    Fukuju bowl
    Katie M.

We arrived 15 minutes before opening, and there was no line. I would definitely recommend coming early to avoid the wait during peak dinner hours. We ordered their fukuju bowl and everything was incredibly fresh. The fish was flavorful, sweet, and the quality of the ingredients really stood out. The best part was mixing the soy sauce egg yolk on the side and pouring it over the rice, which made the bowl even richer and added another layer of flavor. Also, you can scan the QR code at the restaurant to get one hour of free parking, which is a nice perk.

Hands down the best meal we had in Honolulu, and that's saying a lot because we had a lot of amazing poke. All the fish in the bowl was sooo fresh, and the initial bite with everything plus the uni wrapped in seaweed is divine. Heavenly. The cabbage slaw with miso yuzu dressing and crispy ramen topping was also top tier - I have been on a yuzu kick ever since. I need them to open a location in the Bay Area stat!!!

Located on Piikoi St by Ala Moana, Totoya is a Japanese restaurant known for its negitoro bowls. I stopped by at lunch time and waited 15-20 minutes in line. There's no shade, so bring an umbrella or hat while you wait. There's no reservations, as it's walk-in only. When I got seated, I felt like I was transported to Japan. The staff greet you warmly when you sit. The restaurant is small, so it's important that you decide what to order right away. If it's really busy, you must preorder while standing in line outside. I got the nagomi and negitoro bowl with the egg yolk shoyu on top. The egg yolk shoyu is a must. When the bowls came out, I took a bite and was in heaven. The seafood is fresh and tasty. The textures combined with the high quality rice make a delicious meal. I got full after eating one bowl. It was so good! Highly recommend this place to locals and visitors.

Had a great meal at Totoya in Waikiki and ordered the Tokujo Bowl with a side of crab miso soup. The bowl felt extra indulgent in the best way, topped with a generous mix of fresh seafood that made every bite rich, creamy, and satisfying. Between the negitoro, uni, ikura, and other toppings, it definitely felt like a premium bowl and was worth splurging on if you're a seafood lover. The crab miso soup was also a nice addition and paired really well with the bowl. It added something warm and savory to balance out all the fresh fish. Overall, this ended up being one of my favorite meals in Waikiki--fresh, filling, and a great spot when you want a high-quality seafood bowl without needing a super formal dining experience. Would definitely come back for this again.

Yelp definitely led me astray with the wait times at Totoya. My wife and I stopped by on a Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. -- a full hour before they opened, in full anticipation that there would be a long line, and to our surprise, there was not a single party in line. Around 10:20 a.m., one couple showed, but at 11:00 when they opened, it was still only just our two parties in line. Five minutes before they opened, the waitress actually came out to take our order so they could get a head start on our orders (and because they felt bad that we had been waiting for so long outside). If you're stopping by early to wait, just be prepared to brave the hot sun, as there's no awning, trees, or shade to hide under. My wife ordered the Matsu bowl, while I ordered the Miyabi -- their Kaisen bowl with two pieces of tuna, negitoro, a sweet shrimp, three pieces of scallop, salmon roe and tobiko. We both opted to add the soy marinated egg. Many reviewers have mentioned that the uni doesn't really add much to the experience and I'd have to agree with them. The uni is fine, but it's not worth the extra splurge over the base bowl in my opinion. What makes Totoya a memorable experience for me was the high quality of all the ingredients. I loved the sweetness and tenderness of the shrimp and the scallop, and the negitoro had multiple layers of texture throughout. The fluffy rice is perfectly cooked and the soy marinated egg yolk oozes a wonderful richness that nicely complements the fish. If you want to change up the flavor profile even more, there is also fresh sesame seeds available at the table you can grind in as well. The kaisen bowls here definitely hold their own compared to the ones I had in Hokkaido last year -- absolutely delicious! I would not hesitate to stop by Totoya again if I'm in Oahu.

