had already come down by itself so that was easy to take care of. But the eucalyptus trees were tall and it took more effort to completely cut it to the ground. Because they were on a slope and there was not much room in our yard to take out the root system they had to cut it as close to the ground as possible and put poison in the root system. Eventually the tree will crack and die. These trees are out-of-control and always dropping annoying leaves. Last year during the winds, branches would keep falling off the trees. They took great care to cut the trees in sections and pull the trees by rope so that debris would not go into the neighbors' yard as much as possible. When a couple of the sprinklers were broken they replaced them for us. We had 5 guys working on our trees. They were quick and efficient. They came early and finished at least an hour less than Mr. Torres quotes. read more

The order of events went like this: On Wednesday, I called the number listed on this page, and immediately got scheduled for a consultation within two hours. David met me promptly at noon that day, and we went over the yard to the two trees that I needed removed. He definitely knew his stuff, and quoted me about half the price of anyone else over the phone... and these were HUGE Mexican palm trees that I had to remove before the fire department started fining me. At this point he scheduled me for the earliest time slot during the following week, and I left my gate open for the crew that day so they could do the cutting while I was away at work. I came back, and found that they did an excellent job, even filling in the hole with some nice mulch to make it look nice, and the area was left very clean. As for the fire department, he was able to immediately send me a note of intent that I forwarded to the fire department, thus making sure that I was not going to get inspected before the day the tree would be cut. That alone saved me a lot of hassle. I recommend these guys to anyone looking for dependable, reasonably priced tree cutting service in the Orange County area. For me, it wasn't just the lightning-fast response for estimates and friendly and professional consultation, but the quality and efficiency of their work at an estimate below the competition. These guys are the real deal, and the best value I could have found. When the unrelenting sprawl of the English ivy on the side of yard overtook two trees and collapsed my fence, it was time to take to the chainsaw. This was a job I never could have done myself given the extensive growth of the ivy (the ivy had become a tree itself!) and its entanglement in everything on the north side of my house. David gave me an estimate about $200 less than the other consultation I got, and he seemed to have a better knowledge of what the job would involve. In two days, the job was complete, without a single stem of ivy, protruding tree trunk, or rotting fence anywhere in sight. Lousy Customer Service and Appointment Setting !! They need to definitely work on their customer service/ appointment setting over there, first they cancelled my 9:30 am appointment this morning 06/13 with only a one hour notice and then called me to re-schedule at 12 noon the same day and stood me up, no call or anything ! I had to re-schedule my day for them and they blew me off without so mucas a courtesy phone call, now that's what I call lousy service !! We have a very large Ash tree in our front yard that unfortunately crows have decided is the best hangout in the neighborhood. Every evening and morning we are greeted by their terrible screeching and cawing, in addition to the copious amounts of poop that they would leave all over the sidewalk, walkway and best of all, our cars. Contractors can be pretty hit-or-miss. I recently wanted to remove a 50 foot palm tree from my backyard so I knew that I needed to get someone to do that for me. Of the handful of contractors that I contacted, Torres stood out because: -They actually called me back -They came out to check it out very promptly (either the same day or the next day, I don't remember) -They