Sept 2025, furnace & A/C installation went very well. Asked to sign up for annual service package. My wife and I both were told that we had been signed up. April 19 2026 I call to schedule a safety check-up, we were told that we had not signed up. OK, called our original salesman to sign up. Since then we have called him multiple times, left voice messages text messages and talked directly to him. It is June 2, 2026 still not signed up. Call Total Comfort office to sign up. The heating and cooling "2 full comprehensive manufacturer recommended safety & maintenance tune-ups" are once a year service. One for the furnace and one for the A/C which must be done at the same time. I was not an English major but I find this highly misleading. Am I wrong? Wouldn't "annual check up of both units" be a far more honest summary of their offering? We had no complaints about the initial installation read more

The technicians are great. What is NOT great is that they give you NO idea of what time of day that might show up. You literally could wait ALL day! They could at least give a 4 hour window time frame. Very frustrating from a customer viewpoint! For that reason only, no 5 star review. read more

March 2025 Spent $17K on new boiler and $20K on new minisplits. Only reason why I went with company is sales person said they could install on other side of house. Other company said they could not. And of course day of install they said they couldn't put on the desired side of house and now blocks a basement window and is an eyesore. Felt deceived. Minisplits Has not worked since install. Worked for maybe a day and then got errors. Multiple scheduled appointments and they rescheduled a few times. Interrupting work and wasted time. Said it was fix and still is not. Questioning quality of install. Leaning outdoor unit. Indoor units close to ceiling. Lines and power ran poorly in basement. Now questioning if boiler was done correctly or if it was even needed. House was 92+ degF during this weekend. I had to go to another person's house. Also, 2025. I asked about a wifi option after the fact (my fault). I received no response. Had to buy separate devices to make them wifi. Came with remotes from 1980s. Equipment seems old and outdated. Cannot say I'd recommend. We will see if anything gets fixed and I will edit rating. Concerned about main room not cooling properly which defeats the whole purpose. People were decent. Disappointed in quality. read more

Stay away from this company, they are rip off artists! Total Comfort used to be a reputable company. They installed my furnace and air conditioner several years ago and I was impressed with them. Have had them out each Fall for a furnace tune up. Last year the tech said the control board was questionable and would need to be replaced soon for $1200. This Fall another tech came out for the furnace tune up and said the control board is fine. He then proceeded to tell me the combustion chamber was cracked and should be replaced for $2000 and the blower motor had dust build up on the vanes and needed cleaning for a steep charge. I declined both services and then he tried to sell me a $190 carbon monoxide detector even though I have two new detectors in the house. I contacted an expert HVAC guy who I know has had many years of experience and teaches HVAC at a tech college. He came out and and did a video camera look at the inside and outside of the combustion chamber and analyzed the the exhaust of the furnace and determined that the combustion chamber is fine, no leaks. The dust in the blower fan is so minuscule it has no effect on the blower efficiency and the control board is fine. Stay away from this company. They are rip off artists!! read more

this company is horrible!!! I had an appt on Thursday May 22 for my a/c repair. No show I sat around all day for nothing and took the day off of work. Had to reschedule for Thursday May 29th for 8am to noon. the tech showed up at 2pm. I took the day off for this appt as well. after being here for 4 hours the tech couldn't finish the repair because they sent him the wrong part Wow i will never use them again. of course i can't reach the service manager. read more

