I came in Saturday night, having shown up to my hotel room only to find that I had left my dress at home.... I was about to miss the whole wedding (as a guest at the head table). WELL!! I walked into your shop in a panic, and I was immediately taken care of in such a calm, helpful, caring, speedy, professional way!! 10 out of five stars for my experience!! I'll never go back to this store again! I've purchased many gowns over the years and this place is the worst! Sales people ignored me when I was looking for a dress for my daughter's wedding last year. This year they were rude and acted as if I were a bother to them for my son's wedding. Second time I brought a dress at Town Shop worse job in alterations in both occasions.  First dress, uneven hem. Shorter in back,then front of dress. Second dress, the hem was a disaster. Lost the entire look of the dress after being taken in and hemmed. Lost all the beautiful detailed work in the dress flower applique pattern. They claimed it was a removable hem. That was not true nor the case. The entire dress was altered to a different look all together to make the sale of an expensive dress $$$$$ and not to mention  an additional $$$$ for hemming in alternations. The Town Shop is only looking for you to say, "YES TO THE DRESS". Not in the interest of customer needs as ALL Dresses are paid in full and NON-REFUNDABLE prior to the sale of dress. Such a racket when you pay up front and you get a lousy seamtress who doesnt know how to alter dresses. Same seamtress did both the dresses and ruined both gowns. That's a big investment on your special occasion only to be lost in alterations and still have to pay for their mistakes in alternations regardless of errors. Shop wisely and make sure you don't need a lot of alternations to the dress otherwise your stuck with the dress and all the mistakes made in the alternations with absolutely NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES.  Which are noted on the contract of their receipt. Which protects them from errors of any alterations that needs to made of any kind. Yes, I still wore both dresses as I had no other options and paid out big $$$$$ for the dresses as well as big $$$$ for all the alterations needed just to be hanging in a closet. It reflects on them when others sees their mistakes and will proudly say and tell others of their rightly mistakes owned by Town Shop. After all it's bought and paid for in FULL to show and tell everyone of their great honorable work of mistakes no matter how good or bad it looks even if it's not met to your expections. They called me Fat... swear on everything. Not only does this place look like it came out of the 70s the woman with blonde hair.. who was not my bridal attendant... told me I was too big for a dress. There was a beautiful dress in the front of the store that I asked 3 times to try on. After being ignored I asked again and that's when the woman with the blonde hair said "no, what's the point, your too big and it won't fit you" WTF ... who says that? Seriously? ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!! Do not go here unless you want to be insulted. They will never ever get my business. On top of it.. Gary the owner called me back and was speechless... seriously ? This was the only bridal salon that I went to and tried on about 5 dresses when I found the one I fell in love with and ended up buying. I worked with Gretchen and she was pleasant and helpful but I did get incredibly frustrated when trying to get an idea of when my dress would be in. I was told on multiple calls that it would be at the shop in two weeks, two weeks would go by and I would get the same answer. I was told that I didn't need to worry until I was less than 90 days away from my wedding date; which at the time of that conversation I was under 90 days. I had my alterations done there and the seamstress was the best part of the whole process, she was attentive and she did amazing work even though not much was needed. Overall, I would cautiously recommend them as long as you have plenty of time before your wedding date and are ok with one sided communication. read more

if I could give this 0 stars I would.... Brides & women looking for dresses beware. First I wanted to say I never write a bad business review, let alone a small business review. I alway try and support small businesses & know their worth to our communities, but this experience was just to horrific to not share, and hopefully save other women from the same stress and being upset as we experienced.This is pretty lengthy, but I wanted to be sure to not omit anything.My daughter and I went to the Town Shop on 5/7/21 to purchase a dress for her upcoming event, to be picked up on 6/5/21. The dress was purchased on 5/7/21 and also to be altered. There was to be beading fixed as there was a whole line of beads that fell out, the straps were to be altered to bring the neck line up higher, a mask was to be made to match her dress, a bustle sewed in.My daughter and my husband went on 6/5/21 to pick up the dress, there was no mask made as they said there wasn't enough fabric, yet they handed her a bag of fabric including beads. The beading was not fixed, and