Took my truck here for engine light on and already knew it was the evap because 10 minute oil change checked it and found the code. I was super nice and scheduled further diagnostics, very suggestive of the gas cap probably needing to be replaced only. They said it was the vaper canister and wanted to charge $1000 to replace. Also their diagnostic fee was HIGH. Took it to another mechanic instead and he replaced the gas cap and it passed smog with flying colors. NEVER take you vehicle here they will indirectly admit that all the super high pricing is all on labor. Three other mechanics said they could do the same job for only $500-$650 annd were disgusted ant the quote. It's clear that this is the kind of place that gives mechanics a bad rapport because they do take advantage of their customers. But if that's what you're into, then schedule with Toyo tech. read more

On my way to work early in the morning my 1991 Toyota mr2 had an issue with its transmission and was stuck in gear. It was an emergency for me as I was stranded on the freeway and I didn't know what to do. I had never been to a car repair shop before so I was nervous to take it in. I called Toyotech and asked if I can have my car towed to the shop immediately that same day, and they said yes and they'd be able to look at it the next day. They diagnosed the issue quickly the next day and they were able to order the part and repair it and I had my car back in a few days and my gears are now perfect. I know my 02 Toyota Landcruiser very very well. I put the last 290k miles on it. A check engine light came on. My code reader gave me the code and I thoroughly researched it before taking it to Tim at Toyotech. (As a woman I wanted to be prepared for BS) I even have a mechanics manual for my truck. I told Tim my thoughts on the code. He and the other gentlemen there were highly professional and genuine. He could have charged me a lot more to replace parts, if he wasn't an honest mechanic. I knew it just might be corroded connections without telling him that. Sure enough, the problem was corroded connections. I was so impressed! Tim and the others were honest and thorough, they added dielectric grease too. I can't say enough how much I appreciate Toyotech! Brought my truck for some vibration, I thought it was the transmission but after they tested it they said transmission was good and that it was a drive line and it had to be rebuilt, they did that and also recommended new tires and new booster, I gave the ok and they charged me $5,500 and when I picked my truck up, I noticed the new tires and booster but vibration is still the same, also my radio don't work anymore and it did when I brought it in, now they say is the differential and they want another 2,200. Truly one of the last honest auto repair shops left!! Went there because of a noise I had heard in my Acura. Told them it really sounded like wheel bearings. Expected to pay what I felt was a very fair price of aprox. $750.00 They called me within just a couple hours and let me know that wasn't the problem, had diagnosed and fully checked out the car, and told me exactly what I was hearing, (With no work to be needed). Most shops would have changed the bearings and charged me full price. Instead, they showed me what the issue was, how I could take care of it, and bring it back for an alignment if I like. I paid the very fair diagnostic cost and was on my way. I will not take my car to any other repair shop!! Toyotech will always have my business!! Ps. This is my second trip to Toyotech. My first experience was having the timing belt changed in this same car years ago. The price was better than any other shop, and extremely less than the Acura dealer. I dropped the car off on my way to Seattle, they got to the point that everything was out of the way and ready to change timing belt and water pump, and noticed that 2 of my motor mounts were cracked and really needed to be replaced. They called and told me this, and while talking I received photos of the mounts in my car just to reassure me of the situation. I really had no idea what to expect price wise to change these. They then told me how inexpensive the mounts were themselves, and actually said... "tell you what, you weren't expecting this, since we have it all apart anyway, just pay for the mounts themselves, and were happy to install them at no cost to you, its really no big deal, at this point they're right there. We don't want you to have to come back just to do this later once its all back together." Who does that?!?!? NO ONE!! Except Toyotech!! What a breath of fresh air this place is. We have previously been very happy with the service at Toyotech on our two Hondas. However on our last visit we were told that the car had a broken engine mount, we decided to get a second opinion and the other mechanic said, after very close scrutiny, that the engine mount was fine. However, there was a new rattle in the engine, the new mechanic checked this out for us too and this was because a piece that should have been screwed back down after the service had not been. So after 5 years of great service, we are finding that Toyotech is no longer worthy of our business and we will be looking elsewhere. read more

Toyo tech has been around a long time, and I have found the office very friendly. However... I brought my car in when the battery light came on. As I pulled in to their lot my Odyssey started kinda lurching. I figured it was the alternator. When they called with the bad news, I was told it was the alternator and the transmission. Coincidentally, 2 totally unrelated problems. Over $3k, if I let them pull a transmission from another car, or $5k for a new one. They were apologetic, and let me leave my car there while I figured out what to do, and I appreciated that. Also the estimate was reasonable, considering what they were going to do. Then, I had a conversation with another mechanic by happenstance. He told me to get a second opinion, that it sounded like I was being taken for a ride. So I did. And sure enough, my transmission was fine. The new shop didn't want to trash another mechanic, but when I asked directly if toyotech should have known they needed to fix the alternator first in order to even diagnose the transmission, both men at the counter simultaneously responded "absolutely". My dad was so upset by this (I wanted to drop it, I was just glad to not need a transmission in a car with only 80000 mile on it) that he went to the shop to tell them what happened and see what they would do about it. They wouldn't refund my $50 diagnostic fee, but offered a free diagnosis on my next visit..... Pretty sure there won't be a next visit. So there you have it... I hate to bash a local business, but I would recommend caution here. read more