Charged my credit card prior to service. Would only quote a total fee of $1,500. I asked for a breakdown of that amount. I was told by the tech and by the office person that "that is just how we do it, no breakdown of costs". I called back to cancel the contract and asked for refund. That was when the office person magically came up with an exact figure of costs. Then the next day I see $299.30 had been taken from my bank account. This was not in the contract as No Work Had Been Done. And the service tech initial call was only $99. And the $1,500 was just to replace a coil. The coil part was under parts warranty. So, wow, $500 an hour labor charge. I just want my $1,500 back into my bank account. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK! And I would give this company no stars. cant speak to the quality of their work as I didn't use them. BUT, very disappointed with the marketing tactics. While in Home Depot (in Chaska, MN) I was cornered by a salesperson who told me of a promotion they had through July 31st. Buy an AC unit and get a FREE furnace. (pay for the installation.) I thought it sounded too good to be true, but signed up for a consultation. The next day a rep from Total Comfort came out. Looked at our current equipment, which is all working fine, but older. He asked what I was interested in and I shared the promotion I was told about at HD. He said, oh, that's not accurate. They will give you $1,100 off the price of the furnace (which is 16-20K.) which is far from free. (again, I thought it was too good to be true.) So I politely asked the rep to leave. He was kind, so no issues with him. Just disappointed in the bait-and-switch approach. All the marketing materials left (for when I am ready to do service or upgrade) went into the trash. I won't give anyone my business that has those tactics. read more

Don't recommend using this company as they are going to rip you off. They came for a tune up and mentioned that they need to change the capacitor and charged 20 times more than the part costs. Cost of the part is less than 15 dollars in Amazon and they are charging 289 dollars. Be cautious if they say that they need to change something. read more

They also charged me for everything, the furnace, AC, and installation immediately even though the work was scheduled 3 months in the future- they were "busy" until then. Total Comfort never returned, as promised, they were supposed to check the pressure in my New AC. Never did, I had another HVAC service do that. read more

We have absolutely enjoyed our experience with Total Comfort. I was approached by someone at Home Depot who was incredibly kind and professional letting me know they have some deals going on and are offering free quotes. We just bought a house and I know our Furnace has never been replaced (1974 original). From every phone conversation, to the gentleman from Total Comfort who showed up for to provide quote, we were blown away. Steve was awesome and incredibly informative when walking us through the potential quote and details. The deals were great so we decided we would go ahead and replace Furnace & AC. We really trusted them and love that they are backed by Home Depot. When the techs came out for replacements they were awesome to work with and professional, they even laid down covering on the floor/stairs. After installation, Ryan Billy spent about 45 minutes walking us through and educating us on the new units. We are thrilled. I was having issues with my basement not heating as well as my main floor. My neighbor referred Total Comfort to me. Scott Horn came out and inspected my furnace and informed me that it had dampers that weren't working properly. He was very knowledgeable and patient explaining how my system works and the options to fix the issue. I will continue to do business with them in the future. read more

The person who came over was professional and restored a functioning ACCOUNT by giving me a few different options. Although long term, all 15 year old appliances need to be replaced-he added Freon for the time being. Two weeks and lots of heater later-it is doing a great job. Signed up for a promotion at the Washington County Fair. Total Comfort was offering $89 for a combined AC/Furnace Tune-Up Service. They were there next to the bingo booth, at the Total Comfort Trailer, with Home Depot logos adorning the trailer as well. The rep said this was a better deal than in store, where Home Depot was offering AC or Furnace Tune-Up Service for $89 + 3 free filters. The Washington County Fair Deal by Total Comfort, as Debbie explained, was $89 total for both AC and Furnace, but no free filters. This was certainly better than $89 per, so we signed up. I have a yellow receipt they gave me and a date of service. They never showed up, which prompted me to call. When I got a hold of the rep, I was told that they needed to charge me $129 and would not honor the $89 Fair Special. I protested and was promised a call from their manager. That call never came. Stopped by Home Depot today, to see if a manager there could help me with my issue. They keyed into the system the same deal as the fair, + free filters and said a Total Comfort Rep would call me soon. They did, but was only going to service one or the other for $89. I called the Home Depot Manager back and he is calling Total Comfort to see how he can help. At this point, I do not even know if I want this company in my house. Total called back just now and said they will honor the Fair special. The call was short, to the point, and offered no apology or explanation regarding the sudden change of heart. A date is set, but I am still a little reluctant at this moment about letting them near our home... Will have to think on this... read more

