Hoyt Pool has been "re-opened" for a few seasons now but yesterday was the first time I could be convinced to go there. I'm not really a "shrieking children" person and I automatically assume all public pools are at least 50% pee. Honestly, I had a great time. Yes, it was packed - they hit capacity and there was a long, long line waiting when we left. Yes, there was mobs and mobs of screaming kids - but I can't really complain too much as I'm on their turf. I appreciated that there were lots of deck chairs, good shaded areas, clean restrooms, and lockers available. There's a reasonably priced concession stand that seems to share a kitchen with the biergarten but they won't serve you beer in the pool. (Booooo!) My nephew went crazy for the diving boards and giant slide and the lines, even on a full day, were never too long. I also had the dubious joy of running into a couple of former co-workers - nothing better than the awkwardness of talking to someone about TPS reports in their swimsuit. On the plus side, we did get to meet fellow Yelper Jess O's absolutely adorable son! I don't know if $7.50 is expensive for a pool entry. I'm not sure exactly how much of the "water" is pee ("a lot" would be a good guess). I can tell you that I had a lot of fun and now have a mild sunburn. The only thing missing is a 18+ area that serves beer. Add that, and I'd never leave. read more

I am so happy The Landing at Hoyt Park came to be. It's a fantastic idea in a great setting in lovely Wauwatosa. It's great for families, the community and exercisers that prefer a tall cool one as their recovery beverage of choice. Like me! (If I worked out, that is.) I've visited The Landing four times since their opening a month ago and each time I've run into someone I know. It's always a fun happenstance and for some reason very different than if you met the same folks in a tavern or restaurant. What makes it so, I'm not quote certain. Maybe it's the large tables that are not too different than the ones folks share at Munich's monster beer bash, Oktoberfest. Or maybe its the fact that it's quiet. There's no noise other than the laughter (or crying, someone's always crying) from small children running circles around the park. People are apt to share tables and engage in conversation while keeping an eye on the little ones. Maybe that's the coolest part of all -- parents that wouldn't dare bring their child into a tavern don't seem to mind bringing their kids to a park where they can enjoy a beer or glass of wine. Being child-free, it doesn't make a big difference to me, but I think it's cool to have a place where parents can go on a weekend day or workday evening where they can relax while the kids burn off energy running around the park. I like the selection of beers at The Landing, too. It's not for the snobbish, but there should be a beer type here that suits your palate. If not beer, there's wine too. Heck, they've even got a Cava from Spain! (Cava. Don't tell a Spaniard I said this, but it's just Champagne that's not from France.) If one's being persnickety, the lines can get a little long and the return of the rental glass is a bit of a hassle, but this is small stuff to me. Since I bring my own stein, the latter doesn't affect my enjoyment of The Landing at all. I suggest you do the same. Bringing your own will not only save you the trouble of the return, but will make you look like a real drinking pro too! ;) The Landing. Thank you to the people and politicians that worked hard to make this happen. I know it was a rocky road to the finish line, but I am certainly happy that you endured and brought the dream to fruition. Judging by how many folks I've seen enjoying The Landing, it looks like I'm not the only one that appreciates your hard work. Their employees are still abusive and doesn't deserve one star. Support other kinder pool businesses. July 18,2019: I'm sad to say I need to change my review on Hoyt Pool, today was the most awful experience I ever had in the last four years my family and I have spent here. Today was my last straw of patience/tolerance to be understanding so they definitely lost a family due to their staff's ignorance which later just became their plain stupidity. We were there around 2-4pm today 7/18. Never in my life have I been yelled and screamed at by so many lifeguards at the same time over a pair of arm floaties ... (One: I'M DEAF and it was kinda obvious so please be a normal human being and get off your butt to talk to me instead of treating me like I had a *bleeping* bomb and making everyone stare at me--I have never been so embarrassed and scared for myself and my kids, it was ridiculous. Two: I was so focused on enjoying and watching my little kids which we had ONE RARE DAY OFF TO ENJOY the Hoyt Pool) Suddenly I am noticing this girl lifeguard whom we were not even more than 3-3 1/2 ft away from is losing her patience as well as one other guy who looked annoyed off to the side, then I saw my friend kept telling this girl lifeguard I was deaf multiple of times so that little brat had the to nerve to turn her megaphone and started yelling at my 4 year old close by and my poor kid began to get freaked out--wtf, lifeguard!!! No need for the megaphone! Just because you're not getting your point across to a deaf person doesn't mean you get to yell at a CHILD. Once I saw she was yelling at my child, I got pissed and verbally and signed to her telling her quit her yelling at my children non stop, I'm deaf and leave us alone, we were not in danger of any sort. She tried to motioned us closer to her, I was like hell no. Not the way you're treating us, I don't want to come near you after all that ordeal. So we left that side of pool area closer to shallow waters just to get away from the lifeguards that were constantly pointing at me and saying whatever to each other. JUST A FEW MINUTES LATER, my youngest wanted to check out main water playground and she was shy to come down on their double slide so I decided to join her just for the first time to help her understand it's fun... after we slid down side by side on the double slide, I noticed I was being yelled at AGAIN so I decided to ignore them since they weren't getting off their butts to come talk to me like a respectful human being (just for future tip: hire lifeguards in the water if you can't get off your post) anyways, finally they sent out their manager guy to come talk to me--mind you, I'm deaf and I do lipread pretty well--but the guy had a beard. C'mon! ‍ I can't lip read someone with a beard so he's making these huge arm gestures of what I'm doing wrong... finally I told him to "stop, just talk normal" he began to make excuses for EVERYTHING--NO understandings from them, NO apologies from anyone, NO offer of refund (I spent probably over $40 bucks for an hour in the pool being nothing but harassed by their staff). The whole experience was just awful!!!! My 4 year old cried the whole way home saying how mean the people were. You can't move an inch without someone waving and yelling at you... I was with a very pregnant friend who was yelled at a couple times over the simplest things and many others--this is not safety, this is borderline harassment by bored high school kids. Learn the difference. I would not waste your money on this place until they pick new safety routines. read more

