Have not used Toureen for a year or more - based on lack of availability etc. Scheduled a visit yesterday - not so long a wait now but someone called me back and said 'current rabies' and I noted yes, I'm working but she continued to ask about rabies, vet etc. I said I'll bring certificate in but she asked for vet again. I asked to speak to a manager and 'manager' came on line. Tory said 5-6 times the same thing and I said I have to get back to work and Tory said based on 'my tone' she was cancelling appointment. Customer service is poor. Toureen used to be better. read more

I hate that I have to do this BUT.... We've been coming here for the last 8+ years and after the horrible customer service I experienced from the manager, we will not be back. It's a shame because we've always had a great experience when dealing with the owner Chris. To the point that we would drive an HOUR just to come here. The manager didn't care to address my concern, apologized but blamed me for the issue and when I told her we probably won't be back because of the bad experience, she said that's fine, you can go elsewhere. When she went to get Kito from the back, I said horrible customer service! She shook her head and when I asked why she's shaking her head, she told me it's because I said something as soon as she turned around. I didn't say anything that I didn't already say to her face and I was not rude at all. At that moment she said that's fine! Go somewhere else!! If this is how they treat their valued customers, I definitely don't want to bring my dog here! Now reading over the horrible reviews, it's clear what's going on in this establishment. My dog came home twice with cuts, once on her face right under her eye and I was never told anything from the staff. I ended up having to take her to the emergency vet because my primary vet was concerned that she got a head injury. The staff was otherwise very helpful but they didn't inform me either time that my dog got hurt during daycare. read more

0 stars. We took our dog to Toureen for his first post quarantine grooming appointment. Our request for his haircut was simple, a short scissor cut and a paw trim. After 3 hours in grooming, we were given an 80 dollar bill to pay and our back our dog with huge mats behind each of his ears and on his stomach. When we brought this to the attention of the manager, she was quick to blame our dog. When speaking to the owner, his way of diffusing the situation was "how about we give you your money back, and you never come back". Up until recently I felt my dog was super happy and safe here. He attended a couple of times a month for about a year. However, he began coming home sick and with diarrhea, so bad it required a visit to our vet. Lauren appeared helpful and compassionate to this issue so that calmed my nerves. Soon after I received a call my dog was injured on a broken portion of fence at daycare and required surgery/stiches. He was sent to the vet next door. After he healed, and because I still felt the staff actually cared about my dog's well being, I sent him back twice. Thankfully the universe intervened and I crossed paths with a prior employee whom informed me of the real story of what happens when you send your pet there. This person had pictures and videos to back up the stories. Upon further recent investigation I heard from others how their pet came home sick and injured! I feel this place is unsafe. If you don't believe me ask for a tour and to see the back area where your pet is all day! I did and was denied...."staff only" I was told. Other daycares have video so you can check in on your pet, who to most is like their child. Our "babies" are there all day and at times overnight. Animals can't speak and it haunts me how nieve I was. I decided to post now because I can't stop thinking how others drop their pets off believing all is well. I do not recommend you bring your dog here for grooming! My golden retriever had the worse possible haircut... all chopped, uneven and shaved exposing his private parts when I asked for a trim. I was told it was a new groomer but obviously no training or supervision. read more

