Both my dog and I love this place! The owners are so knowledgeable about the products (great selection of healthy- no chemicals or bi-products), and help you make an informed decision that's right for you. It's helped tremendously having them in the neighborhood. They've helped with fitting my dog's harness, changing her diet, reducing anxiety in the car, use of raw bones for dental care, etc... My dog was scared to even walk to downtown S.J. when I first got her, and this place served as a safe place for her. Now she absolutely loves getting treats from the owner! As a nutritionist I'm very particular about the food I give my 2 dogs and 2 cats, and am a strong believer in the BARF (bones and raw food) diet, as well as simply high quality canned and dry food. I wouldn't hesitate to give my pets anything they carry. The owners are very knowledgeable -and willing to give customers information that may help with any specific concerns you may have. One dog we adopted one year ago has gone FROM: extremely stiff/atrophied legs (couldn't go up one step), patchy/bare spots/horrible dandruff, stinky, droopy/goopy eyes, constantly panting, out of it/unresponsive, full of worms (eeew) and fleas, serious dip in back, and tucked tail TO: an almost puppy like lovey dog (fetches*, runs up and down stairs) with none of the previous conditions -simply though nourishing him with high quality food (mostly wet), good oils/fat, food grade diatomaceous earth (for worms/fleas), joint support (and 2 appointments with an animal chiropractor -highly beneficial!) - NO drugs (incl. dewormers or flea meds)! I was incredulous when Tre' Bone first came to St John's. I was certain they would have the most outlandish prices and strong arm sales people. I could not have been more WRONG! This cozy shop has everything you need for a healthy happy pet and at a better price than anyone around, including a feed store. The owner and employee remain caught up on all current news about everything from sliced knuckle safety to the quality of glucosamine in dry dog food versus other sources. And your pet is welcome! They also work with local new products for dog treats for that special touch or training. I found toys there I had been seeking for ages. Even a shorter chuck it that works perfect for my large back yard!! If you have a cat or a dog, it is a must visit for N. Portland, or when visiting the Cathedral Bridge-a must see visiting Portland! Yes, these are more expensive than the grocery store. But when my beloved dog developed more cheap food complications, he had earned less than a $1 a day quality food. When a friends dog had a special ear cleanser need I could only find what I wanted at Tre' Bone. They read every ingredient of the two choices that interested me and I was able to send him to buy it. I've been going here for years. The owner is super-friendly and helpful, and it's one of the only places in the Portland area to get Orijen food for our two pampered pooches. The shopkeeper Serge was super friendly and helpful, and gave me a couple samples, saying if I need more he has em! Tre bone is an excellent place to do my pup product shopping. I've literally asked them so many questions ranging from leashes and harnesses, to beds, doggie shampoo, toys and chew food items - and many times over about food. I've got two dogs, one a slightly overweight lab and the other a picky terrier breed. Both dogs, esp the terrier, have gone through different kinds of food to find just the right one. I can go in and discuss the last bag purchased and what worked or didn't and we seem to have finally found a good brand and type such that my ridiculoulsy picky (did I say that already!?) terrier will finally eat her food and not have tummy probs. I rarely see anyone but the owner in there so my contact is primarily with him. The guy who had (or witnessed) the issue with the coupon not eligble for held food has to have seen a one off situation and I just can't believe the owner would have enforced that - he's always been so customer service facing with me in every single instance. In fact, I will ask him about it when I go in next time to see what his policy is indeed. The products aren't terribly different than you can get in other stores, outside the good, quality food selection. I think that was a primary driver in him opening the store actually - the quality of food available for his own pets. The rest of the stuff just completes his offering. His prices are very fair and you can get just about anything you might need for your own pooch. All in all, it's really the only place I go regularly to buy my dog stuff and the only place I purchase food for my pup-kiddos. read more
