Unprofessional and disappointing experience. I scheduled an appointment here a week in advance for a double service: a haircut and bleach treatment. On the day of my appointment, while I was already on my way to the salon, I received a call from the receptionist informing me that my appointment was being canceled last minute. Instead of offering a solution or urgency in rebooking, I was told it would be another two weeks before I could be scheduled for the same service. The only compromise offered was to split the services -- haircut one week, color the next -- which was not ideal, nor what I had booked or planned for. It was implied that the cancellation was due to my stylist calling out, and while no direct explanation was given, it happened to be the day after what I believe was their birthday -- which raises questions about the level of professionalism and planning. If something unavoidable came up, I would have appreciated an honest explanation and a sincere effort to accommodate me promptly--especially since I had already made arrangements and was en route. At the time I was working 70 hours a week and I specifically took time out of my workday to go do this seeing as I had no free time. To make matters worse, I later received an automated confirmation for an appointment I never scheduled or approved, which only added to the confusion. The stylists here are also the owners, Patrick and Kevin, which makes the lack of communication and client care even more frustrating. 2nd Visit 12/23/15: Editing review to accurately reflect the core stylists team and exceptional color and cuts they deliver. Ben, Managing Partner, called me back first thing the next morning to apologize and extend an offer to return to the salon to fix my hair. Seems the stylist I had was new- first day at salon. I was a bit hesitant, however I recalled during the three hours there that first day, the stylist in the corner was doing a terrific job on whoever sat in her chair. I was a bit envious. When Ben said she would be fixing my hair, I accepted the offer. Chrissy was amazing. She made me feel comfortable, at ease, assured me she can repair my color and cut, and included a complimentary hair repair infusion. (Chrissy also shaped my brows.) It took a few hours but the end result was a great cut and color. Ben reimbursed what I paid and apologized again. No hard feelings. I was grateful for their willingness to fix my hair and happy with a great new look to rock for the holidays. I want to give kudos to the core stylist team there. I had my consultation, showed a picture of what I prefer, described what color and highlight I am looking for. Stylist shared his thoughts and ideas and what he will do. I said okay and that I trust him. Started the process at 12:20p and left around 3:20p. Highlights were turning green, so some bleach mixture was applied. Once he washed out my hair, it was a bright brassy blond. Toner was applied to tone that down since I said I do not want blond hair. More time spent with toner, washed it out, and not sure what color to call it. Cut was done in 10-15 minutes, blow dried, hand tossed, and left to me to tame al the fly-aways. I just pulled it back with a headband. End result is that whatever coloring product used at the Paul Mitchell salon I last had my hair done, did not interact well with the products at this salon. The mahogany base color with caramel honey highlights and great shiny smooth cut I usually get was not what I left with. Paid $210! ($145 base w/partial + $65 lady's full experience haircut) and walked out with dull greyish greenish technicolor choppy highlighted short fly-away hair. I never paid that much, ever...not even in Chicago or Charlotte. It was when I walked through the door at my sons home that everyone freaked. I hate feeling embarrassed. Everyone made a big fuss about it. I said I will wait a bit to see how it settles. They said I need to ask for my money back and have them fix it. Ouch! I would honestly give them no stars if it was possible! I went in to get a simple Balayage! This was the day before my birthday. When I sat down in the chair I was told that it was not possible to get to the color I wanted today I said that was fine just do what ever you can. I got to my appointment at 2pm and did not leave the salon till almost 9pm! When I say bleach was left on my hair for almost 3 hours I'm not kidding! It WAS! Especially certain strands of hair. she gave me a quote of $600 for my hair I thought that was a little pricy but I was already there and just wanted to get my hair done. By the end of my appointment somehow my total went up to $1,000 dollars! I paid over $1,000 dollars for my hair and then about 2 weeks later my hair started falling out in clumps! I had long THICK GORGEOUS HAIR! So I normally wait a week to wash it which I did then that following week my hair started falling out in clumps! At the moment I didn't think much of it because sometimes my hair does lose some strands of hair. But it kept going! To the point I booked an appointment to get my hair treated by a different salon in town. I went to that salon and was told my hair had been chemically burnt off. And is chemically compromised! at this point I was shocked! She did a treatment on my hair and I had to cut off 3 inches. That day after I went to the salon in town I called the other salon(Total hair Experience) and told them what I had been told, I asked to be refunded I did not want to go back to this salon after what they did to my hair. And they told me that was not possible due to me not contacting them within the 10 day love your hair policy! The guy on the phone only offered for me to come in and get a treatment and to go from there. I absolutely turned it down and said no. He then proceeded to tell me that he talked with the young lady that did my hair and she said she did not leave bleach on that Long and that my hair could be falling out due to a normal cycle that hair goes through. he then proceeded to ask me if I use a lot of heat on my hair. I said no I use the same amount of heat I was using before! which for 21 years of my life I have used heat on my hair and it has NEVER FALLEN OUT LIKE THIS! he continued to tell me he is not able to do anything for me expect that treatment. Honestly I just felt I really needed to write this review I am not one to start controversy