She told me that if we came to the dealership, they would bring the minivan from a "sister location" for us to see. I asked her, "But it's about an hour away--are you sure you can get it here that quickly?" She reassured me, saying, "Just come, and we'll get the van here." So we came drizzling, even bringing our babies, only to be told there was no such vehicle available without a down payment. They explained it was a "miscommunication," but I'm certain it wasn't, as I asked about it multiple times. read more

Had a morning appointment here for a recall on leaf springs (one of my leaf was snapped) which they knew. Show up Monday morning for the appointment and sit around for 6 hours and i finally asked what the deal is only for them to finally tell me they don't have the spring and will have to order them. Then when I tried to explain to the guy what was wrong he proceeded to act like I didn't know what I was talking about. Worked with me to get the right numbers for the trade and the Tacoma. All in all it took less than 15 minutes to finalize what we wanted. I bought my Kia from here back in 2020. The buying experience was great but the aftermath has been awful. I refinanced my car in 2022 and paid it off with Toyota in full early. I was meant to receive payment for GAP insurance and they mailed it to a different person with the same name. I have been fighting with them for over a year now to get my money back but they constantly tell me there is nothing they can do. When I call they confirm there are two different people and my information never matched this other person. I would not recommend financing at Toyota at all. read more

I had been looking for a certain used vehicle and it was right under my nose over at Toyota South in Richmond. I made an appointment to see it the next day and test drive it. It was what I wanted and my salesman Leo A. helped me right through the process. Salesmen/saleswomen from other dealerships will have you fill out the paperwork and leave you and go stay in the finance office until they hear something. The finance office here was very courteous, friendly, and helped me through the process and didn't pressure me to buy add on services I wouldn't be able to afford down the road. I called for an appointment and took it in early. I think it took longer because I didn't wait for it, but it took like 6 to 7 hours for a oil change, rotation, alignment and the multipoint check. The one thing I can say is that they are super professional and the price is way more than reasonable. I was shocked at how little I paid for such good services This location also does some auto restoration sales. They have some cherry vintage Toyota's for sale on the lot, like an original Land Cruiser! The owner likes to do this at his location, which it a vintage sales location for Toyota. Furious I wasted 4 hours of my day. Drove 50 miles away to get my toyota serviced. Made appointment, was assured they could do the service I requested. Got quote on price. Then drove there, stood there q0 minutes in front of the service desk. At least 5 people on computers and 1 on the phone and one standing there eating a doughnut. When finally acknowledged, I informed the guy what he was there for. He told me that they don't do the service I requested because the transmission is a sealed unit. Not true. It can and should be served at certain intervals. He then said I could speak to the service manager. Once this guy came, he said the service I wanted was 20 hrs and meant a basic rebuild of the transmission. I laughed at him. I told him I could show him a video on YouTube that takes an hour. I wanted the transmission fluid and filter changed/ flushed on an FJ Cruiser. Would have done it myself but my backs acting up. All you do is drop the pan, change filter, ther put the pan back on and flush the fluid. The service manager was ridiculous. Don't bother going here for service. You'd be better off at a quick change place. Bafoons, all of them. I called and left a message for the general manager, he's been too big of a coward to call back. Not surprising. read more

Went in to test drive a new 2014 Tundra, left buying a 2010 because they offered such an amazing deal. I work in the automotive industry and I have access to various resources most people do not. I know what a car will sell for at dealer auctions, what they paid for the unit at the auction and I know what my trade is worth down to the penny. The 2010 was a local trade in and looks, drives like it's brand new. The prior owner babied it. The price they came back for my trade was right on the money. They didn't try and low ball me. The price to buy the unit was actually lower than the average pricing at auctions. Their pricing on the extended warranties (which again I have access to at cost pricing due to my work) was not inflated, as well as the gap insurance. They do charge docs fees, but everywhere does and they're on par with national average. If you're looking for a vehicle, I recommend visiting this place. It took approx. 2 hours and we were done. Life was good and I could go on with our Saturday. The only reason I did not give them 4 or 5 stars is, we bought an add-on back up camera and we still do not have an install date and I have had to contact our salesman multiple times. We finally asked for the number to the installer so we could schedule the install ourselves. They did offer a loaner car to us, but one would not be available until the middle of July and frankly, that did not work for us. The deal for the unit hinged on the back up camera since I've had multiple spine surgeries. Waiting a week, possibly two I understand. More than that is unacceptable. read more

