We have been 3x to Tortas Insurgentes (renamed Tacos La Revolution, but same restaurant) and each time the food is awesome - 100% authentic, and full of homemade flavor. There's a reason this place is holding down the fort at this spot, which is barely recognizable as a former1970s Taco Bell, under all the gorgeous renovations inside. We have had all manner of dishes here, but the tortas are amazing, and keep bringing us back. Toppings are impeccably fresh and delicious, especially the Al pastor and Milanesa. The sandwiches are big enough to take 1/2 home for lunch tomorrow. On our latest visit, I had the Torta dipped in chile - and I LOVED IT!! We seated ourselves shortly after coming in & our server quickly took our drink & food order. Be advised I believe this restaurant takes cash only so be prepared. I ordered the Alambres Insurgentes while my wife ordered a variety of tacos. Both of us ordered Horchata beverages which were refreshing & delicious. Our server was kind enough to get me both corn & flour tortillas to go with our meal. Once again, horrible experience at this place, couple weeks ago I was craving a torta cubana from this place so I decided to visit Tortas insurgentes just to find out that they have changed their business hours again, it was a Saturday or Sunday but now is open until 4pm, how ridiculous is that?? Today Monday I decided to give it an other try, big mistake. Before heading to this place I checked the business hours in yelp. They aré supposed to be open at 8:00 .I still want to double check in that so I try calling before coming in, no answer. It was 10:40 when I arrived to this place just to learn that now they open at 11:00. There was a lady cleaning the small outside patio, she confirmed that they will open at 11:00am. I went back to my car to wait until 11:00. At 11:00 there was 4 more people waiting to get in because the front door wasn't open yet. Finally someone unlocked the door but we couldn't get in because 2 employees were still cleaning and they looked very upset that we were there, we were told that the cooking equipment wasn't ready and the orders will take 20-30 min. Who is running this place??? Attention Manager or owner this is unacceptable!!! I don't know how this place had 4 stars before I went. I decided to give it a try because it had good reviews but boy was I disappointed. The torta was thin, had like 2 slices of tomatoes and one little chunk of avocado. It had almost no cheese on it. The bistec and chorizo seemed to just be cooked in salt and grease, and they didn't give me any cilantro, onions, or salsa. I literally have nothing positive to say other than it was ready fast. Food seemed to be cooked in grease and salt, I ordered a quesadilla and it had more lettuce than meat and cheese, oily tortilla and overall the experience was not pleasant. Service was late and the waitress took forever to get me some salsa, she actually didn't even get it to me I was done with my food and I sat there for a few minutes before she came up to me and asked if she could bring me my check, saddest part was that it wasn't even busy.. Really good food reminds me of Mexico City. Food is authentic as can be. The staff all work efficiently to get your food out to you. Not to mention is has a driven through option. The waitresses aren't very friendly and take a long time to even bring a menu over. This place is really good. I love a good street taco and this little spot did not disappoint. If you don't speak Spanish it can seem a little intimidating at first. My daughter in law found this place to have authentic Mexican food. I knew we were in the right place when out of four menus for our party only one was in English. Never mind tho we got tons of help from the super friendly staff. My son had tacos and the largest torts I have ever seen. I had alhambras and one al pastor taco and the girls had quesadillas. We ended with tres leches cake and the meal was large and filling. I looked around at this small place and we were the only gringos there but if I hadn't thought about it no one would have noticed. Great food, great service and helpful staff. A man who I assume to be the owner thanked us for the opportunity to serve us and made us feel most welcome at the restaurant. I love coming here , my favorite place to come I love the food the food is amazing BUT THE SERVICE , the service recently hasn't been so great to my family and I. I came in along with my family , as we usually come , we ordered our drinks and food. My niece ordered a quesadilla with chicken , when the food came , her food came with A HAIR on it, so i nicely told our waitress that if she could replace it that there was a hair in it , she rudely looked at me to see if it was my hair it was obviously not my hair , my hair is black and that hair color was light brown , she brought the food and rudely walked off. Later on I got a quesadilla with mushrooms and it was all burnt , I asked the waitress if it was normal and she AGAIN looked at me and said if we didn't like it they can make a whole new one for us so I nicely asked if they could , so she went ahead and took it away to the back. After that i could see the women talking and looking at me rudely with another one of her coworker, maybe they weren't talking about me but they did give off that vibe.
