I worked here for about a month, and unfortunately, my experience as an employee was very disappointing. I'm sharing this because I believe customers should know what can happen behind the scenes of a business they choose to support. I was scheduled only 2-3 days a week for about 4-5 hours per shift. Much of my training consisted of tests through an app that I only had the opportunity to complete a few times. I was ultimately let go because I hadn't learned the difference between UVA and UVB rays quickly enough. I understand the importance of knowing the information required for the job, but I don't feel I was given enough opportunity to practice, review, or improve before being judged on how quickly I learned it. I was putting effort into my job, showing up for my shifts and completing the work I was asked to do, including cleaning the tanning beds and other physical duties. I was also upfront that I personally did not want to use UV tanning beds and preferred spray tanning and red-light therapy. I can't say whether that influenced my termination, but it did make me question whether I was given a fair opportunity. What bothered me most was the lack of consideration and professionalism. My father had just been diagnosed with kidney cancer, and management knew because I was crying at work after finding out and spoke with one of the managers. I still stayed and finished my shift that day. Despite knowing what I was dealing with, I never felt anyone checked in or considered whether something outside of work was affecting me. I was ultimately let go while my father was undergoing surgery to remove his cancerous kidney, and I was terminated in the front of the store in front of other employees rather than being spoken to privately. I found the way this was handled extremely embarrassing and unprofessional. I'm not reviewing this because I want my job back or disagree with businesses having standards. I'm reviewing it because how a business treats its employees matters, and customers deserve to know what is happening behind the scenes of the businesses they support. For a business that has been around for years, I expected a much higher level of professionalism, communication, training, and respect toward employees. Not really happy that I bought 10 visits....I had 6 visits left on my account and because I didn't use them within 6 months they expired. I take a medication in cycles which is why I now buy individual visits instead of monthly because at times I cannot tan. They should at least be good for a year. That's so greedy and scam like. I love the tanning salons but the policy's are kind of shitty imo. read more

I have been coming here since my teens! I am not in my late 30s and moved away and STILL only come here to tan! I have also gotten my partner to only come here as well. I have always loved this place but used it sporadically. I was surprised to find new owners when I popped in to use their new Bio Bed. First, I want to say that I have been dealing with one of the new owners, Jordan and she is awesome. Very friendly and accommodating. Second, I would like to address the Bio Bed. I went because I was having a hard time having some scars heal and I didn't want them showing at my son's wedding. I did some research and decided the bed might work for me on the Skin setting. It took a minute for me to get used to the lights, but once I did I loved it. And I truly feel it helped my scars to minimize greatly before the wedding. In fact, the girls at work asked what I was doing because my skin looked so good. I'm now signed up for 2 more months and plan on using the inflammation setting and addressing some of those issues. This is undeniably the BEST tanning spot you'll ever encounter. Like they say, you DO get what you pay for so if you can't afford it don't even ask how much honey. It's worth every single dollar you spend I promise. Too Top top of the line everything. Norvell and Versa Spa Pro to choose from, make sure to check their website first for first time specials. I used to go tanning when I was in high school, but I haven't gone since (over 10 years). I also have never had a spray tan before visiting total tan and wellness. I initially called to ask about the spray tan, how much it costs, and the process. The facility is very clean, and they did guide me through the spray tanning process very thoroughly. I feel their prices are reasonable, but I don't have much experience to be able to compare them. I do wish they would wear masks inside the building, as none of the employees or customers were. But the staff was extremely friendly, and were willing to help me out with any question or concern that I had. The only suggestion I have, beside the masks, is that they need to have a designated receptionist. When I went in, the man checking me in had to take eight phone calls while setting up my package and getting me in the system. It took a lot longer than it needed to because he had to do everything at the front desk. On a less busy day or time, I'm sure it's not a problem. Overall, I am happy with my experience, and would recommend this facility. Again, I just wish they would have masks on and require customers to wear them as well. So, after my horrible "Sundays" experience, I was clueless as to where to go to get a good tan. My friend from high school suggested I try Total Tan. Originally I was apprehensive because I had heard that their prices were a little high. But in my situation I was willing to try anything (I really