My alcohol drinking days are long behind me, for various health reasons. I am heartened by the zero proof options that are available these days. It's nice to have the option to enjoy mocktails and adult-style beverages while still taking care of my other concerns. I went to Total Wine looking for NA Prosecco, as I was planning to serve mimosas for Easter brunch. One of their friendly, helpful staff members saw me with a puzzled look on my face and walked me over to the alcohol-free aisle. It was great to see options for liquor, wines, and beer, plus mixed drinks all without the buzz factor. She helped me locate the bubbly. There was a brand that I'd read about, plus another which was a pre-mixed mimosa option. I bought both bottles. They also carry Blue Moon N.A., and I bought a six pack for Dear Hubby. He asked me why, and I said that if he wanted the taste and knew that he was going to be drinking, he wouldn't have to worry about that combo. He tried it and said it wasn't quite the same, but he could enjoy it with a citrus twist which he likes. As for my Prosecco and orange juice adventure, it was great. I hadn't had champagne in a very long time and aided by the juice I couldn't tell the difference. Prices seemed fair, albeit I'm not up to date on what to expect. I may spring for one of the whiskey or rum options for sipping the prior and mixing the latter. This store and their knowledgeable staff has won my business. read more

I've been shopping at this location for years and usually enjoy it, but my most recent experience was frustrating and disappointing. On my first order, I purchased four handles of Crown Royal (marked $35.49 with a promotion for $2 off per bottle). Instead of receiving $8 off total, my receipt only reflected $2 off. On a second order, I was also charged $3.99 for a promotional gift bag that was supposed to be free (advertised as one per month). When I went back to politely ask about the issue, the cashier (named Chris) was dismissive and unprofessional. Instead of listening, he interrupted me, insisted we go look at the sign, then cut me off while I tried to explain the app and promotion. He brushed it off as "just $2" and told me not to keep explaining, walking to the register in a way that made me feel like I was being difficult--when in reality it was actually a $6 difference, not counting the bag charge. I didn't even bother mentioning the gift bag issue at that point because of how poorly the conversation went. For a store I've supported over time, spending hundreds of dollars, this was not the kind of treatment I expected. Chris came across as dismissive and made me feel like the problem was me, rather than taking the time to address a valid concern. ONE STAR - Racially Profiled and Falsely Accused at Total Wine & More (Thousand Oaks) - AVOID! Let me tell you, DO NOT SHOP at the Total Wine & More in Thousand Oaks until they make some serious and demonstrable changes. On April 15th, 2025, I, a regular customer, was racially profiled and falsely accused of concealing a beverage in my pocket. I was humiliatingly told to leave, despite having absolutely nothing on me. Turns out, a staff member thought they saw something on camera. When I calmly explained I'd placed a beverage inside one of the water chilling coolers while shopping, they found it exactly where I said. The kicker? NO APOLOGY was offered until I demanded one! And when I asked how they'd rectify this deeply upsetting situation, I was brushed off with a dismissive "nothing more the store could do." What's even more infuriating is the complete lack of meaningful response from management. While the store manager didn't bother to reply to my formal complaint, the corporate offices did eventually reach out. They offered a hollow apology for the "experience" but provided absolutely no information about any concrete action that would be taken as a result of their employee's racist act. My guess is that was due to legalities, leaving me with only the faintest hope that something will be done behind the scenes. Despite previously being a loyal customer because of their great selection and affordable prices, I can no longer shop here. My sense of being unwelcome and psychologically unsafe is paramount; human dignity has no price tag. Until I see tangible proof of serious changes - at the very least, the reprimanding of the employee(s) involved and mandatory cultural sensitivity training for all staff - I urge everyone, especially shoppers of color, to take their business elsewhere. This store clearly has a serious problem with how they treat their customers, and their leadership's vague apology and silence speak volumes. You've been warned! read more