I have been going to these guys since my 2002 Toyota Prerunner was new. They have always been courteous and prompt. Only once in these 16 years have they suggested more work than I expected - the water pump was starting to leak and they knew I was taking on a trip. No pressure, just a suggestion that it could go out on me in the desert, or it could a few hundred more miles before causing trouble. Today I took the PU in for an oil change and to have my brakes checked because they have started making noise in this cold, wet weather. I own a 2011 Toyota Tacoma that was making a loud winding sound. Friends recommended toyotech because they both own Toyotas around 8 years ago... The mechanic they recommended no longer works there. Upon arrival someone came out right away and stated it sounded like the alternator bearing and when they test drove it stated the drivers side wheel bearing also needed replacement and I was quoted a price of 1,060.00 dollars. By chance I had something I purchased come in from the Modesto Toyota dealer and when I was there spoke with Mike, he had the tech look at my truck and found out I still had some of my extended warranty left. Toyota found that my serpentine pulley bearings were bad and replaced them under warranty... A completely different and single problem then toyotech came up with and tried hustling over a grand from me. I would definitely shop around and check prices and opinions. For a shop "specializing" in Toyotas and Hondas, they sure do not know much. I will never come back here or recommend this place to anyone. read more

I thought I'd try Toyotatech instead of the dealer and brought my Camry in for a brake job. The price quote was good and they offered free shuttle home and back again. They got me right in. They called me when the brakes were done and said all 4 struts were leaking, they could replace while on the hoist, $1500. I was planning some trips, so I agreed. All seemed well. A trip to Oregon and midway thru a trip to Utah, a tire separated and I needed an alignment. Big O Tire aligned it for me and said they should always do an alignment as part of replacing the struts. Well, at least the job is complete now and the car drives a lot better. read more

March 9,2015 inspected my 2008 Toyota Prius a/c not blowing cold air paid $50 inspection fee March 11,2015 technician inspected vehicle and found a/c system had no Freon technician inspected a/c system for leaks and no leaks were detected. advise customer technician to " REMOVE A/C EVAPORATOR BOX AND INSPECT FOR LEAKS." customer authorized repair. My 2008 Toyota Prius a/c stopped blowing cold air on September 10,2015 took car to Modesto Toyotech on September 11,2015 to inspect a/c system. received estimate receipt @8:48 am. returned call from Modesto toyotech @ 12:20 pm on September 11,2015 spoke to owner Jim Gates. he told me that their would be no charge on parts or labor if replacement part was bad or leaking. here is where it gets interesting. Jim Gates then told me that if another part such as the A/C EVAPORATOR needed to be replaced then it would cost me another $600 in LABOR. it CLEARLY STATES on the march 11,2015 invoice that that the A/C EVAPORATOR WAS REMOVED AND INSPECTED. CUSTOMER AUTHORIZED REPAIR. Jim Gates is CLEARLY trying to charge me for the LABOR I already paid for in the parts and LABOR warranty. Jim Gates told me in his own words,"IT'S JUST THE ROLL OF THE DICE" and "ITS JUST A GAMBLE YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO TAKE." This is the owner speaking to me this way! REALLY? Jim Gates actually expects me to pay for LABOR AGAIN for something that is already paid for. The WARRANTY clearly states 12,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first. WARRANTY applies to ALL WORK PERFORMED. What part of his own written out warranty doesn't Jim Gates understand? He is OBVIOUSLY A CONARTIST! Brought him my 2008 Toyota Prius on March 9,2015 with 72,784 miles. Returned my 2008 Toyota Prius on September 11,2015 with 79,454 miles. that is a difference of 6,670 miles (way below the 12,000 mile WARRANTY) March 9,2015 through September 11,2015 is approximately 6 months and 2 days ( way below 12 months as STATED IN WARRANTY) I either want a FULL REFUND of $812.70 or fix my 2008 Toyota Prius as covered under the LABOR part of the warranty. I have NO PROBLEM replacing a different part other than already replaced part. I will pay ONLY LABOR on INSTALLING the DIFFERENT PART IF NEEDED (NOT THE $600). I expect MODESTO TOYOTECH to HONOR THEIR WARRANTY. If they do not cooperate, I will file a LAW SUIT and turn them in to the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. read more

I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years. I was very disappointed today when I called and tried to go in and get something done to my car that is basically easy for someone with the knowledge. I was told that I could not take my car in after 4:30 because all the technicians go home at 4:00 pm. Website says open until 5:30 pm? I told (the new manager?) that I have taken my car in after 4 pm due to my work hours and the small job has always been completed for me. No appointment needed...and no charge. The response was "**** no longer works here...and well..times are getting tough." Yes, those words exactly. I miss the days when **** was there in the office. Always a smile and a "can do" attitude. So sad...Todd...where are you now? After over 15 years this is what I get for my customer loyalty. Called another place and they will take my car....and no charge! In these times of stiff competition and shops closing down ....customer service should always be number one or we, as consumers, will go somewhere else...and believe me..word of mouth is very strong advertisement. read more