they said they didn't have beads to match it. Upon getting home, she mentioned the neck line looked to be a lot lower then she initially wanted, but when she picked it up and tried it on they said it looked fine. She tried the dress on at our house on Sunday 6/6/21, the shop was closed, upon looking at it there were rows of sequins and beads missing, sequins and beads were just falling from her dress. I understand a few here and there, but you could clearly see the threads that had pulls in them & rows of beading coming off and falling to the floor. My daughter Facebook messaged them that evening, and the shop was closed until Tuesday 6/8/21.On 6/8/21 I contacted them upon the shop opening, I spoke to Kathy, which I later found out she is the owner, I explained the situation at hand between the straps and neck line not being to the height she felt comfortable with, the mask not being made, and the issues with the beading. She asked us to come in, to which we agreed. She called me back and asked what time we would be there, and if I had looked at the style of dress on their site. I explained I was there the day she purchased it & was there when she was explaining to the seamstress the concerns with the neckline and was told it would be no issue.We arrive at the town shop around 2:00 pm, the nice young lady that sold her the dress showed her to the fitting room and told us Kathy would be with us shortly. She got changed and came out to the pedestal as sequins and beads were falling to the floor. A woman came over, I do not know her name as she did not introduce herself, to which we later figured out was the seamstress. She informed us she did the work on the dress herself and asked what the issue was. I was explaining the beading issue which was on the back side of the dress to the floor, along with some of the areas throughout the dress. She started interrupting and yelling claiming theres nothing that can be done & she would not rebead the dress by hand. I was attempting to explain that this was not there on the day we purchased it on 5/7 or we would have brought it to the attention of the woman marking the alterations.She was very argumentative, at some point Kathy the owner came over, as I was trying to explain my issues with the beading that was falling out all over, explaining the straps the seamstress went to my daughters left side as my daughter was showing her how it was supposed to be, I even showed them the photo we took the day of after the alterations were marked and showed the neckline higher. She then in a mocking tone said do you want it to your neck then? So now have they not only not done the proper neckline alterations, accusing her of lying, now mocking her for not wanting her breasts to be exposed and the plunge line to not be so deep.While I was standing to the right side of my daughter and the seamstress was on the left, as she was mocking her about the plunge line, she started poking my shoulder telling me I am rude. I told her to keep her hands off me, whereas Kathy just continued to say they spent enough time on this dress and it was not going to cost them more money to do the work, that she would be losing money.I told her that her attitude and way she was handling this was very improper especially for a small business owner, to which she said she didn't care. She wanted me to give them the dress and them to issue a refund, they refused to do the work, and said she wouldn't deal with it and continued to call me rude. My daughter was in tears during a time where she should be excited and enjoy her experience getting ready for her first prom. I told Kathy her event was in 2 days and I simply wanted the dress fixed as I had paid for. She unclipped all of the pins the seamstress placed to fix it &refused to fix the dress.I told her I would be writing a review and filing a complaint, she then said its people like you who are internet trolls. read more

First appointment was amazing. Once I purchased the dress they could give two shits about me or my feelings. I had second thoughts on the dress and the seamstress literally walked out and went home- not even kidding it was mid tailoring. I expressed I felt that the straps would break and they said they would never. Fast forward to my wedding- it ripped. I can't even tell you how many times I cried in that store and people did not care one bit...It was the worst experience and Honestly I wish I just went somewhere else. ** DO NOT GO HERE ** If I could give this place less than a star I would. It deserves nothing. They treated myself and my mother like second class citizens when shopping for a veil. When I went in for my veil appointment (which they told us to schedule) they acted like we were an inconvenience to them and had no idea we had an appointment. A sales a associate named Gretchen (and we will dive deeper into her classlessness) pulled 5 cathedral length veils in their plastic wrap- laid them hap hazzardly on the counter and walked away. Thinking she was getting us a fitting room we waited 10+ min only to realize she had moved on to a wedding dress sale/ appt (you know where the bigger money was) she never came back. No one helped except a seamstress who did