Worst service EVER. The waitstaff needs to take a few courses in customer service. After waiting over 10 minutes to even get served we asked for creamer for our coffee (crazy I know) we received an eye roll along with an obnoxious "CAN I TAKE YOUR ORDER" from our waitress. The only reason we stayed any longer was because we got an amusement at the amount of people we saw being ignored, waving down a member of the waitstaff and eventually getting up and walking out. In a total of 30 minutes 6 tables walked out and about 3 brave tables around us (who got there about the same time as we did) where still there attempting to wave down a staff member. Ok. Well how do I even start. Have you ever seen that movie "Waiting"? That would've been a better experience. Me and 3 buddies had just gotten done with a hunting trip yesterday and were starving for some real cooked food, none of that fast food stuff. We decided to stop here since the parking lot was packed and thought it must be decent. Turned out that it was busy because it's the only diner around. Anyway, we went in and were told "just sit anywhere". We scanned the dining area and saw a ton of dirty tables and finally found one almost clean table in the back so we took our seat. After about 5 minutes a waitress came and took our drink order. When she returned she had menus but no drinks and it was another 10 minutes or so before they brought our 3 sweet teas and 1 water. We then reluctantly placed our orders. Nothing crazy just simple breakfast style food. We waited, no joke, almost a full hour before our food arrived and we were told "sorry we had no bacon so you get ham. You'll like". Needless to say we didn't want ham but that wasn't even the worst part. The scrambled eggs were hard like rubber and the fried eggs I ordered had a strange gray coating on the bottom of them. This is the place to eat in Uvalde if you dislike seafood and wish to get a burger deep fried in the same oil as the shrimp. It dripped enough grease to lubricate a pickup truck. The entire staff could not convince me that it was beef, not squid or coelacanth. The french fries seemed to be lightly steamed (soggy) over sturgeon brine. While I have nothing against those who choose to consume denizen's of the deep, Spuds and Bovines need not taste like the fishmonger's dumpster. read more

Given my history with this place, I swore I'd never go back. But, I had relatives in town for a visit, and they insisted on going here. We arrived at 11:50 for lunch. The place was not crowded by any means. We placed our orders (super nachos, a salad, and a burger). 45 minutes later the food arrived at the table. The ground beef used on the nachos was apparently cooked a few days ahead of time. It was obvious that it had been sitting in the steamer tray for way too long. I think they added grease to moisten it up. The guacamole was also old. It was not anywhere close to being the bright green color that one would expect. Instead, it was more of a dull brown verging on black. The lettuce used on the salad was wilted. Also, it was ordered "without hard boiled eggs", but apparently, the cook decided that they should be included. I will say that the waiter was friendly and was trying his best. We left him a good tip, considering that the problems with the food were not his fault. The only good thing I can say about this place is that it never fails to disappoint. read more

Driving to Del Rio on a Friday afternoon and stopped here for a bite to eat with the family. The employees allowed me to take a menu from inside the restaurant to overlook it in our vehicle, due to our infant being fed. We (my gf and I) decided to order the Burrito San Diego and the Homestyle Burger with a Arnold Palmer drink. Our server was a woman by the name of Polly. Polly is very friendly and outstanding at making you feel welcomed and also takes it a step further by treating you like royalty. I told Polly I had to go back outside to check on my family and she asked me what vehicle I was driving. Polly actually took our order curbside and did so happily. Now that's service! This has got to be one of the most disgusting places I have ever had the displeasure of eating at. I was in Uvalde this past December with my husband visiting his family, and his dad decided to take us here one of the nights we were in town. They know I am a vegetarian, and I am sure they have been here before and know what kind of food that is served here. Lets just say, I ended the night in the bathroom... of the restaurant. Sexy, right? We get in and sit down, and the waitress brings us some water. I am looking over the menu thinking, "oh my god what am I going to possibly eat here?" No joke, there were NO vegetarian options. When the waitress came back my husbands dad recalled that there used to be a vegetarian wrap option and asked what happened to it. The waitress goes "Oh ya, we took that off awhile ago." Apparently nobody in this town eats vegetables that aren't