We have been 3x to Tortas Insurgentes (renamed Tacos La Revolution, but same restaurant) and each time the food is awesome - 100% authentic, and full of homemade flavor. There's a reason this place is holding down the fort at this spot, which is barely recognizable as a former1970s Taco Bell, under all the gorgeous renovations inside. We have had all manner of dishes here, but the tortas are amazing, and keep bringing us back. Toppings are impeccably fresh and delicious, especially the Al pastor and Milanesa. The sandwiches are big enough to take 1/2 home for lunch tomorrow. On our latest visit, I had the Torta dipped in chile - and I LOVED IT!! The meat is carved straight from the trompo, a rotating spit, and you can taste the difference immediately. Each taco is generously packed so much that three tacos is more than enough to fill you up. They are served in a basket with soft, sweet, caramelized onions, a grilled pepper, lime, and the classic chopped onions and cilantro garnish. You also get a side of pinto beans. Pro tip: add onions, cilantro, and a little of the red hot sauce to the beans. So good. I paired everything with a large Agua Fresca. They offer three options and I went with the cucumber. It was so sweet and refreshing. The tacos themselves are outstanding. The meat is incredibly well seasoned and flavorful on its own.
