This sushi place has been on my to try list for quite some time. I came here with a friend for dinner and was wowed with the happy hour specials. Each day has different specials but some days have $3 cocktails to $4 draft beers. When the food got there we were so hungry, I didn't get to take any picture but the sushi was delicious.

The Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen is so good! I loved the char on the chonkatsu, and the broth with the chili oil is perfection. I ordered with extra chonkatsu and extra egg. The Sonomono salad with shrimp was refreshing-very good! Just stopping by to give my review while ordering more ramen.

I think they are gearing up for a remodel or what, but if you are looking for ambience.well.... However The food was amazing!!! Everything was well prepared and super fresh. The server was nice and friendly. Attentive but not intrusive. I took her recommendation for the 183, and the tempura cheesecake, and was not disappointed. For the price I think it's an incredible value.

The first time trying this place out and we were welcomed to n with a friendly smile. They have an extensive menu but I was told to try out the bento box. There are so many choices. The one I settled on was Chef Choice of nigiri with your choice of a roll and two apps. I made all the right choices apparently. The peppered tuna slices were so thin and covered in crushed black pepper, tasted like bacon of the sea. The tofu agadashi was also deliciously crispy and tasty. The chicken Katsura was so crispy yet tender. Don't let this quiet, unassuming place fool you, the food is on point!

I must comment on their ramen. I was craving some ramen and sushi so my sister and I looked up some nearby restaurants, and this came up with high reviews. I was eager to see what the hype was about so we were happy that once we got to the restaurant, we were seated right away. We got the choose three sushi, and had spicy tuna, spicy crab, and Cajun calamari. Along with that I ordered char siu ramen with shoyu broth, which is a soy based broth. This was really good ramen, and the broth was very flavorful. I added some chili oil for some extra heat, and that raised the flavor profile of the dish. Overall, I enjoyed this greatly. As for the sushi, I didn't think the sushi was the best I've had, especially having eaten sushi in bigger cities. It didn't seem very fresh to me, and the only palatable one I enjoyed was the spicy crab. My sister also ordered char-siu ramen with tonkotsu broth, which is a pork bone based broth. She wasn't a fan of the broth and described it as tasting like water. After trying a bit of mine, she did like it.

I didn't give 5 Stars because of no mackerel fish. Otherwise, I'm experimenting with several other options. Hot tea drink. Lots of carry-out happening. I've asked for several octopus and tuna variations. All was REALLY good.

Yum! I will be back. Great food and service. I had the lunch bento with teriyaki shrimp, pepper, tuna, tuna roll, and Hotz's.

Had the Tougen Combo B: 3 special rolls + 2 regular rolls, $65 & the soft shell crab tempura. Delicious & fresh sushi. Soft shell crab tempura came with tempura squash, sweet potato, onion, rice & sauce. Friendly & efficient service. Decor is lacking, but the food made up for it. Would definitely return.

I don't know where to start. I really love this place. My family and I decided to try this place as a last minute birthday dinner 2 years ago. And we have been coming back almost every month since then. Their sushi is unmatched. I have never had sushi of such a stellar quality and freshness. Not only is their sushi amazing, but also their hibachi is the best in town, we order the steak hibachi with noodles and veggies (pictured below). The lamb and squid skewers are melt in your mouth delicious!!! Please try the Caddy Roll, the Crazy Dragon Roll, the Spicy Salmon roll... or anything! I have yet to have a roll I dislike from this establishment. Also the salmon nigiri is delicious and totally worth every penny!! The staff is extremely friendly. The owner is friendly and interactive and really helps his guests have a good time. The wait staff is attentive and does a great job while handling a full house and taking mobile orders all in the heat of a pandemic. (Which might I add this restaurant has done and continues to do a great job with cleanliness and sanitation throughout the past year and a half during COVID). Definitely give this place a try if you love sushi or any Japanese cuisine!

Definitely try a bento box. It's a great deal with a ton of flavors and textures.

