After only 2.5 years, The concrete surface is already chipping and deteriorating, and more concerning, the underground drainage system connected to the gutter has recently become fully detached and is filled with mud. For a project that cost over $10,000, this level of failure in such a short timeframe is extremely disappointing and does not reflect reasonable workmanship standards. Do not hire. They do not do good work nor care the results. 1. After two winters my concrete driveway is crumbling literally everywhere. Their expert analysis is I have excess water due to seeing a dirty gutter and per the work order they sealed it properly and I should have done it again by now. I've had concrete done before. Neighbors on the street have had concrete w/ similar driveways and I've never seen similar deterioration. Additionally and of course it was out of warranty. 2. On the day of the concrete pour I was informed the original design for the porch wouldn't work bc of our slope which we discussed at nauseum bc I knew it was a concern but again they were clearly not qualified. 3. I had to stop them mid-brick work in the back because they knocked down the existing brick and started to rebuild it the exact same way. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had to re-explain the new design to the team.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Additionally they didn't slant it correctly or allow for the water to drain into the grass so after big rains excess water builds and slowly drains through unless I get out there to push it out. 4. They thought the brick around the grill in the pic below was an acceptable finish. (My entire neighborhood can see my backyard due to the way it sits btw). I asked them to replace the dark bricks to make it uniform and were given cracked and chipped replacements. At least its one color now I guess. We chose Total Paving to completely remove and replace our driveway after noticing several cracks in the original surface. From the start, I was impressed -- the crew was professional, punctual, and left the area clean. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. Just a few months after installation, multiple cracks began to form again -- roughly 5 to 10 cracks ranging from one to four feet long. [[HIGHLIGHT]]To their credit, Total Paving returned and reheated the asphalt to remove the cracks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While that left the surface looking somewhat patchy, I was told sealing would help it blend in, so I accepted that. After winter, new cracks began forming -- this time in different places. When I reported it, I was told the issue was no longer covered under warranty and that I could pay to have them repaired again. Against my better judgment, I did, hoping it would resolve the issue once and for all. Unfortunately, less than a year later, there are now more than 15 visible cracks throughout the driveway, ranging from one to six feet in length. It's clear to me that the problem stems from poor ground preparation or substandard materials, not from normal wear and tear. The fact that the company would not stand behind their work is unacceptable. I'm extremely disappointed and cannot recommend Total Paving. The workmanship has not held up, and the company's lack of accountability for what is clearly a recurring issue is very frustrating. I hired Total Paving and Brick Services to fill in cracks and resurface my driveway last spring, and it was an absolute disaster. They showed up, got to work immediately--no prep, no cleaning--just started sealing cracks and spreading the resurfacing material. The whole job was done in 90 minutes, which should have been my first red flag. Within five weeks, the resurfacing started coming off, and in two months, my driveway looked horrible--worse than before. It is a long and wide asphalt driveway. Cracks started appearing late last year when it was 8 months old. They came out to fix a couple of the cracks. And they did not address the others. After redoing my driveway earlier this year, I contracted with Total Paving to do the first seal coating. They were honest and said that depending on weather they may not have the bandwidth to do the job this year. Well, they had me on the list and reached out a few days ago to schedule the seal coating for today. They did a great job. They were on time and the driveway looks great. Also, they were super neat around the edges to the garage and to the street. I doubt I will do the sealing myself any more! read more

Contacted this company to get an estimate for removing my asphalt driveway and replacing it with concrete. I had seen their trucks in my area earlier in the week replacing a neighbor's driveway. I received their estimate, which looked reasonable, but before signing it I asked my lawyer to review it. Be aware that the contract has issues. Specifically -paragraphs 1, 7 and 11. Paragraph 1 - while it is fully understandable and reasonable that material and labor costs can potentially increase before the work is done, they provide no breakdown in the contract between labor and materials. If they request an increase, you have no idea what they are basing that increase on. Therefore, you should ask for a breakdown of labor costs vs material costs. Paragraph 7 - According to the law, it is the company's responsibility to notify Julie, not the customer's. And the company is responsible for any damage caused to utilities, not the