I made a appointment wit Dr Hairston based on a recommendation from a friend of mine. I called and spoke to a very friendly person over the phone who took my information and setup my visit. Dr Hairston's office is located right of route nine in Framingham and is very easy to find. When you enter you will notice the large inviting lobby area in a modern office setting. The receptionist was very friendly and you can tell she likes her job because she engages everyone in a inviting professional manner which is refreshing. Dr Hairston greeted me and is a very nice person. We sat and talked for a little while about me, my health and family vision history. He took the time to explain to me my options regarding my lens types and what I can expect in performance. I have never had a Optometrist take the time to explain why certain lens perform better than others which gave me a clearer understanding why cheaper lenses are not always better in some cases. I've been going to Dr. Hairston for the past 17 years. He used to be in the same office as my pediatric ophthalmologist. When I decided I wanted to get contacts, it made sense to start seeing him. He's great. Listens to what you have to say, answers any questions you might have. Checks out your peepers to make sure everything's ok. Dr. Tracy Hairston has a centrally located optometric practice in Framingham on Rt 9 near the Whole Foods plaza. His offices have a professional appearance and his staff is very helpful. Dr. Hairston performed a thorough exam of my eye and also gave me a vision test which resulted in a new prescription in both eyes. He was patient, courteous and thorough. His assistant then helped me select new frames and lenses, which were ordered and delivered right on time. Do not consider Dr. Hairston as he is by the worst, unprofessional optometrist I have ever been to. First off, they called us to come in early because it was a snowy day and my guess is they wanted to go home early. We said sure happy to help out. We get there and they make us wait 25 minutes. Why did you have me come in early if you were just going to make me wait. Then when we did go in, he was cold, arrogant and acted like any question we had was wasting his time. Not how we want to be treated. Secondly, my prescription was so bad I had to go back to earlier pair of glasses. Needless to say we will never go back and would advise others to avoid this optometrist. read more

I was sold a $500 + pair of glasses by Dr. Hairston 3 yrs. ago, the earpiece has separated from the hinge. Went back this morning and was told they are broken and would need to go back to the lab for service. I pointed out that it appears that the problem is a missing screw but if the problem is more involved why can't they just order me a new earpiece. The doctor never came out to explain to me why this was not doable and I told them that I can't be without my glasses. Unacceptable service! Update, with the aid of a magnifying visor I was able to repair the problem in about 1 minute. Dr. Hairston should have at least looked at the glasses that he sold me! read more

Do your homework and know who your doc is in contract with. Knowledgeable, professional, personable, and painless. I typically dislike eye exams, but this was a good experience (and I even had my eyes dilated). It really helps that they have late hours on Tuesdays for the working 8-5 folks. They go the extra mile to make the office a relaxing and inviting place. Extra points added for the super friendly and witty receptionist who came up with a pre-populated form so that you don't have that infernal mound of medical history paperwork to do at the get go. For those considering LASIK- this is just my opinion based solely on my experience. I was referred by this clinic to TLC for vision corrective surgery. I won't go into too much detail about my level of discomfort with TLC here, however I felt it prudent to get additional opinions at other premier vision correction centers and do my homework. Everyone should- duh! I chose the one that I felt was best suited for me (out of state). I found it well worth the flight. You should be aware that I was told by Dr. Hairston's receptionist only after the fact that Dr. Hairston has a contract with TLC and cannot see anyone for follow up appointments if she goes elsewhere for LASIK, not even to check the overall health of the eyes. I understand contract limitations - those can be sticky- but the situation raises a big red flag to me. I can tell you the cost at TLC was significantly higher (the difference was about $3k) and the recommended surgery (PRK) was more antiquated and just didn't sit well with me. I don't regret going elsewhere. I received what I believe is more state of the art surgery, better (and more honest) service and care, but unfortunately will not be back to see Dr. Hairston again. I still believe he's a good doctor and would do great for check ups and lenses, but I had to downgrade my rating to three stars due to the sketchy strict contract agreement. read more
