This place is pretty small in a strip mall, but that is like most. Very busy on a Saturday. This is in a strip mall near Harbor freight and Old Navy. There is also space outside with tables and chairs. It was very busy on a Saturday and at times very overwhelming. Fair prices. Very nice staff and they work very fast and super happy. Some were stocking during busy times and it was hard to get around. Got samples of TJ's Fontina cheese and it was so good. read more

I lived in Athens for two years before I stumbled across this place. It is tucked behind a lot of mini strip malls so it can't really be seen from the road. It is a relatively small grocery store with prices cheaper than your average retailer. The produce is always fresh and there is a good selection considering. The staff are always friendly which is always nice. I shop here on average about once a week. Where I came from we did not have this establishment. We need more Trader Joe's all over Georgia. read more

This is a very well organized Trader Joe's and the store is very clean. The staff at this Athens's location provide excellent service as well. Besides, I must say I never seen anyone scan items and bag them as fast as my cashier did, wow! They have a nice selection of Wine's here. Most of the items here are on the opposite side of the store in comparison to the downtown location off Monroe. Trader Joe's is great. Everyone knows (or should know) that. It's fantastic. And this one is no different. Prices are great. People are friendly. Food is tasty. Samples are plentiful. In the area, there's not a whole lot of competition with other stores. Publix exists for your standards, but if you live in the area this is what I'd recommend for most of your snacks or (mostly) prepared meals. read more

The Athens Trader Joe's is a great market! I used to come here often while waiting for my pup who was receiving medical treatment at UGA's School of Veterinary Medicine. The store is extremely well-appointed and not to mention, well-organized. The staff is very professional and seem genuinely happy to work there. I've always liked Trader Joe's since having become used to them as a native of Massachusetts. What I most appreciate about Trader Joe's is the affordable prices on a great variety of products in comparison to other stores like Whole Foods. The Trader Joe's brand-specific foods are delicious! There are so many types of snacks to choose from and their frozen food section has all sorts of goodies to include some impressive renditions of Indian cuisine. As you walk into this location, a prepared "to-go" style fridge greets you to your right-hand side and is packed with affordable salads, sandwiches, and meal items to take with you if you're on the run. Frankly, the store is a delight and I enjoy just taking my time browsing the aisles to find new and different things. From food to beauty, coffee to wine, Trader Joe's in Athens has you covered. I am still a bit peeved that Augusta doesn't have one, but Trader Joe's chooses their locations based on certain requirements...maybe one day! read more

Trader Joe's employees love their jobs enough to make me consider working there! This location is no exception. The staff is friendly and polite and will go out of their way to help you find items, make recommendations, even give free samples. I have to visit this location as it's the closest to me, but really it's a pleasure to shop here, so I'd go out of my way for it anyway. Store is clean and merchandise turns over quickly. Staff is extremely friendly and kind. Just like any other Trader Joe's, the items are well priced. However being a California native (moved here 3 months ago for grad school) who has shopped at Trader Joe's her entire life I have consistently noticed that unfortunately the full selection of items Trader Joe's offers are NOT available here. People in Athens are really missing out on awesome products, simply because they are not stocked at this location. Bakery items, meats, granola mixes/bars, etc are about a 1/4 of the variety offered compared to what we have back home. My husband has been working in Athens on a grocery store and before he headed home to NC wanted to get some ginger snap cookies for me and the girls. We love these cookies from Trader Joe's. While entering the store....with his mask on....he ask in which direction to go....mind you...he had been working so he had work clothes on.....which was not a suit and tie.....but work boots, pants and shirt. He didn't find the cookies originally so he turned around and was close to the buggy area when he was yelled at by an employee to stop and that they were cleaning the buggies. My husband responded that he didn't need a buggy but he was told to stay put. He did as he was told but was irritated at how he was spoken to. Customer service is number one if you want returning customers. Although he wanted to walk out without making a purchase, he stayed and purchased the lovely ginger snap cookies we love. Needless to say we travel all over the southeast and visit LOTS of Trader Joe's and have never, never experienced this type of behavior. First time shopper. Levi checked us out. He was extremely kind and when he heard it was a very first time in a trader Joe's he gave us flowers. He didn't know but it was a treat to come all the way out from Gwinnett to shop and get lunch with my mom. New store, smaller wine selection then some of the other TJ's I've been in, but it seems the longer they are open, the more variety they are getting in. Super helpful staff. One one visit we had three different employees helping us find items on a list our friend had given us and they all went back into the stock room to check on things for us at some point. They would actually pull the items from the shelf for us. In the wine department this was especially helpful because it would have taken us forever to find the wines on our lists. We are only in town once a year and it is nice to see some of the same employees from year to year. read more