She walked with me to pick up all three items, identified more economical alternatives, indicated when she was and was not familiar with the items I was seeking, and left to allow me to browse when I had my selections. Kevin was the gentleman who attempted to assist me, if me the client cannot recall exact names of brands that I am interested in buying instead of being condescending and tapping the labels and prices with one's pen and telling me that "don't I have the app to look at..." wait am I not the client and do you not understand that you should be more helpful, your in a business of providing great customer service. I love this place! It is totally awesome! They have a great selection of beer, although they have been switching to canned beer instead of bottled, but it is still great. They used to have a larger selection of international beer, but it was reduced in the last 2-3 years. They are the only place around that carry Weihenstephaner Vitus 6 pack. I also got 6 packs of Asahi and a new beer for me called Eel River. I think they deserve 5 stars, but the cashier we had this time was very rude (Evan), so that was detrimental to our experience. What happened to customer service? Receied some coupons in the mail from TW - the discount offered for wine is the same as every place else. This month I noticed a 10% discount on spirits and decided to buy some vodka. I misunderstood the offer - the discount it seems is only on house brands (which I've tried and don't like). I told the manager - "D" that the ad was misleading. He argued with me, saying it was clearly marked. He repeated himself and then I lost it - telling him to shove the ad. My bad. I apologize. What "D" should have said - "I'm sorry you misunderstood the ad sir. These specials are on our house brands (Direct® Spirits). The type is small. I checked the price of the premium vodka's at a supermarket - The price is almost the same within a $1. Not happy with the ad or the lack customer service. Awful establishment. I come here all the time and hardly ever get carded. I recently got dragged into stopping here with one of my buddies because he happened to be giving me a ride for all of 5 minutes. Funny enough, he wasn't even going to buy alcohol, initially. He wanted to stop to grab a cigar that I guess only this place has. Anyway he saw a bottle that he liked while we were in there, and ended up buying that too. The guy checking us out at the register cards both of us, (both adult males in our 40's, but whatever) and I didn't have my wallet on me. Now look, I know the rules, and fair is fair. But my problem was this guy tried claiming it's state law and store policy that it's illegal to buy alcohol if someone without an ID walks into the store with them. I could absolutely understand that if we were in our 20's or even early 30's. But if you have an ounce of common sense, you know the difference between what a 20 year old looks like compared to someone twice that age. I then told him I would just leave, but he said we were both banned from buying anything from the store for 24 hours, again telling us it was the store policy. I'm sorry but that's absolute BS. I even looked up their store policy and this guy just straight up made all of that up. Lied right to our faces. Not to mention, I see people in there with their kids all the time buying alcohol, with no problems at all, as it should be. Again, I know the rules. I understand stores have to card younger people to protect themselves. But this guy was just going out of his way to be a jerk for no reason at all. If all of this is truly the law & store policy as he claims, then how have I been able to purchase alcohol from this store without being carded? How are people that bring their kids with them able to purchase alcohol? Both of these happen regularly at this store. I don't have a problem with the rules, but I do have a problem with people trying to make things difficult for other people, just because they feel like it. We ended up going back to get my wallet, and then just went to buy the bottle at a different nearby liquor store, out of principle. Not only will I never shop at this store again, but I will actively warn others against spending their money at this establishment. I recently placed an online order for delivery on the total wine website that shopped the store in Thousand Oaks. Door dash either didn't pick up or stole half my order. Upon notifying the store the management got right on it and delivered the order directly to me himself. It wasn't total wines fault but they made the doordash error right and did it very fast. I'll definitely shop here again but maybe I'll do it in person from now on. But 5 stars for whomever I spoke to on the phone and handled my issue. read more