Disappointed in the communication. I have a big dog, he's goofy, friendly, but maybe impatient. On my 2 week trip, I reached out several times to check on him and got by back, "he's shy, but overall having a good time and is a good dog." Upon pickup, I was told he was aggressive although he never bit anyone nor growled at anyone. Like I said he's impatient and if they would have mentioned that, I would have let them know how to handle it. However, they blacklisted me after making several plans and booking other stays. Our Aussie loves Toureen!! So do we. Been going for 2+ years. We most use day care services, and we've used boarding and grooming services multiple times. The staff are great - think we've met most of them at this point - and we love their friendliness and the level of attention and care they provide. We've had staff members stop and say hi to us / our dog when we're out for regular walks away from Toureen... who does that these days? We've tried some other local pet services, and we've come back to Toureen. I just love that the staff work with us to make things right. When our Aussie still pulls us hard on his leash anxious to get inside after 2+ years of dog day care, that tells me all I need to know about how our dog feels. Won't go anywhere else. This place is awesome. I called on a Sunday in desperate need of a bath/hair cut for my mini goldendoodle, Daisy. Chris answered the phone and was super accommodating and friendly. The next morning I brought Daisy in for her appointment and the experience was great. Chris and the gal working at the reception desk were totally understanding of how I didn't want Daisy's hair cut too short, but enough to clean her up. They assured me they would call me if they felt they needed to take more off (due to possible matting). The end result was great! Daisy looked fabulous and she knew it too! She had the biggest smile on her face all day! I'm so glad to have discovered Toureen! read more

We have come here for the past two years. They have always been great to us, and our English Bulldog Gus loves going here.

The workers are the only good thing about this place. The owners put up a facade that's it's great and clean. They use bleach and cheap cleaning supplies that are not even dog safe. The dog to people ratio is unsafe. I feel bad for the people who work there really. My dog came home with kennel cough after being boarded there. Since she's vaccinated it wasn't that bad. Also came home with Giardia over 5 times. This place has cost me thousands of dollars in vet bills. If you do chose to board; pay the extra for the suite. That back Kennels are disgusting and sad. Also NO ONE STAYS OVERNIGHT to watch the dogs. Is that even legal? Everytime I picked my dog up she drinks a lot of water. Exactly like everyone said that left a 1 star review. Place is a lawsuit waiting to happen and needs to be shut down! read more

When we had to travel from the area and had no sitters to watch our two german Shepherds we were somewhat reluctant to bring them to a kennel but this is so much more and we were relieved to have that piece of mind. I just picked up my dog after the July 4 weekend. Despite the increased cost for the holiday break, they must not have had the staff or were overcrowded. I have used them once before and they were great but this time my dog was filthy and sick. After two baths he still reeks. I don't know what's wrong with these negative reviews, but I wouldn't listen to them. My dog Rosie goes here whenever needed and she ends up having a great time. They take care of her, groom her, and let her play with the dogs. I never had a bad experience there with them. The only "negative" review is that you can't watch the dogs play with each other. We boarded 2 of our dogs together in 1 suite for 2 nights. We've done this in the past at other boarders and are typically charged for 1 suite plus $10 more or so for the second pup. We were shocked and disappointed to be charged for 2 suites for 2 nights. We ended up paying over $500 for 2 dogs for the weekend - almost as expensive as our autograph hotel in downtown Nashville! We wish Toureen had clarified this before we boarded with them. Additionally, both of our dogs went to the bathroom twice as much as they usually do the afternoon/evening we picked them up. I'm not convinced they got enough time outside to use the bathroom. Needless to say, we will not be going back to Toureen as we have found some other boarders in Belmont and Arlington that charge half as much for two dogs. read more

I do not have enough good things to say about this place! I bring my mini Australian shepherd, Oakley here for daycare and he LOVES it! I was hesitant at the beginning - but I spoke to the owner Chris on the phone and he was so welcoming and inviting. Here they do half and full days of doggy daycare. Half days are 4 hours, within the time frame that you want and full days are also available. Oakley and I are frequent dog park visitors and I have met multiple owners who bring there dogs here! I can not recommend this place enough - everyone here is so wonderful and kind. 10/10! read more

