They always do a great job with my anxious dog who really does not like being groomed, especially getting his nails trimmed. We went to the vet for nail trims a few times and even with medication and a muzzle the techs struggled to get it done. Arthur is especially good with him, he is patient and kind and built a relationship with my dog and knows how to make the experience less stressful for him. 100% recommend! read more

I am new to the area and have been on the hunt for a new groomer for my 9 year old catahoula mix. We have had bad experiences at other places in the past so I try to take my time and research and ask others how their experiences were. I found Five Star online and had a colleague recommend it. I decided to make an appointment for basic grooming and ended up loving the results! My dog smells and looks great. The place isn't exactly aesthetically pleasing. The person who scheduled the appointment over the phone didn't practice customer service very well but that was the least of my worries. I get it. When I walked in there were dogs like everywhere and they all seemed pretty happy. And I liked the way one of the groomers was comforting the dog she was currently working on. Five Star Dog Salon was highly recommended by some others in town so I wanted to give it a try with my girl, Zola! The staff were very friendly and professional from the initial phone call consult, the drop off and pick up. Her grooming appointment took about 2 hours. Zola's teeth and nails look great, coat looks shiny and smells wonderful, and the groomers were attentive of my request to shave between her paw pads. The only negative is that she returned home with some patches of sap on her coat which I was hoping would have been cleaned after her bath and brushing. read more

I have 2 dogs. 80 pound golden doodle and 5 pound maltipoo. Our little dog had a history of being "aggressive" at places with inexperienced groomers such as big pet stores. I had a favorite groomer for years but he was so far away--1 hour each way. So I tried 5 Star and they were wonderful. My maltipoo has never been reported as aggressive in the 3 years I've been going. They tell me he does great. The groomers do ears, nails, beautiful cuts. The dogs look great. The dogs are not crated; there are 15 loose dogs in one big room. My maltipoo yips so much he was in a separate room (with lots of windows) because he barks so much. He is in there with another couple dogs who also bark incessantly. I totally understand as his barking drives me crazy too. The dogs hate going but they hate baths at home too. The dogs are obviously well cared for. I highly recommend this salon. read more

I first passed the Five Star Dog Salon on my way to get my wedding dress altered. The dogs in the window looked SO happy and cute, that I called my soon-to-be-husband and told him that once we were married we were getting a dog, and we'd take it to Five Star Dog Salon to get groomed. Well, long story short, we met the right dog for us -- an adorable rescued Shitzu -- and we've been going to Five Star Dog Salon ever since. They always do an amazing job and groom our dog beautifully and functionally for the weather and environment we live in. The prices are reasonable, the quality is stellar, it's super easy to schedule (or reschedule!) an appointment by phone, & the other dogs are friendly and happy any time we've stopped by. As soon as I walked in I didn't feel bad leaving my shihtzu/ yorkie who dislikes grooming and runs for the hills at the sound of water and hair dryers. I was greeted upon walking in and so was Chloe, they took her behind the desk and let her feel the place out. It looks like they even have a little waiting room for the dogs. They do not put them in a cage they let them roam. I was given an estimated timeframe when Chloe would be done. I was concerned since I had dropped her off before work and was worried I wouldn't be able to pick her up when she was done. They did say it wasn't an issue she did not have to be picked up right away. It all worked out great and she smelled good and I loved the bows( Chloe not so much) Highly recommend!!! When I came, there were so many dogs running around in a small space with dirty floors. Those that aren't getting cuts aren't getting any attention for hours. I don't think they took my pup out for the 5+ hours he was there and he does not pee inside, even on pee pads. They muzzle their dogs to cut, not a big fan of that. Most importantly, my shih-tzu mix came home terrified, shaking, and with a real jagged/uneven cut particularly around his face. You could see a line from the muzzle. Shaved my dog even though I asked for it longer. Not going back there. read more

My poor puppy is 14 years old! He's fragile, going blind and is partially deaf! But he's still in high spirits because he is surrounded by people that absolutely adore him! I wanted to be careful where I took Kurlie for his grooming because of his fragile state, being old isn't easy! I called them and told them about Kurlie but told them I could only go on Saturday because I work throughout the week, and they suggested I could come in on Saturday, but at 4:00 PM, so that way they wouldn't be too busy and could take their time with Kurlie. Kurlie is a very anxious dog, being a silky terrier, and when Saturday came, he didn't want me to leave him there, but when I got back, he looked adorable and taken care of! I'll come back and recommend this place to people who ask! They were super sweet with Kurlie, really great family owned business! And as always, SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES! read more

Contacted Five Star based on the last 2016 review from Christine about her elder dog and their great experience with grooming. My dog is older and I also need a Saturday appointment since I just started a new job and have very limited time off so I called and emailed Five Star. I did hear back promptly but was told generalized information about older dogs and that they don't take them on Saturdays. Of course everyone thinks their dog is great and I'm no exception. I currently have taken him to A Pet's Choice in Woburn for years and would continue to do so if they had Saturday hours. Five Star indicated older dogs get anxious because of the hectic nature of Saturdays and require a lot of extra care. A Pet's Choice has on average about 6 dogs when I drop my dog off and he just goes off by himself and has always been complimented on how easy he is to groom. Before refusing service to my dog on Saturday (offered weekdays which I can't do or I'd stay with A Pet's Choice), I would have preferred if Five Star had asked me some qualifying questions about my dog to determine if he would be ok on Saturday instead.
