When I bought my house back in October, by November I immediately started having issues with the furnace. I called Ken and he immediately sent someone out since I had no heat. Furnace installed in 2020 January 2021 a hole in the foundation was found and they came out and admitted the insulation was never completed. Supplies were on back order as well as an air seal and rim joice . June 2021 the A/C failed they were called and came out. Admitted to miswiring the A/C at the time of installation. Made futile attempts to fix it. Then after all that claimed I needed a new A/C. They sent an estimate. Called another company who then fixed the wiring and it's been fine ever since!! Despite numerous attempts for them to complete insulation they have never responded. read more

It really amazes me that Ken has such good reviews, when my experience with him was finding him a fraud and price gouger. I am a care giver of a NOW 93 year old parent. On a Saturday of November 24, 2018 Mr. Kalke came to our home for a seized heat inducer. The failure began on the prior early Friday evening. Ken was the first to respond to my messages left to several technicians early the following AM of that Saturday morning for a failed heat inducer. So I went forth with him. I was impressed with his quick response and with the way he presented himself. When he arrived at our home, I was as well impressed with his presentation and felt very comfortable with him. His diagnosis was a failed heat inducer. Ken then went to his vehicle, made a few calls, came back through the door, gave us a price of possibly $500 plus for the Job, as I understood it. He stated that we needed to make a decision, as the parts store closes early on Saturday. The temps were cold out side, we were already @ 64 degrees in the house. So we were had with our backs against the wall. The conversation then began, of course, that the furnace was at an age to be considered replacing. We had already been through a NYSERDA inspection through a prior local outfit concerning this just months earlier, which we did not opt for. At $500 plus for repairs, you then begin to have to consider the investment... Maybe it's time to replace the furnace... The sales pitch begins... You're then asked what is the age of your Air conditioning unit? You are then taken down a path of what you can save if you have them replaced at the same time... Ken explained that, although the price of the heat inducer replacement may "seem" expensive, HE would be able to "build" that price in to the replacement price of the furnace/AC, through the NYSERDA Program, and that we would be able to get 50%, if not 75% BACK, from the price he was charging us 11/24/18 for his services to replace a heat inducer. Sounds Great!! We're Cold!! Come back on Monday to follow through with what you've presented to us verbally. Sounds Great. His $500 plus, turned into $654.48. It took him literally 20 minutes in actual labor. GOOGLE HOW TO REPLACE A HEAT INDUCER. Monday came. The numbers came. When he was asked to put his estimate in writing, for him to explain where these numbers were coming from; a break down of what WE were actually paying for, vs. WHERE the NYSERDA Program was being applied, IT ALL FELL APART, and he rather became frustrated and resented being asked for a breakdown of it. Much like the prior outfit not mentioned here. So I began to call different HVAC Services, quotes and such. What I found was that my mother was not getting really any benefit from the NYSERDA Program AT ALL, and that out fits such as this were BEEFING up the numbers, and, in effect, pocketing for Them Selves, and taking advantage of a program that was put in place for obvious reason. Finding this TWICE, going through the TIME out of your day to accomplish evaluations and having to reveal very PERSONAL information, was, well, I'm just going to say it, "It pisses me off that people get away with this, and they do it every day to people that are unaware of so many things". My final conversation with MR. KALKE was that I felt he took advantage of my mother concerning what he charged my mother for the heat inducer, while AFTER the fact of all of this, without explaining my current experience with Total Comfort to any other contractor I contacted, the quoted price to replace a heat inducer was in the $450 range. Ken argued it. I argued back. End point was that he felt it was unfortunate that I "felt" this way, and that he would have TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF US concerning the installation of a new Furnace/AC... AMANA Mr. Kalke came in to our home, and presented his very long resume of his work experience with various and prestigious HVAC Local Companies. I've spoken to them... Going back to the "REFUND" on the heat inducer, we didn't get it, because "WE FAILED" to go forth with him concerning the replacement of the furnace/AC through his NYSERDA Application and Estimate. October 29, 2020, the heat inducer replaced by Ken Kalke, November 24, 2018, failed. 2 years old. It was replaced w/ OEM parts, purchased my self from a local dealer for $199.99 + tax. Top price from Grainger was $282. My current HVAC assisted me with finding this purchase. It took him 20 minutes to install it. I can't even express how thankful I am for him. I would love to hear Ken Kalke respond to this, when I've got the numbers of WHAT he did that day of November 24, 2018, and then going forth. Go ahead Ken, explain and respond to your promised reviews. Explain $624.48 for a heat inducer. Grainger CURRENTLY sells it for $282. Explain why you charged my 90 year old mother TWICE the price back then and on that day, and then your NYSERDA SUPPOSED DISCOUNT. I'd love to here it. read more

I'm an HVAC/R Service Technician of which while I was out of work recently recovering from having my Left Hip Replacement, I decided to have Total Comfort do our NYSERDA Assessment. I know there's a couple of shady Companies out there of which will try and sell you, the customer, things you'll not need etc. Total Comfort does not fall into that category. Total Comfort is owned by Ken Kalke he portrays himself with showing that he Honestly Cares while promoting Outstanding Leadership Skills, and the Companies Business Ethics are Spot On. We had Total Comfort do our NYSERDA Assessment, no issues with over spray from the foam sealing, had all air sealing and 14" of blown in insulation installed in our attic. Everyone cleaned up everything when they were done with their job, even vacuumed. The Office Staff are very Welcoming over the phone, you can tell they are genuinely smiling on the other end of the call, they portray themselves with having a caring and compassionate way while maintaining Pride and Professionalism. Since having the rim joists foam sealed, adding the right amount of insulation in our attic, our home maintains the heat properly, also we qualified to replace our light bulbs to LED's, a Carbon Monoxide detector was installed along with a new Smoke Alarm. If you're looking at lowering your monthly Heating and Cooling bills, or are needing your furnace/boiler or air conditioner maintained annually, and furthermore would like to replace your huge conventional hot water tank with a Top of the Line high efficiency tankless water heater, give Total Comfort a call.