customer. The customer has no way of knowing where the utilities are or how deep they are. Julie will give you and the company that information, but it's not up to the customer to monitor the company's work. Therefore, paragraph 7 needs to be stricken. Paragraph 11 - the contract asks for payment on completion so the customer is being asked to accept the work before the concrete is cured and can be driven on. At that point, the customer has no idea if there are defects. Therefore, paragraph 11 needs to be stricken or modified to say that final payment is due once the cure period is over, and the work has been deemed acceptable. The verbiage in Paragraph 3 also needs to be modified to reflect that payment is not due on the completion date, but rather when the concrete is cured and is acceptable. Beware of signing anything before you ask for a legal opinion. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I asked the company to modify the contract accordingly and they declined. An absolute disaster from start to finish. Communication was nonexistent once we signed the contract. They kept pushing off the work until late in the season. Then destroyed our landscaping with a heavy machine we didn't know they were going to use. Framing was initially done incorrectly and had to be redone, costing another 2 weeks. The final product has significant discolorations and splotches still visible almost a year later, and they didn't remove sections of the old patio by the doorways, leaving a total mess. DO NOT USE. UPDATE: the response below is a lie. They did not explain the risks or doing work in a cold season - they said, oh it could leave some marks but those will fade don't worry. They did not reseed the lawn after - we paid a landscaper $3000 to do that after they butchered ours. They did not finish to the doorways, leaving obvious spots that do not match. I did so as they would not change the contract. They also did not offer me a brochure which they are legally obligated to do about my rights when entering a contract. EXCELLENT CONCRETE SIDEWALK REPLACEMENT! My 60 foot, right angle curved front walk (approx 25 years old) was buckled due to tree roots that had pushed multiple slabs upward. Roots had also caused the walk to detach from the base of the concrete porch stairs. The crew removed all the old sidewalk, then worked DILIGENTLY to remove and cut back all the offending tree roots, some of which had grown to 6" in diameter or more. They installed a bank-run gravel base and allowed it to sit for a couple days. After the Memorial Day holiday, concrete was poured and finished in one day. They returned the following to day to remove all the forms which included some 90 degree curves, then backfilled all the forms areas with several cubic feet of topsoil that they brought in a trailer. The crews of 3 or 4 men each day worked continuously -- no loafing. And they responded to each my questions and concerns (especially about tree roots) without any nasty attitude. I waited quite a while to write this review, in the hopes that total paving would make things right. Unfortunately, they didn't. We have been battling this since June. We have a relatively small asphalt driveway with some small brickwork on the side. We engaged total paving to redo the driveway and relay the bricks. This was not, by any means, an inexpensive endeavor. The look of my old driveway with its cracks was always an eyesore to me -- so, when we finally got the driveway redone, I even exercised extra caution and waited more than twice as long as they recommended before driving on the surface. Nonetheless, our "brand new" driveway is crumbling, and our bricks continue to crack and separate at the seams. After many unreturned calls followed by no shows for appointments, they did come back to try and fix the problems -- but they were largely unsuccessful and have demanded full payment nonetheless (which we will pay, very begrudgingly and unhappily). Eric's communication was excellent and we exchanged several phone calls in order to make sure the estimate reflected what I wanted done. (I had two other estimates that were both higher). There was a several week wait for permitting and the two woman in the office were excellent at both their knowledge of where my jobs permits were at in the process as well as their promptness in returning my phone calls. Once the permits were in, Eric called and quickly scheduled the work to be done. The crew were 100% on time, the work was done smoothly and efficiently, and the finished driveway came out great. We hired Total Paving to build our backyard paver patio. They did a phenomenal job! Our salesman Eric was wonderful and answered all of our questions and provided us with guidance and design solutions that made sense with our home. We gave him a general patio size and budget and he worked with us to find a design we loved. The team even rerouted our downspout gutter underneath the paver patio and covered a pre existing concrete step to make sure our patio was perfect. They even went out of their way to preserve some of our flowers they had to dig up and relocated them. After the patio was finished, they then reseeded the surrounding area with grass seed and cleaned up excess debree. They initially asked for 10% deposit so that they can schedule the work in early spring of 2021. In March 2021, they changed their tune and asked for an additional 40% upfront even before scheduling the work. 50% upfront