Earlier this week I went in and was greeted by a man with dark hair, and got help from an employee named Josh. Josh went above and beyond to explain the process and listened to my story with compassion: my grandmother just passed away and left me more items than I expected. I went in knowing they only took silver and gold at the moment, but again, the process was so smooth and Josh was very friendly and professional. Fast forward to today. I went in and saw Josh, who was with another customer, so I decided to go to the blonde woman seated at the counter. No smile, no welcoming energy, and she barely even blinked when I explained my story and commended Josh for doing an excellent job. Not only did she toss my items around as if they were trash, she had the audacity to grab the items I WAS CURRENTLY SORTING THROUGH to check them. I said, in a polite tone, "I would rather hand the pieces to you myself, not to be rude." No one else was in the store and I wasn't taking my time, she was just rushing me. When she finally took the items worth anything, I already knew in my mind I didn't want to do business with her. And when I said I'd rather take it to someone else she gave a snotty "Okay" and didn't even tell me to have a good day. Basic Customer Service. Pawn Shop, McDonald's, JCPenney, wherever you work with people you have to be SOMEWHAT personable. The only reason I would go back is to have Josh assess my items. But the blonde employee put a super bad taste in my mouth. This is the kind of thing that makes or breaks repeat business for me. Then I received a letter from the establishment stating that my watch will be seized if I fail to pick it up 10 days after March 30, 2023 which was the deadline. I called immediately because the two issues I encountered were: 1. I had moved to a new address so by the time I received the letter it was the 9th day. 2. I had to get a short extension due to a small complication with my company's direct deposit. Ramon wasn't there the day I called but Carlo assisted me after telling him my concerns. Carlo was respectful over the phone and I appreciate that he didn't cut me off at any point. My request was granted and I picked up my watch today (04/11/23) with no issues. That said, I'd like to give a huge shout out to Ramon and Carlo for their professionalism! I'm damn sure I'll be returning to their establishment again if I ever need help. Just one more thing I'd like to add is that they have a very welcoming vibe the two times I came in and that's a huge plus for me. The employee assisting me (thin, dark glasses, beard) examined the chain and said, "what you've got here is a broken 10k chain." I corrected him and showed a close-up photo of the 18k marking, at which point he immediately acknowledged it. He also implied that because the chain was broken, it was worth less. However, when gold is being purchased for melt value, condition (broken or intact) does not impact the underlying value. He then weighed it and offered $70. When I mentioned the current gold price, he asked what it was, and after I told him, increased the offer to $80. When I didn't accept, he asked what I was hoping to get. During the exchange, he also stated, "this is a for-profit business." In my experience, reputable gold buyers operate using a consistent percentage of the spot price. That did not appear to be the case here--the pricing felt arbitrary and not tied to a clear or consistent method.