This store is a mess. I place an order to deliver 6 bottles of champagne to a friend. They sent her an email with the price saying there was an issue with the order. Upon calling and trying to reach a manager, the cashier said she couldn't get one, I said "then go find one" and she hung up on me. Upon calling back and reaching an English speaking manager, I explained I was livid that they would send the email with the price to the recipient. This was almost 400.00 worth of champagne. She ran the card then and there and of course there was no problem and no need for the email they sent to the recipient. The worst customer service possible. Not only has every single employee i've met been friendly and helpful (i must have talked to at least 20 of them by now), but they are even welcoming of my dog. She's a boxer and is always in training mode, and sometimes reacts to people who stare at her/stand over her, so some stores don't allow her. NOT HERE! We've been complimented on how well behaved she is, and we get smiles from all the staff. Even on a rainy day like this, where i would have been totally understanding if they didnt want dog paws tracking dirt through the store, they treat her, and myself, like family. P.S. cashier Ryan who works most closing shifts needs a serious raise, if not a promotion altogether. We never come to any other cashier because he's been top tier customer service and conversation since our first visit. Very rude staff every time I enter. Went to pick up a DoorDash order and the employee got mad at me for some thing a Dasher did a few days ago., threatening to just report any Dasher that park in front of the store. I told him I parked in the parking lot where it said to park on the app and that I am sorry that he had issues before with other Dashers and he just continue to be very rude to me besides this incident generally doesn't have people that are willing to help you find items. Employees search your name and harass you through social media when they get upset, which happened to me this weekend. Customer service was contacted already and no response. Asked for the managers name and was told that they can't release that info? But it's ok to release customer info? Now That doesn't make any sense. Maybe management and employees of this store should do some more training and also seek anger management. I don't know what I did to these people, considering it's my first time ever set foot in the store, but I don't think I've ever felt more unwanted than I did shopping here. I went here to find a beer that I've been searching for, and they had it. But when I went to the register, I was asked to go to another register, and once I moved, they started announcing that the register was open. At the other register they checked us out, but as we were leaving, the next customer got a complete 180 of service. I have my thoughts as to why it all happened, but whatever. Getting ready to head back home tomorrow, and was looking for a couple things that I cannot buy in the state of Nevada one of them being 1776 rye whiskey for when I make my Manhattans. I tried the local BevMo and the person there had no idea what I was talking about and needless to say they did not have it. Today I called up Total Wine and more and ask them if they carried it. Not only did they have it, but they were willing to hold it for me until I got up there. I made the trip with my good friend and also found some Myers rum, which I guess is hard to find these days for his wife and fellow Yelper... Yay! We have probably been here over 10 times and there are literally always soooo many drinks that we have never even heard of before. Nothing has changed. This place is still overrated. But I've discovered some of why and why I dread coming here each time I do. Today was the last time though. 1. Never, ever, trust what the inventory on their website says. It's always incorrect. Every time. They say everything is in stock. It's never correct. You get to the store and they never have what you were looking for. 2. Inventory is broad, but very shallow, just like Cable TV. They have a ton of stuff, but never what you actually want to buy. This place is for browsers. If you are looking for something specific, you're not going to find it here since they only stock like 2 of each thing and they seem to only restock once a year. This was my last time shopping at this store because it's just too frustrating looking for something specific and they never have it. Going back to Bevmo, which has less breadth of items, but has more of each one and constantly restocks. They also have this bizarre policy of putting $30 bottles behind security glass while leaving $200 bottles on the shelves. It's like management has zero common sense. UPDATE: I found what I needed... So what was supposed to be a trip to locate the Hello Kitty (Torti "L'Eleganza del Vino") wines, turned into an unexpected, sparkling wine tasting extravaganza! But yes, I did go with a HK wine...how could I resist?? The packaging is gorgeous... I got to try bubbly at 5 different price points (anyone a fan of Buzzfeed's Worth It?) and my Worth It winners were the Rondel Platinum Ltd Edition Cava at $12.99 and the Jaqueline Leonne Brut at about $14.99. They were so refreshing, light, and made excellent mimosas as well! Great for NYE! Highly recommend! Loved hearing the histories behind each bottle of bubbly. The manager (?) was very knowledgeable and professional, which made the tasting that much more enjoyable. As I perused the rest of the store, I was asked by no less than 3 different salesmen how I was doing and if I needed help finding anything! Marvelous! Wish there were some near me down in San Diego!
