I just experienced bad customer service at this SW Austin location. The cashier Kristina was on the phone when I approached the cashier registered to check out. Then she refused to scan my card for instacart because she said it is not required. I said ok. The transaction was declined. I showed her what the app direction were stating so I can get a PIN code to purchase. she refused again to scan. she goes on to state she worked for instacart for 4.5 years. I asked her twice why she is arguing not just scanning the card. Kristina at this location needs customer service training. The manager came over and finished the transaction. I will never go to this location again and I will tell me friends and family about this horrible experience. I suggest you go to their competitor Spec's and get top rate customer attention that this store lacks. read more

I wish I could make it 10 stars, no 20 stars, no endless stars! If I'm not home, I'm probably at Total! It is my home away from home. My husband and I discovered Total Wine while living in California. Our store there was one that we went to every Saturday with our dog and we knew everyone who worked there. We were sad to be moving back to Austin because we didn't think there was a Total here. After a quick search, we found out there was this one on Brodie. We used to live north, but would make the trek down every weekend to see them. Now that we live south, we are there all the time. We now have two dogs and they are the store mascots. Their picture is literally on the front door! When we walk in, us and the girls are welcomed with open arms. Lisa is the best at working the wine tastings. She can tell you anything you want or need to know. Laurie is the sweetest and so helpful! Bob is always giving us the best recommendations. I wish I could name everyone, but will work on updating this review as I remember everyone's names. We feel like family when we are there. Total is the ONLY liquor store in my book. I have brought so many people to Total and they have nothing but nice things to say. They are helpful; if you can't find something they know exactly where it is. If they don't have it, they will see what they can do to get it in store. Their prices can't be beat! They are very knowledgeable; if you ask someone a question they don't know they will work endlessly to find the answer and store it for helping others in the future. I've been shopping at Total Wine for years and it's always been great, until today. I currently have a temporary DL because I'm changing my last name to my married name. They wouldn't take my temporary DL saying that it's not an approved DL (even though it is a legal DL that a cop would accept). This is complete BS. DO NOT USE ONLINE ORDER DELIVERY. I recently learned a lesson using Total Wine & More's very ill-partnered delivery service. Someone brought a wrong order in decent time to my house. We noticed the erroneous bag together at my doorstep and she proceeded to take the delivery back to the store and my order is subsequently cancelled as I am informed by E-mail. I wait an entire week and receive a refund 13 dollars less than my original payment. I have spoken to customer service two weeks ago and they initiated a pass of my complaint to higher authority. On my end, I have seen the same result as taking no action at all. I am at a point now where it makes no more sense to spend any more time on getting my 13 dollars back as this as a fraction of what I can make spending that time actually working. A great new store in the Austin area. The layout is a different from Specs. The wines in each section are in alphabetical order instead of by high end wines to low end. Impressive beer selection. I typically like to do stuff for myself but someone asked if I needed any help and I said yes. I got a pretty good lesson in what sour ales and pale ales that I would have missed otherwise. He was super knowledgeable and though he wasn't a fan of sour ales like I am, he knew a lot about them and gave me great info. They have a lot of singles if you're wanting to try different stuff. I went to Total Wine and more Sunset Valley # 509 on Brodie Lane and I tried to buy 400 Conejos from Oxaca which is what I like and I wasn't sure if they had it so I asked the employee named Tony and another employee named Greg if they had it. At first they didn't acknowledge me at all. They were laughing and it seemed like they were making fun of me. I think they were racially targeting me. I mainly saw white employees there that were not helpful. The employees told me they didn't think they had that product and said I should go to another store but didn't bother to check for it. I thought I saw it on the shelf but they insisted that I go to another store to find the product and it was a very awkward situation. They were very rude and they were yelling at me and so I decided to go to another store to find it. I think they are discriminatory at Total Wine # 509 in Sunset Valley. Shame on you Greg and Tony from Total Wine at Sunset Valley. I was able to find my product at Spec's Brodie and I was treated very well by The Spec's Employees. We came to the Bordeaux wine tasting event here, had a great time particularly because of the staff. Learned way more than I've learned at any other wine class and enjoyed tasting 8 very good wines paired very well. Overall, it was a pretty amazing, well planned event with great wine and great food pairing, not to mention an arrival snack and drink. What I enjoyed most about the event was the level of detail provided about the origins and particular characteristics of each wine tasted, as well as how the process used to make them impacts the taste. Even before the event I had a chance to sample some honeysuckle vodka from a vendor, which I understand doesn't work for the store but his demeanor really added to the feel of the store overall. I also took some time to look around their wine and beer selection, both of which are pretty stellar, since we will be buying some for an event soon. read more

Total Wine is a total mistake. If you were charged with bringing an adult beverage to a party and have 30 minutes to procure said beverage, it's going to turn into 90 minutes of wine tasting, spritzer sipping, and beer sampling if you set foot into Total Wine. Phokus at the wine bar was knowledgeable and friendly. Beyond the 6-7 wines he was sampling he'd also prepared a Manhattan with a recipe. For a palate cleanser there were crackers and pre-cut gruyere cheese pieces. Those pieces weren't large enough for one older gentleman who coasted into the crowd, cut off half of the remaining cheese block, gave a wary look around at us imbibing sinners, and took off. It would seem we were not to be trusted. There's plenty of staff around to not judge your price point and help you find anything. It's refreshing to hear from people who've actually tried the stuff they're selling, giving you solid recommendations on new products and how they compare to whatever you're used to buying. Right next door is Nordstrom Rack. I'm not going to tell you how to plan your day or how to disappear for 4 hours, but it's important that you know. read more