needed some color for a big event I had coming up). I walked into total tan and was greeted by the owner. Surprised about how friendly and helpful the staff was I decided to vent about the awful experiences I had at the other tanning salon. The owner was very sympathetic and actually apologized to me for the experience I had at Sundays. On this particular day I was deciding between doing a bed and doing my beloved Mystic. I opted for the bed because I needed to shower right after (when doing mystic you need to wait to shower). The bed (or more like rocket ship) WAS AMAZING it had a surround sound radio, an iPod adaption, aroma therapy sprayers, misting (water) sprayers, and enough bulbs to light the city of Detriot. Let me tell you, one time in this high pressure beauty and I had looked like I came back from a 4 day Caribbean Cruise. Before I left the owner explained to me that although Mystic is good for sunless color (which I definitely am a fan of), he actually had a new machine that did sunless color but even better. I was hesitant so he gave me a coupon for 10 dollars off a "Versaspa" session. I recently tried this Versaspa and I am sooo hooked! Anyone who is familiar with Mystic know you have to be real careful with the hand and foot barrier cream, the positions you hold while it's spraying you, your hair being out of the way (or else it could discolor your hair), the annoying wiping down after (you still get drip marks on the back of your leg anyway), and not to mention it's COLD! Vera Spa is like nothing I've ever tried before. I guess there are only 4 of these machines in Michigan and Total Tan owns one of them. The sprayers are on a tract not a pivot rotation and it's a fine MIST not a spray. The solution is top of the line giving you a brown instead of a orange color. It's a 4 pass rotation machine instead of just 2, so It gets completely even color and the positions are natural (none of that claw hand stuff). There are two drying rotations were the sprayers just blow air (no wiping down) and a heater in the machine so it's not cold. The machine itself is actually open so you don't get that claustrophobic feeling of being in a dark black box with cold things shooting you (not to mention you don't have to breathe in those awful fumes). And the machine is completely computerized, it actually talks to you. The guy showing me how to use it told me I didn't even need to use barrier cream because the mist is so even. This place is just alright. I moved here from Virginia and was excited to see they had the exact same tanning bed I was using. Unfortunately, I don't think they change their bulbs as frequently as they should and it's very pricey. I was paying $75 in VA for unlimited monthly. Total tan wants $130 for the same thing. Their staff is very knowledgeable and polite and the place feels very clean. They are definitely going for the upper class clientele. I go tanning for results though, and find I get better color from Chili Peppers. read more

This is a great tanning spot! The place is beautiful inside, very spacious. The staff is very knowledgeable and so helpful when helping you choose what's best for you! I have only gotten a spray tan one time and it was a long time ago, so I was hoping for recommendations and advice and that's exactly what I got!! She walked me through step by step what to do and tips for after care, she recommended certain options based on what I was going for and what would work best with my skin tone. I first started tanning 6 years ago and I lived locally. I ventured to different establishments in the area and none compared to Total Tan. I then went away for my undergraduate studies and during those 4 years every summer I would get a summer package because I was never able to find an establish that is at the caliber that Total Tan is. I absolutely love the friendly staff, who are very knowledgeable and are willing to work with you to help you achieve the results you want. The facility is wonderful. I have never walked into a room/bed that I wasn't satisfied with. They have a FANTASTIC music set up that is the highest quality around! I love plugging in my iPod in to listen to my music! Two days ago was my first visit to this salon and I will say that I was blown away! From the appearance and cleanliness to the variety of beds to the prices and affordability to my favorite part - the customer service. I was greeted and helped by Chris. He was hands down one of the friendliest and really informative employees I've ever came across in a tanning salon. He was not pushy and just looking at dollar signs. He was not rushing me as if I was not important. He didn't just assume that I knew about every bed and what it actually did for my skin. He took the time to talk to me in detail and he was beyond genuine in his conversation. Even though people were coming and going while I was up front with him, he still assisted every single person. He said goodbye and complimented customers as they left and he excused himself from me momentarily while he got customers setup for this tanning visits. I was amazed. You'd think this is common (GREAT service) but it sure isn't these days. Based on the service alone, they forever have a loyal customer. Hats off to Chris for being a genuinely great guy and taking the time to take me through the entire place. People are quick to give nasty, negative reviews; however, when it comes to phenomenal experiences, they get brushed to the side like they aren't just as important.