05/11/26. Came here w a friend to try for the first time and I would say it was delicious. Welcomed by three lovely staff who were all very attentive during our dinning experience. The interior was super cute and Japanesey which makes makes me wanna go back to Japan soon. I ordered the rainbow trio bowl ($25.9) which came w salmon, scallop, salmon roe and tobiko on top of rice. I upgraded my miso soup to crab miso soup (+$4.9) which I would recommend 100% as the soup contains rich crab flavor and much better than the regular soup. Overall, the sushi was super fresh and delightful. I got a stamp card and told them I will defiantly come back next year. Wait for it.

Every single bite is a party of poke in your mouth! It's located right across the street from Ala Moana Center and the line does start from opening hours. The inside seating is very limited but it's run very efficiently. The staff will take your orders while you're in line so that once you're seated, your food is served right away. There are 2 main types of bowls depending on whether you like minced toro (Negitoro) or mixed seafood (Kaizen), and you can still add additional seafood topping to your bowl. Egg yolk is highly recommended for added flavors to your bowl. If you're a seafood lover, get the Kaizen Fukuju where you have all the seafood toppings and can taste each of them distinctively

Probably my favorite chirashi bowl I've ever had - and we've been to Japan! Fresh fish and a mountain of food in a bowl, Totoya deserves the line that they get, and if you don't come early, you'll definitely see one! Nonetheless service was amazing and they get people in and out fairly quickly. Seating is limited, so be wary if you have a big group. They also have a fish egg bomb as an add on, and the experience for it is so fun! Highly recommend, especially if you're in Oahu :)

I literally felt like I was transported back to Japan! This was so yummy! This place was just across the street from the mall so was very convenient for us after some light shopping. There was a bit of a wait as there are only 8 seats available. But once seated, you get your food fairly quickly. Food was so fresh and delicious. I'm not a huge fan of ikura but it was so fresh and not at all fishy. Service was also great. 10/10 would definitely come again!

The hype is real, Totoya is incredible. Yes, the place is small and there's usually a line, but it's 100% worth it. I went on a Monday about an hour before closing and got lucky with no line. Honestly... it ended up being one of my favorite meals on the island. If you like raw seafood, you're going to love this place. I ordered the Fukuju, which is basically a little bit of everything: tuna, negitoro, red shrimp, salmon, scallops, sea urchin, salmon roe, tobiko, snow crab, and nori over white rice. It also comes with miso soup (I stuck with the original, but there are upgrades) and I had a hot green tea on the side. It was the perfect meal... So fresh!!! A few things to know: parking is very limited, so plan ahead. They don't take reservations, and because it's such a small spot (maybe around 8 seats), there's almost always a wait. I believe they have other locations too, so that could be a good option if this one is packed. Can't wait to go back.

