I don't write reviews unless I really think businesses are great and let me tell you I was not expecting to rave about a paving company. First off - the email confirmations from them. The level of detail & clarity answered any question I could possibly have had. Love that!! When I had forgotten the instructions - back to the email. Next I loved how conscientious the team was. I know it's a little thing but I loved that they closed my garage door for me after they were done. Everything happened exactly according to the email instructions I received and they were incredible to watch when they came back to pave. There were 9 workers there and every one of them was hustling. They got my driveway completely paved in 1 hour. Lastly the owner (who is part of the team) came to my door to chat. Great experience today with American Asphalt. From quoting to clean up this company knows how to do it. My salesman offered some great advice of things to do before replacing my driveway. Our asphalt driveway has hidden chunks of concrete and the last company to pave it just covered them over, which caused problems later. American Asphalt showed us what they were going to do and addressed all of our problems. They came on time, were VERY careful not to hurt my plants and cleaned up after themselves. These guys operate like a symphony orchestra all in tune. They arrived at 9:30 and finished at noon (2 1/2 hours). At one time they had 10 people (super team) working my small driveway. He must've had five dump trucks running to bring asphalt, haul away debris and other trucks for hauling two rollers and a bobcat. They were very efficient and professional and everyone knew what to do to get the job completed. I signed the proposal on Thursday afternoon and said they be there Friday morning. I just contacted Them for another one of our buildings and because they did not put the driveway In they refused to do the job. I fail to understand why a company we have worked with in the past would refuse to Work with. We have other properties we need work on and will need to find another company. American Asphalt replaced my old driveway. They were fast, efficient, and the cheapest estimate that I got. My only complaint is that when I left a message calling for an estimate, they never called back or acknowledged that they got my message. Instead I had an estimate stuck in my door a few days later. Otherwise, once I had secured the permit and returned the contract they were here the next week. They stripped the driveway Monday (took from around 9am-11am), then came back on Tuesday to pave (arrived 7am, done by 9:30am). Total cost of the job was $3400. read more

I hired American Asphalt to replace my old driveway. When the representative came, he was superb. He explained that because the driveway had settled so much, I would need a new walkway to the front door and that needed to be done first. I did that and then American came out and put in a new driveway. Their work was supreme! they tied everything up to my new walks and installed the best driveway I have ever seen. I called a few days later to tell them that the metal culvert had a sharp edge exposed; they came out the next day and repaired it perfectly. The cost was very reasonable. I had American Asphalt replace my driveway years ago, and was told that they would do seal coating for their customers only. Well I have been trying to get them to seal coat as promise for the last two seasons. I have made a few calls to see why they have not seal coated yet. I have heard nothing from them. I will never use American Asphalt again. Beware, They want the asphalt jobs, But they do not keep their promises to seal coat in the future. Terrible company "Beware" Their dispatcher needs a lesson in customer service , she only returns calls when she wants to. read more

Removed and replaced our driveway with a level of care and quality that was better than expected. We have paver edges on our driveway and they were careful to keep everything nice and tight. Additionally, they minimized the mess - no crumbles of asphalt in the lawn, no stains on the sidewalk or brick, etc. On and off rain made scheduling a challenge, but the team in the office handled rescheduling with great communications and got the job done in the first available window. After a few years of savings we were ready to have our asphalt driveway redone. It came out to around $5k which was a competitive price (although the culvert replacement was very high). We decided to go with American Asphalt over a couple of other highly recommended companies in the area. The day of the work went well, quite an operation to see, and they did a great job. Over the next few days we noticed a large area (10sq ft) that was holding water in the driveway (a little less than an inch in the middle). We reached out to AA on this and were told it was too late in the season (fall of 18) to do anything about it. Through the winter this area constantly freezes over as ice which the only option to remedy is salt (not good for the driveway if it cannot be washed off). This spring ('19) I reached out to them again (with additional photos) looking to see what could be done. In the end Frank called me back and explained that sometimes it happens and it's not perfect. Trying to correct could cause more issues and may be costly (sometimes it could take 3 trips). So in the end there was no solution they were willing to try or do. I'm disappointed in the outcome of this project and AA as this is a $5k spend on something that is permanent (15-20 years) that we'll have to sweep and ice over this time period. read more

