I have had lunch here several times over the past year. I am a fan of their steamed mussels and flourless chocolate cake. No idea what the night crowd is like, but the lunch crowd is either business people or women in tennis outfits, looking like 45 year old Barbies. This is a good restaurant by all measures... service, good cocktails, good menu options but not too many, ambiance, etc, but I the food was "meh" which is the most important part. I had a calamari appetizer. The meat was chewy and the breading falls off most pieces before it gets off the plate. For the main course, I had a pork chop. Now, I LOVE pork dishes, especially when paired with apples and bacon, it's a classic combo that I can't get enough of. I basically order the pork dish every time at restaurants like this. So I am comparing against a lot of varieties of this dish. It was ... okay. The pork wasn't overcooked but it was like 10 seconds away from being overcooked and tough. I like seeing a little pink in the middle of a piece of pork. Otherwise, the entire plate was beige... no color or texture on the plate. The potatoes tasted good, well seasoned. The bacon/cabbage was really odd... it was served as a bed under the pork chop, but they were basically bland, grey and like noodles. I don't know how you cook the flavor out of bacon, but it was gone. Same for the roasted apples - they also lacked any texture of flavor. This dish is soooo easy to fix... let's get some crispy bacon pieces tossed in cabbage that's also still got some crunch to it let the juice of the hot pork chop on top add to the flavor. Add raw or barely cooked apples cut in matchsticks to add some texture and a sweet balance. Keep the potatoes as - is. Then this would be a 5 star dish. read more

Town 220 has the best atmosphere, food, and service of any restaurant outside of Atlanta hands down. We drive 30 miles from the lake Oconee area to eat here and we are never disappointed. Came here for New Years Eve. That had a great special and the food was amazing. Four courses with a great wine selection. My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous Cabernet. Like I said good was great but portions were way too big. We were a little miserable when we finished Bathrooms were ok. A little rustic compared to the dining area which was very casual and elegant. Linen table clothes, wine and water glasses, an open fireplace and Windows to see in the kitchen. I really enjoyed eating in that environment. I will say I haven't had bad service here yet. Wish I didn't feel the need to write this negative review, particularly as we're trying to rebound from covid. We go to town 220 about once per year. Love sitting outside on the back patio. I'm sensitive to sodium so I ordered the shrimp grits without gravy and took comfort that grits were made plain, not with cheese. So plate consisted of a small mound of grits, a generous portion of shrimp, and broccoli and carrots. The shrimp and vegetables were extraordinarily salty, basically all I could taste was salt . Ruined the dish. The waiter never checked on us so I couldn't let him know. If you go be careful to ask about salt. read more

Went there for the first time tonight. We loved it! The architecture of the building is beautiful when you walk in. The table was set with a fresh table cloth which was nice! Our waiter was knowledgeable and truly cared that we had a great experience. Also very accommodating with the substitutions I requested. We tried the calamari steak appetizer and it was amazing! My husband had the filet mignon with horseradish blue cheese crust with new potatoes, carrots, and sugar snap peas. It was the best steak he and I have ever tasted!!! I had the salmon with the same sides and it was also amazing. Then to top that off we shared shrimp risotto which was over the top amazing. I think I could have just made a meal out of the risotto!! Town 220 is beautiful, delicious and impressive! It is the perfect place to take visitors to show off beautiful Madison or just enjoy a meal with a friend. Housed in an old cotton warehouse and set off by a wall of two-story windows, Town 220 is full of natural light with a nice tree-top view of Bowl Springs Park. Paintings by local artists add interest and beauty to the interior as well. My husband and I recently took his brother and wife, who have literally traveled the world, to supper there. It did not disappoint. Everyone raved about the food! My pan-seared trout was a flat-out a trophy dish and the shrimp pomodora pasta won the night! Fantastic wine selection too. I've been several times and from my experience the back of house and bar are very good. The front of house and floor management has allot of opportunities. Overall, lack of training on the importance of guests, their reservation times, and knowledge of the menu and wines was disappointing. The floor manager spoke to us as if we didn't understand fine dining. The layout of the tables looked more like a high school cafeteria than a fine dining restaurant while the operation was more like casual dining. I ordered one special that at 7pm was 86'd. The hostesses never smiled or greeted anyone. The floor manager isn't friendly when issues are brought to her attention - she immediately took an offensive posture - which stated he restaurant wasn't interested in improving. Be good to have someone manage the front of house who knows how it should be run and how to train the staff on the floor. The kitchen and bar did their job very well. After several disappointing dinners, we will look elsewhere. read more

