The owners of the WAC have done a great job creating additional workout space with the recent renovations. This location is always super busy, irregardless of the time of day. By removing a few under utilized class rooms, they've created an open space for more body weight movements. This was a great update. Parking is always tricky because of the multiple clinics and city market, also on site. read more

We've been a member of WAC for a little over a year and it's slowly going downhill unfortunately The bad: they greatly reduced the sauna temperature because of one misuse and now it has doubled the time needed to spend in the sauna for efficiency, despite other WACs maintaining the 190 temp and multiple complaints... Also, there will be classes off blocking off the entire weight room during my only period of time to work out so I am unable to get the kettlebell weights needed for my exercises due to a class using a PUBLIC room. Lastly, the pickleball afternoon times are so limited and they will randomly have lessons without posting anywhere on the virtual schedule causing people to drive all the way there and they can't use the gym for the already limited pickleball times. I mean you guys have two apps (confusing!) you'd think you could figure out how to post the times online... The good: for what you get with the classes and really nice showers the price is relatively affordable. read more

This location has a great setup, lots of power racks, and decent locker room space. The main issue is they are allowing too many memberships for this location, the same issue with all of the other WAC locations in SE Wisconsin. "We do that because some members quit by mid-march when they give up on new years resolutions, and it helps the membership at a steady rate" Well that's a great business model , but it's also causing inconvenience for the current customers that pay a lot of money for their membership. So people that are regulars have to wait a while to use a bench or a rack, even a treadmill on certain days in the new year, all the way until now (April almost). To add to that, there are some lower-quality individuals that like to reserve the equipment for themselves, and blast their music on their phones completely oblivious they are around other individuals that need to use the equipment. I've even seen people "zonked out of their gourd" on whatever stimulants (I'm not talking about preworkout powder, I'm taking about something much harder) throwing weights around making insane amounts of noise. Complaints to the college-age individuals at the front desk are usually met with confused "I haven't been trained for this" looks. To me, this is unacceptable especially when I have to pay 80 dollars a month. Money would be much better spent by buying components for a home gym. $80/mo X 12 months is 960 dollars. That's a decent used power rack/home gym and 400 lbs. of weight or so, maybe even a treadmill or rowing machine to go along with it. Then you wouldn't have to worry about getting ringworm or mononucleosis either. It's a WIN WIN right? read more

I've been a member since 2018. Pros: -Decent equipment, not too busy during non-peak hours. -keeps good hours and great location. -Staff at the desk is almost always friendly and helpful. Aarif, in particular, is always friendly, helpful, and sets a good tone. -The locker room is cramped, but clean. Cons: -Pricing is a bit absurd. I paid half the price for a larger, newer gym with twice the equipment in San Diego, where overhead would have been at least 50% higher. I don't begrudge the WAC their market dominance, but it does mean that Crunch or some other national chain has a golden opportunity in Greater Milwaukee. -some of the teenaged staff clearly isn't trained. Can't answer questions like, "hey what are you hours tomorrow?" When tomorrow is a holiday. And sometimes doesn't even acknowledge you, but would rather carry on whatever conversation they were having amongst each other. Not a big deal though, just kids being kids. -instead of waiting until after hours to clean, staff will vacuum around you while you lift as though you aren't there. Not the safest idea to be dragging tripping hazards around while people are carrying free weights to and from the rack. Big institutional problem: in fall of 2021, a member was caught filming me and dozens of other members (some were minors) changing and showering in the locker room. This form of sexual assault is NOT the club's fault. This creep broke the rules established by the WAC. He was arrested, and then quickly fled the country after posting bail (that's a different story...). My problem with the WAC is not that this happened, but in how they dealt with it. Or just decided not to deal with it. I found out about the whole thing when a Wauwatosa Police detective pulled up to my house in a squad car and knocked on my door. It scared the crap out of my pregnant wife. The detective told me that the WAC management identified me from the videos and provided my info to the police. Never once did management reach out to inform me about the incident, inform me that the police would be in contact, or attempt to check in with me about it. I'm a businessman. I get that management needs to protect the company against any liability. But the way this incident was mishandled continues to bother me on a daily basis. What was their strategy? Let the police talk with the affected members and never acknowledge that this happened? What if something even more serious happened? Instead of rising to the occasion, management acted cowardly and/or lazily. The inaction conveys that the WAC does not see me, or it's other members, as anything other than a source of a revenue. It's managerial incompetence at best, but probably indicates a callous disregard for the well-being of membership. In spite of the pricing, Despite the minor 'cons' listed above, I used to be a huge advocate of the WAC. I encouraged my buddies to join. But after this, why would anyone have loyalty? I'm waiting for Crunch (my gym in San Diego) or someone else to open up nearby. It's a golden opportunity. The WAC doesn't seem to care, and it definitely hasn't earned my loyalty. read more

