I've been a Torrid customer for about a year now and although their clothes can be a little pricey, if you keep an eye out for the sales, you can get some good deals. Every time that I've visited Torrid I have been greeted and checked up on. This particular visit they opened early for a special sale and each of the ladies working was extremely friendly, despite it being super early. One of the girls took a few extra minutes to talk with me about the outfit that I was trying to put together & gave me a few ideas. I ultimately ended up stepping outside of my comfort zone a little bit I've already worn the outfit, so she was definitely right! It would be great if they did a legitimate VIP only event with some special giveaways or something. Was on a hunt for leggings with lace trim for this weekend and Torrid saved the day! I called on Tuesday to see if they had any in stock. They told me they would hold them for me until Thursday. When I got there Thursday, turns up this was the one and only pair!! Hooray! Everyone at the store was super helpful and very upbeat! Not crazy about how the clothes here fit. While they are for fuller curvy woman they are not for every fuller curvy woman. Great clothes for busty curvy women. I usually shop online and then return in the store if something rarely doesn't fit correctly. Other shoppers are awesome about posting reviews with photos and sizes that they buy with their height and weight so it's easy to guess what size to choose. The ladies in the store are nice and when calling to order via phone they have been great too. My only complaint is they are out of sizes that I need because they are popular and I wish online they would show all the colors in the same style rather than having to look everything up individually. read more

Not everyone is small so in steps Torrid! I was shopping for a gal that had a certain style in mind. Somewhat rockabilly and funk. I found Torrid and that's all I needed. Great store! Helpful staff! And a wonderful clearance section in the back! Oh and the accessories were an absolute delight. I couldn't figure out what would look right on her size so Anne helped me by holding up certain items and giving me her opinion. She was a doll! This store is fabulous! To be honest, the only reason why I've been here as often as I have is because I'm cheap; I order online and have my stuff shipped for free to the store. But now that I've finally reached Platinum status, I won't be visiting much anymore. Most of the times I've been here, though, I've had issues with the associates. One of them comes off as standoffish and I feel as though I'm interrupting her while she's in the middle of something, even when she's you know, not. Then there's this other employee. I think she may be a manager or supervisor. She's also been inattentive and spacy when I've gone in to pick up my online order. I literally only go there to pick up what was delivered and I've experienced sub par customer service. That's all of 10 minutes, at most, I spend in the store. Too many times this shit is torn, stained or missing some belt or other piece that you notice when you go to browse the website months later. Beware. 2. DO YOUR RETURNS SOMEWHERE ELSE. I got banned from here for an argument over a return where I had only tried a bra on and still had the tag but it wasn't "attatched" so they wanted to give me store credit. Beware. 3. SKINNY SALES GIRLS. Just sayin, if it's triggering for you. Beware. 4. DON'T BUY BRAS HERE. Go to Lane Bryant. These Torrid ones do not last and they cost the same as the ones over there. Beware. All in all this is a run of the mill Torrid with basically one token fatty of every color out of the style rainbow. The layering bohemian, the urban chic, the rockabilly pinup etc. If you don't have a good idea of your own personal style, I would at least pay attention to the person dressing you if you're asking for help. I hate being in between sizes. You know, being on the curvy upper end size of regular women shops and being on the small end in plus size shops. I specifically went shopping for a maxi dress that would look classy and tasteful for an upcoming get together. I was disappointed by 5 other stores before entering this one, which I never have stepped foot in until yesterday. Well, lo and behold...I found the dress here. Thank my lucky stars. It was perfect. Maxi dress. Check. Short sleeves. Check. Vertical or chevron lines. Check. Good enough to be worn casual or classy. Check! The thing about shopping at plus size stores, is sometimes I feel that a portion of the clothing is actually unflattering for full figured women. Come on, horizontal lines? Tons of sleeveless tops? Really? That's another story. The customer service is not on par here. At least I got a "Welcome" when I entered in but after a few minutes of browsing, I thought that a customer service rep would ask if I needed help with anything. I got none of that. I brought in 2 sizes of the maxi dress to try.I couldn't make up my mind. They both fit well, one more form hugging than the other and wanted an opinion from a rep. I was able to flag one down and after seeing both sizes on me, she couldn't even articulate a preference which was annoying and useless coming from a rep who represents a full figured store. I should have brought a friend with me. I chose the smaller size. Their size 0. I wait in line and by the time I head to the cash register, the taller rep asked the shorter rep if I was "helped" and I hear the shorter rep say she helped me and made some other lame comment about the dressing room. I rolled my eyes because this rep was useless but hey, if this store goes by who gets credit...whatever. So this store currently has a buy 1 get 1 50% off deal right now and if you spend $50, you get $25 back for you to use on a different day (told to me after I paid). I'm cool with that. The stupid rep saw that my total was $90 and some change and didn't bother to upsell me anything to make it a $100 so I could've taken advantage of $50 instead of $25. Its pretty minute now but if I were to shop at other comparable competitors, this would not have happened. Just saying. At least I got what I came for but the vibe that I got from the main person who so called helped me and the other woman who worked at the store is that they really, really love their job. *Note the sarcasm* read more