drowning in cheese sauce or haven't been deep fried. So I do the only thing I can think of that would get some kind of vegetables in my system, I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, on white texas toast because that is all that they have (bleh) and added mushrooms and avocados. I made the mistake of ordering a side of fries that ended up tasting like old oil and fish. My sandwich was nothing to write home about. They probably put like three slices of american cheese on it. I only ate about half of it. The fries as I said were totally gross. I barely touched those as well. About ten minutes before we are about to leave my stomach starts acting up. I get up and go to the bathroom, and proceed to hang out in there... for 20 minutes. It was embarrassing coming out knowing my entire family of in-laws was waiting for me out in the car. This place needs to be closed down, but probably never will be because there is a multitude of Texans who apparently need their daily supply of deep fried meat. Ugh, just don't. I'm still not sure why this place still exists in Uvalde. All I can say is that they have coffee. It's not good but that's it. The service is terrible, the food is awful and even the beers aren't cold. Do yourself a favor and buy whatever it was that you wanted to eat together with a bundle of wood and go to the rest stop east of Sabinal and cook it there. No consistency wife got chicken fried steak that was half the size of the plate. The chicken fried steak I received was so small I swear it was from the child's menu. Even the waitress exclaimed RIGHT?? when I brought it up as she was putting it in front of me. OH, They charged me for it also as though I received a Proper chicken fried steak. Stayed in Uvalde to go to the Frio & made the horrible mistake of going here for dinner. First impression was rough. There was a roach on the ground by the door. I tried to reassure myself that it was just hot outside and it was common for roaches to try to get in. I walk through the door and become instantly overwhelmed by the smell of old trailer home carpet and urine as many other reviews have stated. The decor was something of entertainment. The pictures on one wall include, a collage of items on the menu, a Thomas Kinkade Winter Landscape painting, a stock photo of a random family kayaking, and a tasteful family portrait. The next wall was complete with giant mirrors that were previously connected to bedroom dressers and the worship music playing was a good choice but did not make up for the rest of the experience in the slightest. Onto the service. Our waiter wasn't terrible, but if we asked about our food he blamed everything on the kitchen. His remarks were nothing short of saying that they sucked at their jobs. Next the food. It took quite a while for our food to come out but when it did there was much to be desired. To preserve my health I refrained from ordering anything with meat, so I played it safe with a grilled cheese. My meal came and one of the fries had a green tip. I'm talking shrek green. I once again tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and tell myself it was probably cut ripe from a potato. The rest of my party's food was below average but not completely terrible. One of them ordered a baked potato which took so long that she ended up taking it off of the order. All around the food looked like most of it was precooked and then microwaved. Went here with my in-laws on Sunday just in time to catch breakfast. We ordered quite a hearty amount of food. An omelet, two Town House plates, one Texas plate, and a side of pancakes since we were curious about them bragging about them. You seat yourself in this establishment, which would be nice if the wait staff were a little more attentive. We probably waited about ten minutes before someone came by with some menus and to take our drink order and waited another ten or fifteen to order. Our waitress was very polite and very accommodating. I had asked if it's possible to switch out my eggs for hash browns. She had let me know it may not be possible but she'd ask and if it's not asked how I'd prefer my eggs. Then began the forty minute wait. During this time my father in law noticed his cup of water was dirty on the inside of the glass. He didn't say anything, but he didn't drink it either. We noticed they were in the middle of switching to lunch and a family who sat a table away from us, who sat down significantly later than when we did, got their lunch meal faster. When the waitress arrived to give us our plates they were wrong. My mother in law and my plates were to come with biscuits and gravy. Instead we received pancakes. We had brought this up to her and she had blamed herself, saying she must of put it in wrong and scurried off to get them for us. By the time we were nearly finished eating she returned, letting us know there were no more biscuits and gravy and that we could either pick around the buffet table or she'd