What sets him apart from other doctors is that he actually is compassionate, will spend the extra time to make sure all your needs are taken care of, and make you feel welcomed each time you come in. I've been going to Dr. Chen for a few months and he is seriously the guy who changed my perspective of acupuncture. I was always skeptical but then I had some issue with a twitching eyebrow and he poked me with a few needles and after two sessions it was gone. He mentioned it was something to do with my liver and between session 1 and 2, I threw up bile in the morning. The twitching went away and from that moment, I was flabbergasted that it actually worked. For the record, I studied medicine in undergrad and grad so this was definitely the wow moment. At one point, I was unable to sleep at all. I was extremely averse to medication and initially refused any treatment. I found Dr. Chen and began acupuncture. I still wasn't sleeping, but after a few sessions, Dr. Chen gently advised me that I should consider taking medication. Because I trusted him, I listened. I took a short course of medication, and eventually I went back to sleeping like a baby. Dr. Chen was there throughout my entire period of suffering and healing, and I credit his expertise in acupuncture as an important part of my recovery. Before finding Dr. Chen, I had seen another acupuncturist who did absolutely nothing for me. The office was the definition of "Zen"--water sounds, beautiful scents, peaceful surroundings--and it cost a whole lot of money. And yet I was awake the entire time. Dr. Chen's office is the complete opposite. It is very no-frills, with bright lights and phones ringing. And somehow, every single time the needles are in, my body lets go. First Time and Great Results!…read more Hurt and shifted a disc in my lower spine. I was referred by a friend to CYY for a first time experience for Acupuncture. I tired compression braces, aleve, Icy hots, Solonpas patch's, yoga rollers, exercises and I kept re-injuring my lower back (3rd time). When I made my first visit I was on my 7th day of recovery and was not able to stand straight without a compression brace. Lower back was completely loosened after visit. 2nd visit I was able to move with full motion, no back brace. I stand all day and do mfg work so I highly recommend this place if you need to recover fast. Price was very affordable, since I spent about $125 at target for all the braces and medication. My lower back loosened up in one visit and I had a second to fully be able to twist. I feel I had a lot of pressure release with the acupuncture and cupping. Well. I've always believed in Eastern medicine, growing up. Come on now, this is a practice used…read moresince 3000 BC, I think these kung fu panda masters know what they're doing, or they wouldn't still be in business. All joking aside, I used to have a very severe sciatic nerve problem (some days it was hard to walk), and after going through treatment with an acupuncturist up in nor cal, my MRIs showed that I no longer had a sciatic problem, and I was almost completely pain free. At the time, another white dude that was also going through treatment claimed that she had healed his torn ACL- but I don't have any personal experience with that. Anyway, the bf sprained his ankle last weekend playing ball. It was swollen like a balloon. I think I also meanly referred to them as cankles. Well, his parents told him to go to Dr. Amy Aiping Sun in Rosemead to get it fixed and I offered to take him since I was in a car accident a couple months back and wanted to get it looked at as well, and didn't know who to go to in the area. (You really should choose your acupuncturists wisely, as some just really don't know the technique and poke away and maybe make your pain worse.) Anyway, she started to go to work on his foot. It was swollen, purple, and he had to crutch his way in to the second floor. Thank God for the elevator. There's no way we would have made it otherwise. About an hour later, she was done with him and he walked out of the clinic. What, you say? I don't belief. How can possible be? He wasn't able to put any pressure on his sprained foot before, and after the treatment, he could. I mean it doesn't get any more black and white than that. I guess you're also wondering what happened to me. Well, she started out the treatment by asking me where the pain was and what had happened. She began treatment with some needles, which didn't hurt too much. It just felt like a pinch. After the needles, she did some acupressure therapy (like massaging) and told me the problem was in this one area and that she needed to use the cupping technique to draw out the bad stuff. Well. The cups don't feel all that great. Just think of a glass cup, sucking your skin with a large amount of pressure. Luckily, it only lasted for a couple minutes. Then, she showed me this hardened clot of blood that was in my back (calcified?), and told me this was what was causing the pain. She said if I never took that out, I'd probably have pain for a long time. Four months after my car crash, after going through countless chiropractic visits, I am finally almost pain free (after only one visit!). It was like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders, except from my back. Anyway, I don't think acupuncture is for everyone. I think it definitely has its merits with alleviating pain. It's a practice that has been developed over thousands of years, though Westerners don't really understand it. It has to do with the yin-yang of your qi and drawing the bad stuff out, instead of battling it out internally with medicine. Though people here call it "alternative" medicine, I don't think it is an alternative for anything. I think poppin some vicodin for my pain would have been the alternative. Anyway, I am pretty drug free and rarely even take tylenol unless I have a fever. I likely won't need to (for pain) with Dr. Aiping around. This clinic is safe and clean, and Dr. Aiping uses new needles and has been doing it over 30 years, in case u were worried about that. She is awesome and really knew what she was doing in my case and the bf's case. I think they take some PPO insurances, but you'll have to check your plan for that. I went to see Dr. Sun a week ago for a tension headache and back pain that I had for 2 months…read more After some "yelp-ing", I decided to check out Dr. Sun because she had the most positive reviews. I went with my mom since it was my first time trying out acupuncture and I was pretty scared. Surprisingly, I didn't feel anything at all so don't be scared, newcomers! PROS: Really really clean office; Dr. Sun is friendly (can speak in Mandarin and English); all her needles are brand new. CONS: Price was way too expensive for me especially since I was running on a college budget. $65 for a 1 hr session (acupuncture + cupping + consultation) along with $75 for only half a bottle of herbal powder that was supposed to help with my "poor blood circulation" (as she said) and my headache. When I left her office, I didn't feel much of a difference. And, after 7 days of taking her herbal powder, I also didn't feel any better - still had that strange, lingering feeling in the back of my head and back pain. I don't recommend buying the herbal powder at all. My mom who frequents acupuncture offices and other clinics specializing in Eastern medicine said she was just okay and that she has seen better. I expected a lot more for the price I was paying, but sadly I didn't- won't be returning any time soon.
