Wonderful white tablecloth restaurant with service and food to match. We've been several times and though it is more expensive, the meals match the price point. By far, the best dinner we have had in the area! Went here for the nephew's 16th birthday party. Great tap beer list - lots of craft beer selections. I recommend the Creature Comforts Tropicalia IPA. I had the smoked duck breast appetizer, which was absolutely delicious!! Highlight of my meal, for sure. Entree was grouper steamed in rice paper. The taste was flavorful, but the rice paper got a bit gummy. Hubby had the butternut squash ravioli and loved it (probably because it had bacon on top!). He also enjoyed the caprese salad for openers. Dessert was crepes Suzette. Light and orangey - perfect! Everyone enjoyed everything they ordered, and it was all beautifully plated. read more

Unless you like to be cold when you eat DO NOT go here. The manager was even informed that the outside door we were seated next to had cold air blowing in I literally had to sit with my jacket on and still shivering. The manager reaction was to look over the banister, and see if downstairs door was open, and suggested that we move over one table, but still directly in front of the door, but only to still have cold air blowing. For the amount of money we spent to be cold, and have cold air blowing on you is ridiculous. Put up a curtain, add something to stop the air blowing in on anyone sitting on the other side of the fire place. The serve acted as if we were as special as the "Notte table", and totally treated us differently. We asked about an appetizer that the "Notte" table had been served only to be told that it was made special for them two. Oh...can we order it..."no not available that was only for that table, and we don't have any more of those ingredients". Obviously the feeling of how our server treated us wasn't incorrect to say the least had to ask for him to refill our drinks, and then acted as if we were bothering him, and to pour our drink by placing the pitcher onto the glass...gross! We just celebrated my husbands 60th birthday last night and everything was wonderful! I have enjoyed dining here for years. My only negative is that they are not open for lunch anymore. We were a party of 6. We had the halibut special....spectacular, duck....perfection, ribeye and strip.....mouthwatering!!!! Wine list, bartender, hostess and our waiter were all fantastic. No, not getting paid or part of a promotion. It is just how our night went and has always been the case when I dine here. In today's grumpy and depressing times, Town 220 is a refreshing change of pace! Beats any stuffy, snobbish and overpriced restaurant in Atlanta. I drive an hour here as well as Atlanta. Let me start off my saying, Until yesterday, Town 220 was one of our favorite restaurants! We typically frequent this restaurant for lunch and have a pleasant experience. Last night, June 15,2019, we decided to dine for dinner. At 7 pm we made the 34 mile drive from Conyers, starving, and looking forward to a wonderful meal with one another. When we arrived, we were quickly seated outside at our request, but then things quickly went downhill. We patiently sat for 30 minutes without even being offered water or our drink order taken. "Well, it's busy," I said, as my boyfriend was beyond irritated. Yes, it was busy. However, in that 30 minutes, we sat and quietly watched at least 3 white couples, to include the ones right next to us, get serviced before us. After about 40 minutes we quietly got up and departed, as it was very obvious that we were deliberately passed over for service, presumably due to our race. So we then made the 34 mile drive back to Conyers, as we don't believe in giving our money to establishments that obviously don't value us as customers. After this discrimination we will likely not ever return and will have to find us a new spot, but I didn't want to let it go unsaid that we are completely disappointed in the way in which we were treated!! read more

First time to this restaurant. The atmosphere is okay, somewhat like an elevated cafeteria. The bar is pretty nice. Came do to staying at the James Madison Inn. I went with one of there signature dishes, the lamb. The portion was good, but I found the dish to be rather bland and over cooked. Personally I don't like when restaurants serve mashed potatoes. They are simple and not much has to go into it. Nice restaurants should give you more. The vegetable medley was also bland and simple. Our service was good and the staff was friendly. Not very ethnically diverse or welcoming. Entree Food was meh ,just ok. Not bad but could use more seasoning. It doesn't look awful but needs more flavor. The Calamari was good. My water glass was dirty. Nice esthetics for the area but the atmosphere was very unpleasant. From the host stand to the service staff, even the patrons were visibly disturbed when we walked in. You could here a pin drop it got so quiet. We even overheard a male waiter say that he wasn't going to wait "their table ". It's a shame because we actually quadrupled out waitresses tip because she was pregnant and went above and beyond without any signs of prejudice like her coworkers. Food was rather bland... I had the Russian panini and husband had crab cakes. Crab cakes were good, but veggies & potatoes were bland. I'm not sure how to make a Russian panini bland but it was... no sauce came on it. French fries were mushy/soggy... didn't eat them. No offer to correct when I told the waiter,.... not the best service either. Ordered an extra side (fruit) because they will not substitute... Fruit was good. Atmosphere is nice... patio dining is available. Not terrible, but better options out there. Will pass up next time. read more