I've been a member of the Wisconsin Athletic Club for 23 years, and have been going to the Wauwatosa location since it opened in 1999. The building is an old firehouse and they maintained its old world charm with high ceilings, brick walls and exposed mechanicals like a loft. Studio memberships have kept me away lately but I returned recently to newly remodeled locker and spin rooms and other refreshing updates. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, and the personal training is affordable. The classes are top notch and what I like most is the variety. Ringside, spin, Pilates and my new favorite body pump. Some of the equipment is a little used but works well and the weight selections are plentiful so you can always find what you want. The memberships are affordable and I can visit any club I want. When my son is home from college it's easy to add him for a month or the summer inexpensively. My daughter recently moved back to town and has her own membership which is tons of fun. I still remember when she went to the Kids Clubhouse as a little one. The childcare was top notch and I never worried about her or her brother while I worked out. In addition to fitness classes, the WAC also has nutrition and weight loss groups that seem motivating and helpful. I'll just say it's been fun to be back. read more

I have been a member of the WAC for 19 years. Recently I had an incident in the parking lot with another member because he drove through a stop sign (in this municipality, the stop sign is enforceable in private lots). He disagreed and went ballistic and began yelling at me in the lot. Another member reported this to the front desk and was concerned about my safety. A staff member came out and walked up to me. He did not have a name tag and his WAC shirt was mostly covered. I wasn't sure who he was and thought it may be a friend of the member. He refused to let me tell my side of the story and kept repeating "Is there damage. Is anyone hurt" and informed me two people complained. He began to raise his voice and I asked why he was getting angry and he said I was the aggressor. I spoke to the MOD (Manager on Duty) who told me only one person reported this to the desk and she was not complaining. She also told me the other member wants to "kick my a**". I am currently dealing with the Manager and I am meeting with an owner. I discovered there is no member handbook, so members are not aware of WAC expectations. During the 19 years as a member, my locker has been broken into twice and money taken and due to the mistake of an employee, a machine I was using malfunction, injuring me and subsequently I required surgery. I reported both but never received follow up from a manager or owner. I have concerns about safety and the safety of other members. I hope I can reach a resolution with the owner. read more

I love being a member of all of the WAC gyms but this one is my favorite. I have been a member for 10+ Years and visited most of them. I enjoy the building itself at this location. It has character and is setup is ideal for me. I typically workout after work (aka prime time) so it is BUSY! but i expect this and think it is typical of any gym as this time. It can be frustrating some days when it is more busy than usual/after New Years but usually it is tolerable. They have also done some machine updating this year which is always appreciated. The staff is friendly, you receive a locker key when you get there, they have shower and sweat towels for use while there, and the locker rooms are fully stocked with soap, hair spray, deoderant, Qtips, lotion, and shampoo (that I wouldnt use as shampoo) but they still have it!. The locker rooms can get crowded but are also usually tolerable. I think this is the best gym option in Milwaukee. With multiple locations across the Greater Milwaukee area, many class options, varying hours, and a fair price I think you pay for what you get and what you get here is quality. I recommend this gym chain especially this location. read more

Love being a member of the WAC and have been about 10 years on and off. Not all WAC locations are created equal and Tosa happens to be my personal favorite. While it's not one of the newest, I think the set up is optimal compared to others. Downside obviously of it being a quality gym, is how busy it gets. Try heading there on a weeknight between 4-6:30 and you'll find out how bad you want to work out. You'll put the old adage, sharing is caring to the test with people stealing your workout equipment or spending a half hour texting, er squatting on the squat rack. The WAC is probably your best option for a gym in Milwaukee as they have six or seven area locations which I've helpful if I'm running errands away from my regular hood. They have towel service, which a sweaty person like me does NOT take for granted. Most members are normal which is much appreciated as well. read more

Brand new member alert. A coworker gave me a 7-day trial pass, I actually used it and surprised myself by enjoying the experience so I decided to join. No one is more shocked than me. I think it helped that we are apparently in gym off season since the weather is decent out. I waited a whole week to leave my review because I wanted to comment on a variety of things. Gym machines and weights still not sure how most work but I used the elliptical because that was familiar to me and gave the rowing machine a shot. No problem find a machine to use. One of the main reasons I joined is to get back into swimming and I've made it into the pool one morning. I shared a lane with another swimmer and hope I had good lane etiquette. Another morning I did a spin class with a friend. At first, I hated the class but at the end of the class, I didn't hate it as much as when it first started. So far all the staff have been friendly and helpful. I haven't felt judged by other gym goers. It's been a good experience and I'm looking forward to being a bit more active! read more