I rate them a 5 star for so many reasons. They came out right away and gave me a bid, the day they were supposed to lay asphalt it rained and they rescheduled me right away. They sent a crew here 3 times - one to take old old driveway - one to lay binding base - one to lay top. The crew worked so well together (I watched from inside) they worked in harmony, working quick, everyone seemed to know their job. My driveway is beautiful. The price is competitive. The owner is 2nd or 3rd generation and works on the job. I cannot say enough positive things. I have had several contractors working at my house and American Asphalt did more than the others in terms of honoring their quote, being on time, finishing on time, beautiful work, no mess left behind. Frank came out to give me an estimate which came out to give an estimate during the summer in early August. Nice guy and gave a competitive estimate. They were booked all the way until now so we waited for them due to what we read on previous reviews. They came today for it and that's where everything turned into a one star experience. We had a corner of the front of the driveway that had pavers on it, when the owner/boss came I asked if he would be able to take those away too or if we needed to. At that point he said they weren't doing that part. I explained that I was under the impression that the whole driveway was getting done. He explained that that would be an addition and they would have to call Julie and dig down 10" to add the base and doing an addition. The owner then stated "You won't believe how many times he's f@cking done that me". He then said what do you want to do since they would do what they had planned to do and leave the corner alone and if I wanted it done it would have to be done next year since their season ends next week. I told him to give me a minute while I asked my wife to which he chuckled at. I told him to go ahead with it at which time I tried to explain my understanding of it which then he said he didn't think I would pay him for the work he was going to do. I've never done that to anyone that's been owed money and to say that about a customer as the owner is very disrespectful. The entire time I just picked up on the feeling that he didn't want to do the work and then saying that was his way out of it. Now I'm out for the cost of the permit, took a day off of work only to be left with the old driveway. I hope Rob, the owner, addresses the communication issue with his company instead of disrespecting his customers the way he did today. read more

Wonderful experience from beginning to end. The representative (Frank) who came to provide an estimate was knowledgeable and informative. The estimate was competitive and the work was completed in a very professional manner. I selected this company because they have only one crew which includes the owner of the company. He in fact works side by side with his team. They are a fine-tuned crew and it was interesting to watch how efficient they are. Everyone knows exactly where they need to be and what they need to be doing. The experience of each of the members is easy to recognize. Interestingly, they do not ask for any payment until the job is done supporting the fact that they have confidence in their work product. I watched over the process and there was nothing that I felt needed to be addressed as the work was completed. In fact, they did more than I expected. I have one walkway off the driveway which was not level with the old driveway and they altered the pitch to ensure that it met the level of the walkway. The project was not simple in that I have a three-car garage and the driveway is curved as well as very steep. Perfect job by a great company. read more

American Asphalt came out for an estimate on a new driveway. They provided the estimate, I accepted; we scheduled the work date. They could not do it on the first day we scheduled since it started raining just as they arrived. When they came out a few days later to do the work, all of a sudden it occurred to the owner, Rob, that I did not have enough drainage in front of my garage, for them to complete the job. They apologized for wasting all this time for me but withdrew their offer to do my driveway. Why did the person who came out to give me the estimate not realize I did not have enough drainage (which, by the way, was not correct since the company who eventually did my driveway had no problem grading the surface to have proper drainage)? I heard from someone who knows Rob, the owner, that most likely their estimate was too low and they did not want to do the job. I would not recommend this company. read more

We had such a positive experience with American Asphalt. They gave us a quote, it took time to get through our village for the permit and once all was settled, they came out. They wasted no time tearing up the driveway. We did have to wait a couple of days for the inspector to do their job, but once it was done, they scheduled us a day earlier than expected. I wish I could leave a review of their service, but this company did not respond to 8 -- yes, EIGHT -- phone calls my husband and I made over the course of the entire summer, asking for someone to please give us an estimate on a asphalt driveway. We live in a small home in the next town over. While the receptionist was pleasant, no one had the courtesy to even call back. Finally, on my eighth call, I played the "Army" card: I told the receptionist that my husband is in the Army and will be deployed over the winter, and I really don't want to have to shovel a gravel driveway. Which is the absolute truth. Still...no response. Crickets. And so, it has now come to pass, that I am outside, by myself, shoveling snow off of a crummy gravel driveway, instead of snowblowing a nice, new asphalt driveway. Very bad customer service. My driveway cracked within a year and they won't stand behind their work even though they claim 100% satisfaction guaranteed. Their sales person, Frank, very rude. The village inspector said the driveway shouldn't have cracked within a year and the base was not properly installed. read more

American Asphalt just installed our driveway. It replaces a 30 year old cracked up mess and it's beautiful (as driveways go). American was responsive to our request for an estimate. They were thorough about having the village water department come out as we have a water valve access in the driveway that needed extending. They even contacted the water department for us. Once the village gave the okay, we were confirmed. They throw a lot of equipment and personnel at the job and in less than 2 hours it's done.