The waiter seemed quite moody and when I received my food it was cold. Upon asking for more napkins, I received none to no avail. Had lunch here today for 1st time. I really like the decor & ambiance. Very open dining area with very high ceilings. There's a patio out back with outdoor seating that would be a good spot to grab dinner. Let me start by saying the prices on their website are all off by $1-2. That being said, I was ok paying $11 for the burger. They use ground steak for the patty. It was one of the best tasting burger meats I've ever had. They top it w/ smoked Gouda cheese, bacon, & thousand island dressing. Very tasty & a large burger. Fries were crispy on outside & soft inside. Our server was very attentive especially with my Diet Coke refills. She was also nice. I'd return when next in the area. read more

Our first time here. We arrived at 8:30pm and was welcomed with a warm smile from The hostess who was also our server. The restaurant has a great atmosphere. It was real clean and classy. You can see the cooks cooking up the food in the kitchen through the big windows. The presentation of the food was on point. The food came out quick. The mushroom soup was delicious. The duck was amazing. Civiche was a little different. The steak rib eye needed just a little bit more seasoning. The baby back pork ribs was just okay. Maybe because it was the end of the night. We have been to this restaurant several times with wildly different results. I have had a delicious rib eye steak,and I have had over cooked steak, and I have had tough stringy steak. My husband's rib eye ordered for dinner there 2 weeks ago was tough, and went in the trash. The ambience is nice. Service is normally pretty good (although recently we had a server tell us the specials only to tell us they were out of one of them after i expressed an interest in it). Also, their sides are uninteresting (they ALWAYS have roasted vegetables to accompany the steaks - no baked potatoes or interesting Mac n cheese, or corn brûlée, burgundy mushrooms, etc) and the menu says you may not substitute anything. The bread and salads are unremarkable. My husband enjoys the raw oysters for an appetizer,while I have yet to find an appetizer on the menu that would tempt me twice. The desserts are good. I feel our meals at Town 220 are too expensive for the restaurant to fall short of a home run every time, and we are only getting a good meal there about 1 out of every 3 times. Best restaurant in town, rack of lamb and veal chop are perfection. They get ALL the details correct. Hot plates for hot food, beautiful cutlery and china, heavy steak knives, sugar caddies, glassware, etc. Gorgeous open space with 40 foot ceilings and a center fire pit. Best burger and fries on Earth at lunch (they grind their own beef), lobster bisque is incredibly deep in flavor, salmon carpaccio with green peppercorns, a cioppino that is San Fran worthy. Not the most imaginative menu, but this place would be a good restaurant in a major city. read more

We didn't expect a restaurant in this quaint little town to be spectacular...Boy! Were we surprised! We ordered the fried green tomato appetizer, cioppino, duck L'orange, and bread pudding. The fried green tomatoes was good. The roasted red pepper coulis pairs surprisingly well with the tomatoes and goat cheese. It's definitely an interesting pairing. The duck is so good! It was cooked well done but still maintain a decent moistness and tenderness. That skin is amazing! Fat was totally rendered, leaving thin crispy tasty skin...I was in duck skin heaven. Cioppino....OMG!! Fantastic!!! Even better than the ones we had in San Francisco. The thick broth has depth of flavors. The acidity, brininess, and sweetness were well balanced. The seafood is so fresh it's comparable to high end seafood restaurants in Atlanta. It's the best cioppino we ever had....If this wasn't an upscale restaurant, I would have pick up the bowl and lick it clean. Jack Daniel bread pudding - the name says it all. What sets it apart is the sauce - a soupy creamy sauce infused with...JACK DANIEL. Also, the sweetness is perfect for my preference...I don't like overly sweet desserts. The service is impeccable. Staff are not only super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, they are very attentive. Our dirty plates and silverware did not stay on the table for more than two minutes....I'm serious. By the way, we didn't lower our standard just because the restaurant is located in a small town. We agree that even if it is located in Atlanta, it would easily be one of our top 5 restaurants. This restaurant is absolutely amazing. The shrimp pomodoro pasta dish is absolutely delicious, I've never had anything like it else where. I get it every time I go. The French onion soup is great too. If you've come for historic stuff, there's a walking trail to the historic cemetery behind the restaurant. Loved this place. It's like an art gallery on the upper level. The painted hills sirloin was the best steak I have had in FOREVER. Sat at the bar and the bartender was nice and efficient. I will absolutely stay in Madison vs another surrounding town when I come to the area for work strictly to go to this amazing restaurant. The downtown is adorable and this place was perfection. Had dinner here Tuesday 9/27. Have to admit I was disappointed. I will start by saying the ambiance and service were excellent which is why I'm giving 2 stars. With that being said the food was just not impressive especially considering the experience level implied by the website about the chef... The oysters and escargot were delicious, but the mussels were bland and the sauce was extremely soupy and it wasn't served with crusty bread. My fiancé had the soup of the day a sweet potato bisque which was lovely, but the French onion soup was bland and quite a let down since the chef supposedly studied under a French chef. My father had the pork chop and it was cooked nicely and he said it was delightful, however my duck was dry and grossly overcooked, my fiancés fish special was incredibly over cooked and the sauce was horribly salty, our vegetables were under cooked, almost raw, and the mashed potatoes seemed like just that mashed potatoes with no seasoning, cream or butter ... we ordered 3 desserts, the Jack Daniels bread pudding which was okay but tasted a lot like they simply poured some booze over it and called it good, the creme brûlée was probably the worst I've ever had flavorless and barely sweet... the berries napoleon would have been good however the caramel sauce was burnt and I was shocked they served it! As a Chef of 15 years myself I was incredibly disappointed and won't recommend this restaurant to anyone. With the price and supposed skill level of the chef, who I believe owns the restaurant, he should be ashamed of himself for allowing such poorly prepared food to leave his kitchen... if you're looking for exceptional service staff they hit the mark, if you're looking for an excellent upscale meal however I would hard pass on this restaurant... read more