followed up (and then some) After getting multiple quotes, I scheduled them to come out. They came, they cut the tree down, and it was gone. The scheduled time was 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM, but they were already gone by the time that I got home at 3:30 PM. On the one hand it's good that they're fast. On the other hand, I'm not even sure that they really exist since I've never met them! While I am giving them 5 stars, there are still some cons to their service. Since they're so popular, I had to book my appointment about 3 weeks in advance. Although they might have been more accommodating if I had insisted, it was still a bummer that I had to wait that long to get it finished. I used several tree service companies in the past. Torres Tree Service is definitely the top one on my list. They are very professional, knowledgeable and efficient. I recently have them removed / trimmed 22 trees, stumps and plants. They came a day early to mark all the power line, pipelines and sprinklers. And on the actual day, they were on time (7:30 AM). They sent 10-12 staff to do the job. Everyone stayed focus and worked very hard. No one sitting or standing there doing nothing, or chitchatting some nonsense. They didn't even spend much time on their lunch break. They removed 4 of my sky-high Mexican Palms at ease. I was amazed how their staff can climb so high and chop the palms down one section at a time. It requires professional skills and tons of courage. Although a couple sprinkler's heads got smashed, Mr. Torres repaired the sprinklers before he left. I totally understand some damages might occur because when the trunks or branches fell from the above, they can't control where they will landed 100%. And I appreciate Torres Tree Service went the extra mile and paying a handyman to repair the concrete edges of my flower bed and driveway. That is a true 5-star service. After getting several bids for my over 30 foot tall star pine I went with Torres Tree Service. It was super easy to schedule someone to come out (I did it on their website.) I really liked that he went over the steps and process for the removal. They not only would chop it down and grind down the stump, but go after and grind the big roots. I received a copy of the contract that night and scheduled my date. The men arrived on time and got right to work. They are very fast and professional, this is a well oiled machine. I needed a tree trimmed and brush cleared from the side yards. I had been quoted ridiculous prices from other businesses who had left their cards at my door. My family and I decided to trim the trees in front of our house ourselves. It was definitely harder than we thought it would be so mad props to all tree services! Anyways, after the war with our 4 trees, we were left with a front yard completely filled with tree debris that needed to go away. We called everyone we knew. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Torres Tree Service! I found David torres through Yelp (thank you!) after the last guy I used hacked his way through my property... David came over for the quote, immediately recognized the damage, understood what I was looking for (a "lacy" look in the canopy of the trees), and returned a bid that was HALF of what I had been charged in the past. I was absolutely thrilled and scheduled the work to begin as soon as the crew was available. Fast forward a few weeks, and this team of about 7 men descended on my property on time, fully equipped, and looking like true professionals. You could tell one guy really led the others... and as it turns out, he used to work landscaping at Disney!!! It wasn't surprising, because the quality and attention to detail was exactly consistent with what you find in the park. They cut back and thinned over 13 trees on my property beautifully (including a large magnolia, multiple ficuses) and left everything cleaner when they left than it was before they arrived. I couldn't have been happier. My only advice is to book early with these guys!! They're great and typically pretty busy... for good reason. read more