I ordered over $300 online. Big mistake. You can't return certain transactions to the store so I shipped it back. They warn you it can take up to 4 weeks for receipt. It took every minute of 4 weeks to acknowledge receipt of the merchandise. Now the return. I've been waiting a total of 2 months for this whole return process to be complete. Still no refund after numerous emails and phone calls. What a joke. read more

I have been brought up in a torrid loving home since I was super small. My mom bought from them when I was little and they were online. I went to the promotion at the mall for their clearance and early admission to the mall and it was awesome the ladies I went in to the store with were so kind so I was super excited. I budget when it comes to any purchase so like this one I had an expectation of how much I could spend: I'm sure torrid gets this all the time and I doubt another review will do much but the fact you can't use the haute cash you earned on clearance is rather ridiculous because it makes me not wanna spend my money in bulk to earn them to begin with. At this store I worked with Rachel for my try on needs and it was wonderful she was on point and worked so hard not just for me but for ALL the ladies in there trying to try on clothing. I can't express how wonderful she was enough! Then I went up to the cash register, I think her name was Debbie(The Manager working on 1/13/19 in the morning) she wasn't great. She acted like she couldn't be bothered with me and kept trying to pawn my transaction onto other employees which kinda makes you feel like a nuisance which when I'm about to spend 400$ I would hope that wouldn't even have to cross my mind. But thankfully she finally got her way and made another gal finish my transaction, her name was Sabrina and she saved the transaction she was sweet and kind and I appreciated Sabrina and Rachel for being wonderful even when they don't seem to have the support they deserve from their management. Her customer service is really really what brings me back to this store, the prices are of course pricey, but the styles are very IN THE NOW especially for plus size women. I'm very pleased that every time I go into this store, I am greeted and asked what it is that I am looking for, and for some reason they ALWAYS find what I'm looking for, and it seems to be in the clearance section too! and when I do find what I want, the clearance is on a 'additional 50% off'! wooohooo score! I shopped the San Diego Torrid when it first opened in 2001, the year Torrid began. Then they opened one near me in Northridge when I lived in The Valley. When it first opened, it was just like Hot Topic, their parent company. In other words, it was punk, goth and alternative fashion for the plus size girl. There was just no other store like it at the time. I was dropping close to $300 there every month for a couple of years, as I was a successful plus size model and wore many of their clothes in my business and private life. It was SO edgy and cool way back then. Out of nowhere I walk in there one day, and the clothes had gone mainstream! I was SO disappointed. I loved all the salesgirls, and asked them what happened. They said corporate found out most girls wanted it more mainstream. Didn't that make them more like Lane Bryant then?? Anyway, I stopped shopping there several years ago. I have been going back recently, and they seem to have added more of an edge to their clothing, but it's still not like it was. But I found a ROCKIN' pair of jeans there last month! I've never had a pair fit me like that. And I also bought a cute tankini top for the beach. Sales girls were helpful as always and it's a great shopping experience. I am a 35 year old woman who lives in San Diego, CA. I have been a customer with Torrid for over 10 years. I have for the most part had pretty good experiences with Torrid. 2 days ago I ordered online $150.00 and was excited to use my haute cash for $75 OFF. I like most customers look forward to haute cash time. I received my order today & to my dissapointment was not happy how anything I bought fit me. I wasn't upset though because I figured I would just go into the store & exchange my purchase. An hour after opening my package around 6pm decided to drive the 10 minutes to my local store in mission Valley. (640 Camino Del Rio N Ste 166, San Diego, CA 92108) I frequently shop at this store because it is so close to me. The customer service there is sub par but I have never experienced anything like I did tonight. From the time i had walked in the store telling the employees that I had an exchange, they were nothing but rude & unpleasant. I took my time shopping around the store, trying things on. I did have occasional questions but for the most part I am a pretty self sufficient customer. I asked an employee for helping finding my size bra 42B, because after looking myself I could not find any in my size. The employee took at least 10 