Passing through from out of town and wanted to get a good meal. The restaurant looked busy but I could see several tables. The hostess could not be bothered. She gave me an up and down assessment, and a sideways snide glance before telling us, "I don't think I'll be able to find you a table." She was so rude and condescending... I never actually wanted to punch someone in the face before... But then I remembered I'm angry with someone who looks down on me because she's a HOSTESS at the nicest restaurant in a small town that's essentially in the middle of nowhere. I went to Town 220 for a holiday party. The server was super nice and the entire staff did a good job accommodating such a large party. I had some oysters, which were delicious and fresh. I had the the iceberg wedge salad with the house dressing for the appetizer. The house dressing was SO good! For my entree I ordered the tuna steak which came with sauteed spinach and rice. The tuna was a little overcooked and the rice was under-cooked (not edible). The portion sizes were pretty big. For dessert I got the chocolate cake, which was very rich. It was more like a chocolate mousse slice instead of a slice of cake, but it was still delicious. Overall, it was a good experience and I would go back. read more

Madison is a small Georgia town that, due to it's proximity to the lakes and easy access to the interstate to Atlanta and Augusta, is growing at a fast pace. Town 220 is definitely upscale from other restaurants in this area. The atmosphere is a little more like something one would find in Atlanta. The food is really very good. You are going to pay a little more than at other restaurants in the area, but we feel that the higher prices are justified by the exceptional service (6-stars), delicious chef-prepared food (5-1/2 stars), and pleasant atmosphere (4-3/4 stars). read more

We stopped here for lunch on a drive from Charleston to Birmingham. We sat outside on the terrace for our meal. I had fresh mahi mahi and my hubby had a monte cristo sandwich. I've been to Town 220 numerous times and I'm never disappointed. The atmosphere is fresh and fun. Clientele at lunch are largely business people. Never have seen anyone in a tennis skirt (as a previous reviewer commented on.) Love their steak and pommes frites. Portions are good sized but not over sized. Wait staff are friendly, effeciently and courteous. They don't hover, which I appreciate. The bar has a nice selection of premium liquors and signature cocktails. I drink scotch and like their selection of single malts. Wine list is average to good but not extensive. They have a patio in the back which is fun to eat out on a warm summer evening or during lunch. They can accommodate large parties but I've never been there with more than 6 people. All in all, it is some of the best food you can have short of driving to Athens or Atlanta. I highly recommend it. read more

I came here with my parents on a day trip to Madison,Ga. We like to visit small towns for fun. This charming town was voted 1 of 5 Best Small Towns in Georgia. Indeed it was so cute, clean and has that small hometown warmth. I saw that Town 220 had the most and best ratings on Yelp so I gave it a try. The menu contained mostly average lunch sandwiches and American steak, fish, pork chop and pasta kind of dinner. The special of the day was impressive. There was a grilled chicken and peach salad that my mom thought was so good. The Barramundi fish with crab meat and mashed potato patty was amazing. My dad is a picky eater when it comes to American food but he loved the Barramundi special. It was flaky and buttery. The crab meat was fresh and plentiful. I had the Monte Cristo. It was a turkey and cheese sandwich deep fried. The sandwich was so soft wrapped around a thin and crispy shell. The fruit preserve made the sandwich really special. The fruit served on the side a good call instead of fries. The sweet tea was either super good or I must have been thirsty. The service was fast and very friendly. Everytime I'm in Madison I make it a point to have dinner here. There isn't a restaurant this nice for 30+ miles. I'd have to drive into Atlanta or Athens to find food this good.