prior to starting the work (much less scheduling the work) is not standard and is totally unreasonable. No other contractor does that. I called and asked to speak with the owner and was flatly told that he/she was not available. Absolutely horrible company. Original review: After paving our complex, there were areas that were not level and collected puddles after moderate rains. My claim for damage to a garage door was met with disinterest, denial, and refusal even to look at images I'd offered to send. My impression is that if they can weasel out of even considering their culpability, they rush to do so. Attitude toward customers: disdainful and combative. The Sarah Sanders of customer service. I just came across their response (well over a year later) and I respond to it: First, my larger complaint was that they were openly hostile to my call. They denied that they had done any damage, refused to consider it even a possibility, and refused to look at photographs I offered to send them (and even in my review, I expressed suspicion rather than certainty - though apparently several other owners had also noted similar damage to garage doors). My main complaint was the rude and dismissive response. I am willing to accept the possibility (maybe, just maybe a likelihood) that their equipment did not damage my garage or others in the complex - could, for instance, have been unnoticed damage from someone else's snow removal equipment. But this woman was just horrible. What incredibly rude and insulting customer service! Add to that there were some water pooling issues after their work was completed, which I believe were addressed in response to the board's request. And one last minor item: her contention that I had posted on numerous review sites, apparently besmirching their sterling image. Well, I did post on Yelp. I did post on Angie's List. That was it, and (I ask) if you're highly unhappy with a contractor's service, why wouldn't you post a critical review in two locations? Please do look at the other One and Two star reviews. This was my first home project and now set a bad precedent for other projects planned. Very disappointing for a $10k job (18 hours of work performed). While the work was good, the business side was disappointing and a very challenging process. Had I known I would've chosen a different outfit to R&R my drive and walkway. Eric Lopez, the sales rep, was negligent, disrespectful and dishonest. Added 40 tons gravel that was never delivered. After negotiations, the partner, Jorge, deducted an arbitrary 60% of material but only reduced the cost by 40%. I contacted four contractors to tear out and re-pave our asphalt driveway. Total paving and one other company's bids were the lowest (others were significantly higher). I asked both companies the same questions and was impressed with Total Pavings response time and detail of their response. I then asked both companies for a few references, which they provided with no issues. When looking at driveways both companies recently paved, I was impressed by the appearance and attention to detail on the Total Paving driveways so we chose Total Paving. Unfortunately they weren't able to get to our driveway until after I left for an extended overseas trip, but I was confident we wouldn't have any issues while I was gone. They arrived as scheduled in August 2019 to tear out, fill and compact which was completed the first day. City inspection took place the second day. They arrived on day three ready to pave. The paving crew supervisor on site made sure to explain the process to my wife in detail, and even encouraged her to take videos throughout the process so she could send them to me. My wife appreciated the continuous communication and how neat and clean they kept the job site. Several of our neighbors have commented on how nice our driveway looks. I hired total paving last September after getting three quotes. I worked with Erik. From the start he was very attentive and for the most part responsive to my questions. Their quotes was in the middle of the three but I felt most comfortable with this co. They did both my driveway and replace my fro t stairs. Btw not all co do both and that was important to me. All went fine however the final step was laying polymeric sand into the Brian's for the stairs. The key here is it can't rain hard with several hours after that install. Well it poured rain about one hour after completion. I Called and they came right out and determined it was fine. Well 8 months later I noticed the sand was not hard as designed. I called Erik and he came out last month and agreed, and replaced the sand. The warranty was still effect and they backed it. There was a small communication snag about the work necessary to fix but after a discussion it was resolved. Solid work. Today my steps and drive look great and it nice to work with a co that provides this level of service. All workers are very nice and professional. All was well until an incident occured. We didnt have a brand new driveway installed for it to be producing loose ashphalt like the original 20 yr old driveway. Total Paving says it will be fine with a sealcoat when everyone we have talked to says it's the quality of the product and you dont sealcoat a driveway for a year when they want to do it in 60 days. Their core values talk about communication yet, I have had to be the one calling them. Carla specifically says they will call us back and doesn't.