If you want hairy steaks, crusty boogers, or touched food, this is the place to go! This restaurant allows you to see through to the kitchen which is fine if they prepared the food properly. One chef took his bare hands and scooped the calamari onto a plate. The other chef took rib eyes and lined them up his bare arm from wrist to shoulder and seasoned them. As if either of these issues weren't enough to turn your stomach, there was also a server in the back picking her nose!!! I complained to the manager asking how the hell is that sanitary and her only response was well that's how it's done here and we have an A+ rating. We had already ordered our meals, but I sent mine right back. I will never tell or recommend anyone eating here. Disgusting. read more

My expensive steak was undercooked and the waiter didn't do anything to correct. It was very obvious how rare the steak was cooked. My wife's steak was overcooked and the waiter tried to convince my wife the steak was ok after he came back from the kitchen. It was so overcooked, my wife did not eat. I have not visited here since 2011 and over my husband's objections we came for dinner. You are usually safe with the specials, but not when it's rack of lamb apparently. My husband and son got rack of lamb and both were of the opinion that it had been heated in the microwave. I had the worst shrimp & grits and the other lady was convinced she was eating frozen shrimp because they were so salty. I should know better that to expect excellent cooked to order food when there are dozens of items on the menu - except in a diner, Mexican or Chinese. I know they must have good food because it has a fairly good reputation, I think it depends on what you order. So we spent $200 + for 4 people no liquor and no one was happy. It will be a few more years before I try this again. read more

There are not enough positive descriptive words to tell you about Town 220 Restaurant!! It requires a trip to Madison, Georgia to experience it for yourself. From the wonderful Chef, staff, ambiance to the fine dining, it is worth your time to make a stop and reservation at Town 220. The appetizers are plentiful and some of our favorites are the Calamari Fritti, Sashimi Ahi Tuna, Mozzarella Caprese, Escargot, Oysters and Salmon Carpaccio. The soups and salads are all to be desired. The steaks are hand-cut and always cooked to perfection. The Bourbon chicken and Rack of Lamb are over the top delicious. They offer fresh fish from grilled salmon, Tilapia, shrimp and grits to the super large Shrimp Lovers platter. The wine list is unbelievable. I wouldn't even know where to start. The staff is so knowledgeable and helpful about their selection. The bar is an awesome addition with super special drinks and always a nice pour. And last but not least, my favorite, the desserts. They always have special desserts so ask before you choose from the wonderful menu. (hopefully they will have pistachio bread pudding) You can never go wrong with the Berries Napoleon. A wonderful pastry dough stuffed with vanilla custard and fresh berries served with hot caramel sauce. Then you have a tough decision thereafter to choose from bread pudding, cheesecake, crème brulee, flourless chocolate cake and after dinner drinks. A great place to dine for special occasions to corporate dinners. I have visited here many, many times and will continue. read more

This restaurant surprised us. We were passing through town, and decided to have an early dinner. Town 220 sounded good. It's kind of a "dress up" place where people come to celebrate their special occasions.Staff is nice but could use a bit more professionalism. The chef's enthusiasm for cooking comes through his culinary creations. Food was delicious but a bit overpriced, and the desserts...I felt the French flare fell short. Slapped together, huge and not perfected. My napoleon was nothing like I would have gotten anywhere in Europe... nearly burnt French pastry, and overthought bitter, probably burnt caramel.
