I was visiting from out of town and stopped in for a coffee, and I'm so glad I did. I ordered the banana bread latte, and it was honestly one of the best novelty coffee drinks I've had in a long time. It actually tasted like banana bread without being overly sweet or artificial. I also tried the donut holes, and they were incredible. Everything felt thoughtfully made and exceeded my expectations. The workers were really outgoing and service was fast, My friend and I got the Banana Bread Latte and Banana Bread Matcha Latte. The staff member on the phone was so kind as I was trying to place a pick up order for my MIL to celebrate her discharge from the hospital post surgery but didn't know what time I would be able to come. She told me to place the order so that the donuts wouldn't sell out but that we could get them when we were free. I ordered 2 and they were so kind to give us a surprise 3rd on the house. That said, the donuts were soft and had a great flavor, albeit just a tad bit dry. Nothing a good cup of coffee or milk wouldn't fix lol. I also saw that they had lattes on their website. Definitely worth trying! I got the brown butter donut and it was good... slightly salty but it is called "The Salty Donut" lol. They use a brioche dough so its a nice soft texture to bite into. Super cute spot right on the corner of Camden and Park. I stopped in after an early morning run and it's the perfect breakfast, coffee, and/or sweet treat spot. I got a salted caramel latte and some oreo cake donut holes. The coffee was really good and I definitely would come back to try the cold brew and the teas. They have a nice menu with breakfast, vegan, and gluten free options. The donut holes were delicious, especially with the coffee. I was craving a donut and decided to try this spot out. The restaurant is in south end and parking was a little difficult to find, luckily I found on the street parking across the street! Before entering, I could tell I would be waiting. There was a line to the door. There is an option to order ahead, but for the sake of the experience, I decided to wait. There is only one cashier, who was ever helpful and friendly. After ordering at the counter, you wait on the other side of the restaurant for your order. The restaurant was full of natural light from the ceiling to floor windows and clean. The staff was friendly as well. I ordered the half dozen donuts for $26 and two banana crème matcha lattes. The donuts and drinks have separate pick up locations right beside each other and separate people preparing the orders. My donuts were ready shortly after ordering. I had to wait an additional 5 mins for my drinks. I wasn't aware of this earlier, but no sugar is added to the drinks. This would have been nice to know up front. However there are sugar packets available. I already left the restaurant before I came to this realization. In my half dozen order, I ordered the milk and cookies, brown butter and salt, mixed berry cheesecake, lemon ricotta, traditional, and tiramisu donuts. They were all delicious with brown butter and salt and lemon ricotta being my FAVORITES! Stopped by one afternoon for a sweet treat at The Salty Donut and holy cow was I blown away! During the week in mid afternoon and there was no one inside, but they still had a good amount of options to choose from. We got 4 donuts total 1) the Samoa Cookie which was just like the Girl Scout cookie, it had coconut caramel glaze with toasted coconut and a chocolate drizzle and then a layer of chocolate on the bottom. It was absolutely delicious! 2) the Milk and Cookies which was a sweat cream glaze with chocolate drizzle and cookie crunch. Another amazing choice!! 3) The Mixed Berry Cheesecake was quite possibly my favorite. A cheesecake filling and then a mixed berry glaze with graham cracker crumbs. To die for!! 4) last but certainly not least we got the Cookie Monster. Filled with edible cookie dough mixture, and topped with blue vanilla glaze and homemade cookie chunks and Oreo cookie crumbles, this donut was stellar. So on the way out, I perused the display and decided that Mrs. K. would be enjoying the Whipped Lemon Ricotta Bombolini. Not cheap at $4.30 but wow, amazing. Charlotte's South End shop opened in January 2023, and the company's since leaned into a fuller café program here. My take? I know I'm in the minority, but I just don't get it. Like some fast-growing brands, it can feel like coffee and lifestyle are the main product now, with donuts along for the ride. I've visited multiple times trying to find the hook that gets me excited to come back, and it hasn't clicked. I'd rather see small local spots like OMG Donuts or Yummm Donuts get that same attention and "donut budget." All that said, I get the appeal.. if The Salty was your spot elsewhere, having