Absolutely AMAZING! Their waitress was super attentive on waiting on us and refilling our drinks without ever asking. The sushi tasted great and they have a lot of options to choose from. Their chef even came out at one point to say "just one minute and 20 seconds left and you'll have your food" haha! Definitely will be returning again. read more

My husband and I stopped in here based on other Yelp reviews. It was wonderful! We didn't know until the end, but we were waited on by the owner. He was very kind and funny and his attitude alone added to our experience. My husband got a chicken teriyaki bento box and I got a nigiri bento box. Both were absolutely delicious. We got gyoza and spring rolls along with our meals and the traditional miso soup and salad. The restaurant itself was tastefully decorated and clean. We can't wait to go back and try the ramen! read more

Best sushi restaurant in Toledo, maybe the whole US. The first time I got sushi from this restaurant, I fell in love and over the past 2+ years it has been my most frequented and favorite place to eat out at. From their high quality fish to their solid list of appetizers and hibachi, I haven't had anything that I disliked from there. I suggest the Chirashi sushi dinner (lots of sashimi, on rice) if you like raw fish, or any of the hibachi dishes if you're not as into that. The Harumaki (spring rolls) are a great app also. Everything on the menu is a great choice though. read more

Great new restaurant! We just tried Tougen for the first time, opting for carry out for convenience. It was delicious! I appreciated the care taken to deal with my son's allergies. They bagged his items separately and labeled them...something that we have not experienced with any other restaurant for takeout. The yellowtail sushi was fresh and the octopus and spider rolls were equally delicious. My kids loved the hibachi beef with fried rice. The owner and staff are very nice and helpful. What was equally impressive was how fast the order was prepared. Tougen will definitely be in our rotation for sushi and hibachi! read more

I'm pretty particular when it comes to sushi, especially if I don't know of anyone who has checked out the place. But, I decided to give Tougen a try for the first time without any prior recommendations and I'm glad I did. I tried three speciality rolls, all of the spicy variety and everything was great! Presentation, taste, etc. What I did like a lot about Tougen was that one of the owners talked with me for a good bit and was very friendly. His mother was the server and she was so very pleasant too. This is definitely a place I recommend! read more

This was a really enjoyable spot. The place is small, but clean and comfortable. The food was great, prices are good. Some fun and inventive rolls, and the quality of the fish was very good. The owner was there, waiting on customers, and I believe he was doing the cooking too. The whole staff was very warm and polite. A nice little spot that I will definitely go back to. read more

My husband and I were hungry for sushi, and decided to try a new place. We settled on Tougen, and I'm so glad we did. The food was amazing, and the people are genuinely friendly. As a vegetarian, I was concerned that my options would be limited, but I was so wrong! I had the portabella mushroom roll, which was grilled over charcoal...I cannot say how great this tasted; a simple but delicious roll. I also had the tempura sweet potato roll with honey, which was completely great. My husband had the Maki roll, which he said tasted as great as it looked. The restaurant was very clean with a comfortable, homey atmosphere. We will definitely be returning to Tougen, and really recommend you give it a try. Next up the Vegetarian Delight! read more

We have come to Tougen for lunch twice. Each time was excellent! We shared 3 rolls- Tuna/Avocado, Portabello, and Alaska. Each was just perfect...fresh, light, and delicious. Miso soup and salad were good as well, and came with the 3-roll meal. Reasonably priced, fast, (although they were not busy at 1:30pm), and attentive server made for a very enjoyable lunch! Were are hoping this newcomer becomes a permanent addition to the Asian choices off Central Ave in Sylvania. Much better than the fast-food across the street at Sakura Express and about as fast! read more

Let me start by saying that I've never written a review for a restaurant. But I felt this was necessary. I've been doing low carb for as long as I can remember and no matter what I did, I always craved sushi, as Asian food as always been my go to. Being that it's extremely high in carbs I had to steer clear. By doing some investigating I eventually came across something called the Naruto roll which is basically thinly sliced cucumber. I decided to place my bet with this restaurant as they had a few different options for this specialty roll and boy was I happy that I did. I took one bite and realized that I had been missing out for no reason. My crab Naruto roll was fresh and as close to actual rice rolled sushi as you can get, extremely satisfying! I can only imagine what their normal sushi rolls taste like and I can't wait till the day that I get to try them this restaurant gets an A+++ from me read more