Went for my fall comfort massage today. Jenelle was very good with excellent pressure and all-around great body massage. The Tosa location recently renovated, including the massage rooms. Tables were perfectly heated with soft and comfortable linens, hot fresh towels throughout. Prices are comparable with a discount for members. read more

My evil, evil sister talked me into joining the WAC about a month ago. She said "it will be fun! We'll get in shape! We can go together! Yay!" Now - anyone who knows me well knows my personal feelings about the gym....ever see someone hauling ass on the treadmill? They look miserable. Sweaty, stinky and miserable. I am now one of those people. That said, I've been happy with the WAC. *Most (80%+) of classes including yoga, Pilates and Zumba are free *This location is very clean and both patrons and staff seem to keep it that way *Two pools - one for classes, one for laps. Very limited "kids hours" in the pool which I appreciate *Clean, nice locker rooms with enough showers. I appreciate the sauna and steam room - again, both are very clean. *Lots and lots of cardio stuff - machines seem to be kept up and maintained *Nice instructors and staff. I have yet to encounter a grumpy one. *Not too many meatheads or scenesters. People seem to come in, do their thing and get on with it. *Great sign up special with credits that can be used towards massages or personal training. Speaking of personal training, I signed up with one because Lord knows I need all the help I can get!!! I work with Jeremy - he's a nice guy who knows how hard to push and keep you motivated. Also, after a session with him I want to throw up and then die, so I'm getting my money's worth for sure. EDIT: I've been going to the WAC for 4-5 months and I still feel like it's a 5-star experience. Everything is clean, the people are really friendly and the machines are kept working. I've been a member at The WAC now for about 3 years. Generally speaking, it is a pleasant and comfortable place to work out. With locations throughout Milwaukee, I find that each club has its own feel. I frequent the Tosa, Stallis, Greenfield and Downtown locations the most. Most of the equipment is newer and well-maintained, although the cardio equipment with built-in TVs often have faulty earphone connections. There is usually enough machines to meet the demand, though at busy time, as would be expected, you don't always get your pick of machines. The staff is very nice. They are always very pleasant and i find that they get to know a lot of the members on a personal level. I've never taken a class or done any personal training, so I'm not able to comment on them. Sometimes i wish the personal trainers would spend less time flirting with each other and/or members, and more time cleaning machines and making sure there are towels! LOL. Free coffee in the morning is a nice touch. Some of the locations have pools, gyms, hot tubs. The Stallis location is great with tons of racquetball courts and a bar! The cost is a bit high, however. They have great deals to join the club, but have no retention programs to keep members. I've called several times asking if there are specials for existing members, and I always get the same response: No. I'll keep calling and asking... If you are looking for a no-frills cheap place to work out, The WAC is not your place. This is not a Snap or Anytime Fitness type of a place. I enjoy the feel of the "club" and many of the extra amenities that The WAC offers. read more

This is the closest WAC to my house, but I'm considering switching to another location. *Staff: either incompetent or condescending. Even though the locker room is spacious, they'll give you a locker right next to someone else in line, so that's awkward. I am going to guess that with the turnover they have here, most of the staff haven't seen the inside of the locker room, so pick a favorite and try for it when you check in. I've given up on trying to book personal training or sign up for classes with these degens. *Equipment: kind of run down; some of the machines have newer TVs, which is nice. Others have broken buttons and no TV attached. Total crapshoot. *Pool: Great during Adult Swim times. Nobody rinses off before soaking their feet in the hot tub (Lookin' at you, MMA bros). *Lockers: Often dirty, with towels strewn across the floor or abandoned shoes; I go twice a week and there's always at least 1-2 broken down appliances. There are some older showers in the back (away from the pool showers), and those are usually empty, somewhat clean, and have better water pressure. read more

