So I love shrimp and grits. Town Tavern offers shrimp and grits in a butter bacon sauce. Bacon. Enough said. Okay, maybe not enough. Came on a Wednesday night with a friend. He ordered the Charity Mule (donates a parting on to charity) and I chanced the Banana Hammock (basically rum and banana). Both drinks were delicious and instagram worthy. We then ordered the steak and frites as well as the shrimp and grits. We were warned that the steak and frites would take about 15 minutes to come out. The shrimp and grits came out pretty quickly. The shrimp was flavorful and fresh. You know how you take a bite of shrimp and can just tell how fresh it is? These 5 shrimp lay on top of a bed of buttery grits with bacon pieces. The steak and frites came out next. There were 5 slices of steak covered in a green chimichurri sauce. The steak was excellent even though there weren't that many slices. The downside of this dish was the bed of fries underneath. The fries were cold and not very memorable. Had they been hot and crispy fries, I probably would've bumped them to 4.5 stars. A great place to catch up with others. The place was full when we left around 7:30 pm. The restroom was very clean and had a nice full length mirror. I really like the vibe they created -- very modern tavern. Great place to hang out and grab a drink on a weekend night. Food was pretty solid as well as their drinks -- definitely strong drinks here (keep in mind). My stars are because I felt a bit dismissed by the staff. It wasn't particularly busy this Friday night (early need a vax days), but it would take quite a long time for our waiter to stop by our table when we were ready to leave and when we were ready to order. I've been here since they've opened pretty much. At first I thought it was just another bar, but I was hyped. But the drinks were nice and so was the food. I gave it a chance and kept coming back for the drinks. Their tots are awesome and I've had their sliders, but their loaded tots are my favorite thing on the item, even though I kept ordering the Ahi Tuna salad. Which then spiraled into chaos because they had Disney+ and I found myself sitting there for 4 hours watching Marvel movies eating 2 plates of food, maybe a cookie and several cocktails. Until the pandemic hit. One thing I do like is the Toki Highballs, which is from a machine. It's pretty amusing and it makes the perfect highball each time. During the pandemic, I would order 6 packs. I'm sure I still have the Town Tavern bottles. Sometimes guest bartenders, special menus and industry events happen. That's the cool thing about this place, especially with Cinco De Mayo, Halloween and Christmas. After leaving Alameda to Walnut Creek, I still can't find a bar like this one. I miss it. Wow! If I didn't know better, I'd think that I was sitting downtown in one of the Bay Area's best hang outs!! Ripped completely out of place (in my humble opinion) this ALAMEDA bar is straight out of some playbook of SF! It's brand new and looks fantastic. When I saw it open at 1st I thought this place will come and go within a year or so. But after trying it...whoa. The drinks are stiff, tasty, AND unique. The staff are not bartenders...they are mixologists fo' sho.... not to mention they are super polite, knowledgeable, and friendly! This place is so cool...they BUY their drink ice!!! Not just freezer made ice. NO! Clear ICE!! The kind that has NO imperfections whatsoever! AND they stamp each ice cube with their bar stamp!!! It's the epitome of cool...literally cool because the ice doesn't melt and water down your drinks!!! As for the food...well, I wanted to order everything after tasting the bacon fries!! Crispy with a hint of bacon. So it's not overt and overly indulgent/oily. Then we had the chicken. Yowzas! Juicy and succulent. They use real chicken that (i think) has been brine'd before frying. Next time the wagyu burger (though i'm always hesitant bc i never feel wagyu should be ground up into a burger). So I'm impressed that such an establishment exists in Alameda. Great little place in Alameda's downtown area for a cocktail and a quick bite. You can make a meal out of it if you want but it's more of a bar than a restaurant. I think their cocktails are pretty good - and we're picky. Service is attentive and professional. Outdoor seating is on the sidewalk as they don't have a patio, and there's a lot of foot traffic right there. They do have space heaters though. Their french fries are the bomb, seriously. Town Tavern is an upscale neighborhood bar that sits on the Park Street retail district in Alameda. This place opened in late 2018 and somehow survived the pandemic. Its become an Alameda favorite for craft cocktails. There signature drink is the Town Tavern Old Fashioned. Its made with demarara, legent bourbon, some orange, and a touch of angostura bitters. Quite delicious. They have an impressive mezcal menu. And lots of local beers on tap, such as Drakes, Faction Brewing, and Ghost Town. The wine list has about 15 options. Bottles range in price from $48-$80. They also serve wine by the glass. Glasses range from $10-$15. If you're looking for a snack, try the Impossible Meatballs. But a couple weeks ago I went back on a Friday. Firstly, they have fun happy hour cocktails M-F until 5:30PM. And that's fun, especially as the cocktails are