I hate it so that's why I stayed quite for so long! TOTAL WORST EXPERIENCE Hair Salon, I went in to Bryan to get partial blonde highlights and came out with all over orange highlights. I called and went by and spoke to owner, Patrick. He refused to help me even after he said my hair didn't look good, and he refused to refund me because I didn't get by within 10 days, phone calls did not matter to him because he said he did not get the message. So, let me start out by saying, my experience at T.H.E. was not great. I had been there before but this time (after over 3 hours) I left sore, exhausted, and scalding mad. There were some communication issues related to billing and services and some issues with the way my bangs were cut. When I got home, I was HOT with anger. I felt very much over billed and slightly taken advantage of. I called and left word to have the manager, Melody, return my call. She did and was patient and professional, despite my very obvious anger. She explained the itemization and billing. I insisted on a partial refund and she said that was not their policy (understandably so) but that she did not want me to be unhappy and offered me a credit for the services I was not aware of when I returned for my next service. I feel this was fair and, in hindsight, very much appreciate her accommodation. Now, in regards to my hair cut and partial highlight... ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I have never received so many compliments for a hair cut/style and I have had MANY. People cannot stop telling me how awesome it looks. It is also the EASIEST style I have ever had to manage. Fast drying and I have never been able to get my extremely thick and wavy hair so straight. The partial highlights are natural-looking and it looks amazing with my angular face shape, an issue I can rarely get addressed with a stylist successfully. CELESTE is the only stylist I have ever seen here and I will not see anyone else going forward. T.H.E. clearly values loyalty and knows what they are doing. I will ABSOLUTELY be returning and recommend CELESTE (and all of their staff) for anyone looking to get something amazing done for their hair. read more

Upgrade your hairstylist! I've found Bryan at this salon *loves* working with pixies and fun cuts. He's given me an undercut/shavie on one side of my head, knows how to cut curls, is helping me grow my pixie, has done a wonderful job at helping keep the bulk out of my hair, and is just fun to talk to. My boyfriend and I are new to the area and booked appointments here based on positive Yelp reviews plus its close proximity to home. When we arrived I realized I had seen this place in the strip mall while dropping off dry cleaning next door. I remembered at the time thinking how beautiful it was. We both had appointments with Gretchen, one after the other, and we crossed our fingers, having both had previous negative experiences at other salons. Well, not only was she a lovely person, but I got the best hair cut I have had in years!! She listened to my needs and addressed some problem areas created by a bad prior cut. She explained that she'd need to take off more than I wanted in order to get the shape back to normal and I gladly agreed since I felt like I could trust her. My hair is bouncy and happy and the shape is amazing. My boyfriend's hair also came out so perfect. I used to work in a salon so I was watching her technique and she did a wonderful job shaping his hair for max handsomeness. :) The cuts were so affordable too! $40 for me and $20 for him. Very modern salon with friendly professionals. Since the stylist that cut my hair the first time left they sent me a $50 coupon which is something most Salons don't do. Got my hair done 2 days ago by Celest & she was very nice & comfortable to talk to. She actually listens to your needs which is rare in my opinion. Their staff is up to date on all the latest hair trends as well with fair pricing. I've been to Salons where it's a dump & they charge more than this place. I won't be back to this salon. My hair came out yellow and they CHARGED me to fix it 5 days later. The adjustment was not free and my hair is still a balayage, see photos. No lowlights were applied, albeit if that was what was required to fix the yellow in my hair it should not have been an additional charge. Fortunately lowlights weren't necessary to fix the yellow. Why would anyone want to put their hair through the damage of bleach only to cover it up? I showed the stylist the same photos on the initial visit as the follow up visit. The stylist used an inferior quality color line, the only line this salon carries, than what his former salon carried and since my hair was still damp when I left neither he nor I knew how yellow my hair was. He knew I shouldn't have been charged further and tried to refuse my tip. The only reason I received the additional charge was because I did not have cash on me and I insisted on leaving him a small tip for his trouble. I asked if I could put the tip on my card and this is when I was unpleasantly surprised that the owner thought it appropriate to charge me again for what I had paid for on the first visit. There was no agreement to the additional charge and had I known it was coming I would have not accepted it, it was late and I was tired and had no stomach to argue with him. I was so excited to get my hair done here! The reviews looks pretty good. And my husband set up and appointment for an early birthday present to get a balayage done by the "blond specialist" Ashley. I walked in with picture on what I would like. I know I have long, thick hair.. and it is naturally brown so I know I couldn't get as blond as I wanted that day. But I asked her to do her best. It started out really food. But half way through my hair I could tell she was over it. They told me that my hair wasn't "lifting" like she wanted it to. And then asked me is I had ever colored my hair. I had gotten pink highlights 2 years before hand and after they faded, only the bleach was left behind. But she kept blaming my hair "problems" on the "red" they used. Total nonsense. Not to mention she got bleach all over me and my clothes. ruined my dress. About 4 hours in, I could tell she just wanted it to be done. She was taking about how she had to head out of town soon. I knew that wasn't a good sign. She then quickly