So, I am high risk for Covid (due to immune disease, not age). I am also on disability. I used to swim in the local schools indoor pools or at the YMCA, but I don't feel comfortable doing indoor stuff during the pandemic. So I looked at Hoyt pool. They ONLY do dedicated lap swim / adult time only for members--otherwise it's Open Swim with the masses. They want $90 for a membership--which is 4 months. At this point, I would only get 2.5-3 months out of it--but they don't reduce the price. I also can't even go every day, so this is really expensive. What an exclusive, white, privileged club this is. Disabled people and those of lower income need not apply. read more

I am not a people person. I don't like when people talk around me, I don't like when people's kids are yelling and screaming around me, I don't like feeling crowded.....I don't like a lot of things. Because of this I haven't been to a public pool or a water park around 10 years. Hoyt Park Pool is the exception to the rule. I don't know if it's the neighborhood or what, but I went here with my family on a Sunday and had a great time. The place wasn't packed, even though it was the perfect day to be at the pool. The kid area was perfect for my little nephew (who also had a great time), the giant slide was awesome, the people were actually watching their kids. It was a really great day. I'm really apprehensive about posting this review, because the last thing I want is a bunch of new people going to my favorite pool...but I can bring myself to tarnish Hoyt Pool's reputation on the off chance that one of you will be sitting in my chair this weekend. All the things you love about Estabrook Park? You won't find them here. You will, however, find longer lines, no dedicated glass return line, many, many more children and no music, so if those are your things, then you're in luck. Since Hoyt is much closer to home, we stopped in on an early Saturday evening. I was happy to note that despite much screaming from the pool as we passed it, you can't hear it when you're seated at the Beer Garden. But the kids working inside are disorganized and maybe just don't care? There were plenty of them on duty, but instead of some sort of orderly serving of beer and working of registers, it seemed haphazard at best and chaotic at worst. When a keg ran out, no one seemed to have any idea how to handle it. We stood in line longer to return our glasses and receive our deposit back than we did to initially buy the beer in the first place. This place NEEDS a dedicated glassware return line. There was apparently supposed to be music at 6 pm, but when we left at a few minutes after, there was none and no sign of anyone setting up. While there are always kids at Estabrook, I never feel overwhelmed by them or like its the weird "kid in a bar" vibe, but there were multiple kids at every table here. The pool vibe carries over and while I can't exactly blame the kids for that, it's not the vibe I'm looking for to relax with a pint. As a couple without kids, we were in the extreme minority. Speaking of which - though there were many more beer choices, for the more discriminating drinker, drinks here come in pints, not liter and half-liter. I can only measure this against Estrabrook and the local Oktoberfest and it just doesn't measure up. Calling it a beer garden is a cheap attempt to steal the popularity Estabrook has managed. It's an outdoor family dining/picnic area that happens to serve beer. If you're looking for a more westerly Estabrook experience, this isn't it. read more