Like, totally! Wine! I hate the name of this place. Besides the idiocy of the name, this place has it goin on! Most definitely the BEST prices on wine, beer, and liquor of anywhere I've ever been. Friendly sales people, really clean and well lit store, lots of samples, and even live music! I did find it irritating being carded like fifty times while in the store. I recommend having a door man who cards everyone when they walk in so that you eliminate the need for every sample person and the cashier to card. This is a much welcomed new store in Austin for me, and while it definitely doesn't replace all my other go to spots for Liquor/beer purposes it definitely fills a need and is a place I'll return to often and the lack of cash/credit card pricing compared to Specs is great. Have your cake and eat it too with their lower prices and get your Credit Card reward points to boot. It is a wine focused store as the name would suggest, and while I enjoy wine, I just don't buy a lot of it. Of the bottle of Pinot Grigio I most often buy though, I did notice that it was about 10% cheaper here at their normal price than I've ever seen it anywhere else even when on sale, and about 25% cheaper than your average corner store on any given day. $14 and change vs. ~$16-$20 elsewhere, so that is definitely noticeable. I browsed the beer section and they have an extensive collection of singles and a cider section as well with more ciders than I've seen in one spot for singles or otherwise, including WhichCraft which is Austin's only dedicated specialty craft beer store. The prices were very good and while it was organized strangely, there is a lot to choose from. As far as the liquor selection, it is overall very good, only slightly behind Spec's in terms of overall size and selection, but the prices on almost everything are better here. I cross checked about 30 items on their website compared to Spec's and Total Wine is the hands down winner with at worst, the same prices and generally about 10% better on most items in the $10-$80 range. And their website is useful which is a big plus. You can actually search the store you're interested in and see what is in stock and where it is located in the store, even. Some spirits definitely have better selections than others. The Rum section is quite good and they have a few very hard to find items in Austin, as well as a few nobody else in town carries. The Bourbon section surprisingly is actually lacking, and pales compared to Specs' Highland, Arbor Walk, and Brodie locations, as far as smaller distillery offerings, but again what is here including most people's staple bourbons are priced the best. The Scotch section is almost on par with Spec's, but a bit smaller. Gin section is good and their the only place in town that seems to carry Bloom, which I'd been looking for for a while. Tequila selection is very good. Vodka, seemed extensive and comparable to Specs, but I don't pay much attention to this category typically. Cognac/Armagnac selection was on medium side, but there typically isn't a large selection anywhere for this. I hoped with them being a wine specialty store, it might have bled over into the cognac selection as well, but no dice. A few sizes of certain bottles I've not seen elsewhere however, which is great. Liqueurs/Pisco/Cachaca/Absinthes/Others are adequate for most people's needs for sure, but selection of very specialty or quality brands of more obscure liquors and liqueurs is hit or miss compared to places like Austin Wine Merchant which do a great job with that. Overall, price wise, this is the spot to go to for liquor if you want a one stop shop. The staff in my limited experience are friendly and willing to help, but perhaps not the most knowledgable about liquor as I received quite a bit of blatantly false info, but I was dorking out a bit with my questions and probably their wine expertise is their focus. With just one location in town though, they're not putting anybody out of business any time soon, and hopefully a North location or more central one will happen at some point. read more

I was completely ecstatic to learn they were opening a location in my tiny South Central-ish bubble. And, in Virginia, they can't sell liquor at Total Wine... however in Texas they can, and it is glorious. Total Wine puts all other alcohol retailers to shame. The selection is amazing, the prices cannot be beat, and everyone who works here is super nice. It's like Toys R Us but for adults who like to consume booze. My only complaint about Total Wine is that there aren't more locations! The selection and prices are out of this world. I tell all my friends about it, and when I take people there I am constantly pointing to the low prices like "Look at that! Can you believe it? Unreal!". Generally, I always find the wine or spirits that I am seeking. Store personnel are always helpful. Amazing deals on some of the wines compared to other sellers and even to the wineries direct. Last trip, I forgot my cane and left it in a shopping cart in the parking lot. Next day, went back and found that one of the workers had spotted it and turned it in. That alone is worth an extra star as the cane had sentimental value. We have taken tasting classes there and have learned a lot about wines from their staff. Total Wine is a bit like a combination of Austin's two liquor-giants. It's got the spread and variety+ of Spec's, but the really classy hardwood decor/organization of the nicer Twin Liquors. And prices to beat them both! I'm big on bourbon and whisky, and this store has a really diverse selection. They've got beers and wines too... and their selection goes from the weirdest, cheapest stuff to the most high-class, locked-in-a-laser-vault expensive. They have some crazy in-store specials, so we usually go once a week just to sample stuff and restock our bar. We once got a 24 pack of Lonestar Light for under $10... best worst decision of my life. read more

During recent visits, when I have been to this location, I have received very poor service. Not only have the employees been unhelpful they have been almost hostile. They act as if I am "bothering " them. This is based on many visits over the past several months, approximately 25 to 30 visits. Your radio advertisement says you provide "world class service".
