Very dense pineapple bun. Very sad
    Katie N.

I really wanted to like this bakery and have been here twice. This will be the last. I literally found a mini fly cooked on the top of the pineapple bun. See photograph. At first I thought maybe it was a burnt crumb or dark sesame. It definitely has antennas and legs. Despite the dead cooked bug on my pineapple bun, I cut open another pineapple bun and realized how dense and dry it was in the center. It had no filling and unlike other buns I've had everywhere else, it's supposed to be light and airey, not hard like dry bread. I was very disappointed. The bbq pork bun center was also not centered as a big chunk of dry bread was in the center and the filling off to the side. The bbq pork tasted dry with a lot of fatty pieces and was dyed with a very bright red food coloring. The prices for the buns were over $3 and tasted very dry and unappetizing. Overall, this was my second visit, hoping the first was a fluke but the second with the dead fly on top was a deal breaker. The older lady who helped me the first time was very sweet. The older gentleman who helped me the second time was also very nice. I like to support local business but common. Please do some quality control on your baked goods before selling it. This dead fly cooked on top of the bun was a poor decision of either being lazy or hoping someone would not catch it.

Came across this place on yelp and had to try it the next time I came around. Oh man, I was not disappointed. The hom bows are delicious. They are the better ones that I've had around the area. It's roughly $4 a bun, not a bad price nowadays with inflation. The inside of the bread is fluffy soft and then had the slight crunch from the outer part, it was made well. It would be great if they added more filling but the filling had a great taste of chunks of meat. My boyfriend ordered the pineapple bread and it had a sweet top coating, no filling.

Amazing Hum Bow!!!!! If ya have a moment and you are a bit hungry, stop by and try a him bow. If you've had it before, you know what I'm talking about and if you haven't, your in for a great meal. The barbecue pork on a stick is the best around as well. The worst part is selecting which hum now and how much barbecue pork on a stick! Nuff said!

Wow, who would've thought you could get delicious and authentic Chinese bakery goods from an outdated mall? I've actually never step foot inside this place, but I am lucky enough to get showered in BBQ pork buns at least once a month. Their BBQ pork buns are amazing. I prefer the baked ones over the steamed ones. The baked buns are soft and pillowy and they're filled up with just enough bbq pork. The bbq pork filling isn't too sweet either, which is something I am very critical about. I am also a huge fan of the curried beef buns. It's really unique in that it's both sweet and savory. And again, just the right amount of filling! No need to drive to Chinatown in Seattle for baked goods when you can just come here. Just an FYI, due to covid their hours are currently 11am-7pm.

I have eaten baked BQ Hum Bow all around the country; and I just like there's the best!

Bakery display case of good eats!

Awesome menu, lots of my favorites! And steamed HomBow! Like we used to get growing up in Hawaii, it's called Manapua there. Support local, be safe, say kind words and Mask UP!

Last time I got their, the lady was so bitchy to me and I came back this time with hope. This time, I went with shrimps yakisoba for $13 and they gave me tons of noodles and only 4 shrimps. Never comeback!