Being new to the hood, I was very excited to check this place out and not at all disappointed. Hopping crowd here on a Friday night but plenty of seating to go around - nice picnic tables, umbrellas, and strings of lights scatter the area. A local duo played some fun covers while we enjoyed a cold beer and a really tasty GIANT pretzel (with 3 dippers, to boot). Brews here come in all sizes, from pint to MASSIVE BOOT OF BEER; just be prepared to put down a deposit for the glass, unless you intend to wander home with it. Easy access to this spot from the parking lot or path, making it very accessible to walkers, drivers, bikers, etc. I don't have a pup, but we spotted quite a few here. Dog friendly, hooray! From what I understand, live music Thurs - Sat night. As others have said, this is a very family-friendly place, but we enjoyed that the crowd was eclectic and covered a wide range. Great public pool offering lessons, adult lap swim, and special parent-toddler open swim, in addition to regular open swim hours. The staff is friendly and they have an awesome jungle gym-like play area for little kids (probably ideal for brave 2 year olds through 5 year olds), lots of water spouts and sprinklers, and a big water slide for older kids. They also have a sandy play area for kids to dig and play. Overall this is a really well-designed pool for people of every age, whether you have a family or not.. (Although beware that if you don't like kids, this place is teeming with them! haha) read more

This Review is for the Grand Hall at the Tosa Pool at Hoyt Park. I bet you didn't even know there was a Grand Hall at the Tosa Pool and you can rent it for parties and special occasions! I've planned two parties here and both times, the place worked out great. The hall can comfortably hold about 100 people, has a wonderful fireplace (you can request wood to use), coat racks, clean bathrooms, and they will set up the room with chairs and tables as you request. You will need to bring your own food, beverages (yes, beer is allowed), and decorations. You rent the hall by the hour (with a security deposit) during the day or evening. Reserve early, because some weekend slots are tough to schedule. read more

I went to the pool for the first time this last weekend and really enjoyed it. It was kind of overpacked, but what can you expect for a public pool on a 90 degree day. The place is kept clean, the staff is attentive and there was actually enough chairs for us to lounge around for a bit. I'd recommend for something to do on a hot day! read more

I think this is a great addition to tosa, plenty of seating, decent beer selection, big pretzels! Bring your own cup or put down a small deposit for a glass. We brought our own picnic lunch and enjoyed a few beers with it. It could use some music to drown out the close proximity of screaming kids at the pool, but I think it's a great reprieve for some while the rest of the family is enjoying themselves at the waterpark. read more

