Once a year I go into Total Wine on River Street in Hackensack to buy lots of holiday gifts. ( sometimes they make a few trips if I give some gifts or presents to friends family colleagues doctors at holiday time or New Years! They are always patient and going into the store is really festive and fun - wonderful selections of wines- prices are the best - and I always get an education about the best wines to buy! Mike is one of the managers and all the staff follow his lead -they are patient they're friendly and they are warm and welcoming. Review is purely for cashiers poor customer service. The variety of liquors/wine is very good and the help from the employees on the floor is usually good as well. But then you have to pay and it is another experience. Not from all the employees at the register of course, but you do have a few employees that are just plain rude. How much do i have to expend to get a box and no a "go get one yourself" or if a couple of bottles, is it to much to ask for a paper bag? Listen, no issue grabing a box.. but the attitude is genually no customer friendly.. would it really be too much for them to just say: hey would you mind getting a box? My husband and I came here today to buy a case of Leinehugel's Summer Shandy since it is one of the few stores carrying it right now. It's $11.99 for a six pack, which is about regular price. They don't have a sign stating how much it would be for a case. I asked an employee how much for a case and he says $11.99 x 4. I'm like that can't be right because a case is usually cheaper than buying 4 seperate 6 packs. I looked on their website and for 2 12 packs it's a little under $40.00. So my husband gets the case, goes to the register and the cashier has to open the case so she can scan each 6 pack. So with tax it was $12.78. x 4 = $51.12. For a case of summer Shandy? No thank you. I have received some flyers in the past for Total Wine and decided to check it out on the way to a family Fourth of July dimmer. The store is huge, well laid out and very clean. Even during a pandemic holiday weekend, the staff was very nice and helpful. I picked up a 12 pack of Fat Tire, per my host's request. The only issue I had was that I was overcharged. I was very lucky in that I checked the receipt before leaving the store. My 12 pack was accidentally charged four times. I just went right over to Customer Service and they credited back the difference immediately. Still, a great experience overall. read more

I love Total Wine, I used to go to the old location once every week and now they have moved to nearby location and the new store is huge and pretty! It makes you feel like you are in the Whole Food and you won't feel like you are in a liquor stole. The new locations is very close to the old one, it's on the main street ane close to RT4 exit, if you are coming from RT4, you won't miss it. They even have a wine testing booth, conference room ( I am not too sure about the purpose though) and a cigar room in the store. The staffs are very friendly here, always check on you to see if you need any help, highly recommend this place to wine lovers! read more

Total Wine and More was a real let down today. The new location had their preview party today and they didn't have an item even though the site said that the location (Totowa NJ) had it in stock. Not only that, I asked about the free glasses and tote and was told not today, only for Thursday's grand opening however when I got home I decided to check it out and it said for the preview party. Then I called up and was just making sure this was the case and was told that they are all out of the totes and (some glasses were left over) and that they were for 7pm tonight. So tonight someone lied to me. I won't be going back to any location and just give my hard earned money somewhere else. There was even other issues but I'll just list all the issues. -no Apple Pay? It's 2022 get with the times -cashier didn't know about the tote and glasses -manager or supervisor lied about tote and glasses -customer service on the floor was nonexistent, not one person asked if they could help us with anything and when I had to approach someone he was clearly not trained properly because he didn't know where anything was -tons of corporate people standing around talking to each other acting like it was a frat party instead of trying to make sure everything runs smoothly -not having product after it says it's in stock online -the wrist bands made no sense because I saw them just give up and not use them anymore Over all, I was extremely underwhelmed from start to finish and I'm not going to recommend this entire company to anyone. Was on the website last night and it said they had EH Taylor and Blanton's bourbon. Both are very hard to find in this area since bourbon became popular. I got up and got to store at 930am to try and secure at least one. Went right to bourbon section, not there ! Ask one person stocking shelves. He doesn't work for store. Ask another and he tells me to find someone in spirits. Spirits guy tells me no we don't have it. Doesn't look, doesn't check a computer. When I ask him if he's sure, his response is "you must have googled it, you have to check the site" I did check the site, " then you where on the wrong store" nope on rivers edge. So I bring it up on my phone and go to customer service. Hoping they would at least check a computer. Nope customer service calls the spirit guy. He walks up, "I hope this isn't about blantons" was his response. Years of TW good will were wiped out recently due to a self-important rep named Laurie (Lori?) who was called to Customer Service to help. She walked over as if she owned the place and greeted me in a brusque, haughty manner. I was returning one bottle of wine and purchasing another half dozen. When she said that my return was not coming up on the screen I assured her that it was part of a purchase two weeks earlier. When I named some other bottles that were part of the order she took on a flippant, patronizing tone and kept interrupting me as I tried to ask a question about how that order was not logged in my account. I live nearby and enjoy wine. The staff that are on the floor are consistently rude, pushy and condescending. I have seen one gentleman, Twafik yell at customers and chase them out of the store. He routinely scowled at people that have-in his opinion- inferior wines in their carts and he will physically take bottles out of the cart and replace with others. I have been patient at first, then took to avoiding the "helpers" actively. Today was the last day I will shop at this store. I watched the staff do this with a female customer clearly frustrated but too intimidated to challenge it. They told me what I had chosen was bad (though laughably admitted they had never had it). When everything goes to plan with ordering and delivery, Total Wine is awesome. However, when it doesn't, buyer beware! I ordered a case of wine with standard delivery. I checked the order periodically over a few days and when it showed it had not been shipped I reached out to their customer service team. Crickets. About 4 days later I called them to find out the status. Turned out they had shipped my wine and it had been "delivered". Hmmm, I think not. So the customer service rep stated she would process a refund and at this point, I was impressed. The rep had seen my previous email inquiry (although no one bothered to respond to me) and given that this was my second follow up they offered a refund obviously understanding I wouldn't waste my time had I received my wine. However, I then received an email stating they were going to file a claim with Fed Ex and if Fed Ex stated it was delivered I should follow up with the bank for the refund as they won't provide one. Okay. I responded with a request to send the signed delivery slip since that is required upon delivery and of course, I knew I didn't sign for it, and they stated that I needed to follow up with Fex Ex directly. Since when does a company not take responsibility for delivery?! So..... my expectation is that I get a refund at some stage but if just be aware that if something goes wrong, you're stuck having to deal with a company who doesn't understand that things can go wrong and it's THEIR responsibility to make it right!!!! Normally I would give Total Wine a five star. Today was a big disappointment as far as customer service is concerned. I don't know his name. He was a very short old man with white hair. I had questions regarding their Mix6 and also a brand of wine I could not find. He was rude. I could not finish asking him a single question without him interrupting me. It was very frustrating. What's the point in having him there if you cannot finish a sentence without him interrupting? He knows nothing about customer service. I walked away from him. However today's experience was not up to par. When I asked a clerk who recently helped someone one else for something comparable to Monkey shoulder whiskey which they were out of in the size I wanted he said there wasn't anything and walked away from me. A few minutes later another clerk came by and asked if anyone needed help. I said I did. Another customer then walked up to him asked where the congnac was and he walked off with her to show her. The best person to see is Johnathon Eng, I'm a whiskey and bourbon drinker and met 'Johnny Spirits' as we call him while shopping one day years ago, he's such a friendly and knowledgeable person if you have questions he has answers and great recommendations. While the Union and West Orange locations are my local stores, I had the chance to check out the River Edge store recently. I should say first - no matter what location - there are great deals to be had at Total Wine. More importantly, the staff who work there are knowledgeable about the brands sold there, can actually answer your questions, and often will have spot-on recommendations. That is what sets Total Wine apart from other discount warehouse-style, alcoholic beverage stores. The River Edge location is MASSIVE! High ceilings and endless aisles lined with bottles and cases of beer. There's also cold cases filled wine and beer if you need something chilled and ready to be imbibed right away. I didn't check out the cigar humidor or tasting room because this was a quick visit to pick up our staples, but they are here and looked nice from afar. Because the size of the store, I think the staff are pretty busy and have to focus more on making sure all the aisles are stocked and the displays are maintained. At the other stores, which are considerably smaller, the staff are more engaging. When you enter the store, someone is sure to greet you. If you are looking at a shelf, staff will politely approach and ask if you need help. They'll give you advice and recommendations. While everyone walking the aisles was friendly and helpful when I approached them here, they didn't approach me first. It's a subtle difference and not a terrible thing; it's just a different feel (the character of this store). I will say that our cashier Adam was very friendly when my boyfriend and I checked out and that left a good impression on us. read more