her best to speak to us which we appreciated given her first Language is Spanish (this is not a dig, we genuinely appreciated her) It was only because we asked her to help us that she stepped in. This place is a joke. It is run down. They take advantage of the fact that they are one of few dress shops in the area. Back to Gretchen- I have worked in retail for many years for high end fashion designers. You treat every customer with respect. I have never in my life been treated as rudely. She needs to find a new profession that doesn't work with the general public. She has a major attitude problem. She is nasty and speaks to you like you're wasting her time. If I could give no stars I would. What an Absolute disgrace of an experience. The staff was rude, inconsiderate and snapped at you every chance they got. I feel horrible for my friend for such a shitty experience of picking out her wedding dress from the day we tried on to the day we picked it up. My favorite was the day we tried on the dress we were told the bride was trying on TOO MANY dresses and that most rides only tied about 4-5 even though she only had tried on 8! We ordered it a year in advance and was told it would be ready for fittings five months prior to the wedding. Called every week to check being that the bride did not live close. The dress did not arrive until a month and a half before the wedding and had to cram all the fittings in so quickly. As bridesmaids when asking questions about the dress the staff whether it was the one doing the alterations the front desk person the floor girl, every single one of them would give you an attitude and snap. I will never step foot back in Town Shop in Poughkeepsie again. I took Carmen to look for her dress for Brian and Amy's wedding and the first thing we saw was no strollers allowed which was hard because we brought Ava. We put the stroller away respecting the sign and went back in. This store was one of the only stores in the area that held the designer I wanted for my wedding dress. Immediately Carmen found the dresses I wanted and was pulling them out so I could see them while I held Ava. One of the saleswomen came up to her and asked her if she was getting married. When Carmen stated "No I am already married" the lady started to sternly talk to her that she shouldnt be looking at the wedding dresses and that she should look at the back of the store. I was speechless. Carmen then nicely said she was looking for her daughter in law. The lady again nastly told us that she should bring her in and make an appointment. Just floored. PSA: To any bride to be or future brides, do not shop at Town Shop in Poughkeepsie. I had heard before purchasing my gown not to shop there, but I had an appointment already scheduled coming up and figured I wouldn't find anything, but I did. Here's my bad experience: After I purchased my dress, I had my cousin visiting from Switzerland and knew she wasn't going to be attending my wedding. So, I brought her there so I could try the dress on and show her. We were greeted by an older, short haired woman who then went to get the dress. She comes back and throws it on the pole and with the most annoyed voice says, "Here it is. Oh, you want to try it on??" I said yes. She is then complaining to me how I shouldn't be showing people my wedding dress and that only my mother and maid of honor should be seeing it, no one else. (It's not her business who I wish to show MY dress to). I lost a lot of weight leading up to the wedding and knew I lost weight since purchasing the dress. While putting on the dress, I asked if I should take off my bra since I didn't have it on last time. She huffs and goes, "That won't help." There was about 2 inches left and she refused to zip it up saying that the girl last time, "probably forced it, and I'm not going to force it." First of all, that's the easiest part to zip, the end. And second of all, that could have broken someone who wasn't confident and very insecure in themselves. I was livid. I left and called back a week later to complain to a manager. The girl who helped me find my dress was wonderful (I believe she has since quit) and helped calm me down on the phone and saying I wouldn't have to deal with that awful woman again and to just make sure that I dealt with her every time in the future. Fast forward after the wedding. The Town Shop had given me a coupon to preserve my gown. So I figured why not. I brought it in they said they couldn't do it right away since they were busy. No big deal. So I get a call right before my friend's wedding (beginning of October) that my dress was in and ready for pick up. My first question on that phone call was "do I have to pick it up right away?" They stated no I did not. So I knew the dress was there. It's not near any of my errands during the week/weekends but I was intending to pick it up when I got the next chance. I get a call this Tuesday (about 2 weeks after they originally called me). They are saying my dress is in. And I go "oh yes I got a call a couple weeks ago, I just haven't been able to stop in just yet" and the girl on the phone says "Oh well if you don't come pick it up, we're going to dispose of it." Yes. She said