Non La is a Vietnamese cafe in Federal Way that serves a variety of coffee, tea, and traditional Vietnamese quick bites. I am always on the lookout for new food spots close to Tacoma. When I found this spot, I was eager to try it out! The location is in an area I have never been before. It's in a plaza with a few other businesses. There's free parking in the lot, too. The inside of the cafe is pretty small. Limited seating in there. A spot you would order from and take it out elsewhere. This has become a regular spot for us. I decided to try something new today and got the egg coffee. I've never had one before so I was a little hesitant but I've yet to be disappointed by anything on their menu so, why not? For anyone else curious it tastes like custard! My good friend had a frustrating experience at Non La that felt misleading. She ordered a lemongrass beef banh mi and did ask for extra cucumber, jalapeños, and pickles--but nowhere was it mentioned that these would come with additional charges. Even more surprising, she was charged $1.50 for extra pâté, which she never requested at all. What really made it worse is how minimal the "extras" actually were--just a thin slice of each item--yet I was charged $0.50 for cucumber, $0.60 for jalapeno, and $0.75 for pickles. If you're going to charge extra, at least be upfront about it and provide a reasonable portion. Transparency matters. Customers shouldn't be surprised by added charges, especially for small amounts of basic ingredients. Stopped by Non La and it was so good! I got the corn latte, egg coffee, and the meatball bánh mì. The corn latte was surprisingly really good -- sweet, creamy, and kind of comforting. The egg coffee was rich and thick on top, almost like a dessert but not too sweet. The meatball bánh mì was my favorite though. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft inside, and the meatballs were super flavorful and juicy. The pickled veggies added the perfect crunch and balance. The service was also really nice. Delicious banh mi sandwiches, super friendly staff and it's so cute inside. It is a bit small but you're just here for a sandwich and a drink. We got the lemongrass bahn mi, house special, the sunset ceremony. The sunset is a mango drink and I got 50% sweet and it was good, felt I could have gotten 25% and would still be delicious. They have some DELICIOUS Vietnamese coffee/ sweet drinks that are not only just visually pleasing but also actually really good!!!! I tried the oreo brulee matcha blended drink with mochi boba and it wasn't overly sweet and you could actually taste both the oreo and matcha! Mochi boba was super soft and chewy!!! We tried the new Saigonology drink which is supposed to be darker+stronger vietnamese coffee and it sure was super strong. We got it 25% sweet and it balanced well! The bahn mi's were also so tasty! The grilled pork wasn't too much sauce like some of the reviews we saw said. They have three different combos you can order which each one comes with a drink and sandwich! Awesome place for banh mi and drinks! Though I wished for a bit more on my banh mi... I went here with a friend on a Friday evening and parked pretty close to their front entrance. The inside is very casual with very few tables and that's about it; I do remember seeing a mural and their logo on their walls though. Coming here, I was most hyped-up about their menu, and even more so about their Vietnamese coffee choices despite it being past afternoon. I just thought, "Whatever, it's the weekend so I can take some caffeine," so I went for a grilled pork banh mi and an iced Vietnamese egg coffee at 50% sweetness - at 6pm. When you've had a lot of banh mi sandwiches, it's hard not to compare. That being said, I could tell the grilled pork here wasn't the kind of grilled that I wanted, and it had a lot of sauce coming out of it while I was eating. The seasoning was there, but I was not a fan of having grilled pork being soggy. Ratio between meat and other condiments was also way off, and skewed more towards having more meat. Not that it's bad having a lot more meat, but there isn't that ideal balance between the two. Baguette was crisp though, and somehow didn't turn as soggy as the meat even as I was eating. The egg coffee, though, hits the spot and more! The soft, creamy egg creme sits nicely on top of the relatively bitter coffee base, and the coffee was perfectly sweet when mixed in completely. The cup is also pretty big and they give you a lot, so I think this is worth it for just $7.25 before tax. While the banh mi isn't too great, their egg coffee is literally heaven for my taste buds. I got to chat a little with one of the employees behind the counter, and he said they've opened up for about a month or so at the time of this writing. I really appreciated how he asked us how we were doing and if our food tasted good, and how he also thanked us for the slight wait on our foods. If they can change up the banh mi flavor profile a little but keep their drinks as fabulous as they are, I can see them being a strong competitor for Vietnamese food in Federal Way. read more

