I visited the store today to use a gift card that was purchased via Amazon by a friend for my birthday. I later learned that Amazon did not load card which caused a hassle for me trying to rectify the situation. The store staff was so patient and understanding as I stepped out of the line and spent a great deal of time on the phone with Amazon. Cullen was so helpful and gave me 15% off of my purchase and apologized. Although this was not a Total Wine issue, I was grateful at how the staff treated me as I dealt with this ordeal. read more

Merchant refused to fulfill stating website was wrong and they would not honor the website listing, was able to receive refund but that is not my problem the website(s) were inaccurate. This is the place to go if you're buying in bulk so I usually hit it close to the holiday season. In addition to regular discounts, around that time they always have additional coupons in their ads. They have, hands down, the largest selection of wine and beer from around the world and I love that you can make up a mixed six-pack of imported beers or buy them as singles. They also carry the large European liters of beer. And at the holidays, they have a really good selection of novelty liquor bottles and sets, as well as wine accessories. When we are on this side of town we always have to go here to see what they have. As a beer drinker they have a huge selection of beers from all over the country and world. We also were able to find some wine for a relative that we had previously not been able to find. In addition they also have a cigar room that has a small variety of cigars. I walked in looking for one thing and then walked out with probably 4 six packs. The front staff is very friendly and finding someone to help you is easy to find. We are all about the "more" - craft beer drinkers here. They have a nice selection of craft beer both local and national brands. They carry a year round beers and a large selection of seasonal choices. It is arranged nicely and it has always been a pleasant shopping experience when we go. The prices seem to be in line for the most part (a few items seem a little high but they offer coupons to email club members!) I wanted to take a second to review the Robious location of Total Wine & More, even though it's a national chain. The reason I'm such a fan are the wine and beer classes offered here. If you get on Total Wine's email list and choose this as your preferred location, you'll get invitations to classes like Spanish Wines, Sparkling Wines, etc. The classes are $25 each and they're quite a bargain. You must reserve a place in advance. I took a class in French wines here and, to be honest, I went in not knowing much about them. The class started with a pretty nice spread of cheeses, crackers and fruits you could fill a plate with to enjoy while you tasted the wines. The class itself was very informative. I learned a lot about French wines, how they are named, etc. The instructor opened the reds early and double-decanted each one so we'd get to taste them at their optimum. For the price we got to try a variety of wines and learned a lot. In addition, we got a discount if we chose to buy any of the wines we sampled. Even if you go to Total Wine not for a class, the staff is helpful and friendly. Again, if you join the email list, you'll learn about special events when they have big tastings set up throughout the store. Very cool. read more

As far as Richmond beer selections goes this is about as good as it gets. The staff however is terribly uneducated, but the mass selection somewhat outrules that. My advice... do your research online about types of beers you might like and then build your own 6 packs when you arrive. If you are looking for wine this is another great option, but again don't expect much help. read more

We frequent this Total Wine whenever we need to stock up on our favorites for a party or just the two of us. Absolutely love this place. They literally have everything you need in terms of alcohol (outside of liquor) and everything you didn't know you needed. The best part is this is the only place I have been able to find a certain apertif that is an excellent substitute to make James Bond's Vesper martini. Yeah, we get down like that with our booze. This TW recently made my personal Top Ten lists for excellent customer service when a specialist (patiently) worked with us to pick out wines and champagne for our wedding. We aren't wine connoisseurs, we just drink what we like. As you can imagine, we needed a bit more expertise to choose wines to suit different palates of a 150+ guest list. The young man was really nice and helpful. Even better, when he saw we were worried about whole cases just going to waste, he assured us that we could bring back any unopened bottles so long as the labels were intact. Say WHAT?! Totally did not know that before. The week after the wedding, they refunded us over $200 in unopened bottles of wine and champagne that the guests hadn't decimated. I really love this place and it is always my "go to" place to stock up on wine. They have an enormous selection that puts Kroger's wine section to shame. They have wine at the cheapest prices and also carry some wines that aren't carried anyplace else around here (the Yellow Tail "Reserve" Cabernet is my personal fave along with their Big Bold Red). Everything is nicely organized by type of wine as well as region. Chances are you will find just about any wine you are looking for here. They also have a nice selection of mircobrews as well as a small room near the front that is full of cigars. The staff is always very great (especially Janell) and very helpful at making suggestions based on personal favorites. I'm glad I discovered this place and will continue to buy my wine here instead of anyplace else from now on. read more

I've been coming here for years. The beer selection is on point and the staff is very helpful with wine and beer. This is one of the few places locally that has a sizable craft beer selection with things other than IPAs. Ive called on several occasions to check on certain beers and they almost always have them available. My father in law enjoys their cigar selection but wishes they had a cigar club. They do host tastings on Fridays and Saturdays. They also have a small snack selection, in the center isles with other host gifts and at the register. This is the only place I've seen these marzipan filled chocolates that are also vegan. All in all, I like this place. read more

Now, for my ending, TA-DA....Luce is a lady who works there and spent a decade or so in Italy...she knows Italian and French wine better than anyone who has ever assisted me in any wine store! Wife and I were spending the weekend in Richmond and stopped by this total wine to pick up a few things. Store itself is nice but when checking out the cashier requested to see both of our IDs. I had mine but my wife had left hers in the hotel so the cashier said she had to wait outside the building in 20 degree weather and refused to continue the transaction until my wife left. No thanks. Although I am not a wine drinker I find my self going here constantly. I guess I go for the "& More." The more I go for is Bitter Lemon, they are the only place I have found in the greater Richmond area that carry it. You would think a basic mixer would be easier to find, but it isn't. The store has a pretty good selection of mixers, much better then any grocery store around. Some of the mixers seem too out there, they sell some small batch tonic water that is $15.00. Hey if they can sell it good on them, seems crazy to me, but apparently it works with their business model. I guess the same could be said with Bitter Lemon.