This location is ok in terms of amenities. In terms of customer service, I've had a pretty awful experience with the front desk staff. I typically go to the West Alis location, but this location has slightly longer hours most days. I had spoken to my membership specialist at WA about adding my daughter to my membership, which he said was not possible due to her age, but he gave me several guest passes for her so that she could try the gym to see if she'd like to sign up for her own membership. Great. Well, the Friday before Memorial Day, without notice, this location closed early. No sign, no phone message, nothing altering anyone to the change. Myself and numerous other people showed up, sat in the driveway calling and watching others going in and coming out in confusion. It wasn't until several days later that we learned it was due to Memorial Day. Already a sign of pretty poor management. On Tuesday 6/1 I tried to take my daughter with me to WAC in Tosa. We arrived at around 8ish pm. There were two men working the counter, both bearded. One was shorter and stocky and one was taller. The taller man took my card to scan and when I tried to give him the guest pass, rudely told us she couldn't come in because of a guest policy that said no guests after 745p. It was the first time I had heard this, and there was no email, note on the pass or comment about it from the worker who gave it to me.Mind you I'd paid to bring my daughter as a guest numerous times there and at other WAC locations without issue. I asked for explanation about this policy and he rolled his eyes, shrugged his shoulders like I was giving him a hard time, and said he didn't know and that he didn't make the rules. As a person of color, I'm used to going into places in certain well off areas of the city and being refused service coldly, rudely and without reason, and this guy was giving absolutely no *reason*. I asked to speak to a manager, wanting clarification on this. He sighs loudly and says "yea, I'm the manager on duty" which shocked me because he didn't have one single ounce of professional quality to even pretend to be. I told him I wanted to understand the reason my daughter was being told she couldn't stay without prior notice, no signage anywhere basically kicking us out- because it was pretty hard to believe we weren't being discriminated against. He said he worked there one day a week and he didn't make the rules. He gave me the card to the general manager and rolled his eyes and had a "go away" type of attitude with us. It was pretty disgusting and humiliating. I couldn't believe I was paying $71 a month for a membership to be treated this way. I had just been telling my daughter how sophisticated and high quality the WAC was compared to other gyms as we were parking our car and this is what we walked in to. Back at West Allis on another day, I asked the supervisor on duty about the incident to which she responded that they receive a lot of complaints about Tosa. She said that Tosa has been having a "guest problem" which is likely code word for Tosa community doesn't like folks of certain backgrounds in the gym and is trying various means of preventing them from visiting, including controlling guest access as well as crass and dehumanizing rudeness to their own members in hopes they feel offended and dehumanized enough to return. read more

It's been about 8 months since I joined the WAC and I'm still really loving it. They always have fun events going on and it really keeps everyone engaged. I love their monthly "Try It Week," and found new classes to take through that. Most notably, the Barre Burner class, which has quickly turned into my favorite thing. I've gotten more confident using the machines and equipment and have yet to find an issue with any of them. They're always working in good order. read more

WAC is the best area gym, so it pains me to give them 3 stars. Maybe I just got spoiled by the Brookfield location. There's a couple of deciding factors that goes into my review: Parking: I rant to my friends about the parking lot constantly. It's not the WAC's fault, but fellow WAC patrons can be obnoxious about finding parking close to it. I get it is annoying to park far away, but WAC is next to an orthopedic clinic. We can walk. Some people cannot walk. It will not kill you to park in the farther lots. Heck, it can even count as your warm-up. I would LOVE for a sign to go up that reminds people that walking in the parking lot is the start of their workout. 1 star. Size of facility: Small and can feel really cramped, depending on where you are. 2 stars. Showers: Clean, have a lock, good water pressure aside from 1 stall which I now avoid. 4 stars. Equipment: Fair. 3 stars. View from the machine I like to run on: It's a wall, but they have my favorite machine, so there's that. 4 stars. Staff: No complaints here. Everyone has been fine. 4 stars. Classes: Good variety, and there's a pool, so there's that. 5 stars. Built-in Bar: Non-existent. I don't go to the gym to go to the bar, so I'm not going to rate this, but there's a WAC that has a bar... read more

Amazing gym! Too much construction going on lately, but one of the best gyms I've been too. Staff is friendly and the locker rooms are excellent. I would have given them 5 stars for a wonderful pool (albeit rather cold water) After coming here from June 20, 2022 to July 28, 2022, but today's experience there convinced me to either stop my membership completely or join the more inexpensive YMCA to swim at the YMCA on 13th and North Avenue. I was having a conversation with the parents of my MPS students (one of a former student now in college and one of a current student, child of Germans who want her to learn their language) and it was perceived as racist by someone in the locker room. She complained at the desk tot he two young WAC employees who reprimanded me and said my membership may be terminated. The female employee treated me like I child, lecturing me on how to speak so that I am not seines a "bad person." Those were her words. I am 62; she had NOT CLUE of the context of this conversation, which was about changes in education and specifically foreign language education in a Milwaukee Public School. She claimed she had gone in the locker room after the complaint to overhear what I was saying. Apparently the WAC can terminate one's membership after conversations deemed racist in the locker room. Excuse me, but I LIVE in Milwaukee, have worked for MPS for 35 years, and she had no clue of the context of this discussion with parents about the particular school I work at. Join the YMCA rather than the WAC. Please consider the YMCA or a community pool through MPS. read more

