Came in to buy a celebratory bottle for the birth of our son. My husband went to the case and there was a sign that said "ring the bell for service." We stood there for a while, the cashier was standing there staring at us. We still waited around and finally asked a worker that was walking by if he could open the case. He said we just had to go to the cash register and tell them what we wanted. We went to the cashier who was staring at us and she was rude. Her name was Melissa. Previously when we had purchased anything in cases, someone would come and help us. Melissa asked us "what do you want??" We told her and she's like "which one?" Like most Total Wines, this place is great. Because it has alcohol. And a lot of it. I came here specifically in search of the Pabst Blue Ribbon Hard Coffee beer. Yes, you read that right. And before you judge me, T R Y I T. It's straight FIRE and literally tastes like you're just drinking a canned latte. It's THAT good. Dangerous, really. To my dismay, I couldn't find it ANYWHERE. I finally caved and asked for help and ended up with one of the managers helping me. He hadn't heard of it, but he searched it and found that they had 19 boxes of it! I went in with my husband to buy myself alcohol, he always comes with me and never brings his ID, he doesn't drink. I've been at this location a few times in the past few months, I'm always with him and it's never been an issue, we're both over 35. Today I was told by a cashier that I've never seen before that she was unable to sell to me because he didn't have his ID. If this is normal policy, be consistent across the board. Otherwise it makes me think that the cashier has an issue with me... They have a huge selection of almost every wine, beer and hard liquor known to man and a staff able to tell you about each and every one of them. They have wine tastings on selected dates, usually on Saturday, and they also have reserve tastings for members. All you need to do is give them your phone number, they put you in their system and as you purchase you earn points which gets you invited to events and you receive cards and emails with discounts. My only complaint is that we live in tacoma and the closest one is Federal Way so I have to plan visits. they have said they're coming our way but now say there are no more expansions planed for next year. He even helped a person next us to us who was tasting as well that did not need extra help. There was at least a line of 6-8 people plus 2 people at customer service checkout, usually an employee would ask for more assistance to the front but obviously that is not in your managers job bracket to inform y'all. I went to this store to purchase 2 bottles of Don Julio 1942 for a 4th of July celebration. I carried my ID with me knowing the legal purchasing age of alcohol though I am well above that age in case they ask. As I was walking in, I happen to see one of my neighbors, and like any person would, I started talking to my neighbor. Upon reaching the cash register, I made my requested purchase and I showed them my ID but my neighbor did not have his as he realized he left his ID at home. Mind you, he is already in his 40s. They insisted for his ID, so he decided to pass up on his purchase and walked out the store. However, BOBBY (the cashier) refused to sell me what I came in for though I was making a purchase for myself. He was rude and short with me saying that he can't sell to me just because he saw me walk in with my neighbor. What???!! Just because I was friendly to a neighbor who I am not responsible for, I would get treated with bias and refusal. This quickly became a frustrating process because I was getting late for my party. My time is getting wasted and I did not have time to search for Don Julio 1942s elsewhere. Again, I was with a valid ID that I am of legal age (I'm in my 30s so there's that) and I was making the individual purchase for ME. What escalated my frustration was the way Bobby (the cashier) handled the delivery of service. It was atrocious. He was rude. I will repeatedly say that. Had I known I was going to be treated that way, I would have never considered going to Total Wines And More. So I had to ask my neighbor if he could grab his ID for my sake. He did and went back to the store just to get things over with. It's so embarrassing to put someone else in inconvenience just so I can proceed with my day. I mean I get it, my neighbor didn't bring his ID, that's on him. You can refuse to sell to him. But not someone else because of someone else's mishap. I finally was able to make my purchase worth $390 for the two bottles and rushed out the store because, at that point, I was already late. I told everyone that day about my experience and everyone agreed that Bobby and his "store policy" did not make sense-- faulting and refusing someone over someone else and the poor customer service! You need to review this and coach your employees. With my experience, I am extremely dissatisfied. Could have there been something else that could've been done differently? 