Toledo has become a city for great sushi. Although my favorite is still Kengo in downtown a number of others have raised their quality and offerings. Among them are Domo, Kyoto Ka, Kotobuki and the ever popular Nagoya in Perrysburg. Well folks there's a new player in town! Tougen opened about 4 months ago on Central near King. Small family restaurant with warm staff, clean but sparse layout (that's why only 4 stars) and awesome sushi! Our service was fast , friendly and accurate. Fresh fish, great miso soup and some of the best ginger dressing for their salad in the city. You'll also save some money as the location, size and simple fixtures allow them to be more than competitive. read more

I had started telling my wife "I can't believe something can taste this good!" The only other place in Toledo I would have something about which I would say this about was Souk. So I stopped coming in so often, but still once in a while in the hopes that they would go back to how they used to make it. I'd given up, but today broke down and went in today as I missed it so much. But my hopes were dashed as the roll was just pretty good. So I'll have to start the search to find another place to get my fix for rolls. Another thing is that during this time frame is how most of the time the salad comes out with just a bare dribble of dressing on it. So I guess a plausible explanation for this places downfall may simply be from skimping due to food costs.

I am hoping it wasn't just that it was dead, but that they actually have a better rhythm and service pace. If I had had a bad experience this time around again, it probably would've been my last visit. I am looking forward to coming back to Koi again. We ordered probably 10 alcoholic beverages between the table, at least 10 appetizers, and around 12 sushi rolls. We never sat without food. Our table was bussed almost the second we finished our plates, and our drinks were always full. They must've heard all the complaints and the music was turned much lower, we didn't have to yell above what sounded like club music. There was not as much of the overstimulating strobe light flashy dance club effect. The restrooms were spotless, the sushi bar was well staffed.

I bet it had 10 layers. The sauce was definitely made in-house. Not too sweet, not too bitter/sour. No dry pasta or burned edges. I opted to add some Italian sausage which was the perfect addition. The other person who ordered this added sausage and ground beef and said that his was perfect. Either way, you can't go wrong! Another person at our table ordered the butternut squash ravioli. She was kind enough to let me try a piece and it was absolutely amazing! She ordered it with the olive oil and garlic sauce, which was the perfect pairing. This was as good or better than the butternut squash ravioli at Martini's in Columbus. The pasta had great texture (definitely fresh pasta) and the filling wasn't gluey in any way (this filling can have a tendency for textural issues). I'm definitely ordering it on my next visit! Someone ordered the chicken and pesto sandwich and raved about it. The last person at the table ordered the linguine with olive oil, garlic and mushrooms and again, it was perfection. All entrees were served with bread (ahhhh, those great little nuggets of fresh baked bread, drizzled in butter and sprinkled with cheese...) and a really nice, fresh salad. I loved Tougen BEFORE I knew the owner was my neighbor! I was having a small dinner gathering and was seeking out scallop shells for serving and he gladly gave me 8 of theirs that they were scrapping, free of charge. I cleaned them up and they were beautiful and worked well for the purpose. We have since moved, but are still in the area and plan on returning as soon as possible. My husband and I love sushi and this was always and still is one of our go-to places, when we have money to order out. The restaurant is family owned and run and make everything fresh to order. Everything is DELICIOUS and made with pride. My husband doesn't say much but when I asked him how he would describe Tougen, he gave two thumbs up and said "They are VERY good; one of the best in the area, especially for the price" - and we have sampled many of the sushi places in our area. I wish I had photos to show, but you will just have to take my word for it and give them a try! Ordered delivery from DoorDash from Tougen and was really impressed. The food was thoughtfully prepared and even included a smiley face on my Japanese fried rice omelette ordered for my son. I loved the fresh gyoza and tangy salty sauce. My favorite was the avocado and cream cheese roll with soy wrapper. It was otherworldly. The rice was sweet and sticky and the sesame seeds perfectly toasted. I also had the zucchini tempura roll which was also really really great. There are a lot of sushi places in the Toledo area. Tougen is a hidden gem. If you are a fan of great sushi, hibachi, ramen, udon, and teriyaki but aren't a fan of packed restaurants with waiting lists and long lines, then you must check this place out. It is small and unassuming but the food is authentic and fresh. My son would rather eat the ramen here then food from any of the fast food restaurants. That is a huge compliment if you know 13 year old boys and their obsession with fast food. read more