give us a discount. Since the biscuits were the sole reason we ordered that plate we just opted for the discount. Though I was very pleased that I got to substitute my eggs for hash browns. And the food was tasty enough. From what my husband said the pancakes were pretty great! My father in law's omelette was sitting in a puddle of grease, which he first ho-hummed about but he ended up eating the whole thing regardless. I agree with previous reviewers, the food is your typical, ladened with grease and lard diner food, but what we had picked out was good. My in-laws went out to breakfast again today and let us know the service they experienced was still very slow and coffee refills were hard to come by, despite sitting at the counter this time. And my mother in law was pretty bummed that their idea of French toast is deep-fried bread. She said it was more of a donut then anything else. Also, I must agree with one of the previous reviewers. This place does have that unsettling "old folks home" smell. Trust me, that's not a natural thing to be smelling inside of a restaurant. Ok food, long wait time. Granted that my wife and I arrived at the restaurant after 8:00 pm, there were only two waitresses and it was only half full. The wait service was great however, the food took way too long to come out. I got the Chicken fried steak which they told me, "it's what we are known for". The waitress was very attentive, sorry I do not remember her name. My husband ate the chicken fried steak, it was probably the Best chicken fried steak we have ever had (yes, he shared 2 bites with me). I ate Mexican food, the carne guisada was excellent! Taco and enchilada were very yummy. The rice and beans were just ok, but I had enough food that I didn't need them anyway. The flour tortillas were perfect, a little thick and slightly crunch, exactly the way I like them. Overall, a very good doing experience. We ate at 2 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon. read more

I recently ate here this past week. I travel through uvalde often and never noticed this spot. This place really wasn't that bad. I will admit that there are too many fried options. I'm not a big fried foods person, but the fried fish was actually pretty good. There were shrimp cocktails, veggie chicken soup, fresh corn, and mixed veggies. Today I had the worst breakfast ever at the townhouse restaurant I've been to this restaurant every week for the last 2 months and they continue to get worse I was served two fried eggs one with pepper on it that looks like it was pre cooked and like it came off of someone else's plate and the other one fresh the waitress says... oh you don't want pepper on it. I said. excuse me this came off in somebody else's plate. Next to me another customer says he wanted a different Cup for his coffee the waitress says that's all we've got and walked off. The buffet was completely dry all the eggs and potatoes the pancakes and French toast the beans the tortillas I explained this to the waitress she says there is no kitchen manager and four managers on the floor no one had an idea what to do about it I was then given a a ticket for $15.50 they charge me for the two fried eggs and coffee and a buffet when I complained they gave me a $1.50 discount. I have always enjoyed eating at TownHouse. The Monday night chalupa special is always good. The onion rings are so crisp and tasty and are freshly battered onion rings, not frozen. I travel to Uvalde fairly frequently for my job. I made a huge mistake stopping here for lunch one day. The server (who was very nice and very friendly) suggested their lunch buffet. It was horrible. I'm in my mid 50's but this seems like a place geared toward very old people. I would usually love a desert, even at lunch but these looked like old fashioned cafeteria deserts. If your not a regular customer I can see how you might not have the best of reviews. I returned due to comfort level. I felt like I could just relax and hang out with friends. Their Mexican food platters like the Derby are good and plentiful. If your not a big eater you should order smaller. The review about being a vegetarian......all I can say is Uvalde doesn't have many vegetarians, but from my experience most restaurants are usually willing to accommodate, you just have to ask. Nacho pile up is one of my favorites and my family and friends love to share it as we just hang out. I also like to order the Juan's Spicy Burger and they let me put my signature on it by adding what I want and putting it on toast and you name it they take my request and make it happen. They do take a while, but you have to know when you have time for menu items or just grabbing the buffet. People are always in a hurry and Townhouse is a place to relax and unwind, it's not fast food. As I began to frequent the restaurant more I was able to establish relationships with some of the waitstaff and they are good people trying to make a living and we all have bad days.
