Kan Sushi is a AYCE restaurant available in only 3 locations across the US, with one of them being in Honolulu, on the out skirts of Waikiki along Ala Moana Blvd. For the OGs and locals, it took over another AYCE sushi/buffet location previously known as Todai. I went with my friend to take advantage of their weekday Lunch special which was priced competitively at $28.95. I really can't think of another place in the islands that offers AYCE sushi at this price point. My favorites were the ninja tuna, snowflake salmon, and the non-rice containing sushi rolls Salmon to the Moon, Roly Poly, Creamy S&S. Kan Sushi offers AYCE sushi for lunch and dinner. You can opt for general or premium AYCE (price difference). My boyfriend and I opted for regular dinner AYCE. We found street parking nearby, but also know Kan Sushi guests often park in a garage adjacent. I believe street parking is cheaper! We ordered a variety of rolls and nigiri. I appreciate how Kan sushi offers non-sushi foods such as tempura and meats. If doing AYCE, I'd recommend ordering two rolls at a time. They come slowly but are quite filling. To maximize on the fish, opt for nigiri or sashimi! Be sure not to order too much at once, as they charge for waste. The reason for the one-star dock is I found a hair in one of my nigiri. It was pressed into the rice, wedged in between the fish and rice. I didn't mention it to the staff because it happened towards the end of the night. I didn't want to cause any issues! Another issue I had was the amount of rice to fish. The staff were all very young, but hardworking. It wasn't too busy upon arrival, but grew busier with time. The restaurant felt understaffed, given the high demand of AYCE eaters. Our server was very good! He gave us plenty of napkins and ginger when we asked. Friendly too! Okayyy so the only reason I didn't give this a 1 star is because the manager Joseph is amazing & really made it his goal to make us leave happy and wanting to come back for HIM. We got all you can eat normal menu ($40), they also have other premium options at ($55 per person & above). So nice place that you'd expect good service, and execution. We only got one round of all you can eat sushi and at 10:25 we are trying to put another round of sushi ( we had one round ) and they're like oh not sure if we are still taking orders, last call passed. We never were told & again they had 35 mins until closing. We felt rushed & like a bother. After some hesitation from the crew, we got another round & they gave us frozen takoyki. All rolls were incorrect / rushed. They just threw random stuff on Cali rolls and pushed them out. The sushi was decent quality but not anything I'd pay the big price tag of $55 per person for. We notified the manager, Joseph, and he was sooo sweet and helpful! we appreciate it Joseph, even gave us his phone number & special nigiri off the premium menu & did everything to make it right. We went for lunch at $28.95 AYCE sushi (excluding the premium stuff) on a Sunday morning at 11 AM as soon as they opened. No lines. PROS: - very sweet server, very friendly - excellent price in Waikiki, or anywhere, for an AYCE! - everything tasted fresh - large selection of seating choices CONS: - frequently missing or messed up orders. My baked lobster roll went to another table and they tried to give us miso soup we didn't order. - extremely long waits for some items, inconsistently. For example, my Hot and Fresh roll came within a few minutes, but for my second order, it took over 35 minutes; the waitress was nice enough to pack it up for me to go since I wasn't happy about it. My co-worker said her record wait-time for sushi was 45 minutes for one order, I guess this is par for the course, given the hundreds of orders people place and can get mixed up, wrong, or not even show up. - water refills were not given automatically, we had to ask, and all three of our glasses were completely empty. Asking anyone other than our server went on deaf ears and completely flat affect with no response. NEUTRAL: - parking is available but it's pricey for local standards at $6.00/hr at Canterbury Place. If you want free parking, you'll have to go on a Sunday and walk from the streets, at the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor near the beach (limited free stalls), or buy something at Ala Moana Shopping Center and then walk to Kan Sushi (about an 18 min walk, but faster if you cut to the left of the Ala Wai Canal along the Ala Wai Blvd, right on Lipe'epe'e Street, modified left onto Hobron Lane (stop by Kulu Kulu cakes on Hobron before you go home), right onto Ena lane and left onto Ala Moana Blvd and Kan is right around the corner. TIPS: - you can supposedly order 4 things at a time, per person. If they let you order more, I'd go ahead and do it, since we were the first people into the restaurant, and the 8th to leave due to food coming out slowly or not at all. A huge group of about 25 people came in soon after, and that could have had something to do with it. - order the meats first since they come out first (and fast to cook compared to making a sushi roll by hand), then order the rolls. - make sure you stop by Kulu Kulu for sweets and pastries on Hobron Lane (walking distance) for a sweet treat after. I hear there is an ice cream shop underneath the building that Kan Sushi sits on, but Kulu Kulu is a well-deserved treat if you are willing to splurge for top-notch, 5- star sweets. read more