100%! Let me start by saying that this store is great for drop in and buy alcohol and mixers, beers, wine etc BUT.... Do NOT depend on them for special occasion keg orders . I went in early July to order a quarter keg for my son's rehearsal dinner. He selected the beer he wanted, I offered to pay then as we ordered . They put all my contact information in to their computer. On the day of the rehearsal dinner, with our car packed with supplies for the rehearsal, dinner and party we stopped to pick up the keg. Nope, they didn't have it. No phone call letting us know it didn't arrive and we needed to make another selection, no apology, they actually treated us as an inconvenience. If I could give this place a zero, I would. I have been a fan of Total Wine for years. I've found that they have the best selection and pricing in whatever town I have been in. I went in to make a purchase, what I wanted was at the longer end of an aisle. When I turn around to go towards the front of the store, I see a large Caucasian man staring me down. He didn't say a word, just literally watched me like a hawk and didn't make any attempt to hide it. There was no "hello, finding everything ok?', nothing. Once I got to the register, he was literally still staring at me as if I was the only one in the store. I asked the cashier who he was. She said "Bob" was a sales rep. I told her that I didn't appreciate the way he was tracking me through the store, it made me feel singled out and stereotyped. Her literal response was, "well it's because you have a large bag". What? So a woman that likes to carry large bags is automatically assumed a thief? Or is a brown woman with a large bag assumed a thief? I told her that just because I have a large purse doesn't mean that I steal. She said "we do everyone with large bags like that. We stare them down to deter them from taking things, we have a large problem with theft in this store". So basically, its store rules for them to make you, A GUEST, as uncomfortable as possible if you carry a large handbag. I call Bull****. I will never step foot in this place again. I will make sure my associates, business partners and all the business owners I know stop using this place for their personal and business events. I go to the Total Wine in Tukwila regularly and we (my network) have used them for everything. I like large purses and wear them regularly, I have never been treated like that when I visit the Tukwila or other locations. I went in with a growler, approach the "Tap Bar" and the child (with a name tag) looks up from his all-important-phone and says, "You (the customer)need to flag someone down". I immediately spun on my heel and headed out the door! I don't go to a place of business to be told by an employee that I the customer need to flag someone down. What I needed to do at the time was get a growler refilled. I did not go in to do their job! Management please promote customer service with anyone wearing a name tag in your establishment! Grand opening today! Very nice spacious and handsome looking store! Nice, well lit and clean. Very friendly and helpful staff! They had problems getting the growler fill station set up this morning but after 15 minutes or so.. they finally got it figured out. During checkout the cashier I went to didn't have enough cash to give me change, so I had to wait a bit for that as well. So there are some minor kinks they need to workout, but overall great customer service. For my time they comp'ed the price for the growler bottle.. and the cashier gave me Total Wine wine bottle opener, Riedel wine glasses and Total Wine store reusable bag and TODAY ONLY they are giving away either wine glasses or beer glasses! read more

I went into Total Wine and More today looking for Washington Chards. They pointed me to an area called "Best of Washington" and there were only two Chards I could find (with help) and in the Chardonnay row, it was mostly all California Chards. All the Washington Chards were on the bottom row hidden among all the California ones. This is freaking Washington, NOT California. Chardonnay's are a premium grape grown here and the selection was most dissappointing. You can find a much better selection at Safeway. Why could not they organize it so all the Washington ones were all together? Makes no sense what so ever. This is a huge store filled with wine and booze and more. That's good, but how about knowing your customers just a bit? I had specific choices I wanted but they had none of those. There are, what, 1000 wineries in Washington and I found about 15 Chards. Their selection is ridiculously extensive, their staff are very knowledgeable about spirits (and can guide you to the right point on the price vs. quality scale depending on your needs), and their prices beat everyone else (looking at you, BevMo). I usually hit up the Total Wine in Seattle. However, I found myself in Federal Way a couple of weeks ago, and had a couple of bottles I needed to restock, so this Total Wine seemed like the right place to head to. As usual, I was not disappointed. They had the specific cognac I wanted, as well as Campari, so the shopping trip was as easy as it gets. I always have to hurry myself back to the car when at Total Wine to resist the temptation to buy multiple other things that I really do not need, so I quickly showed myself out the door as soon as I was done at the register. I would love to give them 4 to 5 stars as their selection is better than most and the cost to fill growlers is very reasonable. However, I accompanied my boyfriend today and they refused to sell to him as I didn't have my ID present. Apparently it is company policy to card anyone under 41. This is the first time in my 10+ visits someone other than the payee has been carded. I'm all for company policy however it should be followed 100% of the time vs. when they want. First of all, getting help finding the beverages was great. Very helpful employees. I asked how to get coupons and was told how very readily. When I checked out, I asked the cashier how to become a member so I could get rewards. "Go to the website." That was not very helpful at the time. The coupon I got was $5 off $50 in wine. Not helpful, as I was not buying wine. Of course, that's not their fault. Anyway, I went on the website, became a member and requested credit for my purchase. It's all good now.