washed my hair then proceeded to blow dry/ style it. She hasn't even trimmed it yet.. I asked her if was was going to trim if after she styled it. She said yes. And did the quickest, most half ass hair cut I have ever gotten. Charged me $65 for it though.. I didn't notice till I got home and my husband told me that my hair was crooked and that she cut me with the clippers on my undercut and didn't even tell me. I was so good to them, I was patient, I tipped her 20% not knowing what she had done to my hair. The total cost was $482 and I cannot tell you how much of an idiot I feel for spending that. She took the time to listen and did not start anything until she had a good idea of what I had in mind. My hair is baby fine/thin and the roots from previous highlights had grown out tremendously. This salon is quite posh, the staff is very friendly, and the products are great. I want to give this place five stars but I just felt like the staff was pressing too hard to sell me things, and didn't listen to what I wanted. My stylist decided to give me balayage before she had seen the pictures I had brought for reference, and although the outcome was lovely, it wasn't what I had asked for. When I came in to get it redone, she didn't separate my already dyed hairs and fried some of my hair. It was really rushed and not as good as my first treatment. She had pressed me to get a conditioning treatment the first time and so I did, but couldn't afford it a second time. I left feeling unsatisfied and not wanting to come back. She was very knowledgeable about color...she got my orange brassy hair to a light ash brown no problem! I've gone to Total Hair Experience for about 2-3 years now. I see Melody every time. She is amazing! I love the experience there. They are always so friendly and seem so happy. It's such a nice relaxing time away from the kids. they do everything they can to schedule you the way you need to be scheduled! They love to work with you. I get full head balayage and cuts every time I go. And I feel like a superstar every time. They always ask if you would like something to drink. (Wine is always on the menu. Even though I don't drink, it is a classy option). My 2 year old daughter goes there for hair trims a lot. And melody is always so amazing with her. She started going when she was 1! I know crazy, if you saw the amount of hair this child has you would understand. Ha! Also, my grandmother sees Celeste every week. She has Alzheimer's disease and declining rapidly. Celeste keeps her hair looking fresh and I've never seen my grandmother smile so much (since the disease has taken over). Celeste is so amazing with her! I really wanted to like this place. I had a great cut from Melody and wanted to finish with a color. However she stated she didn't have the time to that day so we rescheduled it for that Saturday. Which was fine since I had an event to go to, I figured I'd get my hair colored and styled before the event. Great idea I thought! Well, once I arrived at the salon to check in with the gentleman at the front desk told me that I didn't have an appointment and that someone else with the name of Maria is sitting in her chair getting the same service. I told him I know she booked my appointment because I was standing there that day while she booked it. He went and asked her and she said it was confirmed and that was it. No apology from her, nothing. Why would you double book yourself and think its okay? Meanwhile, the gentleman said he doesn't know what he could do and apologized. He could have done a little more from a customer service standpoint than say "sorry but hope you have a good weekend." I am truly disappointed in the way I was treated. I was really looking forward to a great color from this salon before my event, but now because of my unprofessional experience, I have warned others at the event and friends to not come here. read more

This salon needs to get its reservations system in order and learn basic customer service. Had an appointment for a blow out last Saturday at 1 pm - they didn't take m until 1;35, which almost made me late for my event. Worse they didn't even tell me when I arrived my stylist was running late. At least the stylist was apologetic so I (tried) to return today for a hair cut. Had a 7 pm appointment. They called around 4 asked if I could come at 7:30 instead. I said fine. They call again around 630 - could I come the NEXT DAY instead. They didn't even apologize for wanting to completely cancel my appointment 30 minutes before i had originally had it scheduled for. Ok so I made an appointment with Chrissy who I have never been with before said I want to keep my length but shorten the bangs and get rid of the point in the back and leave the layers in to. I had to stop her when she was cutting my hair cuz she cut my bangs really far back but I just didn't think anything of it because I know I get nervous. She styled it in a way that did not look to bad. I went home and straightened my bangs....I balled my eyes out. My bangs were butchered and chopped all the way back to my ear!!!! All of my hair was one length and just completely butchered. I cried for an hour and still have a hard time even looking at myself because of how horrible that hair cut was. I had to go back and get it fixed by someone else. And it did help but it still gets to me every time I look in the mirror. And now I have to wait for it to grow. She should not be in the position she is in now! And she should not of been referred to me by the front desk as someone that is really experienced and has been doing hair forever like I asked for. Just moved to Jacksonville from Ohio and found this little gem of a salon close to home. I haven't had any color in my hair for over 6 years and was a bit nervous. I came in requesting to go from dark, dark brown to blond. After discussing with the gentlemen that welcomed me in we decided to go a little more subtle and get to desired blond over a couple visits. A positive, I love the look and location of the salon. The point, I got a bad haircut. So the receptionist suggested another stylist for my recut. When I arrived they moved me to the original stylist and said the other stylist would assist. I never saw the other stylist and the second cut worse than the first. Truth is, I'm not very picky so being unhappy means it's awful. read more