This AYCE restaurant combines my two favorite loves - Korean BBQ and sushi! The restaurant is right across from Fort DeRussy and diagonal to the Hilton Hawaiian Village. There is ample parking in the parking garage right behind the restaurant. We got here early (around 6pm) on a weekday. The place was not crowded yet but a flood of customers came in shortly after we arrived. The service was friendly but slow. There was only one server handling an entire section of around ten tables so we had to wait quite a while for our drinks and food to arrive. There needed to be at least one more server or server assistant to handle the multiple requests from guests. However, our server was patient and handled himself well. He knew we were waiting for quite a while to get our food and made sure to apologize and give us updates on the wait. The food was excellent. I wish I had taken more pictures but I was way too busy stuffing my mouth with all this goodness! There is a nice selection of meats, side dishes, and sushi rolls. You can upgrade to the premium meats for $20.00 more to get wagyu and other specials, however, we felt satisfied with the regular menu selections. Keep in mind that if one person decides to upgrade, everyone on the table has to upgrade is well. The price is reasonable ($38.95) and I much rather go here than Gens any day! We inquired about our food while took a while to come out, also asked for more water; even asking the waitress if they can clear off or table. Wasabi and ginger, which is typically provided first, came last; only asking for it multiple times. I absolutely love Kan Sushi! I ate here recently for the first time. It was my cheat meal for the week and I'm so glad we went here to fufill my sushi craving. It was a recommendation from a friend and was also rated pretty good on Yelp. I saw a video on Youtube as well and that's what sealed the deal for me. We ate here on a Saturday night around 7pm. I saw on Yelp that they don't take reservations over the phone for parties under 6 people so we had to do a walk in reservation only. We parked next door under the old Wailana Coffee House Restaurant since I heard it was cheaper than parking under Kan Sushi. I checked in at the front desk and our wait time was only 25mins. They take your phone # so that they can notify you via text message when your table was ready. We just waited outside until it was our turn and there was a good amount of people waiting too. They send you a link so that you can see what your position is in line on the waiting list just in case you want to explore the shops near by. While walking in, we noticed that the restaurant was really full. Waiters were running around and it seemed that our waiter was super busy so one of the managers took our order initially so that we didn't have to wait too long. We decided to go with the Premium AYCE price since we were ready to eat everything we could on the menu and the premium included the A5 Wagyu and Uni. Sadly, they were out of the A5 but we had free reign over everything else on the menu minus the drinks. We ordered about 7 items each for the first round and then ordered more as we finished each dish. As a door dasher when I get to a restaurant the food is supposed to be ready for me to pick up right away. That's the system door dash has in place to make it efficient for all parties involved. This restaurant, however, waits until someone shows up to pick up the order before they even begin to cook the food. Total fail. I had sushi with my husband last night and we ordered the Snowflake salmon (that was delicious!) creamy S&S, after rain roll, Bonnie and Clyde roll and a crunchy roll. I loved the after rain roll, creamy S&S and Snowflake salmon! The Bonnie and Clyde was really nice too! I was worried it was going to be too spicy for me but it had a nice kick, nothing too spicy. I was looking forward to the Yam Bam roll but didn't know that the sweet potato was on the outside of the roll and not on the inside. My mistake for not paying attention but it was still good! The restaurant wasn't busy, yet we waited a long time just to be seated. Then we waited to place our order, waited again to order additional items, and waited so long for a refill that I felt like I could have watched an entire movie. When the refill finally arrived, the server spilled it, and we had to wait all over again. Some of our orders never came out, while incorrect items kept being dropped at our table. We repeatedly had to flag down staff to return food that wasn't ours and check on missing items. To make matters worse, one of the servers who was delivering food was coughing continuously and even coughed while dropping food at our table, which was very concerning. I have come to Honolulu often for work, sometime even once a week from the mainland as I am a flight crew for an airline. My coworker and I wanted to try Hatsuhana in the Hilton Hawaiian Village, but they were closed for the day. We were craving for sushi and udon noodles soup so we saw Kan Sushi and that is directly across the street from the Hilton. We came here on a Sunday at Memorial weekend. It was busy, but we seated and waited on quickly. We were seated quickly and the wait staff brought us the menu immediately. We ended up trying for the lower tier all you can eat for $38/person. We can order anything off the menu that's under the "Regular orders" section of the menu. There is an upgraded menu price for $20 more and you can order anything off the menu, including the specialty rolls and such. We chose the lower tier $38 per person instead. To my surprise, the food items on the menu for that price is very extensive. I think there was at least 100 items you can order from anywhere from appetizers to soups to Korea, Korean bbq to sushi rolls. I know, we enjoy our all you can eat. The food is not amazing but it's very enjoyable. I actually add up all the food that we order and compare it to the regular price if we were ordered it individually. We easily ate more than $100 worth of food. The edamame we order if without the all you can eat is $6.95 alone and the udon noodle soup was about $15. I would definitely give this place another try when I come back for an overnight to see if it's consistent from my experience. read more