So far, so good. I'm writing this review after about 5 visits, all of which were full day daycare sessions. A note: our dog got Kennel cough at another facility... it happens. We weren't upset with that place. Reviews blaming Toureen for a dog contracting kennel cough are unfair. Like children, dogs pick up germs, bacteria and viruses... And it's pretty hard to pinpoint the origin. PROS: The facility looks modern and clean. Everyone working there knows your dog. The employees wear uniforms, making it feel more like an actual business. I like that. They are friendly too. My dog seems to love it here and comes home exhausted every day. He also doesn't smell as bad as when he's come home from other daycares. Pricing is very fair for daycare, and buying a package makes Toureen the cheapest game in town, or at least on par with the cheapest. We like that aspect. There is also a small store inside to purchase food, toys, and general supplies. Prices seem reasonable. It's attached to an animal hospital/clinic, I think. Which seems like a great thing. CONS: The 6pm pick up has us rushing to get him, to avoid an overnight. I really wish it was extended to 6:30 at the bare minimum. No webcams to check up on my little guy. Very little Facebook activity in terms of posting pictures, in lieu of the cam. OVERALL: We like most everything about this place, except the pick up deadline. If you can't make 6pm, this might not be your place. We'll continue to use Toureen until we have a negative experience, although I don't anticipate that. If Toureen had a webcam and 7pm pick up time, it'd be perfect. read more

I would put 0 stars if I could. I boarded my dog here for a 2 night stay - it cost almost $200, and when we picked him up he was covered in SHIT. All over his paws and his belly. I noticed it the second they brought him out. I cannot even imagine what kind of conditions they are keeping the animals in here to allow this. It also shows they do not keep a close eye on the animals if they didn't notice he got so dirty and needed a bath. Or maybe they noticed and didn't care. I'm so angry and horrified. Do not leave your dog here. EDIT: one day after picking him up, and my dog has BLOODY DIARRHEA. I specifically asked they feed him his usual food, which I brought with me in a carefully measured out bag, because we know he has a very sensitive stomach. It's obvious they ignored that instruction. This facility should be SHUT DOWN. read more

Not impressed with Toureen. The lady answering the phones couldn't have cared less about any questions that I had. She made me feel like I was inconveniencing her. Getting my dog's records to them was a nightmare. They never confirmed when they had them. They need an online system. When I dropped her off I explained that getting her first cycle may be a possibility and I had requested that she not do puppy play, but individual play instead. They had no note of this request and the woman checking me in answered phones and checked in daycare doggies WHILE checking my dog in for the first time. My puppy was in heat during her stay. It was her first ever cycle. They never called me to let me to notify me and let me know how she was doing. I did not have a good feeling leaving my dog there, but didn't have much of a choice by that point. I won't use them again. I much prefer Pooch Hotel in Newton, where I can pick up my puppy no matter the time of day. read more

I don't know how else to say this: Toureen Pet Spa starved our dog. They grossly underfed him and caused him to suffer over Christmas vacation. If you care about your pet at all, and I'm sure you do, please, please do NOT board him or her with these people. I'm kicking myself that I did. Henry is our rescue dog. When my husband and I dropped him off at Toureen's on December 9th, he was a happy, healthy, 19-pound dog. When we picked him up on Dec. 28th, something was very, very wrong. Henry's ribs were sticking out and you could see every one of his vertebrae. His hip bones were jutting out. He looked anorexic. Toureen's had groomed him and stuck a holiday bandana on him, but underneath, he was all bones, and he had feces on his backside that nobody had wiped up. I felt sick when I realized what Henry had been through. He was so emaciated that my husband and I were worried about possible organ damage. We took him to the vet's, and she confirmed that our very small dog had lost three pounds in only nineteen days. Toureen's had drastically underfed him. Our dog had spent Christmas vacation hungry and suffering. We would now need to up his food intake and help him recover from his ordeal. The vet was so taken aback that she called Toureen's herself to say that she was "very concerned" about Henry's rapid weight loss. What had happened to our dog? Henry has boarded with other kennels before and never had a problem. Over vacation, my husband called Toureen's to make sure that the dog was OK, and nobody said, "He's rapidly losing weight and his ribs are sticking out." The person my husband spoke to said he was fine. But he wasn't. I asked Chris Toureen, the owner, to explain. Had Henry been sick? Had he, for the first time in his food-loving life, refused to eat? Was an unexperienced staff member left in charge of our dog? Unbelievably, this is was Chris's answer: He had spent time with the dog himself every day, and HE HAD NOT NOTICED. And somehow, none of his workers had noticed that our dog's bones were sticking out either. Incredible. It was like something out of the Stanford Prison Experiment. How on earth would anybody not notice? If you are reading this, and you are not a staff member at Toureen's, believe me: you'd notice. As I write this, Henry's ribs, vertebrae, and pelvis bones are clearly visible from ten feet away, and that is NOT normal. Everybody who has seen this dog since he got back from his "vacation" has said, "Oh my God, is he OK?" I realize in retrospect that we should never have left Henry with these people. We have pulled him out of day care and will never do business with Toureen's again. Please learn from Henry's terrible experience. No animal should spend Christmas vacation starving. read more