Contacted Torres and two other companies to remove the trees from my yard. After all I selected Torres due to David's professionalism when he came out and answered all the questions/request I have. The PDF invoice and on time response are also big plus. The quote was also competitive enough and fair. 5 star for this. Then, the Torres Tree Service crew come in today and remove a queen palm and bunch of ficus trees from my yard. The supposed full day work finished in half day, but the work was not very thorough. I had to check and remind to make sure things are done properly. After they left, I also discovered a pipe was broken and some of the roots are not grind very well. I had to contact David to have the crew come back out again to fix. Gladly, the crew came back and fixed the issues i had. For this part, since I had to look very carefully on the work, it just deserves a 2 or 3 stars. The cleaning job isn't as great and detail as my regular gardener but I guess it's OK since it is really not their specialty. Overall, I would give this a 3.5 if Yelp allowed it. But I rounded it up and gave it a 4 star service. read more

They are a very professional service. They came out to give a quote almost immediately and the quote was very reasonable compared to other quotes I had received. They honored the Yelp discount without a problem. I also do checks on who I hired and their license and insurance was in order and up to date. They had the paperwork with them, but I always do my own checks just to be sure. On the day of my service I was kept informed by the foreman and asked for my approval and input as the job progressed. Bottom Line: David Torres has low prices but poor customer service (multiple no shows), overdid one of my trees (stripped), left debris (leaves, branches, foam coffee cup), trampled my ground cover and busted off my brass impact sprinkler tied to a rebar stake (crew left w/o telling me, so I had a geyser running for a day). Torres no showed on 2 appt's for a quote and on the actual service day (I took time off from work). After their service no show, I could not reach them (phone or email) and they did not reach out to me. I wrote them off, so I began a search for a new service. Then a week later, out of the blue, I receive an email (stamped 430AM) saying my service is scheduled for 1230PM today. This time I was not gonna fooled, so I called the phone number in the email and he confirmed the 1230PM service. I went to work and returned at 1200. They began work at 130PM, but later in the day, foreman surprises me that job will take 2 days, I tell him I cannot skip another day of work. Against my better judgment I let them work FRI w/o my presence (and I tipped them in advance, regret that). They left debris, trampled my ground cover, stripped my eucalyptus tree and busted my sprinkler. 1st time I used them I was happy, this time I felt taken advantage of. read more

We called Torres Tree Service after another service's crew (Freddy's Tree Service) failed to show. They send an employee to see our trees and give us an estimate and it was clear from the beginning that they are professional and knowledgeable. After the estimate we got an e-mail with the trimming date and an invoice. The price was in the same range as the estimate we have gotten earlier from another company. The crew showed up exactly when they said they would, had all of the equipment they needed and chopped our two overgrown trees down, removed the roots. They cleaned after themselves, walked me through the whole process and several times confirmed that we were happy. They even offered to clean up at the neighbor's yard, if any branches fell there. I never leave reviews but I couldn't pass up on the opportunity to praise a company that very simply delivers on every promise they make. I am a General Contractor and I bought a house a few weeks ago with a large unkempt lot. There was over growth every where you looked. Trees had to be removed (including stumps), large hedges and bushes. My yard was definitely an all day affair. I met with David, the youngest son of the Torres family. He was extremely professional and courteous. We walked through the property and I explained to him what I wanted and also left him with the understanding that when it came to tree trimming, I would trust his expertise in how much to cut. This was the firs time that I experienced knowing what I wanted the outcome of my tree trimming to look like but did not have the words to explain it and so I had to put my trust in David that they wouldn't butcher my trees. I received a line item quote the following day and called David to schedule his services. His crew (and I really mean crew because 9 guys showed up) showed up exactly on time at 7:00 a.m. looking like they were ready for battle. They had this huge stump grinding machine on a trailer, a wood chipping/shredding machine, and another huge truck for all of the debris. All of the crew members wore the Torres Tree Service shirts and looked professional. From 7:00 am until 5:00pm, these men worked their tail off. Even my wife was amazed at how hard these guys work. I was looking for a landscaping service to do some work at my townhouse. I had inherited quite a bit of overgrown plants and trees, and after doing most of the removal and cleanup myself, I got to the point where I needed some professional help to remove 2 stumps and also prune a Ficus tree that had grown out of control. I read through some of the reviews here and decided to give Torres Tree Service a try. David was very prompt when he stopped by to give me an estimate. I was impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. The Torres team that came by to perform the work were top notch. They came to my place while I was at work, did the entire job, cleaned up, and were gone before I even came home. I was very impressed with the quality of work, how quick they were in doing it, and how reasonable the price was. They write checks that their ass can't cash, or at least the lady who handles the front-line communication. Called and emailed them to obtain a quote and no response because my husband had left a 3-star review half a year ago. They told me to have my husband remove the review before they'd send me a quote. I had him remove it because I wanted to give Torres another chance. Informed the scheduling lady about that but no response. My husband was disappointed so he re-posted the review 5 days later. I was told again that Torres would not send me the quote unless the post was removed again. Fine. This time I was even promised a date when i'd receive it. Had my husband remove the review again and sent Torres proof, asked for the quote on the promised date. Never responded. If you do care about your reviews, do what you have promised. read more

I just want to say that I would call Torres Tree Service again without a 2nd thought! they came back and repaired our landscaping lights that I'm not even sure they broke in the first place.