it in South End is nostalgic and convenient. First and foremost, kudos to the bravery of The Salty Donut for the display of donuts at the front. I barely resisted plastering my face against the protective glass almost drooling at the gorgeous display. I had the chance to stop by and get not one, not two but three donuts/ pastries (I couldn't choose one) and an iced coffee. I chose the cheese and jalapeño cragel, the honey butter cinnamon roll and a croissant. They were all fan-freakin-tastic! The softness of the croissant and the cragel were unbelievable and both were buttery and full of flavor. They May seem expensive but if you've ever made these at home with real ingredients then you'll understand why they are pricey. I can tell these are top shelf pastries and no short cuts are taken. I did a disservice by no heating up the cinnamon roll but regardless, still amazing. The iced coffee was really good too and had its own strong and distinctive flavor but was very smooth. The Salty as a chain is a 5, but I don't like this particular location for a few reasons... One being that 2 of the 3 times I've been the staff has been sort of rude. No greetings, lackluster energy and looked as though they didn't want to be there and we were bothering them by walking in. Today the service took incredibly long, we just ordered 4 donuts which should have been a quick grab. Also, the Salty in Atlanta seem to change up their donut selection quite frequently, but every time we come here they tend to have the same donut selection. The ambiance is pretty cute and swanky, one of the prettier buildings that Ive seen in the franchise. This is located in South End near downtown and has a parking deck attached to the building. The Salty validates parking or you can park on the street and pay .87 cents through the Park Mobile app. Definitely check out The Salty, I see a Ballantyne location is coming soon, and I hope they open a few more in the burbs. Let's face it, donuts are like pizza. It's hard to have a bad donut, because it's a donut. However, there are better ones out there, as this one just doesn't satisfy. The Salty charges a high amount and the product doesn't warrant that. They have a very aesthetic place in a very popular area, so they'll get foot traffic every day (free 2 hour parking validated in the parking garage too) but it's not a place I'd go back to. I'd rather have a grocery store bakery section donut or Dunkin for the better taste at a cheaper price. The service was good, indoor/outdoor seating is available, and there's a water filler station with glasses inside, however, I filled my glass with it and the water was cloudy so I dumped that out and ate my meal with no water. I also tried some sandwiches and French toast sticks. Sandwiches were very good, French toast sticks were way too sugary (I know it's a donut shop so things will be sweet but it was overpowering). My experience at the salty donut was great!! I was looking for a place to get good doughnuts for a while with unique flavors so I decided to check this place out. I didn't stay too long-it was a quick walk in and out-but the ambiance is nice! They have outlets in case you want to go in and do work. I went at 2ish and there was no one sitting inside and working though, but you could if you wanted to! The server was very kind and friendly! I got the brown butter and sea salt doughnut. I love brown butter so I really enjoyed it! It wasn't too sweet or anything as well. Only thing I would note is the actual dough tasted a little stale? It wasn't bad at all though so I don't want to mislead! I still really enjoyed the doughnut, it was just a little dryer than I expected. I ordered some birthday treats and a hot coffee from DoorDash. Wow! I really appreciated seeing a taped and sealed bag and inside taped boxes. The box is beautifully lined, and the presentation and delivery was given care. I ordered a half dozen with a buy one get one half off on the Boston cream, which came in the two smaller boxes. These are definitely gourmet donuts. I feel like the coffee had opportunities as it was meant to be assaulted caramel with a maple brown sugar syrup plus almond milk. All I could taste was decent/good hot coffee with an odd filmy almond milk blend. Maybe I did it wrong. I don't spend money on coffee though, I make cappuccinos and frothed coffee at home. I usually use Califia's toasted coconut almond milk so maybe this is why. I still didn't get the maple brown sugar or the salted caramel part of my coffee. Enough about the coffee let's talk donuts. If I had to rank best to needs opportunities here we go: 1) Brown Sugar & Salt x2, these were like sour cream or cake donuts 2)Boston Creme (haven't tried but this is my guess) 3) Pistachio Cannoli Creme, 4) Brown Sugar Cappuccino Creme?
