This is a tale of two experiences…read more The first time we dined here was on a relatively slow Thursday night. We ordered the Carne Asada Pasilla. Basically, steak and cheese enchilada with rice and beans. We ordered Margaritas as well. We got water right away; our drinks came fast and were good. The food was not only timely and fresh...the steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection...the cheese enchilada was excellent...even the rice and the grilled pepper were exceptionally good. The waiter was attentive and asked if we wanted another drink before the glass was empty. He filled our water glasses when they were low. It was a very good experience. Our next visit a little over a week later on a Friday night was something we were anticipating. We got reservations to sit outside and Ubered so we could both enjoy drinks and the experience. When we were seated, the waitress came by and took our drink order. We got our pitcher of margaritas (which had barely any tequila and full to the top with ice) before someone came by and dropped off a pitcher of water. We had to poor both ourselves. The chips and salsa came after our drinks and our appetizer came 2 minutes before the dinner. We both enjoyed the Carne Asada so much, we ordered it again. When the plates arrived, it looked like they had been sitting under the warmer for 15 minutes. The steak was so far over well done that there was no more moisture in the meat. They were essentially hocky pucks and you could tell just from looking at them. The enchiladas sauce had dried up and tasted like what you would expect after sitting under the warmer for an extended period. It took at least 5 minutes for the waitress to check on us after the food was delivered. When I told her the steak was overcooked, her response was "That is how we prepare it here." When I asked if dry and overcooked is really the standard, she offered to get a manager. The manager at least apologized and offered to get me a new steak. What she came back with was even more embarrassing than the first. This steak was unseasoned, still overcooked and had "F-you" written all over it. It looked like it had been cooked in a microwave oven. I wouldn't doubt there was spit on it. She then came back and told us she's not charging us for the Carne Asada plates. We didn't see our waitress again until she brought us the check. It is such a shame that we had such a good first experience followed by something so bad, that a return visit would be unthinkable. It's one thing to have inconsistent food or service...it is another to be inconsistent with both food and service. If you're looking for Mexican food...I would recommend you go elsewhere.

I am having trouble trying to find one single word that can properly describe Tortas Chano...so I will use two. $@!*$ AMAZING!! So I have been ordering from TC for about 5 years now; since before they were called Tortas Chano. They have faithfully delivered to my place of work that whole time, and long before i got there. In 5 years I have tried MANY of the menu items. I have never had a bad experience. This time i decided to try the Tortas. The place is called TORTAS Chano after all. :) I ordered the carnitas torta, and a bean tostada. Truth be told; I only ordered the tostada in case the torta turned out to be a dud. LMAO Silly me. I should have known better. The tostada was fine. Just a plain ole bean tostada. It tastes more yummy with a drizzle of the sauce they send with your order. You can tell the beans were seasoned, unlike many of the "..berto's" out there. THE TORTA. Ohh boyyyy. So I went to culinary school years ago. There is a saying in the culinary world; Color equals flavor. The roll of this torta was masterfully griddled..it was not burnt...but had a sear on the inside similar in flavor of the outside of a seared steak. SOOO flavorful...with just the slightest crispness. It was also slightly toasted on the outside. The carnitas at Tortas Chano are beyond any that i have EVER had. EVER. They are perfect carnitas...super tender, super juicy, but at the same time, little bits and pieces have a little of that crispy sear on them. FREAKING amazing. And the torta had plenty of meat on it. No skimping. The rest of the ingredients were just as good: some cheese..some guac...and their pico. (Reviewer note: i do not like pico. Tortas Chano is the only pico i can eat) I dont remember if there was anything else in there...like a little lettuce perhaps? Maybe not....I really didnt pay too much attention, as i wolfed the sandwich pretty quick, due to my disbelief of how DELICIOUS it was. Well, I have certainly found my go-to favorite from TC now. My wife an I will be coming by in the next few days. She loves carnitas, and her head will explode when she tries this one. And so will yours. read more

UNION HILLS AND 7th AVE LOCATION!! I went to Roberto's 3 or 4 of times, the food is pretty good, nothing amazing though. The staff isn't too friendly. On my last visit, after I ordered and was waiting for my food, I noticed I never received a receipt and was over charged roughly $2.50 on my $10 order!!!! Thinking back, I realized I had never been given a receipt during any of my prior visits. I didn't even bother saying anything. I guess the tips I left in their tip jar just weren't enough. When I got home I went onto their website but no contact email was listed, I then tried calling their restaurant in Anthem a few times to possibly speak to a manager, no answer. Just had another amazing dinner from Tortas Chanos!! The Mexican pizza is unbelievably good!! But on top of that they have the best customer service!! We purchased a bottle of their hot salsa, which we put on EVERYTHING, but accidentally received a bottle of their mild salsa instead. I called in to make sure we could swing by and swap it out for the hot stuff tomorrow, and they INSISTED they would deliver a new bottle to our house right away!! We couldn't believe it!! The food on its own isn't what brings me back here--it's the staff and the owner's. They are accomodating, and nice...one can tell that they truly care about the customer here. It has a family feel to it. Great prices, and the portions are very large! From what I have eaten so far: Great: Horchata Fish burro Salsa Special bottled sodas Good: Carne asada burros Chorizo and egg burrito Quesodillas Not so much: Rice and beans are a bit bland for my taste. Absolutely love this place and love going but on the down side when you're craving it and stop by to get your fix you can easily be disappointed by not knowing if their open or closed. Even though the hours are listed they never follow hours of operation and are continually closed for unknown reasons. The food was disgusting and cold have you ever wanted a cold pumpkin spice enchilada well come here. Everything was cold, the service was fine. Everything was coved in nasty guacamole and the cheese had been melted in a microwave over chips.