Pretty good place for day care and grooming, but if you have an old dog avoid the kennel at all costs for boarding. Our 16 year old stayed for a week last June and never fully recovered from the experience. I provided detailed instructions for care (printed copy) including explicit instructions to keep food and water off the floor as he could not see well. When we returned Doogal had sores on his legs from sitting in water and an eye infection to boot. The vet bill came to over a thousand bucks and he never was able to walk properly after this visit. I mentioned my disappointment and that they should disinfect the kennel to prevent other dogs contracting the same infection to the Toureen crew. Their supervisor simply made excuses (dog old and should not come anymore plus its not an infection its allergies - despite the vet diagnosis). Bottom line if your dog is old and you need to board him look elsewhere. read more

I just received a rude response from Chris about my previous reviews. I start looking at all the other reviews and notice that he did the same with each review that critiqued the business. He even went as far as to question the truth of one reviewer claiming that the woman was lying when she said her pet got kennel cough. The poor coverup of incubation for kennel cough being 7-10 days so the pet could of had it prior to coming in does not work when you write the SAME response to every person that stated their pet got kennel cough. As far as my experience, Chris read my review and made NO ATTEMPT to contact me after I picked up my pet with Kennel Cough. Instead me made a note of it in their system and when I called to discuss the situation he put me on hold purposely for 5 minutes then, with what turned into a heated argument, called me out on my review and said he didn't want to talk to me because I bashed the facility. Talk about customer service. Chris, look at the reviews, they're all saying the same thing- poor customer service and shady practices. Instead of spending time on Yelp trying to cover up the bad reviews, why not work on YOUR business. I would highly recommend taking the extra time to drive to Pet Smart in Cambridge; its like night and day with the two. read more

Brought my cat in for a nail trim upon a friends suggestion.. when we came to pick her up she was shaking..frightened never seen her like that. They cut too short resulting in bloody paws. We demanded our money back and that they pay for her to get examined. They offered to examine her themselves but she was terrified of them. We said we would prefer to bring her to our own vet and they agreed to cover the cost. Imagine my surprise when collections letters started coming for me to pay toureen for a visit that they not only agreed to pay for but that their poor care necessitated. A few comments about this place. - At the old location we boarded our 14 year old cocker spaniel for 2 weeks. They decided to shave his back legs, ended up tearing a growth he had on his back foot, and then he died shortly after. - They are now in a larger, newer facility. There is no outdoor space (the dogs relieve themselves in an indoor room) unless you pay extra for walks/play times. If you add on all the extra walks and play times, your kennel bill doubles. - Brought my dog here when the other kennel we had booked refused to take her on the day we were due to leave for vacation. We were very grateful to Toureen for being able to take her so last minute. - There is no reason to come here unless you are desperate. My kennel of choice (Crestview) is much cheaper and they have great (FREE) outdoor space for all the dogs. read more