I am a fan of Trader Joe's in general, and this is a newly opened store in Athens. We usually trek down to Atlanta or one of the burbs to hit up Trader Joe's, but Athens is just as close, so we went here. Been going since they opened. Great selection of high quality groceries. The best price on Terrapin beer (7.99 for a six pack) and Asahi( $10 for a twelve pack). Very good selection of everything Everyting is great. Very nice employees! There is no need to go to Kroger/Publix, etc. anymore. You see, yelpers, while I was shopping, I got a phone call from home--bad news. Lovely Miss Anna was my checkout person and she could tell something was up. When she found out what happened, she did me a huge solid, gave me a gift, despite my objections and put a big smile back on my face and, more importantly, made my daughters smile. People like her are rare and far between, and she's beautiful to boot! Granted, I shop at TJ's a lot and their customer service is always above par. You should see that staff hustle. This was my first time ever shopping at Trader Joe's, and it will definitely not be my last. The store was clean, well-lit, and the produce looked fresh. The prices weren't bad either. The meat selection is small, but the wine selection is extensive, and that's what matters right? ;) The service is first class here. All of the staff were very friendly and extremely accommodating. I accidentally dropped a large glass bottle of juice, and it went everywhere. They not only assured me that everything was fine and that they would handle it, but they cared about my safety first since the bottle broke so closely to where I was standing. They helped me check for errant glass shards and gave me cleaning wipes to wipe the juice off. While checking out, we had a lovely mini chat with the cashier. When she found out this was our first time, she welcomed us and gave us one of the recyclable bags for free. I love to go here specifically because they have my favorite flower shaped frosting cookies here with cute little pink sprinkles, but while I'm there searching for them I always notice they have such clean aisles and shelves are always stocked. They have great selections like healthy meals and produce as well as nice little snacks. I went here for the first time yesterday because I had recently discovered that a Trader Joes was just around the block from where I currently live. I remembered shopping there all the time in Cali and loving it. So I finally stopped by and was first surprised by how small the place was. The selection was also a little smaller than I remembered but they did carry all of my favorites. The store being kind of a "mini TJ's" actually made me like it a bit more. Gave it a small town grocery store type feel. Anyways, the customer service was great as well. Best in Athens if I had to bet on one. Friendliest people who genuinely seem like they care. A nice selection of organic goods in Athens, Ga. I do wish we had a Whole Foods as I like to prepare my food instead of heating up the endless quantity of frozen meals they offered here. The shopping center is conveniently located with Walmart and Kroger within walkable distance. All of the cashiers are extremely nice and helpful. I love their Indian Butter Chicken, and I can say it's one of the better frozen meal I have had. Prior to 2018, I have never been to a Trader Joe's, so this is definitely an eye boggling experience. There is a nice selection of affordable wine. The fruits and vegetables can be purchased at lower prices at Walmart or kroger. I also love the free coffee and tea sample near the produce isle. You should be able to take care of most grocery items at this local supermarket. Also, the seasonings are def a must buy if you swing by here for your grocery runs. I have shopped at Trader Joe's somewhat frequently since they opened in Athens. Mostly my experience has been positive, however I've often felt that there is something kind of weird about the food. I have definitely gotten sick after using a brand new container of their extra virgin coconut oil and can't even look at the frozen falafel without feeling sick. Some of their food items just seem to have a strange flavor. Yesterday I took home some completely cooked vegetable "sushi" rolls for lunch and after about 7 hours was sitting on the bathroom floor. Today I opened a bag of Trader Joe's Quinoa & Black Bean tortilla chips for a snack and felt awful with an hour of eating them. I love the inexpensive wine (which is usually not that great but it does the trick for the price), but that may be all I return for. The food just weirds me out now.
