Tucked away in downtown/south LA - this ASPCA spay/neuter site is attached to the local LA County…read moreanimal shelter. Staff here is super friendly and efficient getting everyone checked in and processed for their animal's spay/neuter. The veterinarians here are compassionate and highly efficient proceduralists. Our dog's recovery was so smooth that we were surprised - her incision site was so small and she barely needed her isolation cone. By the next day she was walking around, and her appetite/elimination had returned to normal. The facility itself is so clean and well maintained - the kennels are spotless and tidy, and it's definitely a place where I would trust leaving my household/beloved pet. Parking is narrow and the lot is small, so be careful pulling in and out of the lot. Nearby the side streets are a bit rougher with some shadier types lurking around the corners. If you're coming here for spay/neuter services you're likely here during the day so it's not a factor, but something to be aware of. If you're able to get on their wait list and/or lottery to get seen by their vets, it's totally worth it. Highest recommendation.

They all don't know what they're doing or telling the clientele & get mad when clients come back with incorrect information told to them by their very own employees! Let alone all the reviews mentioning quick euthanization with little effort to rehome these innocent fur babies. F this place!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this rescue. After being rejected by another unnamed…read morerescue for "not being a good fit", a friend put me in touch with Alli and they matched me up with Winston (love at first sight) who I adopted one week later. They made the process easy and painless for a first-time adopter and I highly recommend them to anyone who's looking to give a dog a second chance at a wonderful life. My family is complete and I owe it all to A Dog's Life. THANK YOU!

My husband and I were looking to rescue a younger pup, preferably a shepherd or lab mix. We saw…read moreone on Petfinder from A Dog's Life Rescue. A sweet little thing named Oliver who was being fostered with a cat. I emailed the email address listed with the posting stating our interest and asking if he'd be at the next adoption event. No answer. I called and left a message restating our interest and asking if someone would please call me back as the adoption day was supposed to be tomorrow and we'd be disappointed to drive all the way out there and not see him. No answer. Meanwhile, I'd notice Oliver had been taken off the ADLR web page and PetFinder. I said to my husband "Well, if he has been adopted I'd hope that they'd let us know and that it's a good home" Finally, on adoption day, I called the pet store where the adoption was taking place and asked to speak to someone from the organization. Julia told me that Oliver was not there that day and that they hadn't heard back from his foster family, so they assumed he'd been adopted and to email them so they could keep an eye out for a dog/pup that was good with cats (as Oliver was). Now, I understand that this org is run by volunteers, most if not all are, and that there isn't always time to respond immediately. But if you're not returning phone calls and you're not responding to emails AT ALL even several days later, then there's a problem. How are these dogs to find good homes if potential adopters can't even get a response? And I would expect a rescue organization to have better follow-up and love for the dogs they place/foster than to just assume that they've been adopted after not hearing back from those watching over them. My husband and I ended up adopting a one-year old shelter dog from a wonderful woman named Stacy. Working alone, she saves dogs from shelters, places them with friends and then finds good homes for them. She managed to respond to my emails and calls the same day and she's just one person. Not a good experience at all.

My second experience was terrible. After my puppy was killed while with me on leash by a reckless driver, I later returned to L&L to look for a new baby. Different set of employees, and both my nephew and I were shocked that one of them seemed to blame me for my puppy being killed. He was rude, insensitive to the circumstance, and he did all he could to throw up roadblocks to helping me. He was an expressionless jerk who had zero empathy or professionalism. I contacted the manager about this, and though she three times promised to call me back, she never did. This is heartless behavior for a place that is supposed to be doing good. I will never go back to that place again. The only reason this is not a 1-star review is because my first experience with them was good. That appears to have been an anomaly. I adopted a pup from Best Friends West LA, which I cannot recommend enough.
