We were in the area on vacation and wanted to pick up some tortillas. This place makes their own and they are very delicious! We picked up a dozen and they were fresh and hot. We had to eat one immediately! They also have food that you can order and take to go. We tried to go back to pick up some homemade chips; however, they did not have any. They do make their own Chicharrones, and they looked good but we did not pick any up. Was slightly disappointed regarding their selection of hot sauces. The tortillas here are ahhhhhhmaaaaazzing! Upon ordering you'll be given bags of warm, soft tortillas. It's like a warm towel from the dryer right after a shower. Oh and the aroma...it just makes you open the bag for a taste. Both the corn and flour are truly special and well worth the drive from anywhere in the valley. I always purchased my tortillas here. I purchased a package today and when I was making burritos tonight the tortillas were old and broke apart as I was trying to use them. They were old and crumbling. Not happy with my purchase. Next time I will ask for fresh not old. read more

My family were passing through town and most of the Mexican restaurants were closed, so we found this place on Yelp and thought why not, when we arrived the employee's were all so welcoming and kind. Their food was AMAZING and so authentic. Haven't had a burrito like that in a long time. My family also tried their enchiladas which were rich and layered and their chile relleno which I still drool over. I am unapologetically a burrito snob. I grew up in San Francisco, the birthplace of the modern burrito, and they kept me alive through high school. The tortillas here are good. They're fresh - sometimes seconds old - and some of the sauces are tasty. But the meat is grisly and cheap. It's prepared well, but the quality of the meat is bad enough that it's not really salvageable and rather ruins the burrito. read more

Delicious authentic Mexican in the mountains of Colorado! Stopped here for a noon Saturday lunch on our way to Aspen. Place was empty except for the three gentleman working there. Between the three of us we had a Chicken Quesadilla, Carnitas Quesadilla and pork tacos. All tortillas are homemade in the back - delicate and soft. Quesadillas had tender and juicy meat - a little gristle/fat - but not in a bad way. Q's were perfectly toasted with melted cheddar. Tacos were served with traditional cabbage, lime and shredded cheese. Hot sauce on the table was mildly spicy but flavorful. For appetizers we helped ourselves to a huge bag of homemade tortilla chips, salsa and guacamole. Chips were crispy and not greasy. Salsa and guacamole were fresh and had good spice. Total cost for 3 (including drinks): $45.37. Bottom line: best kept secret in Carbondale. read more

"Oh, we serve until 8:00." Due to the way things turned out, we decided to go tonight instead(Wednesday). We rolled up on their restaurant at 7:30 p.m., which appears as if it could be a Mexican grocery store, lacking adequate signage. When I got to the entrance, I saw all the chairs flipped up on a large single table with a "wet floor" sign in the door! I stepped past the sign and asked one of the guys.."how late do you serve?" Went to an annual Fiesta themed party catered by Tortilleria La Roca. Their tamales in the past were always a hit, but this year their tamales were horrible. There was no meat or anything inside. It was basically a sawdust tamale. The hosts were pissed La Roca delivered such terrible food. The refried beans were also runny with the consistancy of pancake batter. Loved this place! Authentic Mexican food that is fresh made and so good! Don't expect to eat there, this is definitely a to-go place but they are speedy and it is worth any wait. I lived in southern Arizona for a few years and amazing Mexican food was pretty easy to find. Apparently that is not the case in CO, but after 13 years of living here we finally found one! I have never actually eaten here because to me, this establishment is more of a grocery store than a restaurant. There are tables and chairs and I have seen many folks eating here however, I buy tortillas, pico and guac here and that is it. The tortillas are the REAL DEAL! Absolutely delicious. We love their homemade tortillas! The tamales are the best deal in town at around $1.50 each. We usually buy a dozen pork tamales to-go each time we visit (chicken tamales also available). They also have a nice grocery store. It's mostly a take-out place for us, but they do have some tables. read more

I was visiting Carbondale for work and am always on the lookout for a great taco. Some places don't make their own tortillas and are really great because they know how to do the meat. Some places make their own tortillas and somehow the experience is still disappointing (small amount of meat, dry meet, unimpressive, crumbly tortillas). This place gets both the tortillas and meat right. They only had carnitas left when I arrived right before the kitchen closed (6pm, fyi), and while the meat was a bit salty for my preference, the flavor and texture was outstanding and the homemade tortillas were top notch. Just enough grease on the outside edges of the tortillas to give them a touch of crunch and a great flavor. I am looking forward to the next time I'm in Carbondale and will make sure to get there before six to try the other meats and menu items. Great, friendly staff as well! read more