They weren't open on New Year's day for pick-up. Odd as this is supposed be a 24/7 business for the dogs. Hope there was someone onsite that day yet I could understand no pick-up, I guess. Clerk who checked our dog in gave us assurance we wouldn't pay for that day since while we wanted to pick up they weren't open for pick-ups. We did pay for the "Suite Package" which at $69/day seems outrageous considering the 15 pound dog we have. Nothing too good for the dog, though, right? At the same time we were in a bind and didn't shop around. Of course, the clerk upon pickup doubted that agreement and the gentleman she checked with gave me a "No Way" attitude. Didn't even want to have the discussion relating to me that "Have you ever heard of a pet service that would offer that? No!" When I asked about customer service he gave me a line about them being in business for 70 years. A frequent yelper I always discount occasional bad reviews as someone that was too demanding and just was asking for free stuff. OTOH, not writing this ad as they made me pay for 6 days at $69/day vs the 5 days my wife agreed to. Writing it due to the attitude I received upon questioning my bill. Always a bad sign when any business is that antagonistic at first question. Funny, as I hadn't shopped around much, though upon looking I've found several better options in the area including an AirBNB service for pets called DogVacay. Rather have my dog in a loving home than in what looks/feels like a "the way we've always done it" building in an industrial area with very little obvious places for the dog to go outside. I had high hopes of this place by some reviews and the website. But after I picked up our pup we noticed the care isn't as good as we would have hoped. We dropped off our pup for a long weekend as we went away for a wedding across the country. When we picked him up, unlike other kennels we've used there was no report, no he did very well, barked, didn't bark, just a here you go you pay here. On our way home our pup threw up in the car, which he never has, and had nothing in his stomach. This was a 9AM and we were told he had been fed at this point. So either our dog has the fastest digestive track on the planet or they didn't feed him. When we got him home we looked him over and noticed he had cuts all long his ears. Which leads up to think that he was wrestling with other dogs and they're not broken up when they get too rough. Our pup is 7 months old and not fully grown. If they put him in the general dog population they should monitor him. The last straw was his bark. He doesn't bark very often but when he tried his voice was so strained that he couldn't. Leading me to think either A.) Those choke collars they use to walk the dogs bruised his throat, or B.) he was left in the kennel barking endlessly and ignored. Either way not what I would want for him. When we piked him up he seemed well taken care of but if you read in between the lines we would def go with another kennel next time we need to travel far. read more

I have boarded my dog at Toureen once before this past weekend, and he seemed fine when I picked him up. However, this weekend, I left him there for one night, and when I picked him up his hindquarters and tail were covered with feces and he was extremely dehydrated. The staff brought him out for me to pick up as if they didn't notice that he was just filthy and a little bit agitated. He was only there for 27 hours and had a walk just before I dropped him off, so I can only posit that he was left in a kennel without water and never let out at all. I was really horrified by this. I am happy he is home and safe, but I will never use Toureen again. read more

I have always been an ardent fan of Toureen and have recommended them to many of my friends in the past. Today, as I do every Spring, I took CoCo to be groomed. Last year, I was charged a certain amount and then a higher amount 6 weeks later due to 'increased costs'. This year, the costs were even higher which I don't understand. I feel that they charge arbitrarily depending on what they charged you before. In any case, I dropped off my dog at 9.30am and was told to pick him up at 4pm. When I asked why I couldn't drop him off later if they weren't going to get to him in the next few hours, they said that they do not accept afternoon dropoffs. So basically, my dog stayed at Toureen for 6.5 hours until I picked him up at 4pm. This is ridiculous. There is no reason why if you are that busy, you can't tell people to come in a little later if they can. For those that want to drop off their dogs in the morning to leave them there the whole day, that's fine but I don't think that rule should be applied to everyone. Also, I'm fanatical about checking my dog for ticks etc especially when I take him anywhere near woods. I picked CoCo up from Toureen nd was just checking to see if everything was fine (running my hands up and down his body and legs) and came across a rather large tick which I had to remove at home. I don't understand how a tick can go undetected while a dog is being groomed - hair cut, shampooed and brushed ??? CoCo came home and drank two full bowls of water. He never drinks that much water in one shot. He never has. That leads me to believe that they weren't given water at the facility either. I am happy with the haircut. They always do a good job with the grooming. It's the other stuff that really gets to me. I don't need to be concerned that my dog is going to come back with ticks when I'm taking him to be groomed nor do I like random charges. read more