I recently had to replace the furnace and cooling system in my home. I spoke with many reputable companies in the west Minneapolis metro area. After speaking with several companies and researching online, it became very clear to me that the install of the furnace is equally important to the brand being installed. I made the decision to go with Total Comfort after meeting Andy, the Sales Consultant from Total Comfort. I spent a lot of time with Andy discussing airflow issues with our current system. Andy took time to closely review our current system and made several recommendations to improve the airflow in our home. Andy took time to help me understand how the current issues could be easily resolved. Total Comfort's quote was very competitive, and the purchase process was quick and easy. Andy worked with my family's schedule to plan the install. Keith, from Total Comfort, led the installation of the new furnace and A/C system. Keith and his team were very professional, friendly, and willing to answer any of my questions. As indicated, the install took a full day. At the end of a long day, Keith took time to review the work completed to ensure all my questions were answered and that I was satisfied with the job. Same story as others, my credit card was charged for their recurring annual service prior to receipt of the service. I asked for the charge to be reversed and to remove us from the program on July 5th, and it has not yet occurred. When I called to folow up today on July 19th, I was told they would initiate it with billing as I can't speak to the billing dept. directly and that a refund could take a few weeks. SCAM! Had a guy come out because some heat vents were blowing cool air. He was here for over 3 hours and said he didn't know what was wrong, possibly a zoning issue, but he promised that someone would call me the next day with ideas. It has been 2 weeks and I never got a call. I called today because I wanted an explanation for why I was not called and a refund of the $100 I paid the guy to do NO work and give me a false promise. One of their service managers today told me that they had on record from 2009 when my new furnace was installed that there was indeed a zoning issue. And I can't be mad that nothing was fixed because "Well he was a tech guy not a service guy so he couldn't have done anything anyway... " OK so you had ON RECORD the whole time that there was a zoning issue, yet you sent a tech over anyway when you KNEW what the problem was and knew that he was not qualified to fix it?! And now they want to send in the service guy who installed my furnace in the first place so he can look at it. Absolutely not. Why didn't you send him the first time? Why did you make me pay for a tech who couldn't do anything? Because TC wants to suck as much money out of you as possible. I have been a loyal customer for 15 years. Had Total Comfort quote a new furnace and a/c. Liked their salesman and all that they stood for but had a more competitive quote. The quote they provided included a price match guarantee. The competitive quote met every requirement noted in their price match guarantee so I asked them to honor it. It has now been 6 days and they have not communicated with me. I am not impressed nor do I understand why they offer a guarantee that they don't stand behind. read more

We had our heating system installed by Total Comfort in 2012 through their arrangement with Home Depot. We were told at the time that we had a 5 year warranty on service and a 10 year warranty on parts. I made a service call in early January 2017 when our furnace was not working, and made sure to clarify with them on the phone that the work would be covered under warranty. The tech was very friendly, professional, and did a thorough job, but ended up doing a tune-up without first asking for my permission or consent. I was quoted a price of $149 (later dropped to $99) when, again, I expected the work to be covered under warranty. Rather than haggling with a stranger in my home, I paid the fee and took it up with management. They forced me to call several times and delayed a response for over a month. They seemed to acknowledge the fact that the average person would not have the background to know the point at which it turned from a service to a maintenance call (particularly since this was never explained or communicated to me in any way), and yet refused to refund my $99. I find this particularly ironic in light of the statement on their bill that reads "You always know what our charges will be before we perform the work." That is the exact opposite of what happened here. Rather than acknowledging their mistake and refunding the charge made to me in error, they offered a discounted rate on a preferred customer plan. I will obviously have no need for this because I will never do business with them again. They essentially robbed me of $99. I am certain that they do not care that they are losing me as a customer. For the sake of fellow consumers, please make sure that they thoroughly outline their charges BEFORE the work is done, in writing, and sign that this is the amount you will be paying. This is what they promise in writing, in theory, but in practice is the exact opposite of my experience with them. Buyer beware. read more