DISPOSE of my wedding gown (that I fully paid for-preservation and all). Excuse me? She then goes on, "Well we have 5 here and ones been here for a year so we're calling each of you to come and get them or we're disposing them." I can't believe this is how they run a business. Using the word DISPOSE after my dress had only been there for a couple of weeks, but the bride that had hers there for a year was in the clear? I get that you need people to pick up their things, but the vocabulary that you chose to use really set me over the edge into writing this review. And to make sure not to recommend you to anyone. Save yourselves the stress and do not come here. I'm done with this shop. Don't even get your mother of the bride or groom dresses here. They're older than dirt, all stretched out. My mother was so appalled at the selection they had. Mothers of the brides (and grooms) don't need to look like their the grandmothers of the bride/groom on the wedding day. Worst customer service. Do not shop at this store. Went there today to pick up my daughters altered prom dress. Was told to pick up between 12 and 6. Got there at 330. Dress wasn't ready. Dress wasn't even started on. Very unprofessional to not have dress ready when promised. Owner is full of excuses as to why not ready. I leave because they tell me dress will be ready at 5. I went to Town Shop for my first wedding gown outing. Debbie helped us through our appointment and she was wonderful!! A few things that I did not like about the shop: 1. We were rushed. The owner of the bridal shop made her stop working with us to help the next guest. She asked him if she could have one more minute with us to finalize everything and he said "No." right in front of us. Not a very good way to sell a dress. He made us feel like we weren't worthy of their time and it was embarrassing. 2. No pictures allowed. I understand this is a sales tactic but who can remember what each dress looks like on them? It would have been nice to take some pictures and be able to reflect during decision making, and to also capture some of the experience. 3. I wasn't told any of the prices or the brands of the dresses. I have no idea if they are in my price range or what the designers are. This was probably because we were being rushed and couldn't have a discussion afterwards. Debbie, the woman who helped me try on my dresses was fantastic. I have to simply echo everyone else's sentiments about the Town Shop: unprofessional, rude, inconsistently priced, and just not worthwhile. I was born and raised in the area (but now no longer living in the area), so my first thought when I got engaged recently was to swing by to simply browse during a very quick holiday weekend trip home. Keep in mind, I had no set date for a wedding, no expectations, and just simply wanted to get a feel for what was available. My family and I were greeted by two employees who didn't seem to know right from left. They had no idea what was going on or whether or not it'd be possible to simply look at dresses. Then a manager (or owner, I'm not sure), gave us the most condescending speech about how we should've had an appointment - you can't even look at a dress without an appointment - and there's nothing they can do for me. I would've much rather been given an explanation of how the bridal world works (in terms of appointments, vocabulary etc), because as far as I'm concerned I haven't been married before nor do I plan to go through this again. How else was I supposed to know these things? A quick tutorial would've accomplished the same goal and made me feel more comfortable with potentially taking my business here. Originally, she wasn't even going to let us look at pictures of dresses in a binder without an appointment. She eventually caved and gave me a binder to look at in a corner of the store. She made me feel like this was my fault. Overall, I felt very unwelcomed, unwanted, and out of place. They also seemed to only have dresses at a much higher starting price point than other stores in the area. All-in-all, nothing about the experience made me want to give them any part of my business. This store is lacking in their customer services skills and are down right RUDE. The OWNER was so rude when I picked up my sister-in-laws dress. He was so annoyed we were there to pick up the dress and seemed to be inconveniencing him. When he brought the dress out, it had threads all across the hem that were not trimmed and the dress was wrinkled! He took it back to have the threads trimmed and when I asked to look at the dress outside of the bag, he totally flipped out on me and my aunt... literally scolded us for wanted to look at the dress and not trusting them to be professional. He was a total ASSHOLE! Also when we came in for the final fitting there was a stain on the dress that had not been their before (trust me, I know) and they blamed us, saying we had to have done it. The staff is beyond rude. My dress came In too small. Before checking the measurements they accused me of gaining weight (worst thing you can say to a woman, no less a bride). When they figured out the wrong size was sent they said the designer was overnighting a new dress (when mine