minutes to come help and when she did, she went through 1 drawer for a second before saying "I'm sorry but that size is not popular so we don't carry a lot of them." wow, ok......that made me feel like shit. Isn't Torrid supposed to embrace all sizes? Anyways I continued shopping & tried to not let it bother me. Anytime I would ask a question all 3 girls that were working would act annoyed. They were too busy talking amongst themselves to have any interaction with the customers. I tried making conversation & asking their advice but I got nothing. I'm finally ready to check out after being in the store for nearly 2 hours and I go to make my exchange & the "manager" Jennifer who helped me was even more rude. I was exchanging my $150 worth of items for $150 worth of items. FIRST she tried to offer merchandise credit even though I had my receipt & said I could use the in store promotions, but then I said "well won't I lose my haute cash?" she proceeded to price change my purchases according to what she believed to be correct. I did not understand hawse was doing my exchange & when I said, " I'm sorry I don't understand" she talked to me like I was stupid. Her exact words were, "so you don't understand that you bought more expensive items so the price is higher?" By that point I was done! I just wanted to exchange my items for an even exchange. I had spent all that time in the store picking things that would total the exact amount I bought & somehow I ended up paying $36 more because she didn't know what she was doing. I left the store in tears. I have never in my life had a worst experience shopping. I usually leave the store on a high from excitement & today was a nightmare. I just want you to know that the people you have working in that store are nice, not friendly, not helpful & lack even the basic knowledge of customer service. This one star is for the 'management'/'supervisors' at this store. The other associates are always very sweet, they know what they're doing and I've never had an issue with them. The first incident I've had was with Roselinda few months ago. Like many people here, my issue started when i needed to exchange something I bought online. I had a dress i wanted to exchange, looked around the store first, found a dress i fell in love with, went up to make the exchange. She was rude from the start, before she even knew what i needed, I said i wanted to exchange this dress for this other one, holding both up. She takes the one dress i wanted to exchange and was working on the register, then a receipt prints out, I was confused because she didn't even take the dress i wanted. She then rings up the dress i wanted and said that I owed $60. I told her that wasn't right and I wanted to exchange. She said she refunded the other dress and that I need to specifically say the word 'exchange'. I absolutely did say the word exchange, I also made gestures, i don't know what else I could've done to make it more clear. Left the store upset that day, emailed the company and got the run around for a good 3 weeks before I gave up. I was told several times I would be contacted by the district manager and that never happened. The second incident was with Deborah today. I had two returns. She sighed multiple times and made it clear she was very bothered, even though the store just opened and no one was in there. She also said one item was a final sale. It didn't say that anywhere on the website, i even went to the website after i left and it still was nowhere on the site. I took screenshots to send in an email to the company but with my experience with them before, its not even worth the effort. That's not her fault but the way she was communicating, was. I don't know if they're conditioned to despise people who have to return things or not, or if they both have constant attitudes naturally. But these two ladies should rethink working for a company where half of their entire stock is "online exclusive". Returns/exchanges happen. But I'm really over these two and I won't be returning to this particular store and I hope Torrid starts looking into all these complaints eventually before Mission Valley has another closed store. read more

Wow... some of the revies are pretty ummm.. well I wont judge them! :) When I first walked into this store I was INSTANTLY IN LOVE!! Because I'm a girl of many desires w/ clothing and growing up as a "thick in the hips" kinda girl, I was limited to everything. I wore boy clothes half the time or I just wore "comfy" clothes, or my sports stuff to school. But when I hit my adolescent years and found Torrid I instantly fell in love! Although the prices were STEEP for a college kids budget, I still managed to get a few things here and there. The Torrid in Mission Valley is my favorite one in San Diego. There are 3 and this one is ALWAYS myf av. The employees here are great and the newest additon Darryl or Derrick or something... he is a flamboyant ball of fire!!! I LOVE him!!! But the employees there are sweet and always help out! Hands down favorite thing about TORRID are their BOOTS!!! I just bought 2 pairs and I got some BIG CALVES and HUGE FEET, and this year I got my 2nd & 3rd pair from there!! and they aer AMAZING!!! okie dokie... Love this Torrid location! The staff is super friendly & professional every time I come in, even when I have my small children with me. Their clearance racks are always full of great stuff. Or even if you want to splurge, their reg. priced stuff is to die for. Any woman (or girl) who wears an XL or larger should check this place out. It's plus size clothes for girls & women who don't want to look like granny just cause they're a size 20. No