Love it but what's up with the steam room at the location in Brookfield, did they change the settings? Low continuous flow of steam that doesn't feel that hot and I have to sit by the spigot. Makes me feel like what's the point? There are two buttons and I'm still lost as to which does what. BTW I'm writing this in the steam room which normally doesn't work if it's the right temp and humidity. Plse help for future reference. So I have to start out by saying I'm really not a gym-lete. There's nothing wrong with gym's or getting your work out on there, but I'm a runner and to me there's nothing better than running outside and seeing the beauty in nature. That said, this winter was absolutely brutal, and while I can run in single-digit weather (hello awesome running gear!) I draw the line when the windchill is in the negatives. And since not working out is not an option, I was forced to find a reasonable alternative. And I went for the WAC, and it's awesome! They have a handful of convenient locations all around the metropolitan Milwaukee area, but my favorite is the one on Watertown Plank (mostly because it's close to where I work and shop). When I was shopping around for a gym I went and toured this facility and a couple of things really stood out and influenced my decision to join here. 1. There business hours are the best (aside from the 24hr gyms). During the week they're open from 4:30-11pm and the weekends it varies from 7-8am-7pm-ish. I was looking for something with a lot of flexibility. 2. The facility itself. I can't speak for other locations, but this one is gigantic! They have a wide variety of machines and popular ones they have two of. Makes getting in and out for a work out a breeze so you're not standing around waiting for your last rep on your last machine to open up. Also they have a whole dedicated area to cardio, with a TON of treadmills, ellipticals, and bicycles available. The last wasn't so much a have to, but they had a lot of perks for joining along with friendly staff. They offer gift certificate for making and fulfilling your two complementary sessions with their trainers (worth $100!), as well as free, week long guest passes at different times throughout the year. I also recently got a gift certificate for going there consistently over a month or so (and these can be used on anything except your membership fees), which are very reasonably priced for all they offer. Justin was the guy who toured my boyfriend and I around, definitely ask for him because he's really knowledgable about the WAC and that specific location (all the classes they offer, rehab for injuries, massages, tanning, swim lessons, etc.). My MAIN GYM (since moving to Tosa a year and a half ago)! I like the layout here. Its open. I like that they have a pool. Multiple Gyms, always something going on. Not smelly.. everythings clean. If you ever need anything, Talk to Ian, hes always eager to help and is super friendly. His wife BIZ teaches yoga there (and at other WAC locations) and she is one of the most amazing yoga instructors Ive had the opportunity to yoga with. If you ever have an opportunity to take one of her classes I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!!!!!!!! They have TRY IT weekends or SUPER SATURDAYS where you can bring in guests and have them check things out with you and try a class. You can also get a week or two week membership to try things out before you sign up. I did, and it solidified my decision to join! There is parking in the lower level if you cant find it right away.. it does get pretty busy around the 4-6pm hours but I have never been SO INCONVENIENCED that a good sweat couldn't overcome.. They also have a kids area where you can sign the kids (under 18) up for like $12 a month which I think is a pretty good rate. read more

What can I say, I love my club! The staff are helpful and friendly, the other members are courteous and nice, and it's very clean and sanitary. I've never had to wait for a cardio machine as rarely for a weight machine (this area is busier in the evening). There are many complimentary classes that are all fun and have great instructors- body works (my personal favorite), Zumba, boxing, interval training, core training, spin, step, yoga, Pilates...just to name a few. There are also specialty classes at a cost, 2 pools, jot tub, sauna, massages and tanning. The cost is obviously more than the small 24 hour fitness clubs, but I think the amenities, atmosphere, classes and amount of machines is definitely worth it. Plus, you get access to all of their facilities which is a great convenience. read more