Totoya you had me at your delicious Negitoro Don bowls and when they are as nicely handcrafted and served with such fresh ingredients as they are here, then you will be too! Located on Piikoi Street across the street from the Ala Moana Shopping Center, Totoya specializes in a Japanese speciality known as Negitoro Don which are fresh seafood bowls, which are minced tuna and other freshly sliced sashimi served on a bed of steamed sweet Japanese steamed rice. This is actually Totoya's second of three locations in the greater Honolulu area with this restaurant being in the most tourist friendly area of the city. What brought me here was the fact that Totoya came highly recommended by a number of food bloggers and influencers who like to dine here upon arriving in Honolulu. Having never hearing of it before I decided to do a little investigating on what exactly they serve at Totoya and I was thoroughly impressed with the freshness and overall quality of their cuisine. Also since I make it my daily obsession to go to the Ala Moana Center whenever I am in Waikiki, taking a extra few steps to where Totoya is located wasn't too much of a challenge. Upon arrival for the lunchtime crowd I was impressed by the rather large line that formed right outside of their front door. Thankfully that line wouldn't last too long as they have things running at a smooth pace as even from the outside of their restaurant, you could tell that their dining room wasn't too large at all. They also have plenty of copies of their menu that their staff passes around so diners can order ahead of time and upon being sat, they are ready to eat on their freshly sliced raw seafood. The menu at this location of Totoya is rather simple as it is a two sides menu with images of all the entrées they offer. On the front cover of their menu they featured their original Negitoro Bowls which emphasized bowls topped with tobiko, salmon roe, sea urchin among others. The backside of their menu featured a number of their "Kaisen Bowls" which featured a variety of seafood including fresh shrimp, scallops, and sliced fish. There was something about their Nagomi Bowl at $22.90 that was calling my name which was an enhancement on their original negitoro bowl topped with red shrimp, two pieces of sliced salmon, scallops, tobiko and two slices of nori. The server who was taking my order asked if I wanted to to be served with a raw egg and I was game to try it as I love adding in an egg to any meal. It wouldn't take too much longer to be sat down in their authetic sushi bar as people get up and are sat in due time. My beautiful bowl would make it to the counter in front of me in due time along my bowl of complimentary miso soup. It was a nice warm and cold meal with freshly sliced fish, scallops, a raw shrimp, seaweed, tobiko, and nori. It was a nice combination of flavors that I wouldn't get enough of as the raw egg yolk added to the umami of the entire combination of flavors. While dining in an atmosphere that was reminiscent of dining in a small restaurant in Tokyo, Totoya provided for a unique dining experience that one can only get while dining in Hawaii. With a total bill of $25.55 it was a reasonably priced meal that only made me want to come back for more, thanks to the flavors of their fresh, locally caught Hawaiian tuna, scallops, and salmon roe flown directly in from Japan. Why would anyone expect anything less? As the seafood and attentive service are the real deal when experience a unique dining experience at Totoya.

came around 1pm on a Sunday and there was no wait. the place actually only had two other parties. it was our first time but the staff took her time and explained to us how the menu worked. we received our food quick and it was presented really nicely. there is a guide on how to eat the negitoro as well. the food and service is amazing! i'm glad i was able to try this spot. the seafood was fresh. the only reason why i'm giving it a 4-star is because you can get tired of it after a while or half into your bowl. the meal is delicious but the texture and taste can be overpowering and made me hard to finish the bowl.

Tried Totoya and it was just okay. There was a line outside even though we were told no wait over the phone, which made it feel like hype. Seating was unorganized. They wouldn't seat us because a group of 8 ahead of us was waiting to be seated together, even though there were 2 open seats that stayed empty for a long time. Food was average. Pretty standard sushi bowls with nothing that stood out in this price range. Not bad, but not worth going out of the way for.

We attempted to make reservations, but they were completely booked until the following month. Since we didn't want to miss out, we decided to order their most popular tonkatsu meal to go instead. When we arrived, there were already a lot of people waiting outside. I went in to check on our order, and they let me know it would be another 10-15 minutes. Since it was a hot day, we wandered over to the crystal-themed shop next door while we waited. It had lots of interesting items to browse, although we ended up leaving empty handed. About 15 minutes later our order was ready, and we Ubered back to our hotel, which only took a few minutes. When we opened everything up, the portion felt a bit small for the price. The tonkatsu itself was tender, but for us it didn't quite live up to all the hype. I did appreciate that you can choose clam soup instead of the traditional miso soup, and there are different rice options as well, which is a nice touch. Overall, it was a good meal, but not one that completely wowed us given the price. It's possible the experience would have been different dining in, but with the long waitlist and the hot weather, takeout was the better choice for us.

There was a couple in front of us who said they come here every time they visit Hawaiʻi and that it's a must-do stop on every trip. When you walk in, it's a small place. You can watch a team member washing the noodles and portioning them into bowls right in front of you. Then you choose your bowl size, small or large, and select your broth. After that, you get to choose from a variety of fried items and other à la carte options displayed on a warmer. Seating can be limited because of how busy this place gets. You line up to get your food, pay for it, grab your condiments, utensils, and a cup of water, then find a seat and enjoy. I've already been here twice, and after writing about my experience, I need to make a third visit happen very soon!