I was interested in buying a small pickup truck back when I lived in Richmond 3 years ago, so I visited Toyota South to see what they had on the lot. I hadn't been looking for 5 minutes when this older guy comes out, and we wound up test driving an older model Tacoma. He asked what it would take to get me in a car that day. That immediately put me off, but I told him we'd talk if we could agree on a good price. He wouldn't even talk price until I filled out a credit app (just to see what rate I'd qualify at.. what can I say, I was younger and dumber back then). He comes back with a ridiculous price, and I told him forget it. They tried everything to get me to stay, including the old "someone else is looking at it right now.. don't let them buy it!". After hearing enough of their lies, I picked up my keys, grabbed my license off his desk, and walked out. The salesman runs after me, telling me I'm not much of a man for not keeping my word, and he thought we had a deal (which we never did). I told him I don't do business with liars, and stormed out. The calls started coming over the next week, ranging from "You signed the credit app, you better come pick that Tacoma up" to "I think I have an offer you'll like'. I told them each time I wasn't interested, and not to contact me any further. The salesman even went as far to call my personal references on my credit application in an attempt to get ahold of me (how is that even legal??). Only after I called the GM of the dealership, Bud Gates, and spoke with his secretary did the calls cease. I really wanted to like this place, and give them a fair shake. Several of my friends and family had gone there and gotten a decent deal on a car. It could have been a rogue salesman, but who's to say? They lost my business that day, and it'll be a cold day in hell when I consider buying a car from them. read more

They took my car in and fixed it in a timely manner and even let me come right back when it appeared one of the repairs hadn't worked. All of my work was done within a couple of hours over a few separate days. And each time they had their driver, Amber come pick me up at home and drop me off. I have purchased two vehicles from them, and both times have been great. Our salesperson Zach Dunn was honest and helpful with no pressure. He showed us all the paperwork with every number represented instead of the old fashioned fast talking style used by some places. Although some Toyota dealers can be a little aloof (their brand holds resale so good that they often don't really need to negotiate as much as other places), Toyota South is not like that at all. I have never been treated this terribly by an auto dealership. First, the accessories that I negotiated to be on the truck weren't included in the actual price of the truck. Toyota South, somehow, expected me to purchase the accessories (tonneau cover, TRD exhaust, etc...) outside of the purchase price of the vehicle. So, when I take delivery of the vehicle; none of the things that I was expecting on the truck were included. I negotiated a $500 discount on the block lift for my truck. They gave it to me, but took off $500 dollars from the value of my trade-in. So, essentially, they took off nothing. I requested no more than an $800 payment. When I got to the finance office, it was $865. After I was forced to agree to purchase the accessories outside the purchase price, they didn't order them. I drove 35 miles so they could not install the accessories I requested. I tried to give them the spare keys and paperwork to my trade in. They forgot them in the truck and I had to spend $15 to mail the things to them. Finally, I'm an ASE certified mechanic. I was an Army mechanic for nine years. I was a mobile electronic installer for four years. I know how to run a battery test and how batteries should act. I told the battery on my truck was bad. It wasn't recharging like it should. If the battery isn't charged after 45 minutes of drive time, something isn't working correctly. I told them the battery was bad. I ran a load test on it. It came back as a "red light." They told me my battery was good. They charged it up and sent me home. The very next day, my battery died again. Weird, right? I was too angry to call them the next day, so I waited until today. The manager of the dealership asked me, "Why I was mad today?" as if I had nothing to be mad about before. He justified all the things they had done and implied that I was just complaining. I will never buy another thing from Toyota South and I may never buy another Toyota. I didn't mad when the first five things happened, but I got kinda upset when mistakes continued to happen. Apparently, that's not allowed. Don't buy here. read more

I found a car at this dealership online. I texted with a salesperson about driving the 1.5 hour there to test drive a couple of days later. I sent all of my financial information, insurance information, trade in information prior to my visit. We get there on Friday and my husband and I drove the car and loved it. I sat down with the salesman and he went over my finance options including taking my car as a trade in. He comes back with paperwork and says its a go, I need to choose how many months I want it on and makes sure the payments work for me. He comes back again with the paperwork. I make a joke about if I sign this can I still change my mind, he says no, once you sign this, this is your car. I signed the paperwork. He went back to make a copy of my insurance card and my DL. We were moving my purse etc into the new car and making sure there was nothing in the old car. He comes out, says sorry you can't take the car today, it has a recall. I say ok what does that mean? He says we have to fix it and you should be able to pick it up on Monday. He also says there top finace guy will be back and may be able to get me an even better rate? I say no problem, he says everything is still good, still your car etc. On Monday I take the day off of work so I can drive down and get it. I contact them at 9:30, at 11 they text and say recall isn't fixed and they are still working on financing? I thought they meant just getting a cheaper rate? I contact them again at 1:00 pm. They then tell me that they can't finance the car? I say ummmm you already sold me the car, financing was already done? I already signed the paperwork? She says hmmm that is weird let me go talk to the manager and I will call you back. Over 24 hours later and no call back, no explanation, nothing! Horrible business practice. My husband has always bought our vehicles and this was my first time of purchasing one on my own. Such a bad, bad experience. read more

I bought a Chevy Equinox recently at Toyota South. I drove it over a period of two weeks, when I notced an awful sound. It was the left wheel berring. I took the Equinox to Toyota South where I bought it, and they told me the cost was $644. I would be charged half price, since I bought the car as is. I ended up finding a place that would do it for $220. My family and I have been Toyota customers for 20 years, but not anymore. read more