I've been to MANY gyms in the past years, as I have been forced to be on the road quite a bit. So, I was happy to know that I would be in one place for a good amount of time. I currently have three active gym memberships, but none of the gyms are convenient. This gym shares a parking lot with the Medical College, where I have to be everyday. So, it was super convenient. I normally go to the gym around 5 AM, and it is surprisingly busy at that time. However, I've always gotten on the equipment that I wanted without waiting. The one time that I went later, which was a weekend, it was also busy, but I still did not have to wait. The gym is clean and the members seem to practice good gym etiquette. The things that I really like about this gym: 1) Opens early. 2) Provides small workout towels. 3) Provides big shower towels. 4) Lockers are big enough to fit all of my crap in. 5) The showers have enough room to bring belongings in and hang them on the door without risking getting them wet. 6) The locker room is spacious and they provide amenities in the event that a member forgets something (cotton swabs, deodorant, shaving cream, hairspray, etc.). 7) It is well lit and clean. 8) There is a large parking lot, so finding a spot is never a problem. 9) My e-mail has not been flooded with stupid e-mails from this place. 10) There are television screens on a decent amount of the cardio equipment. 11) There is quite a bit of cardio equipment, and it is very rare that any of it is out of order. Things that could be better: 1) I'm a poor student. I think there should be a better student rate. 2) Although I don't swim when I go to the gym, the day that I went to buy my membership the pool was closed......Somebody pooped in it and it had to be drained, cleaned, and filled back up. I'm not holding that against the place, but it is kind of gross. 3) If I got to the gym any later, I would have to wait for a shower. People are usually waiting for showers when I am blowdrying my hair and getting ready. All in all, this is one of the better gyms that I have been to. Although there is no good student discount, the normal monthly fee is not unreasonable, and is actually lower than most of the places I've been to. I like this gym and will be sad when I have to make my next move. read more

WACs are pretty much the same, but they all have their defining features. For the Wauwatosa location, their assets are definitely the pool and the basketball courts. And they have so much more space than, say, the downtown location. Everything feels very open and bright, which is a great atmosphere in which to work out. WACs in general are fantastic. Great trainers, a crazy amount of classes (which WAC members can take at any location), and different assets at their many locations (for example, the downtown location has an indoor track) make it one of the best, if not the best, gym in the city. read more

The WAC is the greatest fitness facility that I've ever belonged to. It's clean, well staffed and there are plenty of machines so there isn't much wait time. They are continually updating the machines over time as well. I really appreciate the towel service, you don't have to bring your own lock and they have plenty of toiletries if you need to get ready after. Sauna, pools and steam rooms are also a huge plus. All of the included classes are very taught and enjoyable! Highly recommend this gym. read more

So far so good. I joined WAC yesterday and have, so far, been extremely pleased with my decision. The biggest selling point for me was the location of each branch. I work in downtown Milwaukee and live in Tosa. Whether I'm at work or at home I'm within walking distance of my gym. The location in Tosa is perfect, it's small, homey, and not overcrowded. The weight area has everything you could need (free weights and machines), there is an adult only pool for laps and a jacuzzi, cheap tanning (about $20 a month) and a spa. The staff are quick to help and don't waste your time with a lot of "gym talk". The bathrooms are extremely clean and well maintained (and include a steam room and a sauna). I've always hated joining new gyms and having the staff "oversell" their facility. I said I wanted to join, they asked if I'd like a tour and I said "no". They gave me the paperwork, explained it briefly, I signed and paid and was on my way. Perfect. Like I said I've only been a member for one day, but this gym is more perfect than anything I could have hoped for. I can't wait to get off work.... read more

I am a member at the WAC. Normally, I'm happy with the club but today is July 17, 2019 and the steam room has been out of operation since April. As a dues paying member I find this to be unacceptable. Update: It's now Aug. 7 and the steam room is still out of operation. read more

First of all, I had been a member before. After my lackluster experience at a different facility, I went back to the WAC. This is why I will stay. Contact Cardio Kickboxing, a.k.a. Ringside. Best. Class. Ever. I have gone to the classes of a few different instructors, and my favorite is Sean's class. I call him "The Professor," albeit not to his face, but he is so very informative about each move and detailed in the execution. He has studied with martial artists and you feel like you could actually use these moves out in the world, although you'd hope not to. His class is a total workout and is my favorite. Also, the staff at the WAC treat you like a real person when you come in, not a hindrance. The Front Desk staff is very friendly, especially Judy in the PM. She's awesome, friendly and was very encouraging to me when I told her I was training for my first 10k. These things are important to members such as myself. Now, the WAC is a tad pricey, but it's worth it, and you get what you pay for! I'll pay for awesome, thanks! read more