The concept of a beer garden was new to me, but after coming here a few times, I can definitely see the appeal and quite enjoy our new beer garden. The park is situated in a lovely area on the bike path. Out door picnic tables, there is also plenty of handicap seating. Lovely overhanging lights. The beer is reasonably priced, the selection does vary somewhat day to day. For 10 bucks, you can get a gigantic glass (I think it's 32oz) of beer. There are also snacks like gigantic pretzels (which are delicious) and brats and popcorn. I think that this place fills a unique void in Tosa. I disagree that this place is not appropriate for children. Every time we go, there are plenty of kids running around playing, there is a park steps away and grass to play in. I un-expectantly ended up at this spot. After a long day of work and leaving an hour after I was supposed to, my colleague invited me to go on a nature walk with her. To our surprise we ended up in a beer garden. I can see why so many people love Milwaukee. You go walking in a park and you end up in a bar... Too funny. The YAY We happened to go the landing when there was a Halloween Costumed Themed party going on. There were kiddos everywhere dressed in their halloween best. The parents were also dressed accordingly. My friend and I decided to try their pinot noir and chat and observe the happenings at the landing. The pinot was fine (nothing to call home about). The pizza smelled amazing.. Cranky Als of course. Will make sure to check that out next time. The Nay Honestly I can't say anything negative about the landing. I had a nice evening there. Tosa-tacular! Nothing says "summer time fun" to the kiddies like the local community pool. I grew up in Cudahy and we had Sheridan pool. It was nice, but not like this. But then Cudahy is not Wauwatosa. I love the story behind Tosa pool: Milwaukee County wouldn't and couldn't get their act together to restore this local gem so the local do-gooders stepped in and made it happen. Through community fund raising and an angel philanthropist, Tosa pool was brought back to life bigger, better, and more in tune with today's pool- entertainment needs. I love the fact that this place has something for everyone: lap lanes, diving boards, a zero-depth entry "beach," a large shallow-ish area for the kiddies, and lifeguards that occasionally go aggro on some little snotty brat and dress him down in front of his stupid friends ( I was elated to witness this.) And then there is the slide. Wanna see an overweight middle aged white guy come shooting out of a tube like crap from a goose? Then you need to watch me go down the slide, but I digress...The lounge chairs and umbrellas are great. There is a nice covered picnic area for families. The consession stands are reasonable priced. The dressing rooms and bathrooms, while clean, are functional at best. Very 1930's WPA park-utilitarian. Had enough of the screaming kiddies and preteens? Just head around to the other side of the pool house to the Landing beer garden. Have a beer or three and forget about the sunstroke you just had. Very expensive for those who just want an hour or two swim on a hot day. Visited for the first time on 7/18/15. Far too many people, especially how it affects the parking on a busy day- it is a nightmare! Saw numerous cars parked in what could be spaces but they had white lines through them. I did that also because I had 3 sweltering kids in my car dying to get into the pool, I know I shouldn't have. But I got a ticket, however the other 6 or so cars had NO tickets- not cool. Ticket everyone, not just one vehicle. I was there an hour and a half. Spent $30 to swim already, now I have a ticket to pay on top of it because of less than ample parking, along with neighborhood construction on swan blvd area that limited parking also. Their system waiting in line for paying a cashier, then getting in a new line to have someone check your receipt where rude kids and adults butt in front of you to get their hands stamped for readmission does not work efficiently and how cruel to keep 3 young kids waiting to swim, while other rude kids cut in front of them! Ugh. When we got in to the pool area, the entire kiddie are was roped off, plus the deeper end and the waterslide. Never was this mentioned by the cashier! One lifeguard said it would be 30 minutes, another said 15. Neither seemed to no know what was going on. They said they just dumped shock chemicals in (super, now I'm gonna have chlorine bleach toxicity!). Why on earth was this not done PRIOR to opening rather than when you have a hundred or two hundred plus people waiting to swim and enjoy the ridiculously expensive fun they paid for? And how are teenage lifeguards making these decisions?? Not cool or safe. Did not see one adult working at the place. It ended up major impacting our swim time we paid heftily for might I add! There were 4 swim lap lanes open...why? Barely saw it used and taking up prime pool space for the huge crowd there. Only one diving board was open, yet constant line of kids waiting. Shut down a lap lane and open the other diving board! Serve your paying customers! Definitely will not return anytime soon, or ever if I can help it. My kids had a better time at the free 18inch deep splash pad in Cooper Park down the street by Mount Mary. Very disappointed in the clear lack of adult supervision of the teenage staff making chemical decisions, the price, parking, and the available swim areas. read more

I had no idea The Landing existed, and that it was so close to my house! We strolled out yesterday to enjoy the sun, the same idea everyone had. Which is great! Except for the 83 children who were completely unsupervised and without manners, but that is not The Landing's fault. They have a good selection of beers, lots of seating, such a pretty view. I was excited for this to open because it is close to my work, but I will make the trip to Estabrook if given the choice. The faire is good enough, but the staff don't know what they are doing, ang the crowd is not as fun loving as the Estabrook crowd. People don't seem to want to meet the people seated around them. This is strictly for the pool, none of the other services offered. If you are thinking about having a birthday party here don't what was supposed to be a memorable experience for my daughter was horrific. Not only that there were no managers available. Most of the children that worked there were pleasant and understanding however, they were not equipped to answer certain questions and was caught in the crossfire because there was no manager present. When we were finally able to contact management, the buck was passed to other people and they all kept offering season passes for next season. Not actually taking responsibility for many hiccups and a bad customer experience for a party that was over $300. At no point we're we looking for a refund but they just kept saying we can't give you a full refund. No ownership or accountability taken to create a better experience or fix the issue. Just a season pass offer that felt like " here just take this, and go away." Why would I accept season passes, what would make me want to come back? read more