First picture was a take-out order I placed a couple weeks ago, noodles were great! Spicy seafood noodle was a bit bland for my taste 2nd picture was yesterday. I came by for a quick dinner. Service is quick and nice, she checked on us very often and offered to refill kimchi and radish as well! I came back because I really like the black bean noodle, the noodle came with a generous amount of black bean sauce and coat the noodle very well. I like how there is a nice balance between meat and veggie inside the sauce, the thickness is great and esp the color is dark!! I ordered the combo this time, the pork was coated nicely and deep-fried thoroughly but didn't make it dry at all! The sweet and sour sauce is well balanced. Bear with me: I'm a touring entertainer who LOVES K-BBQ but have come up against an annoying trend. When traveling solo I'm often told I cannot have BBQ experience alone, OR (even worse) I have to pay for two entrees. Somehow it makes sense (HOW?) that a solo diner in an otherwise empty restaurant has to pay DOUBLE for the whole thing. NOT at Mirak Korean BBQ, thankfully. I spent the day performing (two back to back shows), packed up and drove three hours to arrive in Longview. Hungry. Much to my delight my hotel is in "Little Korea" neighborhood. I went to Palace BBQ first and was disappointed at their "policy" and told I would have to pay for one adult and one "child" menu and the sides, lettuce, etc would be EXTRA. NO frickin way. Besides the place was an unattractive "turn and burn" food factory and I was disheartened. I'm SO glad I left as I found Mirak! The place has been around since the 1980s and the decor shows it, but not in a shabby way. It's simple and straightforward and says -let's enjoy some K-home cooking! The owners were friendly, the servers made me feel like I was their son or nephew and I was immediately attended to. I chose the "all you can eat" BBQ and was instantly served up all the tasty side dishes, cold Korean beer and an amusing jug of ice-water. The side dishes were very good. Several classics: Kimchi and kimchi cucumbers, etc. but there were several others that were very good quality. I go to many Korean BBQ places and often frequent Korean spas in my home area, so I can say with some (gringo) authority the owners of Mirak do go above and beyond to present high quality side dishes. So, I started with Marinated Bulgogi and Prawns. I was pleasantly surprised by the generous size and freshness of these giant prawns. The beef was flavorful. When I asked for lettuce and bean paste to wrap my grilled beef it came instantly -- and NOT with a surcharge like Palace BBQ around the corner tacks on. (Honestly, how can some places mistreat their customers by asking them to pay upwards of $30-$45 for a meal and not toss in some leaves of romaine and bean paste.) I got a second course of prawns, and then a third course of Beef Short-Rib. Delicious. I would heartily recommend navigating to Mirak, it's a humble and wonderful eatery; a gem tucked away in a nondescript strip mall and I wish them 100 years of happiness and prosperity.

The meat that we ordered also came very slowly. The first round of meat that we ordered was very tasty, but the meat in every other round felt so dry and/or chewy/tough. Not sure if that was on purpose, but it felt a little disappointing (i guess it is all you can eat though). The side dishes were good. They charged us for an extra person on accident and we had to wait a good amount of time to resolve that.

And when you walk through the food court, its pretty evident from the lack of options and what's available. Chili Fries looks like they belonged on the food court from the third season of Stranger Things right next to Scoops Ahoy. Its got that super cheesy 80's vibe, and the photos on the menu are 100% stock that you could just Google and assemble. I wanted chicken before heading into a movie because my stomach was a little unsettled, and my wife agreed that we'd try them. Something compelled me to get the tenders and not the nuggets from the menu. While standing, I watched Showkat, the owner, prepare burgers for another customer and could tell that while it was prepared in house, it was mostly pre-prepared foods. Not bad at all, but not like I was getting a homemade burger that was seasoned. It was a frozen patty. And the fries were dumped into the frier straight from a bag. So why would I want to write a review, and why would I head back? Because what started to pique my interest was watching a little metal bowl be brought out and something sitting in the bowl that looked almost like grits or some other weird colored doughy object. Then he walked back to the side room, and I heard the sound of something cutting/slicing, and he walked back out with a skewer and a whole potato that had been spiralled. When my food came out, I had tots and my wife had the tornado fry skewer alongside this beautifully very uneven and different sized chicken pieces. There was something about the chicken that didn't look like the frozen patties I just watched be put on the grille. First bite into the chicken and it had a perfectly browned and peppered crust, was cooked fully through, and very moist and tender. It didn't dry out in the fryer, and the flavor was in every bite. Yes, its just chicken, but come on now. There's good chicken and there's GOOD chicken. And every bite had just as much flavor, even when there was no crust on it. My tots were okay, they were salted/peppered well, but the tornado fry that my wife had was another item of beauty: still soft, but lightly fried as you'd want it. There was just the right amount of seasoning to transform this ordinary potato into a fry, without it being overbearing. Showkat confirmed it for me. The chicken? Hand cut, hand trimmed, marinated, and then hand breaded until cooked. Same went for the tornado fries. Yup, most of what he prepared was re-prepared in his kitchen, and I'm not knocking that, but there's a hidden beauty here in these two items that are hand prepared. Luckily we happened to randomly order them our first time there! If we had ordered the nuggets or a burger? I don't know if I'd be raving this much or wanting to head back. Seriously. I haven't tried anything other than the tenders, but I won't. I don't need to. The man is a chicken genius, and that's all I need. I'd say that his chicken is the best fried chicken I've ever had. Better than Popeyes, KFC, Church's, and yes, even Ezell's. Oprah needs to get her hands on this stuff, because she's missing out. Matter of fact, no she doesn't. I don't need him selling out before I can get more.