took over 6 months to arrive). They lied and actually gave me the used dress they had in the store but given it was a month away from my wedding I had no choice but to take the dress. RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL, INSULTING- borderline ABUSIVE. And the "shop" is dumpy and outdated. I'm from the area, but was living in NYC at the time. I was engaged and in the process of dress shopping. My sister who was my MOH and I made a reservation to try on dresses. I made a special trip up from NYC just and only for this reason. We stopped at the restaurant next door beforehand to get some dinner, and the owner walked in. The bartender (we were eating at the bar) told him we were coming over afterwards to try on dresses. The owner grabbed onto my shoulder so hard- and said, very passively aggressively- "great!"- it left a mark! Who does that?! I decided to ignore his action and go over anyway. I walk in, we were the only 2 people there, it was a work night. Remember- we had called days in advance to look at dresses and had a reservation which we were on time for. We started looking around, and were completely ignored. We eventually sat on the couch waiting for someone to come over because they seemed to be ignoring us. We waited at least 10-15 minutes, finally we get up, walked over to the counter and told her we had an appointment. There was 2 women and the owner behind the counter. They were being very dismissive towards me and immediately start blowing me off.. They start asking me a million questions- implying and flat out saying that I wasn't "seriously dress shopping", and they start grilling me, asking me if I'm truly dress shopping or just "messing around"?! They started yelling at me- what shops have I shopped at?? Where have I tried dresses on in NYC?? And I answered them where I had shopped, completely shocked and appalled! They just continued to yell at us that they weren't going to let me try on dresses because they thought I was lying! So, what?? I wasn't really dress shopping?? That the ring on my finger- was a fake?? And then, it was on. We gave them a piece of our mind and walked out. They lost a potential $2,000 sale because of their completely psychotic, unwarranted behavior. It was so bizarre. I honestly think the owner has serious anger issues, and the staff is just so afraid of him, that they just do and say whatever, to not make him angry towards them. read more

Never have I ever walked into a small local boutique with such unwelcome unprofessional treatment!! My sister is getting married early next year, and on a whim decided to inquire a local dress shop as we were passing by to simply view their selection. Understood without an appointment to seek a bridal gown we figured it would not hurt to see how much they had to offer as we were unfamiliar. Not only were we greeted with a frown, in addition the short brown haired saleswomen was rude and acted in pure disgust we had not booked prior as they were busy. Regardless did not offer a smile nor business card to further gain business. In the Fashion industry myself for the past 6yrs, I have never been treated with such poor customer service. I would give no stars if that were an option! If you expect to get your dress within a reasonable time or at least within the time frame you're told when you order it I highly suggest going elsewhere! Not only did they not have the dress when I arrived to try it on, but they have no problem lying to your face or hanging up on you if you call. I am in a group of four bridesmaids that ordered their dresses at the same time. We each called or went in separately within the last 2 weeks to see about checking the fitting for our dresses that were supposed to be in last month. We were each told the same thing: "Well they're not in yet, but they should be in by next week at the latest." I travel a lot for work, so when ordering the dress I made sure to mention that I needed it ready by no later than last week, which I was assured it would be since I ordered it 3 months ago! However, when I arrive they tell me the same bullshit they told everyone else and went as far as to lie to my face saying that no one had mentioned anything about my time constraint. They also said that no one in the party had come in or called. These people are the most unprofessional, rude, and intolerable people I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. This place should not be in business at all!! If I had known the uselessness of this place before stepping foot into it I never would have wasted my time. In addition they don't measure you properly. They purposefully write down a much larger size in order to force you to pay even more to get the dress taken in! So please please please for your own sanity go anywhere else!! read more