Great place for good Vietnamese coffee! I got their Egg Viet Coffee and I really enjoyed it! I had 25% sweetness and the drink was definitely sweet enough for me. The drink had the traditional Vietnamese coffee taste that I love. It blended well with the egg foam and the foam was enjoyable as well! I also had their meatball banh mi and it was delicious! Definitely authentic and tasty. It is on the pricier side around $9. The service was pretty good. The employee was nice and helpful, and answered any questions we had. He was pretty knowledgeable and really helped out on my order. The drinks didn't take long to make as well. The drink was around $7.5 which I thought was good, especially for the size they give! The ambiance was somewhat good. I really liked the instrumental music they had in the background. The place is small and it's limited on seating. We just tried Nón Lá for the first time and were pleasantly surprised by our meal. We ordered the xíu mại (Vietnamese meatball), ham & egg, and our favorite garlic-glazed pork bánh mì -- and each one was flavorful and satisfying. What really stood out to us was the seasoning on the meat -- it was well balanced and delicious, with real depth of flavor that you don't always get at other banh mi places. One thing that set this shop apart from other spots we've tried was the pâté -- it tasted fresh, with a great texture that complemented the crispy-yet-soft baguette perfectly. Overall, everything felt crafted with care, and it's easy to see why customers keep coming back for more. I live down the street, so when I heard that they were opening a new banh mi shop, I knew that I wanted to give this place a try. There were 2 different banh mi shops at this same location previously, so I hope that this business has more success with their venture. The interior looks very similar to the previous 2 establishments. It's the same set with the ordering counter, but there's an updated mural on the wall. They also have a couple of tables if you wish to dine in. My boyfriend and I actually came for drinks. To our surprise, they had a buy 2 drinks, get 1 drink free promotion for their grand opening (free drink must be the same as one of the 2 drinks you paid for). I got the coconut mango yogurt blended drink, while my boyfriend opted for the pandan coffee. Both drinks were just okay. I didn't taste the coconut flavor in my drink. It was not overly sweet and I liked the tart yogurt flavor. However, I wish it was more creamy. It was on the icy side and had little icy bits that were less enjoyable. My boyfriend's coffee could have been stronger, and the cup is nearly all ice. Fortunately, he got a second coffee with the promotion, which improved the experience. These are things that we would keep in mind next time, if considering to try more of their drinks. The banh mi was surprisingly good, so I am glad that we got one to try. We ordered the house special, which includes lemongrass beef, sausage, meatball, and an egg. The beef contained minced lemongrass which provided excellent flavor. I was craving a Vietnamese sandwich so I figured I order from here for the first time for lunch. I ordered through Ubereat when the sandwich got to me it was still hot and warm so that was nice. I was looking forward to this place as I found them on Instagram and I liked their story of how they came to be. I have visited this location throughout the first banh mi and bubble tea location and to the current Non La and it's always been just okay. However, I have to admit that I won't be visiting much as the banh mis were just the saddest that I have seen so far of the several businesses. We got the chicken teriyaki banh mi and combination banh mi. They barely have any vegetables in the banh mi (see images) and arrangement of it was just sad. There was no flavor for their chicken teriyaki and I feel like there was barely any pate? It took several minutes to get our banh mi but I am not docking off stars for that as I understand we stopped by during their soft opening. But I assure you that in Federal Way, Tacoma, and Auburn where there are amazing banh mi locations, Non La has to set up their banh mi game. We haven't tried their drinks either cause it looked really expensive when other bubble tea, tea, or coffee places charge less. It seems some other reviews, people complain about the drinks too so probably a good thing we didn't get them. The main reason for the low rating is that they don't have an ambiance at all. They have a beautiful story but the place lacks soul or personality, as the only thing that really pops out is their adorable mural. There is no music playing either. The service was also lacking as we were acknowledged but there was again no hospitality or urgency. The person who gave us a smile was the male employee who was making our banh mis who did thank us for the wait. Whenever i crave Vietnamese food, banh mi usually