Just checked this out last weekend for a surprise birthday party I was attending. I've been to Estabrook and loved it and this one is definately a close second. They have a small stage for live music and large and small steins just like Estabrook does. I would say that The Landing is a little more family friendly than Estabrook. They have a small play area for children and there just seems to be more young families scattered around. I also liked how they had small blue overhangs over some of the tables to give you some shade. The lighting at night was pretty great as well. Food is also an option at this park, or you could order/bring your own food. No complaints. read more

Very nice public pool in the Tosa area. It is very clean and well managed. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's a very family friendly place with lots of activities for younger children with a sand pit and a jungle gym water area. There are also water slides, diving boards, water spouts, and basketball hoops for the older kids. The locker rooms are nice and well kept. There is also a concessions available that has a nice assortment of snacks and beverages. The only downfall is the pool does get crowded, but it's a great place and everyone wants to enjoy it. read more

Pool is located in a nice location but parking is super limited during busy days/hours. Their open ours indicate they're open 6-8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays but we just went on a Thurs at 6 and they announced that the pool was closing giving no reason as to why. Several other families faced the same news and returned to their cars. My kids were so disappointed and I felt like a jerk for promising them an evening of swimming that I couldn't follow through with. Not happy with the inconsistent hours. read more

This is a really nice pool! Great for the family. The only thing is I wish it weren't so pricey...I totally understand that the pool costs a lot to run, especially after the renovation. But 7.50 I think is a little steep. But still, a very nice pool! In the regular swimming area, the water actually goes pretty deep (8, 9 feet?) So it's very fun! read more

Oh, I just had the most delightful time at The Landing at Hoyt Park! I can't believe it took me this long to find it! I went alone but it didn't matter...I met the most fascinating women, and chatted with them for about 45 minutes! After all, how could I not approach them, they had they cutest dogs ever! The Landing is located right outside the entrance to Hoyt Park pool, and it is charming times 10. It's set in the park, but is a bit more manicured than the other beer gardens I've been to, and is located on completely paved terrain making it accessible for everyone. This place is awesome! I only wish I had arrived in time to see the band which ended its session at 8pm. Apparently, there's music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday...so I just may return. Always have had a great time here. Love the outdoor changing area with the sky as a ceiling. Although crowded, can usually find a chair in shade, or sit towards the back and read a book even (haven't had time to do this in years), yet look up and people watch to see enjoyment on faces of all ages. After my friend arrives, we go to the lap lanes to swim at our own pace and gently work out for flexibility as our bodies allow. Did slide last year, and either here or Country Springs Hotel, came around one corner too fast, being tipped backward and both my knees came up almost catching on the top of the tube wondering if I could have broken a leg! Perhaps older people shouldn't ride the slide (65+) esp if you've broken a knee a year earlier. Oh, well, those days are gone, but may refocus on an open slide in the future somewhere else - like Dells... Yes, it's difficult to pay $7.50 and bring 3 children for me, (friends kids), especially if I also want to take them to the zoo another day, a budget movie (our $1 budget theatre closed hurting many people and seniors too), and food plus an ice cream somewhere. I'm going broke this summer, even renting two scooters at zoo, 1 for me and 1 for physically challenged man who always wanted to learn to ride a car, so dropped $50 after getting into zoo free by doing a clean-up program but paid $12 for parking, then more for Sea Lion Show. I had to pack chilled Kool-Aid and PBJ sandwiches in order to get them ice cream at the end and still went through $100 in 1 day! Very difficult with having a $590 hospital bill to pay, and 2 pair glasses for another $600! My vacation this year was to drive to south side, pick up 2 friends, and go look at Lake Michigan, then drive North for half an hour, findind a nice market to shop in. Hope to get up North yet soon as no vacation in 2 years! But, until then, getting to this pool really relaxed me and gave me a mini vacation by water - which a lot of people love and grew up doing with boats and/or fishing even! The tons of trees, oxygen, shade, and occasional trains, all put you in a great mood! - Don't like the parking? Come earlier or later when the first shift of swimmers leaves.