I dropped off my car to be looked at in the service department. They said it would be 400.00 just to tear it apart and find the water leak. They told me it needed a new motor or rebuilt one ranging from $4,100-$5,600. I said I will just trade it the way it is and just put it back together because the dealerships wanted to see it. They were very quiet on the phone and said they weren't sure they could put it together. I was irate and said it was drivable before I brought it in and just wanted it the same way. They said they would call me and give me an estimate for putting it back together. I could not believe I was being charged just to put it back together. I told numerous dealerships about this and they said I was being stiff armed to trade it in. Dealership I traded with called them and they said it was $1,200 to put it back together. I very seldom do a review or comment on a business. I had such a great experience at Toyota South in Richmond Ky: that i thought i would take the time to do one. I called Zach Dunn at the delearship and discussed a couple used cars i was interested in for my 16 year old daughter. Zach went out to the lot and checked on the cars and looked them over for me. He called me back and gave me his honest opinion of each car. I chose 1 really wanted to go look at. I met Zach at the delearship the next day. He had the car pulled around and cleaned up and ready for me to look. We drove the car and discussed its features; He was very knowledgeable about the car. We went inside to discuss the car. He never made me feel pressured or rushed to buy the car. I made him and offer....he countered....i countered...he accepted. That is truly how easy the deal went. My daughter loves the car: and cant wait to get her license. I will definety use this dealership in the future; and would refer them to anyone. Thanks again Zach for the great service. read more

Toyota South has got to be one of the least professional places that I've have ever encountered. My son went and bought a Sonota through them, when he received his title, it was for another vehicle. When we returned, they tried to give him a vehicle that was $2000.00 less than the one he had. Good thing I was with him because they told him by law that he had to take the lesser vehicle. Of course I knew better, so he kept his original car. Later, when it got to where it was a struggle for him to handle the payments and insureance, I took over the vehicle. Well, I wanted another vehicle besides that one. As I tried many times to trade it in, the finance department blocked me in so many ways, which I think some was illegal, that I couldn't trade it to a bicycle. They provided loopholes that me or my son couldn't get rid of it. And when I called about it, the main finance person there would hang up on me. (how childish). Theres more to the story, but I think I've made my point. To anyone that wants a Toyota, it's worth the drive to get it somewhere else. read more

I had previously purchased a 2010 Toyota Camry from Toyota South. The experience was the best car buying experience I had up to this point. So when I totaled that vehicle I decided to go back to Toyota South to buy another Camry considering the previous buying experience was such a success. The second time around though that was not to be the case. First off I felt pressured to purchase the vehicle as fast as possible. This didn't happen the first time around even though I believe I bought the first Camry even faster then the second if that makes sense. It was a constant "So are you gonna buy this car" "are you really interested" or my favorite "you are gonna purchase this today correct" these were questions I was asked. I didn't experience anything like this the first time around. Second they now have an insurance agent on site (found out later to be Mr. Gates son in law) who gave me a quote on insurance in which the rate magically changed hours after I purchased the car after to speaking to my then insurance agency and finding out I was quoted a better price at Toyota South. The quote was a HUGE factor in me purchasing this vehicle considering my recent wreck etc. The quoted price magically tripled when I called to sign up with said insurance. "Sorry I didn't run this certain report when I quoted you the first time." i was told. Well I couldn't just take the car back now considering I signed the papers so I was stuck fending on my own to find insurance I could afford. Third I was told I would have my car detailed. "It won't look like brand new but it will be close" i was told. Its a 2014 Camry that I bought in 2014...shouldn't it look pretty close to new? The only real concern I had was this white film in the floorboard that I was assured would be cleaned up, burn hole in the console, and some other minor issues. Upon picking up my car I noticed that the film was still in the floorboard and that there was still a burn hole in my console. Upon asking the car salesman what the deal was he stated "Sorry we'll get the console scheduled as soon as possible and the person doing the detail work did the best he could with the floorboard". Been six months and still nothing had been done after numerous calls trying to schedule the console issue had been made to said car salesman with a number of different reasons on why it hadn't been done yet. Finally its being done as I write this review. (bought the car in December and its just now getting done in May) Fourth I was given the worst possible car to drive for a few days while my car was being "detailed". It was an older model vehicle full of trash and there were warning lights lit up all over the dash board as if there was potentially something wrong, To be honest considering I just gave 20,000 for the car I purchased and only expected a decent car to drive. I called said car salesman and was told that was the ONLY car they had available and "were pretty sure we know what the problem is with the car. There's no need for you to worry." Hold on let me get this straight. You are a car lot full of cars but the only car you have is a trade in that was literally about to fall apart but yet was more then glad to take my $20,000 for the 2014 Camry I just purchased? The only reason I give two stars in this review is because the woman that finalized the deal (all the paper work etc) was extremely nice and made me feel reassured I was making the right decision buying the vehicle. Also the person who detailed the outside of the car was able to successfully buff out some scratches I was concerned about. Needless to say I won't be purchasing another vehicle from Toyota South and will instead will be finding another Toyota dealership to take my business to. I am a Toyota man for life regardless of this experience. Only question I have is how can customer service change so drastically in just a 3 year span? read more