One of my bridesmaids, a size 6 was ordered and size 16 (when she asked for a 10) but they said it wasn't their problem! Told us that we are the ones who ordered it incorrectly, and then hung up on us! I just picked up my dress the other day and took it to someone else. Its really unfortunate that I bought a dress from them. I don't know how a dress shop could be run like that and still be in business. All the other vendors that I'm using for my wedding have all heard similar stories about this shop! I wish I had asked around before going there! Do yourself a favor... I have to start by saying I have been getting my dresses here since high school -- the selection is amazing and you always walk out knowing you are in something you LOVE and look amazing in! So this was without a doubt where I was getting my WEDDING DRESS!! ( I live in California, so just know, I beyond trust, respect and love this place ) I went in knowing a style I may like and an open mind. I fell in love with the perfect dress and I 'm honestly counting down the days to my wedding. The staff and Kathy ( who is the owner) were amazing! and made the whole experience Something you have to keep in mind is that your wedding dress comes with alterations ( which are perfect -- there is no one in NY who can do the work those women do) you can't say that about anywhere nor should you trust anyone else! I got my bridal gown, bridesmaids and mother of the bride dresses there. My overall experience was very good. My consultant was very nice and knowledgeable and patient. They altered my dress exquisitely and it looked gorgeous on the day of my wedding. Not to mention my bridesmaids dresses looked absolutely outstanding as well as my mothers dress. read more

Horrible experience. The owners were very rude. I ordered a gown, it took six months to get it. When it came in they had ordered the wrong size, they said they would put a rush on it to get the correct size, they didn't. A month and a half later they still don't have the gown. I requested my $100.00 deposit {which is almost half the price of the dress} back because they failed to provide my dress and they refused. They were very rude and unprofessional. I live on a fixed income and now I'm out $100.00. These people should be ashamed of themselves for their deceptive business practices. Stay away from this place. read more

It's been years since I went there last, and I'm shocked they're still in business. My mother went there for a mother of the bride dress and earrings, and I wound up buying my veil there. They screwed up her order twice, and they were beyond rude about it. So rude that my fiancé got on the phone and spoke to the owner, who was so awful until my husband explained that he's in the wedding industry. Then all of a sudden he changed his nasty attitude. My bridesmaid also brought her dress there for alterations, and they put it off until THE DAY OF MY WEDDING. I know many more horror stories, but they're just all around awful. We opened the double doors and were pleasantly surprised at the amount of inventory that was on display. It was truly an ah ha moment. But our excitement was very quickly extinguished. Our bride is plus sized and was very apprehensive about even going there. Exactly what she was afraid was going to happen was unfolding before our eyes. We walked past the counter on the left side of the store with several people behind the counter. None of them made us feel welcome, said hi or even can I help you. There were 3 of us, the bride, mother of the bride and mother of the groom. We proceeded to walk deeper into the store and finally a woman walked up to us with a frightened look on her face. Like they had pulled straws and she got the short one and lost and had to come wait on us. The bride had no intentions of trying on dresses, she just wanted to see a few styles and fabrics that were available. When the employee (who was the size of a twig) found out that the wedding is in October she immediately told us to go to David's bridal. That their gowns needed 6-8 months to order which I believe. She continued to rave about David's bridal that they would have ALL sizes but they run small. She said, "I'm a size 2 but I take a size 8 there". I mean, come on, how insensitive can you be? She never even tried to ask the two mothers who were also in the market for dresses a second thought. So she lost 3 sales that day and won the store ANOTHER negative review. As we were walking out she followed us muttering that she was going to do as little as possible today because she felt dizzy. This place needs to get their nose out of the air and show some compassion. Not all bride are a size 2 and ALL brides need to feel special and like a shining star that they truly are. I cannot give any stars to this horrible shop. Bought dress for sons wedding in June for event in fall. Couldn't go earlier due to covid ! Now in August wedding is cancelled due to covid . Called to get refund or credit since I had paid in full and haven't even received dress. They said no to both. I explained that wedding will be rescheduled at some point but will likely be in summer so dress is too dark and heavy. Associate was insensitive and remarked that you can still wear it ! That is horrible customer service during a worldwide pandemic! How dare this place treat me with such disrespect! My DIL to be and my niece have both recently bought their bridal gowns there. They are now upset and angry that you dismissed me! I intend to let everyone know about this horrible shop so that NOONE goes there to buy again. I am so angry!!!!!!! read more
