Has dim lighting in the dining area with upstairs and downstairs seating. There seemed to be regulars here. Everything started off well, we ordered a tempura appetizer that was pretty good with light batter. Sadly that was the extent of the good experience. After receiving the appetizer it took about 40 minutes to receive our main course sushi entrees. Aside from an apology there wasn't anything offered or comped for the long wait. All the sushi entrees we ordered were mediocre sadly. The quality of fish wasn't high. Unfortunately this is one of the few sushi restaurants in the area so I think that's why it has higher reviews. Service was just okay too. Based on this and the sushi quality I wouldn't recommend.

As we were about to place a to-go order, we asked for some water -- a seemingly simple request that caused the staff member to become outright furious. What happened next was completely unacceptable. While my daughter was finishing her water, the staff member suddenly shouted at us to "GET OUT." I asked him to repeat what he said, and he yelled again, escalating the situation. I even offered to pay for the water, but he continued to scream aggressively. This experience was not only unprofessional, it was outright hostile. No one should be treated this way in any establishment, let alone in a place of hospitality. Based on this encounter, it is clear that this individual lacks the temperament and customer service skills necessary to work in the food industry. Not a very great ambiance or atmosphere.

It's our first time here at Tian Ya BBQ which is a decent Korean-style AYCE BBQ restaurant in Barrie. We usually go to ones in Markham and/or North York. Their fried spring rolls and scallops (4/5) were delicious with a good crisp on the outside, giving you a crunch with every bite. The spring rolls could use some more filling. The Volcano Roll was enjoyable (3.5/5). We liked how they had fried batter on the outside to elevate the texture of the dish. The cream cheese was a delight. The portions were big. The actual Korean-style BBQ was okay (3/5). The kimchi was a bit salty for us. We were hoping it would have more of the tangy, fermented taste to it as well.