I have lived in river edge for 10 years and had been a frequent customer at the previous location which I am pleased to see has been renovated into this beautiful, modern, wine emporium. I don't shop for wine or beer anywhere else. You can't beat the selection and price. Whats this new building: The new building is huge! It almost feels as if you are in a Home Depot or Lowe's. It is spacious beyond belief and is definitely the largest total one location I have ever written. Can you say alcoholic's paradise? The biggest liquor store in NJ does not disappoint. I don't even know where to begin... First of all, the inside is really nice looking. The other Total Wine (before they upgraded to this location) was kinda warehousey and reminded me of shopping at Home Depot. Not this place. It's got pretty faux wood floors, high ceilings and wide aisles. The bathroom is nicer than 90% of the restaurants I've been to. If I could, I would live here. For those who don't know, going to Total Wine is a field trip. Don't expect to stop in just for a couple of things. Grab a cart or you'll have your hands full in no time. Why? The variety is insane, to the point where it's almost mind boggling. As far as alcohol goes, they have pretty much anything you can think of in like 5 different sizes. They have things you haven't heard of or even thought could exist. I'm not much of a wine drinker but a good 1/3 of their bajillion square ft store is devoted to it. Their beer selection is vast too, there's even an entire aisle of single craft beers so you can make your own 6 pack. BUT THATS NOT ALL FOLKS! There's an aisle for snacks and mixers, glasses, pourers, aerators, gifts etc. There's even a wine tasting bar and a cigar humidor (whatever that is.) The prices are generally good, especially for run-of-the-mill items. The staff are very helpful, but be prepared to feel like you're shopping at the mall. Every employee that walks by you will ask if you need help and/or recommend things to you. They're always a bit overzealous to get you to buy Total Wine's own brand that they manufacture, but then again I'd much rather deal with an overzealous staff than one with no enthusiasm. There is one bad thing about this place though. You're guaranteed to spend more money than you originally planned on. Other than that, Total Wine rocks. Located just off Rt 4 and just down the road from where the old location was it is really convenient. They have everything you could possibly imagine when thinking of a liquor store and I too agree with Irene C. this place is like the whole foods of liquor stores. One thing that really stood out to me was they have two full kiosks of mini liquor bottles! Not one but two! I love buying these as little stocking stuffers and small gifts so that really made me happy. They have a lot of cute things like drink markers so no one mixes up their drinks. Not the most economical way to shop for booze, but at least you walk away with a variety of your choosing. This would be a decent Total Wine, except for a creepy little guy named Tawfik. He roams the aisles like a shark, and when you least expect it he will reach into your cart to remove a wine "that you won't like, trust me." Then just when you think he's gone, he reappears to put a wine in your cart that "is much better." He can't take a hint, and you've got to tell him "NO" about five or six times before he *might* leave you alone. If you smell stale cigarettes look around, he's probably sneaking up on you. At least he stays out of the beer aisles, and they have a great selection! read more