The wait time was around 25-30 min which wasn't too bad. While we were waiting though, we noticed that the tables would be cleared but not cleaned and people are not being seated. We quickly realize that the restaurant is probably short-staffed. When we finally came in and got seated, I absolutely swapped my seat with the one behind me because for whatever reason the back rest had a lot of bird poop all over it. I tried to put my bag down on the bay window and I noticed a bunch of bird poop over there too I really don't understand how that many birds can come in there and poop..i only got a pic of the window where I placed my bag. We finally got served but I noticed that the table behind me received a large binder so I didn't know what it was and I asked and the waitress said that it was just the menu and it's the same thing as the one on the QR code and that they had run out of menus. I had remembered reading that there was a time limit here and that even if you didn't receive all of your food before the end of the time, you were escorted and asked to leave. So I made sure that I ordered a lot at the initial order. For whatever reason, out of say, six plates, we only received two. So we would keep ordering every time the waitress would come because we're not getting our food. The time to get each plate was about 10 to 15 minutes and you can tell that this wasn't just us, but an issue throughout the entire restaurant because the parties near us were also shaking their legs and looking at their phones and asking where their food is. We tried to forgive it because we just assumed that the restaurant is short staffed. It definitely ruined the experience tho. I don't think we saw any of the staff members smile until we told the waitress that we were looking for our hot sake which we never got. Apparently, the waitress only got down the order for the more premium sake and not the hot sake - we ordered 2 hot sake and 1 premium. When the guy from the kitchen came to deliver our sake, he dropped off 2 shot glasses in a box with liquid. We thought it was the hot sake but the liquid and everything was cold. So we asked the guy how to drink it and he said that the liquid in the well is water that was supposed to keep the sake warm but it is now cold. so we were like....ok... thinking that the hot sake was actually ready for us but it was just sitting at the counter until someone was available to deliver. Whatever, we drank it and it was cold but smooth! When the waitress actually came back to ask us if we were going to drink this liquid, we told her what had happened and she said that this was not the hot sake but it was the more Premium One. We kinda rolled our eyes because on top of the slow service, we got charged for 2 premium..I guess she felt bad, she gave us a little smile and said she'll check on the hot sake. I think that was the only time that she actually smiled. She later came back and told us that they ran out of hot sake. That's also when we asked when is our scallop coming in, or if we got all of our orders. I didn't want to order more if I had something coming and I didnt want to be responsible to pay for uneaten food. She told us they don't know if you got your food or not as they only input the order and just assumes it gets delivered. This was our last night in Hawai'i. We were celebrating our move to the mainland after 20 yrs of me being here, a birthday and a promotion. The food was good but the slow service and bird poop ruined the experience. It already looked off when we got it but he ate it anyway. He said it "tasted like nothing". I know it was the albacore because only he got it and only he got sick. The dragon roll and baked lobster roll were both really good, and the beef belly was good too. Pork belly bao was okay- I wish they steamed the buns before they put the filling in, the buns were dry. Salmon skin roll tasted good but had way too much rice. Crab meat inari was a LIE it was imitation crab it still tasted good but I wish it was real crab haha Miso soup was super bland and had barely anything inside- 2 tiny pieces of seaweed and 2 little green onion garnishes. I will say though the espresso martini was one of the best I've ever had in my life. Great real coffee taste and was nice and frothy. Honestly if you're around here and have no other choices just go for drinks and get a couple of things Ala carte don't do the AYCE option. All you can eat sushi located close towards Ala Moana. We were looking into places to carb up and have dinner prior to the Honolulu marathon close to our hotel. We were staying at the Hilton Waikīkī Village and this was close by. They don't make reservations for more than 10 people when we tried to make a reservation. We walked by the day before to ask and the servers said it doesn't ever get busy. So when we showed up for dinner on a Saturday night, there was a line and we had to wait about 45 minutes so we were a little upset work that. It was busy night, there is a time limit. We had a group of 6 and we went with the regular menu. Our server was great and the food came out quickly, we got some soups, nigiri's, and rolls. It is a good bang for your buck. There isn't much parking nearby, unless you park by the Ala Moana center and walk or try to find another hotel parking garage nearby. read more

The ambiance was very nice, clean, casual attire. The service was friendly and our food was served fast. Excellent service! It was a bit pricey, but worth the experience. Definitely we all left there filling beyond stuffed. read more

A few of my friends wanted to get together for lunch on the 4th of July, they suggested Kan Sushi (old Todais) since we were all on that side of the island. We got there around 3pm and were seated immediately because the restaurant was pretty empty. We all decided to do the AYCE and it's $40 per person, you can upgrade to premium for $20 more but we said we would stick to the regular menu. One of my friends told me how good the honey soy beef belly is so we ordered that on our first order. I also ordered the salmon skin salad, fried oysters & fried calamari. The salad was okay, the salmon skin was more oily than crispy. The oysters and calamari were crispy and straight out the fryer so I ordered it again. I also ordered fries and the Hawaiian steak (which was basically teriyaki meat) The food took a while to come out, maybe they were short staffed because of the holiday but we flagged down our waitress about 45 minutes after waiting for the honey soy beef belly. She said she made a mistake and accidentally told the kitchen spicy beef belly so we said we would take that spicy too in the meantime...anyways that didn't come out right away either. We waited around 30 more minutes for the honey soy and spicy beef belly to finally get to our table, by then we were pretty full and didn't finish it all. The honey soy beef belly is really good though. I think this restaurant does have potential but they need to be a little more efficient with bringing out their dishes. I'm used to AYCE sushi restaurants in Vegas and they are really on top of it. Once you order, you get your food within minutes. Anyways, maybe I'll give this place another chance one day.