interesting and have the cool custom ice cubes. But not just for happy hour - the Old Fashioned was lovely. By all means go! Well we went back again on Friday. And what a nice time. Again, great happy hour cocktails and I love those Wagyu sliders. Very tasty and delicious. My boyfriend arrived at 5, no wait time on a Friday and he told them he was waiting for me. They sat him without me present which was nice considering most places now require all parties present. They do ask for proof of covid vaccination just FYI. We ordered drinks, fried brussel sprouts, ahi sliders, and pork chicharrones. Brussel sprouts were delish. They fried them and the sauce they had was delicious and tangy. Good touch. Ahi sliders came with shoestring fries. Town Tavern has quickly earned a spot in my top places to go for happy hour in Alameda. I was the fun facilitator for my team for about 6 months (before we all had to say goodbye! long story.) We picked Town Tavern for many reasons. 1) We have always had excellent service here 2) the Happy Hour menu options and prices are good and 3) the food is just so darn good. While I have not tried many of the signature cocktails that they have, I have had most of the food items on both sides of their menu. My favorite snacks are the Chicharrones (they come out hot and still crackling), the brussel sprouts, and the bacon flavored french fries (you read that right). On my most recent visit, I had the fried shrimp sliders. They were excellent! They are small, but to me they were filling and paired perfectly with a light salad. As I mentioned previously, the service has always been excellent. The food comes out fast and each server I've had has been friendly. Town Tavern can be hopping during happy hour, but our servers have always been attentive and spot on. read more

BEST BURGER EVER! I was in search of a great burger in Alameda and I found it. Juicy high quality ground beef on a crispily grilled bun. The fixings were awesome--cheddar, grilled onions and a stack of tomato and crunchy lettuce. The fries were good--not super hot or special but good. But I would for sure return for that burger. We came here after a dinner at American Oak in the the spring. Even though it was a bit crowded, we lucked into a spot outside. I was a little worried that we wouldn't get served quickly but our server was on it and we were able to put our order in right away. I had always passed this place and for whatever reason, never went in. I think the crowds were a bit off-putting. If you're looking at a night out in the town, Town Tavern is a place that you must stop by. Probably good to come here early versus end the night at since it's pretty quiet here and there's usually no music. This is for the folks who want to feel a little bit fancy. Banana Hammock was one of the drinks I tried and I absolutely loved it. It was a little sweet, but 2 of these definitely will get your buzz going. Hats off to this place for their super creative cocktails and the names are just excellent! Probably see myself coming here over and over again if I'm in Alameda. Accidentally came across this charming cocktail bar while looking for a bar with food - this is definitely much more than just a "bar with food." First visit I tried the seasonal mule (passion fruit purée), banana hammock, and beef sliders. The mule was good, but after trying the other unique cocktails, I regret ordering something so basic. The banana hammock was a bartender recommendation, and oh boy was it good. It has rum and banana liquor (both of which I would never ever order), but it was insanely good - even convinced the customers sitting next to me to order 2! Oh yeah, and the beef sliders were amazing too. Like steak between buns. Came back the very next day around noon. This time I had an off-menu cucumber gin drink and the mac n cheese. Again, perfect. All in all, this place is deadly in terms of getting hammered because the cocktails make you forget there's alcohol in there. All the employees are extremely friendly, and the service is very attentive. I will definitely make my way here next time I'm in the Bay Area - heck it even makes me want to move here. I'm not sure how I heard about Town Tavern, but I've been wanting to try it for a while. It's not super big. And when I first walked in, I wasn't sure there were any high tables left. I lucked out and grabbed a small high table towards the back. Here's what I liked about this place: - The ladies room was very clean and fresh smelling. It has a full length mirror, which I like. - The service. I didn't catch our server's name, but she was helpful, polite, and attentive. She checked on us often. - The vibe. I liked the high tables, the large TVs above the bar, and the overall atmosphere. It had a nice, cozy feel without feeling too cramped. I liked that's it's kinda classy as opposed to divey. - The decent, small bites food menu. What I mean is...the menu wasn't extensive, but they had enough of a food selection that we were able to try a few things. Here's what I wasn't too impressed with: - The quality of the food. It was just OK. It wasn't anything that I would tell people to go seek out. The food tasted fine. We had the guacamole and chips, fries, fried Brussels sprouts, chicharrones, chili wontons, pesto shrimp pasta, and cookies with ice cream for dessert.