In 2005 I signed up for a triathlon clinic offered by the Wisconsin Athletic Club. At the time I was a non-member, so this was my first exposure to the WAC. The training program was well-structured, the coaches were knowledgeable and friendly, and the gym facilities were wonderful. So when I moved to Wauwatosa in 2007, I became a member of the 'Tosa WAC, and I've been pleased to be a member since. The 'TOSA WAC is large and chock-full of well-maintained equipment for both my cardiovascular and strength training regimens. I'm able to work out 7 days a week without falling into the grind, as it's easy to introduce some change and novelty into my workouts with all of the selection. Group exercise classes are always well-run, and it's easy to check availability and sign up. The equipment for these is largely well-maintained and refreshed every couple of years. The instructors are professional and energetic, and only occasionally seem to do silly things like an all-Bon-Jovi-music spin class. The lap pool is large enough for good workouts, and there are plenty of times throughout the day when lanes are available. There is a completely separate pool for non-lap swimming, which hosts group classes, swim lessons, and the like. And there is a large, wonderful hot tub for when your workout strains you a bit too much. The locker rooms are large and clean, and only tend to get crowded at peak times. Lockers are provided, as are basic toiletries, and all the locker rooms have balance scales for checking your progress. As a WAC member, you also get access to the other WAC locations - though most of them are smaller than the Wauwatosa WAC. So the space and equipment variety suffer a bit at some of the other locations. But overall this is a great benefit, as I can sneak in a workout no matter where I find myself in the Milwaukee/Waukesha area during my workday. My only real frustration with the 'Tosa WAC is that it can get busy. Peak times are peak times, and you'll feel it, as this location serves the Medical College of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital campuses. During the winter snow is plowed into many of the parking spaces, reducing capacity. And for a period following New Year's Day, this can all get a little maddening, until people resume their lazy lifestyles and abandon their resolutions. Then it calms down again. But overall I have truly enjoyed my membership at the WAC, and plan to maintain it. So get moving! And check out the Wisconsin Athletic Club in Wauwatosa. read more

Push it bro! Don't be intimidated by the handful of trainers that look like extras from the latest Hans and Franz commercials. Those peeps are freaks. Thankfully, the vast majority of the patrons here are serious, motivated people working toward some personal goal. I started at one of those 24/7 shoebox gyms offering convienience over outcomes. I dropped some weight, gained some muscle, but became bored after 6 months. There was just not enough to do there. My wife had been working out at the WAC for about a year and had great things to say about it. Her results were amazing. Why was she able to stay focused and achieve great results? She had help, she hired a trainer. About three months ago, I joined her pain train. I work out with Jeremy once a week and as much as I don't look forward to the pain and stiffness that comes afterwards, I do enjoy the knowledge and guidance that I get during our sessions. Jeremy, like all of the trainers here are professionals. They ask what your goals are, assess what your weaknesses are, and develope a training plan to suit you. I have a bad back that likes to snap out of line from time to time. My PT focuses on exercises that will strengthen my back while giving proper instruction on correct technique and form. He is positive without being patronizing, motivating without being unrealistic. Sure, there is an additional cost to a PT, but if you are serious about actually achieving your goal this time, it's worth it! But wait there's more! - Daily Spin, Yoga, Pilaties, and Zumba classes. All including in your membership! - two pools and a hot tub! - extremely limited kiddie time! - more different types of aerobic equipment than you can find anywhere else. - free deodorant and hair spray in the locker rooms! (ok, maybe not a big deal) - friendly employees - available group training classes (at an extra charge) - large locker rooms. One of them featuring an abundance of old naked dudes. I swear these guys just hang out there. Don't they have have showers at home? - lots of fellow Yelpers! In short, the WAC is a great place to get or stay in shape if you are serious. If you can't achieve your goals here, it's not their fault! read more

The fact that the owners of the WAC have posted no statement to contain and prevent the spread of coronavirus at their clubs speaks very poorly of them. Some sort of adaptation should have been made by this point, especially for those over 60 who are members, who are at greater risk for contracting it. Why not allow those who are over, say, 55, to discontinue their membership for a month or longer, if necessary, without fees being applied? What measures, if any, are being taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus at their clubs? Are insides and outsides of lockers being daily cleaned? Are surfaces, doorknobs, and handles being continually cleaned with disinfectants during the day? Are keys which are handled by many members, being sanitized after they are used by members? It's an ok gym and considering how much you pay for a monthly membership it isn't worth it. The machines are newer, but so are most gyms and it seems like these the TVs are frequently broken. I wouldn't say the staff is friendly because most times it seemed like I was invisible to them if I needed help or had a question. The staff was usually busy talking to other staff members or people they were interested in. Lastly I was supposed to get an introductory training session on how to use the machines and judge fitness level that I wasn't informed about until later and when they brought it up they kind of turned their palms up and were like "oh well". I've been a regular member of this club for over 10 years, and I rate it four and 1/2 stars. The staff are extremely helpful and hard working at the front desk, and on the floor. (Especially the younger guys cleaning up the locker room etc. Thanks!) Things are straightened, towels replenished etc. Showers are excellent. There is a nice sauna and a steam room (I don't use the pool). About a year ago they replaced all equipment in the exercise area. And they continually put in new exercise machines. One factor that has positively contributed to this club is it is located across from the Medical School and hospital. I believe the students and doctors are very responsible members (they don't scream, take up space, etc.) The negatives are: NOISE level is high. Music is too loud, and one Zumba instructor plays LOUD, LOUD music. Yo - we get your enthusiasm as well as the weight-lifters grunting. But how about consideration for others? And sometimes people disturb you with their cell phones (but there's not much the WAC can do about this issue). Parking is an issue, especially at peak times during the days. Crowding inside the club is only a problem during the months of January - April. I wish they would ventilate the shower area in the summer months (large fans?). And I wish they wouldn't close at 2 PM on holidays (I recall they closed all day last Christmas). In sum it's a great club with just a few minor flaws JUST DO IT. read more