matter what size you are you'll look great in these awesome clothes. Oh, & the shoes, the jewelry, the lingerie, the pj's, the bathing suits & the boots in the fall are all super awesome! They have boots for the fall season that are made for girls with. This is an extremely overdue post but here we go. This place is a mess and a scam! Maybe this is just all Torrids but the customer service here is horrendous as well as the clothes. I've gone here for years now and it is extremely overpriced but there aren't a lot of tall plus size options in San Diego. My most recent purchases are what is giving this store one star. The was a woman working there that was somewhat inappropriate in her interactions with me. She kept talking about how she has a friend who is extremely beautiful and "not like us" and how she didn't need to wear makeup "unlike us" wtf???? Ummm that was extremely strange. So she was basically saying I was ugly and needed makeup.... thankkkkkssss lol so strange. Anyways I try to avoid her when I go there. The next visit I went to get shoes from the clearance section and I found one shoe but it was the perfect fit but I couldn't find the other shoe so I asked for help looking for the other shoe. One of the women there found the other shoe and then rang me up. I get home and put them on and then notice they are two different sizes! So I called and said I know there are no refunds but I was told these were the same size by one of the ladies there and that is there any way I can come in a get help looking for the right size or get an exchange. The woman on the phone said that was fine. That weekend I go in to exchange them or look for the other shoe and this VERY rude older lady said she remembered those shoes and that an online customer returned them because they were different sizes. Wtf??? So you knew they were different sizes but did not say anything? Strange. So she says well the most I can give you back is $4. Ummmmmm wtf??? And then she told me she was doing me a favor. Like those were her exact words. I wish I knew this woman's name because each time I go in she is sooooo rude!!! The clothing here is very cheap yet they charge so much for it. The leggings rip after about 2 or 3 wears. Trust me I've bought countless pairs. Ugh The exercise pants rip as well. I spent $52 on some exercise pants and they ripped after 3 uses. I came in specifically looking for the Roxanne style of jeans, which just so happened to be discontinued (1 star for that Torrid)! However, I was greeted at the door by Kaylee who promptely asked me if I needed help. I explained my jean need, what I normally where and what I was looking for in a fit. She loaded up the dressing room with her recommendations. I could not believe it. I found different styles that I actually like and that fit me the way I want them too. Called and emailed. At this point I have called 7 times and have spoken to two supervisors who promise to fix it. It's a joke.

Let's talk about Mandy. Her and Staff are so kind. The staff is very diverse. Going into the store you instantly get a positive vibe. The first thing you will notice by going there is you will see someone young or older who works at torrid wearing Torrid's clothing. It's someone you can relate to no matter what you identify as. As a trans woman it's so wonderful to see other trans shopping there without feeling uncomfortable like some torrid store. The people who shop there range from old to young, and all nationalities. Another thing I enjoy is the honestly. The staff gets to know the customers so they know if it's something you will actually wear or something you would return. When you return items they usually are so kind. It's never an attitude. Once I had tons of receipts Mandy literally took the time when the store was slower to go through the receipts to help me keep my affairs in order. A few times I've even helped while the store was understaffed and the staff here has went without taking a long lunch to help everyone first. One thing about this store everyone is treated fairly and they follow the torrid guidelines like no other. Which is something I totally appreciate. It leaves no room for Any confusion. The only drawback is this location doesn't get the same items as other store and sometimes they don't have certain items which I feel is unfortunate because there foot traffic is always busy. Especially on the weekends. The women at this location actually wear Torrid's clothing. It's an advantage to see store workers wearing the items from torrid with different body sizes. If you're tall, short, apple shape, curvy, etc.. it's someone you can identify with. Another thing about this location is they will go in boxes and actually look for an item. They make sure the store is clean.During covid they made sure they kept the dressing rooms clean. After every transaction they wiped everything down. It makes me want to travel to come to this location. I appreciate managers like Mandy who hire based on people who work well together and not just like. She's a totally honest person and I've hear her ask someone what's there pronouns and every time they come back she doesn't forget to address them by it. I'm really into fashion, it's my life, I can come off abrasive to store clerks as I dont like help or value their opinion(I know what I like) . Nor have I found anywhere in years that has had anyone that has understood, been kind, and responsive enough to make me comfortable enough to allow help. I recently have had all sort of body insecurities and wasnt dressing like myself, also dropping weight at a rapid pace. Walking into Torrid I was insecure, tired, hopeless, and sad.