isn't my go-to. My husband decided to grab me one after I requested him to buy some stuff from Hongkong market. He got me the chicken banh mi. One thing I dislike about sandwiches is sometimes the meat they put in it is extremely dry. The one I have eaten here however - super tender and moist. Whenever they're open and we're in the area, I make sure to order from here. My husband's go-to is their grilled pork one which he says tastes great as well. Service is amazing - quick and friendly. I have ordered food from Non La through DoorDash so I cannot comment on the inside of Non La. As a background, I tend to eat vegetarian. I love Non La because they have a vegan banh mi, and even though it doesn't have mayo or pate, it's still very flavorful with a good texture. The bread has always been crispy but not dry, and despite living 30 mins from Non La, my sandwiches have remained in good condition without falling apart from the sauces in the sandwich. The vegetables are always fresh and crispy, and I appreciate that they make an effort to have some skin on the cucumbers so there's crunch. The vegan meat is really good; my partner isn't vegetarian and opts for the vegan sandwich after trying mine the first time. I noticed from other comments that they felt the extra charges for toppings seemed overly expensive for what was given. While I cannot know what happened when those folks ordered, I will say that I have always ordered extra cucumbers on my sandwiches, which I believe was a $0.25 charge. I am always satisfied with the amount of cucumber I receive on my sandwiches and feel that the extra charge is worth it. As far as pricing goes, I find Non La to be the most reasonable restaurant for prices overall. Locally, most banh mis in my area are around $15/each. Non La's vegan banh mi with extra cucumbers, at least on DoorDash, is $10.25. It may be less expensive in person, sometimes DoorDash prices are a little extra to account for the cost to use DoorDash services. Based on my experiences, I find this to be really great pricing, and feel that the cost is worth the product I receive. Their pandan coffee is so good and $8 on DoorDash, which is more than competitive with local specialty coffee and boba stores in my opinion. I would think it would be hard to find cheaper coffee pretty much anywhere, if I'm honest. All that to say, Non La is a favorite in my household, and it's definitely worth trying. read more

I've ordered 3x on doordash and came in person once today. We live in Fife so this place is only 10 minutes away. I've had the beef, pork, and meatball banh mi. Even as a to go order they were still fresh, bread crispy, meat warm juicy and delicious. Obviously everything is better on the spot. When I ate at the restaurant, the meat juices were dripping everywhere and I dipped my bread in it. It was awesome, recommend doing that. As for drinks, I've ordered a Mango Snowy, Avocado Coffee Blended, Pandan Coffee, Corn Latte, Banana Latte, Mango Bilini and a Strawbery Matcha Latte. They were allllllllll goooooood!!!! HIGHLY recommend the Corn Latte served only on weekends, but honestly they're all good. Reading the reviews from their soft opening I can tell you that they've definitely improved. Their sandwiches look and taste fantastic. And their drinks are pretty and delicious. Give this place a try or another try if you want during soft opening. read more

The food is terrible here even though we were starving! My wife and I just bought 3 banh mi (sandwiches): a "grilled" pork, "grilled" chicken, and combo (cold cuts). This place has a concept of a concept of grilling at best. Both the "grilled" pork/chicken were stir fried. There's no grilling that happened here and the meat was drenched in sauce instead. The marinade is the same for both, so you lose your sense of what you're actually eating. It felt like eating some random Panda Express dish at best. If this is called grilled pork, then it's the equivalent of saying Jamie Oliver's fried rice is authentic. Keep in mind, we were both starving and both came to same conclusion. The owner should be ashamed to even call this Bánh Mì Thịt/Gà Nướng. Next is the cold cuts. How do you even mess this up? The spread of pate was so thin that there was little to no hint of it. The thin slices of meat (2 layers) made the sandwich seem cheap quality for $9.00. Yes, you could argue that prices have gone up and what not, and that's fair. However, the better approach would have been to increase the price by $1 or $2 and do it right instead of this hack job. Overall, 0 stars for the "grilled" pork/chicken and 1 for cold cuts, which averages this place to 0 star. read more

Saw a new place opened, so decided to check it out. I didn't get food, just a couple of milk tea. The drinks tasted horrible. I got the peach tea and the tiger latte. The drinks felt artificial and overly sweet. I asked for 75%, but it felt like it was 200% sweet. The boba was hard and flavorless. I literally felt that I was drinking plastic balls.