I go to the WAC (Wisconsin Athletic Club) in Wauwatosa to work out two or three times a week. I also work out at other clubs/workout facilities, including the YMCA and the Marquette High School Fitness Center. The WAC is an excellent workout facility that you should go to because of the variety of workout classes/styles, the staff, and the cleanliness and organization. The WAC has different classes and styles that fit everyone's needs, which is why you should go there to work out. They have pilates, for those who are interested in Pilates, and a Pilates reformer machine. If you are interested in free weights, they have two sets of free weights for every weight up to one hundred pounds, and eight squat racks and four bench presses. Also, if cardio is your thing, there are at least 30 treadmills, 5 rowing machines, stair-stepping machines, Jacob's ladders, and many others. Dance classes and yoga classes are also part of the WAC. As one can see, there are many options for classes and fitness. Another reason to go to the WAC is because of its staff. Every time I enter the WAC, I am greeted by two friendly people who welcome me, ask how my day is, and then check me in. One time I was running on the treadmill during the packer game and an employee came up to me and talked to me about the game while I was running. Also, there are personal trainers available if you need someone to teach you when you work out. Every personal trainer is very outgoing and knows a lot about what they are doing. They treat you the same no matter if it is your first time lifting weights, or if you have been lifting for a long time. The staff at the WAC are just one reason that you should go there. Cleanliness and organization are also part of the reason to go to the WAC. When you are lifting free weights they are always in the right spot, which is nice because you don't have to go hunting for weights. Also, everybody is required after they are done with a machine to wipe the machine down with spray and a towel. This keeps the machines clean and hygienic. Lastly, there is always someone vacuuming, or cleaning up towels. Because of its workout classes, staff, and cleanliness, you should go to the WAC in Wauwatosa. read more

Went to the West Allis WAC for the first time today. The front desk person who helped me was Tim, and he did a fantastic job of welcoming me and showing me around. Very kind and full of knowledge. I used the pool during an open swim and was pleased to see that the whole pool area is clean and the pool itself was just the right temperature. I love the WAC. Everyone is so friendly and you never feel judged. They've got a giant selection of classes at all hours during the week, it's hard not to want to go work out. Haha! I've been a member of the WAC for about three years, and want to quick say that the majority of the staff are very friendly and helpful. (especially the staff at the waukesha location) The Wauwatosa front desk staff I have had a few issues with when it came to scheduling a massage appointment (they forgot to schedule it) as well as they sometimes seem too preoccupied to pay close attention to the customers. There's times when there's a lot of guests coming up to the desk and only one staff member...who tries to help everybody at once instead of asking for help, or concentrating on one guest at a time. While I haven't worked out here at the Wauwatosa WAC, I have had numerous massages here and will continue to go back. (my review for this location is on the massages)... Andrea is my favorite massage therapist. I came to her for about a months' time every other week to work on some major knots in my back and even after the first session you could feel and notice a huge improvement. (you do get a $10 discount if you're a member). She pays close attention to your requests and does a fantastic job with technique and pressure. I've been to this location for massages I'd say roughly about ten times give or take, and only once did I have a massage that wasn't pleasant. (Jen) The therapist seemed to be anxious to get the massage done and over with. I went in for a 1/2 hr massage, and it seemed like it was cut short. Also the pressure was very light, even after asking for more pressure. It wasn't relaxing at all because her movements didn't flow, she was jumping around from different areas of the back, to the arms and back again and wasn't really working out the knots. There was one session where next door to the massage rooms a spin class or cardio class of sorts was going on and their music was sooo loud! (my therapist asked for them to turn their music down but it didn't help much) read more
